    Great video man, good to see somebody with lots of knowledge reviewing a car, also giving a big all-around picture with speed and upgrades. I have the 3s now and was trying to get rid of it to get the 6s version, 3s version is great but to make a big build an upgrade like I like to do, 6s is the way to go

      @@AJJAMStudios like I mentioned earlier I just purchased a 6s Typhoon and my goal is to turn it into a Senton 6s from back in the day. Have you heard of anyone doing this. They still make the body, body mounts and bumpers. I have a new red BLX Senton and I might use that body if the holes line up if not I will order the 6s body. My goal is to look as factory as possible with Arrma components. I have the body mounts on the way and I will go from there. Thank you for all the videos you put out it really helps.

    Right on needing the 6S packs with the Typhon. 2 3S hard packs don't fit. I have the V5, so it comes with some improvements. I did get some Proline belted tires for the street. This buggy rips!!! It's very easy to just throw it in the car because it is pretty small. I did put M2C shock towers, shock standoffs and braces on mine.The V5 has an improved chassis so with the braces I haven't had a problem yet. M2C make chassis too. I'm sure you know that since this video is from 6 months ago. Great points about budgets and comparisons with the 3S. The 3S Typhon is a better entry point for someone to get into RC. Great job on the review 👏 👍 👌

      Not brittle. Run properly this machine holds up fairly well, but long jumping it is a different matter. There really are only a few changes this car needs, but if you jump it big, you'll need a few more, including the chassis. However, it should have come out with the heavy chassis and the aluminum chassis braces to begin with.

    • @AJJAMStudios
      @AJJAMStudios  2 роки тому +1

      6s or 8s, it matters not, the cars should be built to deal with the power they were shipped with. As far as that goes, I think the manufacturers do a pretty good job of it. Imagine, the power and weight of these machines, and then the impact power they possess, the number is staggering. Then try and make any item tough enough to take that kind of hit without breaking...not an easy task. The fact that they even produce aftermarket parts that allow us to make the rigs strong enough to rebound and bounce with minimal breakage is awesome. I've been in this hobby from the early years of it's conception, and I can say this, the cars today, even the ones we consider weak, are way, way, way tougher than the were just twenty years ago. With speed comes damage, it's just the way of things; ask any real race car driver.

    • @AJJAMStudios

  • @FarmerFpv
    @FarmerFpv 2 роки тому +2

    The Typhon TLR is actually tougher than the 6s blx. You don't have to build it as a racer. It will take more abuse than the regular 6s blx because of the thicker 7075 aluminum chassis, shock towers, and thing pin blocks. I built mine as a basher. I put some proline belted badland tires and now it can go where my Kraton can go. Put some MX28 badlands if you really want it to go nuts, lol. BTW i love the in-depth reviews you do on your channel. They are some of the best. Subscribed & liked.

    I think a lot of people wouldn't have the same issue with the chassis bending at least that pertains to myself I don't jump mine or tear mine up like that. I think with the next 6s version of the Typhon they release, I think it needs a new interior design to address the double 3s battery problem. Fingers crossed.

    You should do a comparison between the Arrma Typhon 6S 4wd Blx versus a HPI Vorza 1/8 scale 4wd 6S Flux Buggy. Its basically a beefed up version, i cant believe how similar in layout and design they are. The Vorza will do 64mph according to the box with the pinon gear swap. I usually just run it on a 4s setup because its plenty of power! Its a Castle MBM 6S ESC & a 1/8 scale Castle 2200Kv motor. Same rebranded castle system that's also found in the Hpi Savage Flux 6s.
    I have a Typhon 3S Blx bc it just easy to take out quick with one battery and rip it up for a little bit lol. I also have a bunch of Traxxas trucks and cars. AE 6.2 buggy. OFNA Buggy.
    Im super impressed into how much design went into these arrma 3s and 6s systems and ease of disassembly to fix things even faster and nice adjustments...
    I agree that they should of came with metal stiffness braces. It would of prevented a lot of other issues that owners im sure had to deal with and never even thought about upgrading that Brace to a metal one. You could even setup some cheap metal tie rod brace setup like a lot of 1/8 scale buggies.
    One thing I know is holding back the Typhon 3s Blx is that it doesnt have sway bars stock and it makes it roll a lot easier imho

    The 20KG DESSERVO servo version is measured at
    11.2kg at 6V
    12.6KG at 6.6V
    13.3KG at 7.4V
    It may be faster, but unfortunately you probably don't have as big an upgrade as you hope for.
    That said, the Spectrum's may also not measure up to what it promises.
    POWER HD's 20kg servo actually measures more than it promises in KG.

    Why no fan on motor ?
    Even on 3s i run two fans on my motor, with the stock pinion.
    It was only 85 degrees this week, but i had to put in a second motor fan on my Granite 3s, because after 20 minutes of bashing, my motor was too hot to touch comfortably.
    I don't understand how companies can not include a motor fan and not live to regret it due to warranty motor replacement?

