this was like watching two mystical creatures ceremonially construct a divine nest with cotton-candy clouds while humming fairy hymns and sharing smooth vibrations of simple blissfulness. i kept forgetting that i was watching hands! great video
Glad you found that helpful! You can also use string, a scarf, a towel or any other long thing you can get your hands on to hold the extra stitches. Happy Arm Knitting, Stacy
Thanks for comment, I'm glad you enjoy the video. Be sure to keep an eye on my channel over the next 2 months. I'll be adding more videos. Happy Arm Knitting, Stacy
Love the video was a little confused because I've never never before but I'm sure if I watch it over and over and over again I will get it. I have a question for 2 pounds of yarn how big of a blanket will it make I need to decide for that so I know how much to order Thank you for your help
Hi Yolanda, Good questions! 2 lbs knits up into a very small blanket 36" x 36". I recently knitted up a blanket with 9 lbs of wool and it made a blanket 45" x 77". The blanket in this tutorial uses 6.6 lbs of wool and is almost exactly the same dimensions as the blanket I knitted with 9 lbs because I used very loose stitches on my arm for this video tutorial, so it ended up bigger and covered a lot more area, but it also stretches out and shows a lot of holes (which some people love and others don't care for). I would guess you may need about 14 to 16 lbs for a king size blanket and will probably need to cast on anywhere from 25 to 30 stitches on to begin with. If you watch these this video ua-cam.com/video/hQK8eeh2MsQ/v-deo.html It's easier to see the knitting process, but you'll still have to hop back to this original blanket video to watch how to join the ends transfer extra stitches to a bag, and then cast off. Happy Arm Knitting, Stacy P.S. I buy all my wool from World of Wool in England, they have hundreds of wool tops (wool roving which is this yarn I've used to knit with) and ship worldwide. Sorry for the long winded explanation, I hope you got your question answered. If you have anymore questions I'm at your service.
Do you know how many stitches would be needed to make the width of a queen size bed? It's suppose to lay on top of it, but have no idea how many stitches would be necessary.
Hi Elizabeth, The answer to this question greatly depends on how big your arms are and what kind of yarn your knitting with. To find the answer you would do best to knit to knit up 5 rows of stitches and then lay it on your bed to see if the width is okay. You should probably start out with cast on 25 stitches, then knitting up the rows. From there you can see if you should have added more stitches or subtracted some. Then unravel your rows and adjust the cast on row. Happy Arm Knitting, Stacy
Help, I am SO CONFUSED on how much wool to get. Any chance you can put the exact link of which wool you purchased on World Of Wool? And exactly how many you bought?? The site is very overwhelming :/
Hi Jamie, They're in the process of creating a new site which will be much clearer! I used 3 kgs of dyed merino wool roving www.worldofwool.co.uk/products/352/yarns/jumbo_yarns.htm if you click on this link, and then click on the colour you want it will take you to another page displaying lots of things to pick from. I hope that helped! If you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask. Happy Arm Knitting, Stacy
Oh wow, their updated website is much better! Perfect timing haha Thank you so much for all of your wonderful information! Can't wait to try to make a blanket myself :)
Hi! I wanted to know the dimensions of this blanket. Also do you know how much yarn you'll need per foot (in yards and in pounds) Thank you so much this would help a lot!
You'll have to do the math on that one. I can tell you the blanket ended up being about 55" x 85" and it took 6.6 lbs to make. However I will say I knitted it VERY loosely so when it is stretched out on the bed there are a lot of gaps between the stitches. If you want tighter stitches I would recommend adding another 2 lbs of wool roving to achieve the same size. I hope that was helpful. Happy Arm Knitting, Stacy
I've used felted wool roving for this project which is hand washable, and can handle a quick spin out in the washing machine. It doesn't need to be a special kind of yarn, but as with all hand knitted things it should be washed gently :) Happy Arm Knitting, Stacy
You'll need 3 kilo's (6.6 lbs) or approximately 150 meters or 150 yards... it will make the blanket size in the picture which is about a twin size, however the end size varies significantly by how tight or loose you knit the stitches.... the same amount of yarn was used for the following blanket in the link, but it was knitted much tighter and ended up about 1/3 of the size of the one in this video tutorial facebook.com/profile.php?id=100010190088319&sk=photos&collection_token=100010190088319%3A2305272732%3A69&set=a.291025464580454.1073741850.100010190088319&type=3 Happy Arm Knitting! Stacy
Hi Jessica, the yarn is called wool roving or wool tops. I buy mine from www.worldofwool.co.uk, however you need to be sure and felt it first before you knit up your final project or it will shed everywhere. There's a video on how to do that here: ua-cam.com/video/-ADiPKQ_394/v-deo.html Happy Arm Knitting, Stacy P.S. We're going LIVE on kickstarter this Monday and giving away a tutorial on the most popular trending blanket patterns in the world right now (once it's live). You can have a peek at it here: www.kickstarter.com/projects/462021925/809918509?token=4ae7457f
Hi Elizabeth, I just updated the link on the top of the description it's here now. trulymajestic.com/product-category/arm-knitting-yarn-wool-roving/ And You'll probably need between 20 and 25 stitches casted on to knit up a queen size blanket. Again it varies a lot with how loose or tight you knit the stitches.
I've never seen this giant yarn in a craft store, but it seems like the big craft stores are slowly catching onto arm knitting so they certainly might sell it there! Let me know if they do. Happy Arm Knitting! Stacy
Good Question! If you have the stitches loose on your arms they can be dropped off onto the floor in record time, because the loops are so big and yarn is so bulky they can be easily put back on when the emergency is over, however if you have the stitches very tight on your arms it might take up to 10 seconds to get them off, and you'll have difficulty getting them back on again. Another method of arm knitting is to "loose" knit, like in the video below, which has zero down time if you're in an emergency: ua-cam.com/video/5ULtDDp1rko/v-deo.html Skip to the 7 minute mark on the video to see what I'm talking about. I hope that answered your question, if you have anymore please don't hesitate to ask. Happy Arm Knitting, Stacy
Truly Majestic, thank you. I've always been fascinated by this but had no plans to try it because I was worried about that. Seems I can put my mind to rest. :)
Hi Sheala, I thought I answered your question weeks ago but I can't find it anywhere so perhaps it didn't post. Sorry for the delay.... I buy all my wool from www.worldofwool.com it's actually wool top (or wool roving) and you'll need to lightly felt it before you start knitting with it. I have a video here on how to do that: ua-cam.com/video/jBTbtSQkR1c/v-deo.html . 6 lbs or 3 kg of wool is how much I use in most of my blankets. Usually I buy Merino, Corriedale or Shetland wool, they all work great and felt up well, however I also use blends of silk and wool which also felt up well. I hope that answers all your questions! Please don't hesitate to ask more. Happy Arm Knitting, Stacy
