  • On Saturday September 19 at 1pm AEST, Australian Musician presents a special two and a half hour livestream tribute to guitar great and founding member of Fleetwood Mac, the enigmatic Peter Green, who sadly passed away in late July this year.
Fittingly, our livestream on September 19 marks 51 years since the release of Fleetwood Mac’s acclaimed 3rd studio album Then Play On.
In the tribute we chat with artists all over the world who were either influenced by Peter Green or personally knew him. The tribute presents feature interviews, a few riffs and licks and some never before told tales of the life of the elusive Peter Green.
Artists involved in our tribute include: Rick Vito (Fleetwood Mac), Leo Sayer, Midge Ure, Pete Stroud (Peter Green’s Splinter Group), Dennis Dunstan (Fleetwood Mac management 1978-1995), Orianthi, Andy Powell (Wishbone Ash), Dave Mason (Traffic), Brent Mason (US session player), and a host of respected Australian musicians including: Diesel, Geoff Achison, Shannon Bourne, Jeff Lang, Jimi Hocking, Hamish Anderson, Anne McCue, Gwyn Ashton & Chris Finnen, and Nathan Cavaleri. There’s also a special message sent from Peter’s Fleetwood Mac bandmate Jeremy Spencer.
Plus Australian audiences only have the opportunity to win a fabulous Vox Cambridge 50 watt amp by watching the feature and answering a question, which we will ask during the tribute.
    Entry email will be info@australianmusician.com.au
Question to come during the event. The competition will remain open until midday Monday October 5th, 2020 and winner announced Tuesday October 6th.
The VOX Cambridge50 is a modern modeling guitar amplifier powered by Nutube and Celestion for powerful and responsive tones. The VOX Cambridge50 is an ambitious product that opens new possibilities in a modeling guitar amp. It features Nutube, for real tube distortion and response, and an open-backed cabinet equipped with a 12-inch Celestion speaker for the classic VOX tone. Its simple design allows you to easily dial in settings on the face of the amp, or save your favourite settings as presets. With 11 types of amp models, 8 built-in effects, and a built-in tuner, this amp is perfect for many applications and any style of music.

Tune into our livestream event REMEMBERING PETER GREEN: Fans and Friends Tell Their Stories at 1pm AEST on Saturday 19th September on both our UA-cam channel and Facebook page.

In 1967 I was a kid spending the summer in New York. Went to the club "the Scene" in Times Square and when Pink Floyd finished their set at 1am ( yes, Pink Floyd played clubs in the beguining) it was announced that Fleetwood Mac were going to play till they had to go to the airport and go back to England which ended up being 5 am. The stage was about 8' x 12' and 7 " high. With Pink Floyds gear still on stage Peter had to stand on the floor and I was sitting 6 feet away from him. It was my first brush with blues and its stuck with me for the last 63 years.

My dear friend and blues Brother was Ron Thompson of Ron Thompson and his resistors. He was good friends with Mick Fleetwood. Many years ago Ron and Mick went to England. They got to hang out with Peter. And I think they even did some session work on Mick fleetwood's solo album called Africa. I miss all three of my favorite guitar players Peter Green, Ron Thompson, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Thank you for posting this for all of us out here that miss and love Peter Green. I even got to speak to BB King about Peter Green. Mr BB King said, he has a big heart and he is a super warm human being. I miss BB King too :-) God bless and stay well.

'Then Play On' is Green's (and Kirwan's) magnum opus. IMO, one of the top 4 albums of the 60's -- with Surrealistic Pillow, Jeff Beck's Truth, and Super Session.

Peter Green exhibits a direct connection between his hands, heart his fingers and a higher power. My first LP was "Then Play On" in 1969, since then I've been on a crusade to wake people up to the genius of Peter Green and much to my delight I convinced most that Peter was better than Clapton, Beck and Duane Allman who were the popular guitarist at the time in the Bronx, New York . Not only was he a genius on guitar he was a person who led a life I was impressed with and tried to emulate. RIP Peter Greenbaum

Well it all started for me around late 1969 when I purchased the early Fleetwood Mac album "The Pious Bird Of Good Omen" which featured Peter's originals Albatross and Black Magic Woman amongst others. Been a huge fan ever since and over the years I discovered the other early FMac albums. Saw the Peter Green Splinter Group at the Corner Hotel in Melbourne around 2002, his follow-up tour in 2010 at the Prince Bandroom, Melbourne and the Mick Fleetwood Blues Band featuring Rick Vito twice in Melbourne over the last 10 years. This is a wonderful insight into the man, his life and his music. Can't wait for the release of the Feb 2020 London tribute concert box set.