  • @Critical-Defense
    @Critical-Defense 2 роки тому +1

    Have you considered M2C Racing chassis’s? I doubt they will be going anywhere as far as support, warranty, and parts availability. I just bent my Kraton 8S EXB chassis and replaced it with an M2C chassis. I already had nearly all of the other parts they offered for it so it made sense, especially during this months sales. They also have speed chassis. My Typhon will get one when I bend the OE chassis.
    I basically swapped all of my Typhon’s parts that could be swapped with Arrma EXB or Hot Racing parts. Full diff cases, shock towers, standoffs, etc. with a RPM wing mount to a Kraton wing. It’s definitely beefcake. I pulled the SR315 receiver and replaced it with a Spektrum SR6100AT 6 channel receiver with AVC and Telemetry that is bound to my Spektrum DX5C. I really prefer having AVC and the extra channels are nice for fans.
    Question. With the 20 tooth pinion, do you ever have temp issues? I do quite often even with the Arrma heat sink and fan. I ended up gearing down to 17t but I plan to install and test out the Hot Racing spool for the Typhon soon and am leaning towards just yanking the ESC and motor for Castle Creations replacements.

    • @AJJAMStudios
      @AJJAMStudios  2 роки тому

      When jumping on the big ramp the car is usually not under high power all that long and, to answer your question, no we haven't noticed too high of temps. However, if we were racing at our oval track I think we would run into temp issues. For all out jumping however, not so much. Thanks for all of your input, it is greatly appreciated. Thanks again, AJ

    You do excellent content, my friend. I just got back into the hobby after a 35 year hiatus with a Typhon 6s. I quickly got a bent shock shaft. Lol. Thinking of upgrading. What are my upgrade options for rebuilding? What’s the length of the original shaft so I know what I’m looking for. I’m surprised how hard some of this information is to find. Are the eBay or Amazon cheap aftermarket shocks garbage?

    • @AJJAMStudios

      I am unsure of the shaft size, but I still run the original shocks. They are easy to rebuild and fairly inexpensive. I’ve tested the cheaper replacements and they work pretty well, but I think the stock ones work better. Set your oils for what you’re doing and pull the throttle back. I hope this helps 😎👍

      We here run stock components most of the time, but have been known to pinion up now and then. Our jumping Typhon is set with a stock spur and an 18 tooth pinion, which gives a bit more speed. The temps stay pretty good and we've not had any overheating issues, but we also don't usually sit and bash in high traction situations either, like grass or pavement. In the dirt or loose material the thing really rips. Keep in mind, we use the stock 2050kv motor and the 185BLX ESC running 6s. I hope this helps. AJ

    Silly question but would the typhon 6s be able to corner at high speed on grass without flipping? Using a senton 3s as a lure for my dog but he's outrunning it. I try to out-turn him but the senton is a flipping machine on grass/slight grade. Need speed+maneuverability and looking at typhon 6s or kraton 6s. Any thoughts are appreciated

    4000mah single battery? That's no time at all. Jeez, I run 18000 mah in my infraction v2. 11000 in my 6s typhon now. I highly dislike the battery situation on the typhon. The little spaces for the balance leads is absurd and the 2 different straps for the batteires are a mess. I'm about to use one of the 2. Just a hassle personally fiddling around with all these wires and 2 straps. I love this vehicle though. Probably one of my favorites for the money.

    I’ve had my old 6s xmaxx since release and after years of use I never broke the chassis, I broke everything else but the parts are dirt cheap compared to arrma even my other traxxas vehicles have been really durable compared to my friends aluminum chassis vehicles

      Xmaxx is cool to be sure, I love mine. Big, fast, and exciting to play with. I agree.

    • @Critical-Defense

      Traxxas parts are cheap but you’ll be buying them quite often. And their gears aren’t exactly cheap and with the powdered metal they are made with, they break often. Also, plastic chassis comes with flex issues and stripped screw holes = high tolerances. The XMAXX has driveshaft bending issues because the chassis flexes so much. And gears strip more often because the mesh changes with the flex.
      Not really knocking Traxxas, or not trying to. I have an XMAXX, E-REVO 2.0, and HOSS from Traxxas and I do like them. With that said, I much prefer my ARRMA’s. The Arrma’s make Traxxas vehicles look like toys as well.
      Oh, and the Traxxas ESCs are garbage. That’s an out of the box change that basically has to happen before the first run. The ESC in my Hoss is the only one still running. All others have been replaced with Castle Creations, Hobbywing, or Spektrum.

    • @AJJAMStudios

    • @Critical-Defense

      @@AJJAMStudios I’d love to see it on your channel but strictly for the amusement. In my opinion, it’s the worst RC I own in terms of durability and can NOT jump more than about 2 ft high. The problem I’ve found is the arms and hubs/suspension configuration. The arms are long and put the wheels out too far causing a surplus of leverage. I installed RPM arms and that fixed them breaking, but really only transferred the weak area to the pivot balls/hubs and the toe links. The E-REVO 2.0 is unique in that it has the same setup in the back as the front, so there’s toe links, pivot balls, etc on all 4 corners. After the RPM arms I started pulling pivot balls through the thread in the RPM arms and breaking the plastic rod ends of the toe links. It’s quite infuriating when the threads on the arms get worn slap out and no longer work without glue. I’m considering swapping to aluminum arms.