Hi Nitsa, Giant blankets can be handwashed in the bathtub and then spun out in the washing machine, it's important to fluff them afterwards so you still have the giant beautiful billowy stitches, if you don't fluff the blankets after you've washed them they will dry quite flat, fluffing makes them beautiful again and also speeds up the drying process. I'm in the process of remaking my washing video, but you can watch the old one here: ua-cam.com/video/jRSv4QuklEM/v-deo.html Happy Arm Knitting, Stacy
Could someone PLEASE covert this into U.S. pounds and inches or whatever it would be? I tried to do it myself and I'm so confused. I don't know how much wool to buy or how long I'll need to do mine. I'm trying to make one preferably for a queen size bed. Please and thank you
1 kg is equal to 2.2 lbs... 1 meter is almost the same as 1 yard (which is 3 feet). I hope that helps. I'll be making quite a few more video's in the next few months and I'll make sure I have US and UK measurements, weights and all that jazz to make it easier for everyone. Happy Arm Knitting, Stacy P.S. This blanket took 6.6 lbs of wool roving to make :)
Sure thing, thanks for the suggestion! Here's a remake of this video ua-cam.com/video/CcHRoHENZQc/v-deo.html which includes voiced instructions and more information. I hope you enjoy it. Happy Arm Knitting, Stacy
Hi Whitney, I get mine from Worldofwool.co.uk, it's called wool roving (wool top) but you'll need to lightly felt it up first before you knit your final project or it will shed everywhere!. There's a video on how to do that here: ua-cam.com/video/-ADiPKQ_394/v-deo.html Happy Arm Knitting, Stacy
Hi Nadja, You can use almost anything. Several strands of t-shirt yarn, several strands of super chunky acrylic yarn. I've even heard of people buying polar fleece on clearance online then cutting it up into strips and knitting it up. Be creative, each different one will have a different look, but that's what makes this all so much fun =) I hope that helped! Happy Arm Knitting, Stacy
Can you please tell me how many bundles you used or how many pounds I'm not sure how exactly it's calculated but I need to know how much to buy to make like a queen or king size blanket Thank you
I'll be remaking this video in the coming months, however here is another nice blanket to make and it's all there! ua-cam.com/video/rYevn9Xdbnc/v-deo.html I also have quite a wide range of blanket tutorials on my website and they are also all there complete with written instructions (for purchase) at trulymajestic.com/ Happy Arm Knitting, Stacy
Yes, usually the wool I get comes in a cone or loose and I always wind it into a center pull ball before I use it. I pull it through one semi closed hand as I unwind it off the cone, then run it through my hand again as I'm making a center pull ball, then the yarn also gets a bit more friction as it pulls out of the center of the yarn ball and into the knit... It sounds like a lot but by the end of this I usually have lightly prefelted wool which can stand a good tug without breaking. You can see some of what I've just described in my other video here: ua-cam.com/video/ygE037_FZ6o/v-deo.html I hope that helps, Stacy
Here's how much yarn you should use: ua-cam.com/video/4LrKLWHjMM8/v-deo.html&lc=UgzTrpSPrC5WKvTCFyh4AaABAg And here's where I buy my wool: ua-cam.com/video/ZSDvzScwgRs/v-deo.html Happy Arm Knitting, Stacy
This would be a wonderfully stunning blanket to add to any room. I'm sure it will be perfect! I also have a heart tutorial which takes almost the same amount of yarn if you want something heart shaped: ua-cam.com/video/El8nSVEbnMU/v-deo.html Happy Arm Knitting! Stacy
TrulyMajesticBlog thankyou so much ! I'll be sure to check it out, if and when I make the blanket, I will let you know !! One last thing, will I need the 1kg or 5kg ball ? Kind regards, Katie
This particular blanket took 3 kilo's to make however I knitted the stitches very loose so the blanket is quite large. Here's another picture with the same yarn but the stitches are tighter and fluffier so the blanket isn't as big : facebook.com/480265135514422/photos/a.492010961006506.1073741845.480265135514422/492011051006497/?type=3&theater If you want the same big blanket with very fluffy stitches you'll need to buy 5 kg's ... I hope that helps, sorry for the long winded explanation! Happy Arm Knitting, Stacy
To make a blanket this size you'll need about 150 yards of yarn (and if you want it nice and thick and you're using regular yarn you'll need several strands of each at a time, so several strands of 150 yards each) I hope that wasn't to confusing! If you're just trying it out 65 yards is enough to make a nice long scarf. Happy Arm Knitting, Stacy
Does this still work with mildly fluffy wool (like maybe 5-10 millimeters around)? Cuz that's all I've got! I'm 12 so I can't drive to Michaels so get special wool, and I don't know if they carry it anyway. I am really quite interested in trying this, if it will work with my yarn.
Hi KTK, Yes you can use that yarn, but if you still want it to be super fluffy like my knits, it's best to double or tripe the strands you're working with.... Try knitting with 3 strands of that yarn at the same time, if you want it thicker you can always add more :) Happy Arm Knitting, Stacy
This yarn doesn't come in skeins it's unspun wool roving, however 1 kg (2.2 lbs) of wool roving is approximately 54 yards. I used around 150 yards for this project. Happy Arm Knitting, Stacy
That would work wonderfully and I'm sure it will be a gorgeous fluffy warm blanket. Try it out yourself and your welcome to post it on our facebook page here: facebook.com/Truly-Majestic-Blog-480265135514422
Hi Judi, I'm assuming your working in inches not centimeters for your measurements. If that's the case you'll need to cast on roughly 25 stitches, but this is a VERY rough estimate as everyone's arms differ in size and a huge amount of the size also varies according to how tight or loose you knit your stitches. I hope that helps :) Happy Arm Knitting! Stacy
Hi Jessica, this blanket is 45" x 75" (114 x 190 cm) but the stitches where very loose, if you want a tighter knit with the same size I'd suggest using 4 kg of wool or 200 meters of yarn. Happy Arm Knitting, Stacy
This one is actually 2 balls of yarn tied together. You can order the yarn from here: cloudlights.org/products/giant-arm-knitting-yarn Even if you order 3 kilo's at a time, there's no guarente that it will be all one long strand (to tell you the truth, it's actually easier to work with if it's not one long strand). Happy Knitting! Stacy
Hi Natasha, this is actually on my list of things to create a tutorial on, but I'm about 2 months out on that particular project right now. I don't know where you could get a free pattern for this, but Anne from the flax and twine blog has a pattern you can pay for if you check out her site. Happy Arm Knitting, Stacy
hey just wondering, what if i wanted to make this blanket striped? can you somehow alternate colors or would i need to find a different pattern and tutorial? thanks :)
Yes of course you can make it striped! But whether you want the stripes to be vertical or horizontal will make a difference in how you do it. Let me know and I'll see if I can pull something together to explain how to do it. Happy Arm Knitting, Stacy
+Truly Majestic thank you so much for your response! im thinking of doing a thicker horizontal striped blanket for my mom for her birthday, your tutorials are so helpful, thank you!
+Truly Majestic also, would you have to connect the two different colors some how? is the material too fluffy to tie together? and is there another material that may work for arm knitting that may be easier to find and or cheaper, if so would you know if that material worth it? thank yoy
