People who buy a Rolex do it mostly as an investment like people who invest in stocks and shares (or show offs who don't really care about watches, let alone know something about watches) but with the piece of mind that you wont lose money (rather make a profit). which is fine. Watch lovers buy watches because of the movement (I don't mind a good quartz either, I have loads of digital Casios as well), design, Quality, attention to detail etc. Some keep their value, some go up and some lose their value. Went with another homage 5517 homage milsub brand called Silver as it is a 40mm, 12mm thick, domed sapphire crystal, 60 minute bezel with a Miyota 9015 movement. If I didn’t already have it, the WR4K would be an excellent alternative 5517 homage if it had a 60 minute dive bezel.
It is a shame Silver no longer make watches. I would have liked to review their piece. My original design included a ceramic Milsub bezel insert; unfortunately it isn't viable to produce it in a small batch of 100 pieces; therefore the standard RX8004 bezel insert had to be used. Regards, #WR4K
like the watch, unfortunately customs & duty adds 25% on top in my country. So far have an excellent experience with the quaility of Ironwatch. Extremely interesting what you said about the "crown" problem of the PT5000 and especially the ones inside the BB 58 Homage San Martin Watches. Own(ed) two. The black just has a very stiff and unruly one - is annoying but tolerable. The blue one sent back, because it was broken - the rotor was beside stiff attached to the crown after one day of usage. Otherwise the PT 5000 is a outstanding precise movement. All run +1 to +2 in every position. If its really just a "drop of oil" missing at the axis, San Martin should sink into the ground. On other side the three Steeldive using the PT5000 running like beetles... run and run and run :D - precise and very smoth crown action included. I wondered several times why so many BB58 Homage San Martin users do have problems with the crowns. They should have noticed meantime...- one thing I would have prefered at the Sub Homage is if the index marks would have a white gold sourrounding. But this is my personal taste I prefere. Otherwise a perfect watch... - hope for a ali sale...

I was waiting for this and It is exactly like I thought it would be :) My dad bought an Omega Seamaster back in the 60s and he could choose between Rolex and Omega, he says the price was the same and he was not a rich guy, not even close. You could actually buy Rolex for not that much money. This price today is just ridicolous. Its just insane what you can get from China for 300 euro... I bought my first Submariner 14060M 24 years ago for £2500 GBP. That was a fair price. I still see the Submariner as a 2000 Euro watch which is retailed for 10,000 Euro, and 14,000 Euro on the grey market. Yes, the Calibre 3230 in my 124060 is better than the 3130 used in my 14060M. However it doesn't justify the massive price increase. The truth is I enjoy wearing my WR4K just as much as my Submariner. One can relax and enjoy wearing it, without worrying about damaging it, as unlike the Submariner it isn't an investment piece which appreciates in value. There is more feel good factor from wearing a watch and not having to worry about scratches devaluing it. Agreed, if it has "Swiss Made" on the dial it would be 1000+ Euro. The reality is many "Swiss Made" mid-tier pieces are using Chinese made parts, as under Swiss law 60% of the value of the watch has to be Swiss. What that really means is 40% of the "Swiss made" watches parts can be Chinese made. Wear your WR4K in good health. Regards, #WR4K
Great comparison with good points. I want a Rolex but they just aren't worth current prices. I'm happy with my Black Bay 58 and am currently interested in the Monta Noble as I believe it to be better value than the Tudor Royal or Black Bay 36. The main difference would be brand cache.
The best Mil Sub homage, a watch Rolex never sold to the public for some reason, is the Ginault Ocean Rover. I have the original version, no date and sand lume. It even has the correct glide lock clasp and has a feel and finishing that must be experienced. BTW the bracelet on the WR4K can be purchased online. I think I bought the one I have from Ali Express. It is the same bracelet Pagani Design uses. I am using one to upgrade a Steeldive 1954 oem bracelet. You would be shocked to know this screw link, solid, polished, milled clasp bracelet costs less than $15!

What I miss with Submariner homages is how on the Sub the end and outer part of the lugs becomes more straight and gives the watch a more overall squarish rugged look. Minor thing but very aesthetically pleasing to me.