They were playing some of eddies favorite guitar tracks. Eddie said (hey you) by fleetwood mac. (i only knew stevie nick fleetwood mack) Eddie was saying how much he loved old fleetwood mac, and mentioned this guitar player. They played extended version 'hey you' and it was incredible to me. Beautiful. So simple. It killed me at that time. Today we can play that stuff in our sleep. Which is Good thing. Modern guitarist ichika, and tim henson are absolutely terrifying. And the 80s shredders like steve vai and paul gilbert are not so elite.

First, for anyone interested, a couple-plus years back John Mayall put out three albums of live Bluesbreakers tracks with the Peter Green/Mick Fleetwood/John McVie lineup. Titled 'Live in 1967', Vol. 1, 2 and 3, these were culled from bootleg recordings made at various gigs by a fan. Some of the tracks have appeared previously, though in this instance Mayall has 'cleaned up' them up and done an official release. Though far from audiophile in terms of sonic quality, the vibe is very much like the 'Diary of a Band' albums with Mick Taylor - real smoky pub/club scene stuff, which is great.
    ua-cam.com/video/EI4AnG-FhY8/v-deo.html
I am watching the video here again after listening to some of the Mac's live 'Boston Tea Party' 3-CD set today and seeing a program about Danny Kirwan. As much as everyone does their best to articulate their thoughts about Green, Leo Sayer's bit is defintiely the most captivating. Of course we are surprised that he of all people would have any familiarity with Peter Green, the Bluesbreakers and the British blues scene, but he most certainly does. An hour-long feature with him alone would be a delightful history lesson.
Also, a nod of approval to Shannon Bourne for his Scott Walker shirt. Walker was another quiet genius deserving much greater recognition.

I've met the new Peter Green reincarnated.
He's a young guitarist living in Brisbane. He even looks like a young Peter Green.
    And man can he play.
I'm on his case to get a band together.
    But he won't.
    Why?
Because he doesn't like the attitude of a lot musicians.
They're in it for the wrong reasons he'll say.
And I agree. I still encourage him to pick his own musicians and form his own band.
He could be or make his band the next big thing.
But he's not interested. And that's exactly why he is the right person lol.
But I don't push it too far. Like Peter Green he's a sensitive soul which adds to his feel and ability.
It's fun introducing him to bands and musicians he hasn't heard of.
It's fun introducing him to Wings of Pegasus, Rick Beato and Justin Hawkins' podcasts.
From The Small Faces to The Cult to Tim Buckley he absorbs it and more.
He has it all there. And yup he idolises Peter Green by playing Green as if he is Peter Green. It's so spooky. Yeah he can weave it around Clapton and Hendrix and Joe Bonamassa.
I gave him the Robert Johnson sessions by Eric Clapton and he has all that already there in his playing.
    Roy Buchanan - no problem.
Such talent - probably best to keep him away from the magic mushrooms. The psychedelics are coming back into vogue with the younger generation. Probably because the likes of Joe Rogan keep promoting DMT etc.
Anyways any true Peter Green fans out there wondering if there will be another.
Well there is and he's here in Brisbane building bridges and playing guitar to himself.
Peace and love humans if you can find it
Btw is this the new BBC doco about Peter Green or is that only available on sweat shop Netflix?

@@mahatmacote6478 Chuck was basically a power chord player...as far as blues guitarists prior to him you are putting him against the likes of BB King, Albert King, Buddy Guy etc and Chuck comes a long way behind. I understand how early he was in the Rock and Roll era and you've got to give him that, without a doubt, but as far as the guitar players of the time are concerned he was a good sort of rhythm guitarist and great entertainer but not a good guitarist...there were a vast amount of far superior guitarists at the time and believe me I'm not taking away what he did for R & R in any way or form.🙏✌️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Great video but some facts are very wrong.
In 1973 I played with Jeremy Spencer and he was the one joining the Cult Children of God and NOT Peter Green! Peter Green already had a bad trip and left to England and Danny and Jeremy recorder a album in 1970 Jeremy Spencer left in 1971.
So the formeren manager is not right about the facts.

Everybody loves a story. While I appreciate and enjoyed Leo Sayers and Rick de Vitos testimonies, I think former Manager Dennis Dunstan needs to correct his statements and seperate the truth from the lies. I think a lot of what he says is just not true at all. Get your facts straight and don't just utter some BS.

I remember from the day that it was Jeremy Spencer who joined the COG…it is especially vivid owing to the fact that I passed up a show coming up (five minutes from my home) because Peter had left the band. Irony kicked me in the ass when I heard that Peter had agreed to finish the tour or part of it without Spencer. It’s one one of my greatest regrets in a long life.