Hello again, Cut and tie colours works just fine if the wool roving is lightly felted (you can see how to do that here trulymajestic.com/2016/11/29/felt-wool-roving-arm-knitting-yarn/ ). And as for doing stripes simply change colours at the end's of the rows and you should be fine. There is some insanely thick acrylic yarn out there... Jazz couture, but I think it's expensive as well. Googling wool roving and browsing everything you can find might get you some cheaper roving. You don't have to use just Merino wool, you can also use Corriedale wool or shetland wool, just make sure they are about 31 microns or less (microns are how soft it is). Happy Arm Knitting Stacy
Yikes! I'll put your agitation to rest and tell you the secret. It's from here and it's pure unspun merino wool. cloudlights.org/t/giant-arm-knitting-yarn
I've put a link to some yarn in the beginning of my description if that helps. I also typed unspun merino wool into google and have a whole page of good results, maybe that's because I'm in England.... what country are you in? That probably makes a difference on searches. Stacy
What size is the finished blanket? I'm looking to make a large baby blanket, ideally 36 inches wide and about 45 inches long. Would 4kg be around the right amount?
4 kgs would be more than enough even if you wanted to make very tight stitches. For those dimensions you'd really only need about 2.5 kgs of merino wool roving. or about 100 meters of super chunky yarn. However it all depends on how large or tight you make your stitches. I hope that helps. Happy Arm Knitting, Stacy
If you're referring to a long tail cast on, I'm against them when knitting with roving. Not getting the length exactly right means having extra you need to cut off, and it's to expensive to waste. I will say though that the cable cast on, and also gurnsey cast ons look nice (however they will still not be the same as the cast off) Any suggestions for a cast on without a tail that would be similar to the cast off?
This wool is called merino wool roving, you can do a google search and find it, or if your wanting the wool and a video tutorial together I sell blanket kits on my website here: trulymajestic.com/product-category/arm-knitting/arm-knitting-kits/ Happy Arm Knitting, Stacy
Hi Rosalin, you can find the yarn in bulk here: cloudlights.org/products/5-kg-giant-arm-knitting-yarn-merino-wool-roving and it has FREE shipping worldwide.
Watch it again! You can also create this blanket by watching these 3 video's on my channel ua-cam.com/channels/e1R1ynBtrEzeSQIGkL56fw.html in the Arm Knitting Basics section 1. Casting on, 2. Knitting Through The Back Loop 3. Casting off. Happy Arm Knitting, Stacy
Hi Sade, you'll need about 150 meters of yarn. If you're using wool roving the same as in the picture you'll need about 3 kg (6.6 lbs). Also if you're using wool roving it is very important to lightly felt it first to minimize shedding and maximize the yarn strength for a lifetime of enjoyment. You can see how to do that at the bottom of this webpage trulymajestic.com/product/moss-stitch-blanket-video-tutorial/ I hope that answered your question. Happy Arm Knitting, Stacy
Sadly not for me. Tried about 10 times and all I got was a sore hand from removing the fabric over and over. I really don't get it even after countless videos
Hi Blue Skies, I'm so sorry to hear about that. This is unfortunately one of my first video's and is not easy to follow. I've posted a link from one of my newer videos, it should be much easier to understand ua-cam.com/video/vJ5reDtwddk/v-deo.html . Sorry about your sore arms. Hopefully you won't have to unravel anything again after following the Video tutorial I've just posted for you. Let me know how it goes. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Happy Arm Knitting, Stacy
I can't remember exactly.... it's a free song in youtube's video editor, perhaps it was called something like 2nd floor tango? It's some type of Tango but I can't remember it's exact name.
The finished blanket is about 45" x 75" but the stitches are very loose and when it's spread out there are large gaps. To make the same size without the gaps you'd need 4 or 5 kgs of wool instead of 3 kgs. Happy Arm Knitting, Stacy
It's merino wool roving, be sure to lightly felt it up first! I'm doing a webinar this Wednesday, on some secrets of where to buy this yarn, how to stop it from shedding and create gorgeous blankets. You're welcome to register if you like. If the time isn't good I'm sending replays to all who signed up after it's finished. Sign up here: trulymajestic.com/2404-2/ Happy Arm Knitting, Stacy
You'll need around 12 lbs for a loosely knitted King size blanket and around 16 for a more snug knit blanket. The blanket in the picture is a loosely knit one and it ends up being significantly smaller when knitted a bit tighter. Happy Arm Knitting, Stacy
I don't want to make the cloudlights people upset with you, so I am ok if you take this down. I am extremely allergic to wool, and the thought of knitting is this way would half kill me. I can't even use wool on my knitting machine. However, I have found an acrylic that will work. Premier Couture Jazz. I can get it in the states, not sure about your side of the pond. I love the bright colors that you can find in the wool, not in the acrylic. Jazz has some nice, basic colors. Thanks.
I have 3 cats that I am not allergic to them! I don't really break out over wool, I just feel like my skin is burning. It's not just the tickle. I am a machine knitter and years ago, I made myself a knock off of the St. John's of California suits. It is made of a classic dress yarn of 80% wool/20% rayon, and I could only wear it for about 2 hours with long sleeves, high neck, etc., until I felt so miserable that I wondered if I would be sick. I was the same way as a child, and I have a cousin who is the same way. I can't even go into yarn stores very well. Not sure if it is the wool or the dye, but as much as I love them, I choke very badly. Yes, I have often joked that one of the I have 3 cats that I am not allergic to them! I also had a hair stylist with alopecia. Just too much irony! I would love to find more good blends. I like just cotton, but it gets heavy, and takes so long to air dry here in the summer that it winds up stinking first. I have a good cotton/acrylic blend that I like, but would love to find more affordable cotton with rayon, bamboo, and other natural based fibers that could wash and dry better. If I could, my top wardrobe would be LOTS of sweaters and tanks! Thanks for the note. I hope it helps someone else!
+Ann Jones I have NEVER Liked the feeling of Wool against my skin, it's way to itchy and just uncomfortable. I TOO have also heard of The Couture......(forgot the exact name but the 1st word was couture) and I REALLY want to make one of these cute blankets....How does that yarn feel? Soft? I want to make one for a baby as well. I would LOVE to hear back from you. THANKS, and KEEP SMILING-
I am sorry to say that I haven't even found it - I just went and bought a cheap piece of fleece and am using that where I had envisioned the arm knit blanket. One of those cats that I mentioned loves to chew on knit things, and I was having a great deal of hesitation about working hard on an afghan only for Farkas to clean his teeth on it. I passed the info along in case it would help someone else with wool issues. Sorry I can't tell you more. Let me know if you make it!!
Most yarn is itchy (from my experience with socks and sweaters), however that's not the case at all with this wool. It's as soft as cotton candy, like bundling up in a cloud. This wool is 23 microns Merino wool (a micron determines how fine or course wool is) 60 microns is killer course while 18 microns is as soft as a baby's bum. Before you hate wool for the rest of your life, you should check out 23 microns Merino wool.