    • @Critical-Defense
      @Critical-Defense 2 роки тому +1

      @@AJJAMStudios oh, and the Traxxas VXL-6S ESC is plagued with issues. I’ve had three die on me in 6 months between two E-REVO 2.0s. I’ve also had 2 motors crap out. I’ll be swapping mine to Castle Creations or Spektrum ESC and motor after I figure out the pivot ball issue.
      Before the pivot balls started pulling from the arms, they would pull from the hubs and deform the metal ring that holds them in. When I swapped to Hot Racing aluminum hubs, they started pulling from the threads in the arms. The E-REVO has been a battle since I’ve had it to transfer the weak spot into the chassis.
      With that said, it’s a fun car to drive and it’s fast and agile, and the steering is on point and has a tight turn radius. I have to like it else I wouldn’t continue investing my time and money into it.

      @Critical-Defense 2 роки тому

      Same. I have the EXB chassis and bent it a few weeks ago. I already had nearly all of the M2C parts available for it and was dragging my feet with the chassis because it’s so damn expensive. Once I bent the EXB chassis I went ahead and ordered the M2C chassis with the motor mount.
      The bright side is these chassis will never bend! Lol I doubt I could bend it even if I jumped on it. And if it ever bends, warranty is 50% off replacements, which is pretty awesome if you ask me.

  • @scottb2571
    @scottb2571 2 роки тому

    The downside with most arrma cars is that you need to spend a lot of money after purchasing it just to make it more durable , some of these cars cost $1,000 and the last thing you wanna do is spend more money on upgrades just to make it durable , $1,000 for an 8s xmaxx and you don’t need to upgrade anything out of the box and you can thrash it on day 1

    • @AJJAMStudios
      @AJJAMStudios  2 роки тому

      This is true, some machines require a fist full of dollars to get up and running. However, the Xmaxx is spendy straight away, and in my experience you still need to swap out some essential components to make it what it should have been straight out of the box. No RC is perfect. Thanks for the comment. 😎👍

    • @Critical-Defense
      @Critical-Defense 2 роки тому +1

      I don’t think so, Scott. I have the XMAXX and plenty of Arrma’s and I can say that by far, the XMAXX has cost more and stays down more often. Straight out of the box the XMAXX requires new pinion and spur gears ($35), a new servo to replace its plastic geared stock one ($100-$250), a new ESC from any other manufacturer because the Traxxas ESC has zero reliability and only outputs 6.0v for the new servo ($200), new tires because stock tires won’t last more than 10 runs ($200-$250), and a new receiver because the Traxxas receiver can’t handle the new ESCs 7.0-8.4v output ($30-$100). That’s ~$850 for high end parts and no less than ~$550 for decent parts.
      I keep a label on the rear bumper of each of my RCs with it’s total cost including initial purchase, batteries, and all upgrade parts. My XMAXX’s label is currently over $3,000 and it is currently disassembled for install of the M2C Racing motor mount and chassis brace that I pray will fix the last remaining issues I have with it. Compare that to my Kraton 8S EXB with a Castle Creations XLX2 and 800kV sensored motor and all M2C Racing parts making it full beefcake at $2100. It’s easy to see that Traxxas is a second rate choice over ARRMA. However, I do still love Traxxas.

      Your attention to the details is awesome, Dustin. I love the way you track your costs; it's something I never thought of doing. Perhaps I will begin tracking costs that way too, but, I'm sure that if I saw the actual total of how much I spend I would go into shock. Maybe it's too much for me to handle...LOL. Sometimes ignorance "is" bliss. Plus, if my wife saw that number I would need a blanket so I wouldn't freeze to death on the couch...LOL. Just kidding, she would never make me do that. @@AJJAMStudios oh, believe me.. when the cost is added up and I see that number, it’s been a shock every time. It has definitely made me slow down a bit and be more thoughtful of my purchases and upgrades. I have also been more informed about the warranty an item has before I buy it. T-Bone Racing went from a Lifetime Warranty to 30 Day Warranty… if they can’t warranty their parts for more than 30 days it appears as if they don’t believe in their own product and if they don’t believe in it why would I?

Just doesn't make sense ! I realized i enjoy driving as i learn skills in real life with a car , tuning the right suspension settings , power to weitgh ratio , throttle response , torque for crawlers, pinions for highspeed , etc taking fast coners so much you can challenge yourself instead just driving it like a idiot to a tree , neighbor's car, or windows house...

      Disagree. We spend the time, money, and effort to make ourselves happy. It is a hobby we enjoy and love seeing our RCs fly. Equating it to full size is silly, these are toys. Each person gets to make the hobby what they want it to be. Judging is not what we do here. If it makes us happy and does not hurt anyone or invade private property it is within our right to do so. We bash, we fly, period, and it is not dumb.