If you're really confused with this video you can break it down by watching my other video's starting with the CAST ON video, then KNIT STITCH video then CAST OFF video all found here. ua-cam.com/channels/e1R1ynBtrEzeSQIGkL56fw.html It will be much easier, just be sure to actually cast on 18 stitches instead of the few I'm doing the demo with.
To peoples who asking about the soft yarn and how many skeins they will need check this link www.yarayarn.club/collections/yarn/products/giant-arm-knitting-yarn-anti-pilling-soft-roving-chunky-super-thick-for-knitting-blanket-scarf
Natalia Szymanska How many skeins do you think we'd need to get a blanket the size in this video? Love the price of the acrylic kind. Plus, it's sold in the US so the shipping would be faster for me. Thx!
As they mention in the description you gonna need from 10- 15 skeins to make a blanket, so if you could afford 15 skeins will be perfect if not 10 or 12 will be good for it
YO I'm 16 years old and I ordered a blanket online and then this bullshit yarn came in not even the big yarn that I bought it's just an over sized yarn so now I'm here watching this video but I'm starting to realize that it's to small so any of you have any ideas what I can do because i ain't trying to throw $20 away
This is one of my worst video's, to watched the slowed down super easy to follow version of this watch the new video here: ua-cam.com/video/CcHRoHENZQc/v-deo.html Happy Arm Knitting! Stacy
Ahhhh so that's where the mystery spike in views came from :D You're welcome here anytime, and I'll let you in on a secret...... I have about 5 brand new blankets that I'll be posting on youtube in a few weeks. Happy Arm Knitting, Stacy
The tutorial you've found is just showing the how to knit through the back loop, it doesn't show how to cast on, knit the body of the blanket then cast off at the end. It's just there to show the technique of knitting through the back loop. Happy Arm Knitting, Stacy
If you've found an easier way post the video link and share it with everyone. Keep in mind though my blanket is very wide and not all stitches fit on the arm at one time. I also don't like using a long tail cast on when using wool roving, it wastes precious expensive fibers. Happy Arm Knitting, Stacy
I'm so sorry I gave your video a thumbs down...only for motion sickness with your video. I can't watch the whole thing with the camera attached to your body...that's all! Thank you!
This was actually one of my worst (and first ever) video's.... This more recent video should be much more user friendly ua-cam.com/video/xh3kpKnq1eE/v-deo.html Enjoy!
this was like watching two mystical creatures ceremonially construct a divine nest with cotton-candy clouds while humming fairy hymns and sharing smooth vibrations of simple blissfulness. i kept forgetting that i was watching hands! great video
Great imaginative description, glad you liked the video. Give it a go yourself sometime.
Happy Arm Knitting,
Stacy
It's a kind of meditation watching you make this beautiful thing.
you know i feel like this is even a great tutorial for regular crocheting, i can really see the technique!
Yeah that's true, it's about as giant of yarn and a hook as you can get :)
Happy Arm Knitting,
Stacy
OMG ! THE SIZE OF THE WOOL!
Glad you like it! It's even more fun to knit with than it is to look at, lol.
Omg the plastic to cast on more is such a good idea :O
Glad you found that helpful! You can also use string, a scarf, a towel or any other long thing you can get your hands on to hold the extra stitches.
Happy Arm Knitting,
Stacy
I'm new at this, and your video makes it look easy. I'll probably watch it as I work. Thank you.
Thanks for comment, I'm glad you enjoy the video. Be sure to keep an eye on my channel over the next 2 months. I'll be adding more videos.
Happy Arm Knitting,
Stacy
Love the video was a little confused because I've never never before but I'm sure if I watch it over and over and over again I will get it. I have a question for 2 pounds of yarn how big of a blanket will it make I need to decide for that so I know how much to order
Thank you for your help
Hi Yolanda,
Good questions!
Happy Arm Knitting,
Stacy
P.S. I buy all my wool from World of Wool in England, they have hundreds of wool tops (wool roving which is this yarn I've used to knit with) and ship worldwide. Sorry for the long winded explanation, I hope you got your question answered. If you have anymore questions I'm at your service.
Wow very interisting love the color also
Glad you like it!
This helped me so much! Thank you for your simple and easy to follow tutorial.
You're very welcome! Anything else you'd like to see a tutorial on to do with arm knitting?
Happy Arm Knitting,
Stacy
Do you know how many stitches would be needed to make the width of a queen size bed? It's suppose to lay on top of it, but have no idea how many stitches would be necessary.
Hi Elizabeth,
The answer to this question greatly depends on how big your arms are and what kind of yarn your knitting with.
Happy Arm Knitting,
Stacy
Thank you very much.
You're very welcome :)
Happy Arm Knitting,
Stacy
Oh wow, their updated website is much better! Perfect timing haha
Thank you so much for all of your wonderful information! Can't wait to try to make a blanket myself :)
Hi! I wanted to know the dimensions of this blanket.
Also do you know how much yarn you'll need per foot (in yards and in pounds) Thank you so much this would help a lot!
Willow Myers
You'll have to do the math on that one. I can tell you the blanket ended up being about 55" x 85" and it took 6.6 lbs to make. However I will say I knitted it VERY loosely so when it is stretched out on the bed there are a lot of gaps between the stitches. If you want tighter stitches I would recommend adding another 2 lbs of wool roving to achieve the same size. I hope that was helpful.
Happy Arm Knitting,
Stacy
cool and love the seamless join
How would you wash this or can you wash this? or does it need to be a special kind of yarn?
I've used felted wool roving for this project which is hand washable, and can handle a quick spin out in the washing machine. It doesn't need to be a special kind of yarn, but as with all hand knitted things it should be washed gently :)
Happy Arm Knitting,
Stacy
How much yarn will you need to make a twin sized blanket?
You'll need 3 kilo's (6.6 lbs) or approximately 150 meters or 150 yards... it will make the blanket size in the picture which is about a twin size, however the end size varies significantly by how tight or loose you knit the stitches.... the same amount of yarn was used for the following blanket in the link, but it was knitted much tighter and ended up about 1/3 of the size of the one in this video tutorial facebook.com/profile.php?id=100010190088319&sk=photos&collection_token=100010190088319%3A2305272732%3A69&set=a.291025464580454.1073741850.100010190088319&type=3
Happy Arm Knitting!
Stacy
I want to do this! What is this yarn called and where do you purchase it?
Hi Jessica, the yarn is called wool roving or wool tops. I buy mine from www.worldofwool.co.uk, however you need to be sure and felt it first before you knit up your final project or it will shed everywhere. There's a video on how to do that here: ua-cam.com/video/-ADiPKQ_394/v-deo.html
Happy Arm Knitting,
Stacy
P.S. We're going LIVE on kickstarter this Monday and giving away a tutorial on the most popular trending blanket patterns in the world right now (once it's live). You can have a peek at it here: www.kickstarter.com/projects/462021925/809918509?token=4ae7457f

I want to make a blanket to lay on top of a queen size bed. How many stitches more or less would you think?
also the yarn link is broken.
Thanks so much!
You're welcome!
Elizabeth Sanchez
I like it's color, beautiful.
Where can we buy this huge amount of yarn???
You can find the yarn in bulk here: cloudlights.org/products/5-kg-giant-arm-knitting-yarn-merino-wool-roving and it has FREE shipping worldwide.
where do you buy a big ball of yarn like that from?
Hi Jessica.... I sell it here: cloudlights.org/t/giant-arm-knitting-yarn
Can I buy it in a local craft store instead.
I've never seen this giant yarn in a craft store, but it seems like the big craft stores are slowly catching onto arm knitting so they certainly might sell it there! Let me know if they do.
Happy Arm Knitting!

How fast would you be able to respond in an emergency? Can you rip that stuff off your arms really fast or are you stuck in it until it's done?
Happy Arm Knitting,
Stacy
Truly Majestic, thank you. I've always been fascinated by this but had no plans to try it because I was worried about that. Seems I can put my mind to rest. :)
Hi Jean, Definately not something to worry about! Have a lovely day!
Stacy
Hi Jean, I made a video here just for you if you haven't seen it already. ua-cam.com/video/J2G7tyIIIpk/v-deo.html
Happy Arm Knitting,
Stacy
That's awesome, thank you! That took no time at all!
where do you buy the wool like that I have looked at Michaels and can seem to find wool that big ???
Happy Arm Knitting,
Stacy
Thank you so much this helps tremendously.
Thank you so much this helps tremendously.
Hello,hi there,it's so beautiful but is it easy to wash it after??it looks very delicate ,and how it holds after wash,
Hi Nitsa, Giant blankets can be handwashed in the bathtub and then spun out in the washing machine, it's important to fluff them afterwards so you still have the giant beautiful billowy stitches, if you don't fluff the blankets after you've washed them they will dry quite flat, fluffing makes them beautiful again and also speeds up the drying process. I'm in the process of remaking my washing video, but you can watch the old one here: ua-cam.com/video/jRSv4QuklEM/v-deo.html
Happy Arm Knitting,
Stacy
how long did u use the yarn? and how many chains you make in the beginning??.. but your vid helps me so much!! thanks and please i need the answer..
I cast on 18 stitches to begin with. The yarn is 150 metres long (3 kgs of wool roving). I hope that helps!
Happy Arm Knitting,
Stacy
P.S. This blanket took 6.6 lbs of wool roving to make :)
Where can I find that size yarn, it's so fluffu
You can get it here: cloudlights.org/t/merino-wool
How many yards did you use?
TrulyMajesticBlog
in further videos, can you tell all the materials needed because when I saw the bag, I had to slip everything off my arm
Sure thing, thanks for the suggestion! Here's a remake of this video ua-cam.com/video/CcHRoHENZQc/v-deo.html which includes voiced instructions and more information. I hope you enjoy it.

or what type of wool is it
HI! I really want to try to make this blanket, it's so beautiful!
But the wool is sooooo expensive... Do you have a cheaper version you can use? :-)
Happy Arm Knitting,
Stacy
very cool I am interested grieving this a go
Great, you should, however I'll warn you that it's highly addictive! :D

Can you please tell me how many bundles you used or how many pounds I'm not sure how exactly it's calculated but I need to know how much to buy to make like a queen or king size blanket
Thank you
They used 3kg which is 3 bundles of yarn.
hi I'd like to make this but i need a better video you skipped like a whole part
I'll be remaking this video in the coming months, however here is another nice blanket to make and it's all there! ua-cam.com/video/rYevn9Xdbnc/v-deo.html I also have quite a wide range of blanket tutorials on my website and they are also all there complete with written instructions (for purchase) at trulymajestic.com/
Happy Arm Knitting,

Did you felt the wool at all before? Thanks-
Yes, usually the wool I get comes in a cone or loose and I always wind it into a center pull ball before I use it. You can see some of what I've just described in my other video here: ua-cam.com/video/ygE037_FZ6o/v-deo.html
I hope that helps,
Stacy
Yes the same technique is used as the Knitting Through the Back Loop Video.... This is just making a full size blanket with that technique
Hi there, where do you buy your yarn and how much of it does it take? Thank you
Here's how much yarn you should use: ua-cam.com/video/4LrKLWHjMM8/v-deo.html&lc=UgzTrpSPrC5WKvTCFyh4AaABAg And here's where I buy my wool: ua-cam.com/video/ZSDvzScwgRs/v-deo.html

Thank you so much
where can i buy this wool ?
You can find it here: cloudlights.org/t/giant-arm-knitting-yarn
TrulyMajesticBlog thankyou so much ! I'm thinking of re doing my room and this would be perfect !!
This would be a wonderfully stunning blanket to add to any room. I'm sure it will be perfect!
I also have a heart tutorial which takes almost the same amount of yarn if you want something heart shaped: ua-cam.com/video/El8nSVEbnMU/v-deo.html
Happy Arm Knitting!
Happy Arm Knitting,
Stacy
How much yarn would you recommend starting with? 4oz (65 yards)?
To make a blanket this size you'll need about 150 yards of yarn (and if you want it nice and thick and you're using regular yarn you'll need several strands of each at a time, so several strands of 150 yards each) I hope that wasn't to confusing!
If you're just trying it out 65 yards is enough to make a nice long scarf.
Happy Arm Knitting,
Stacy
Does this still work with mildly fluffy wool (like maybe 5-10 millimeters around)? Cuz that's all I've got! I'm 12 so I can't drive to Michaels so get special wool, and I don't know if they carry it anyway. I am really quite interested in trying this, if it will work with my yarn.
Hi KTK, Yes you can use that yarn, but if you still want it to be super fluffy like my knits, it's best to double or tripe the strands you're working with.... Try knitting with 3 strands of that yarn at the same time, if you want it thicker you can always add more :)
Happy Arm Knitting,
Stacy
looks fun
How many yards are in a skeen of this yarn? How many skeens did it take to make this blanket?
This yarn doesn't come in skeins it's unspun wool roving, however 1 kg (2.2 lbs) of wool roving is approximately 54 yards. I used around 150 yards for this project.
Happy Arm Knitting,
Stacy
Why not cut a continuous length of polar fleece to replace the yarn ...maybe 2" wide ... ?
That would work wonderfully and I'm sure it will be a gorgeous fluffy warm blanket. Try it out yourself and your welcome to post it on our facebook page here: facebook.com/Truly-Majestic-Blog-480265135514422
Can you tell me approx. how many stitches to cast on to make a blanket 60X80
I hope that helps :)
Happy Arm Knitting!
Stacy
Thank you so much, your's is the first tutorial I've see that dealt with the more stitches than arm length issue.
What's the size of this blanket?
Hi Jessica, this blanket is 45" x 75" (114 x 190 cm) but the stitches where very loose, if you want a tighter knit with the same size I'd suggest using 4 kg of wool or 200 meters of yarn.
Happy Arm Knitting,
Stacy
How much fabric is that? Like do you just buy that one big ball of it or is it multiple tied together?
This one is actually 2 balls of yarn tied together. You can order the yarn from here: cloudlights.org/products/giant-arm-knitting-yarn Even if you order 3 kilo's at a time, there's no guarente that it will be all one long strand (to tell you the truth, it's actually easier to work with if it's not one long strand).
Happy Knitting!
Stacy

I was thinking of arm knitting a pouffe cover. What difficulty do you think this would be? Or where I might find a pattern/tutorial?
Thanks! :)
Hi Natasha, this is actually on my list of things to create a tutorial on, but I'm about 2 months out on that particular project right now. I don't know where you could get a free pattern for this, but Anne from the flax and twine blog has a pattern you can pay for if you check out her site.
Happy Arm Knitting,
Stacy
Thanks Stacy! I'll keep an eye out for your tutorial and have a look at Anne's blog in the meantime 😊
Your welcome! :)
You're pouffe cover is coming soon! It should be uploaded in 2 weeks if all goes well =)
Happy Arm Knitting,
Stacy
Truly Majestic fantastic! thank you so much for keeping me up to date 😀
hey just wondering, what if i wanted to make this blanket striped? can you somehow alternate colors or would i need to find a different pattern and tutorial? thanks :)
Yes of course you can make it striped! But whether you want the stripes to be vertical or horizontal will make a difference in how you do it. Let me know and I'll see if I can pull something together to explain how to do it.
Happy Arm Knitting,
Stacy
+Truly Majestic thank you so much for your response! im thinking of doing a thicker horizontal striped blanket for my mom for her birthday, your tutorials are so helpful, thank you!
+Truly Majestic also, would you have to connect the two different colors some how? is the material too fluffy to tie together? and is there another material that may work for arm knitting that may be easier to find and or cheaper, if so would you know if that material worth it? thank yoy
Hello again,
Cut and tie colours works just fine if the wool roving is lightly felted (you can see how to do that here trulymajestic.com/2016/11/29/felt-wool-roving-arm-knitting-yarn/ ).
Happy Arm Knitting
Stacy
+Truly Majestic thank you so much :)
BEAUTIFUL
Thanks
finally i know how to connecting the yarns xD
How much is used?
3 kilo's were used (6.6 lbs) which equates to about 150 meters in length.
Happy Arm Knitting,
Stacy
+Truly Majestic Thank you! It looks great!
Truly Majestic how many inches with that be
What frickin material are they using? Where are they getting it?
Yikes! I'll put your agitation to rest and tell you the secret. It's from here and it's pure unspun merino wool. cloudlights.org/t/giant-arm-knitting-yarn
TrulyMajesticBlog nothing shows up when you search that
Could you put the link in the bio best time.
I've put a link to some yarn in the beginning of my description if that helps. I also typed unspun merino wool into google and have a whole page of good results, maybe that's because I'm in England.... what country are you in? That probably makes a difference on searches.
Stacy
TrulyMajesticBlog I live in America, I eventually figured it out after about five minutes, but I think the URL is different for America.
Happy Arm Knitting,
Stacy
The cast-on is how non-knitters cast on. I'd suggest learning how to do it correctly so the start edge is the same as the last cast-off edge.
If you're referring to a long tail cast on, I'm against them when knitting with roving. Not getting the length exactly right means having extra you need to cut off, and it's to expensive to waste.
I will say though that the cable cast on, and also gurnsey cast ons look nice (however they will still not be the same as the cast off) Any suggestions for a cast on without a tail that would be similar to the cast off?
kinda wanna try it
Oh you definitely should... but... be very careful, it's highly addictive!
Happy Arm Knitting,
Stacy
hi I`d like to know where i can buy this kind of material. what stores it is sell ?
Claude Doucet try wish app Amazon xx
The wish app sells it, that's why I'm here.

How many grams were used to make this thing..@?
3 kgs (3000 grams) of merino wool roving :)
Happy Arm Knitting,

Thank you 💙💙💙
but can you tell me how I can buy this kind of wool ..? !!
This wool is called merino wool roving, you can do a google search and find it, or if your wanting the wool and a video tutorial together I sell blanket kits on my website here: trulymajestic.com/product-category/arm-knitting/arm-knitting-kits/
Happy Arm Knitting,

i looked away during that part can you do it again please
Watch it again! You can also create this blanket by watching these 3 video's on my channel ua-cam.com/channels/e1R1ynBtrEzeSQIGkL56fw.html in the Arm Knitting Basics section 1. Casting on, 2. Knitting Through The Back Loop 3. Casting off.
Happy Arm Knitting,
Stacy
Hi how many balls do you need for this project?
Hi Sade, you'll need about 150 meters of yarn. If you're using wool roving the same as in the picture you'll need about 3 kg (6.6 lbs). Also if you're using wool roving it is very important to lightly felt it first to minimize shedding and maximize the yarn strength for a lifetime of enjoyment. You can see how to do that at the bottom of this webpage trulymajestic.com/product/moss-stitch-blanket-video-tutorial/
I hope that answered your question.
Happy Arm Knitting,
Stacy
What color is this tutorial? looks coral..but??? could you email me
Hi Chris, You must have EXCELLENT eye sight. It is the colour Coral :)
How many meters of wool did you use?
150 meters were used for this blanket.
Happy Arm Knitting,
Stacy
how thick is the yarn? i mean in inch or cm
It's about an inch and a half thick.
Happy Arm Knitting,
Stacy
Happy Arm Knitting,

Plz, which one is the first background song?
I can't remember exactly.... it's a free song in youtube's video editor, perhaps it was called something like 2nd floor tango? It's some type of Tango but I can't remember it's exact name.
thank's!! :)
ouh thanks a lot... 😊😊😊
What are the measurements of this blanket?
The finished blanket is about 45" x 75" but the stitches are very loose and when it's spread out there are large gaps. To make the same size without the gaps you'd need 4 or 5 kgs of wool instead of 3 kgs.
Happy Arm Knitting,
Stacy
Thanks!
Your welcome!
wut kind of yarn is this? :)
Sign up here: trulymajestic.com/2404-2/

what**
Truly Majestic thx ☺️
firebrand420 it's called an abbreviation u should try it sometime
how many pounds do i need for a king size blanklet??
You'll need around 12 lbs for a loosely knitted King size blanket and around 16 for a more snug knit blanket. The blanket in the picture is a loosely knit one and it ends up being significantly smaller when knitted a bit tighter.
Happy Arm Knitting,
Stacy
THANK YOU SO MUCH

I don't really break out over wool, I just feel like my skin is burning. It's not just the tickle. Yes, I have often joked that one of the saddest things in the world is a knitter who is allergic to wool.
Sounds like you got it made already!
How to knit with fabric
.
Arm knitting
Is the ball of yarn 4kg?
This one is 3 kg, but it's knitted very loose. If you want the stitches closer together it would be better to use 4kg.
Happy Arm Knitting,
Stacy
Thank you. I wanted to get an estimate on how big the yarn was, just in case its wasn't worth the price. I can't wait now!!
I did this following your directions and you did not make sense and you messed up my yarn
Ashley Cuadra actually you messed your yarn.
How has your yarn been messed up?
If you're really confused with this video you can break it down by watching my other video's starting with the CAST ON video, then KNIT STITCH video then CAST OFF video all found here. ua-cam.com/channels/e1R1ynBtrEzeSQIGkL56fw.html It will be much easier, just be sure to actually cast on 18 stitches instead of the few I'm doing the demo with.
looking at that big ball of yarn makes me want to laugh...
Isn't that roving, not yarn?
Yes, you're right, it's wool roving that I'm using in place of yarn.
To peoples who asking about the soft yarn and how many skeins they will need check this link www.yarayarn.club/collections/yarn/products/giant-arm-knitting-yarn-anti-pilling-soft-roving-chunky-super-thick-for-knitting-blanket-scarf
Thanks for the link, this is pure acrylic though, and I only use wool.

Natalia Szymanska How many skeins do you think we'd need to get a blanket the size in this video? Love the price of the acrylic kind. Plus, it's sold in the US so the shipping would be faster for me. Thx!
As they mention in the description you gonna need from 10- 15 skeins to make a blanket, so if you could afford 15 skeins will be perfect if not 10 or 12 will be good for it
Bonsoir super magnifique.

How much of the yarn would I need. I see it for sale on ebay for 6.50
This blanket takes about 120 meters of merino wool roving which is about 3 kgs or 6 lbs of wool. I hope that helps.

I searched extreme thinking it would be difficult but it was just big
.
This made me dizzy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is this tutorial the same as this except longer? ua-cam.com/video/hQK8eeh2MsQ/v-deo.html
The tutorial you've found is just showing the how to knit through the back loop, it doesn't show how to cast on, knit the body of the blanket then cast off at the end. It's just there to show the technique of knitting through the back loop.

Worlds smallest v12 engine
Worlds smallest v12 engine
I don't see the relationship between v12 engines and arm knitting.... am I missing something?
there is a way much easier than this...what u did is so complicated
If you've found an easier way post the video link and share it with everyone.
Keep in mind though my blanket is very wide and not all stitches fit on the arm at one time. I also don't like using a long tail cast on when using wool roving, it wastes precious expensive fibers.

Stacy
I'm so sorry I gave your video a thumbs down...only for motion sickness with your video. I can't watch the whole thing with the camera attached to your body...that's all! Thank you!
This was actually one of my worst (and first ever) video's.... This more recent video should be much more user friendly ua-cam.com/video/xh3kpKnq1eE/v-deo.html Enjoy!
What is that??? Pink insulation? Good grief...
Oh dear! The secret is out,.... it is actually pink insualtion, but all natural merino wool pink insuation at that ;)
where did you buy this yarn from?
Yes this was my only question!!!!
WHERE CAN I GET THAT BIG BALL OF YARN?
It's in the description. 1 kg balls of yarn!!!