Excellent comparison, good video as always. Might comes around biased, but I don’t think you are, you own both watches and all your comparisons are fair in detail, e.g vinyl is vinyl. You give credit where credit is due and criticise where it’s due aswell. I personally, like the domed Saphire on the Ironwatch over the Rolex'. But also i prefer the applied indices on the submariner morey. Well, I guess one could summarise it to, yes the Rolex is the superior watch, better finishing, better movement, reputation etc, but is it worth the premium over the premium? Just for the watch, no. One buys it for the prestige, the name, maybe for the investment. If I’d want such a high quality piece, I’d get the Oceanking, to show off, and the Ironwatch as my everyday piece, since I wouldn’t need to worry about bumping into the door frame or countertops. But I totally get the appeal, Rolex is "the" Swiss watchbrand to many people. The Ironwatch might be a bit expensive for some, if you weigh in the ~20% tax on top in Europe. So this is the only part where your comparison lacks, given it’s not subject to the Rolex but rather to the Steinhart, without tax thats ~370€, with either a ETA 2824-2 or a SW-200 "élaboré". Ironwatch with the Swiss movement is over 400€, without tax. The steinhart would be the "cheaper" option. (I could be wrong about the taxes so pls feel free to correct me). But no sword hands! At the end of the day, the people buying the Rolex don't care about the details, they just care that it says Rolex. It's a piece of jewellery/fashion accessory.
While I agree this is how some people feel, many do sweat the details and a Rolex is simply a better made machine. They’re built to run for generations of lifetimes. I do dig this WR4K watch too, it’s very very nice for the money.
Excellent review as always, sir, but ... I'm a little confused. If you hadn't bought the Sub, then I'd have understood this video perfectly. But I presume you did buy it. So it feels like you're saying, "I don't think it's worth the money to buy it," while handing over the money to buy it. It's as though there's some x-factor for you - which is actually the biggest factor, one that negates all other disappointments - which makes it worth buying afterall. I was looking forward to hearing what this x-factor was as the video came to a close, but ... there was nothing there. Am I gormlessly missing something?
Thank you for watching Dave. I purchased my Submariner in August 2021. I bought my first Submariner 14060M 24 years ago; and have always liked the Submariner, and Submariner date, owning many. Since buying it in August 2021 the retail price increased, and also the grey market price. My point is this; 24 years ago I paid £2500 GBP for my Submariner; which was a fair price, the watch was worth it. My current Submariner is 14,000 Euro on the grey market currently; and it isn't worth it. As stated in my video; I see it as a 2000 Euro watch retailed for 10,000 Euro. They are a strong investment piece as they appreciate in value, versus other watches which depreciate in value. The other factor is this Submariner reminds me of my first one 24 years ago. I like the watch, but look at it objectively rather than as a Rolex fanboy with bias. I see it as excellent quality, and poor value. If it were 5000 Euro I would see it as excellent quality, and excellent value. There is also another factor that has changed the way I feel about the watch. Rolex has now become a social media hyped brand, and the Submariner is an investment piece; rather than being bought by collectors that like the watch. I dislike this aspect of the brand, and the Submariner. I bought my first Submariner because I liked it; not because it was an investment. This was before social media existed. Now I associate the Submariner with social media hype and investment which makes me dislike it. Regards, #WR4K
I simply cannot believe that people want to buy a Rolex watch, they earn far too much on "nothing", and then you should also punish them for all their deception regarding waiting lists etc.
People who buy Rolex watches are actually trying to convey THEIR PURCHASING POWER - not their knowledge of watches. I know - I own a few (there I just did it again). But now that I am older and know much about horology I wear everything: Digital quartz , chinese homages, mechanicals, automatics etc. I wear everything from Rolex to Casio.
If there's one thing I can say, Frederique Constant's packaging and papers blows Rolex's out of the water. Like it's not even close. Rolex have a nifty microchip thing going on, I'll give them that. Not really impressed though.
One comment Steinhart makes solid watches, but their designs are off for an homage watch. The shape of their cases and the clasps. If you're going to facsimile a watch, might as well get the shape of the case and clasps right...
I think It was not the point to copy the Rolex, but to create a new design starting from an existing idea. Yes, the steinhart is an homage, but its case itself is something different from any watch.
The Triplock crown is machined to a very high standard. The internal thread of the crown, and external thread of the crown tube are machined very well; therefore they feel silky smooth. The production cost of this is very high, due to the high QC. Therefore other brands can't do it. Regards, #WR4K

Excellent review as always, sir, but ... I'm a little confused.
If you hadn't bought the Sub, then I'd have understood this video perfectly.
But I presume you did buy it. So it feels like you're saying, "I don't think it's worth the money to buy it," while handing over the money to buy it.
It's as though there's some x-factor for you - which is actually the biggest factor, one that negates all other disappointments - which makes it worth buying afterall. I was looking forward to hearing what this x-factor was as the video came to a close, but ... there was nothing there.
Am I gormlessly missing something?
Thank you for watching Dave. I purchased my Submariner in August 2021. I bought my first Submariner 14060M 24 years ago; and have always liked the Submariner, and Submariner date, owning many. Since buying it in August 2021 the retail price increased, and also the grey market price. My point is this; 24 years ago I paid £2500 GBP for my Submariner; which was a fair price, the watch was worth it. My current Submariner is 14,000 Euro on the grey market currently; and it isn't worth it. As stated in my video; I see it as a 2000 Euro watch retailed for 10,000 Euro. They are a strong investment piece as they appreciate in value, versus other watches which depreciate in value. The other factor is this Submariner reminds me of my first one 24 years ago. I like the watch, but look at it objectively rather than as a Rolex fanboy with bias. I see it as excellent quality, and poor value. If it were 5000 Euro I would see it as excellent quality, and excellent value. There is also another factor that has changed the way I feel about the watch. Rolex has now become a social media hyped brand, and the Submariner is an investment piece; rather than being bought by collectors that like the watch. I dislike this aspect of the brand, and the Submariner. I bought my first Submariner because I liked it; not because it was an investment. This was before social media existed. Now I associate the Submariner with social media hype and investment which makes me dislike it. Regards, #WR4K

I simply cannot believe that people want to buy a Rolex watch, they earn far too much on "nothing", and then you should also punish them for all their deception regarding waiting lists etc.
People who buy Rolex watches are actually trying to convey THEIR PURCHASING POWER - not their knowledge of watches. I know - I own a few (there I just did it again). But now that I am older and know much about horology I wear everything: Digital quartz , chinese homages, mechanicals, automatics etc. I wear everything from Rolex to Casio.
Whats the difference between the RX8004 and the RX8004-B?
The RX8004 has Mercedes hands and the "Ironwatch" logo. The RX8004-B has Milsub sword hands and the "WR4K" logo. Regards, #WR4K
If there's one thing I can say, Frederique Constant's packaging and papers blows Rolex's out of the water. Like it's not even close. Rolex have a nifty microchip thing going on, I'll give them that. Not really impressed though.

One comment Steinhart makes solid watches, but their designs are off for an homage watch. The shape of their cases and the clasps. If you're going to facsimile a watch, might as well get the shape of the case and clasps right...

I think It was not the point to copy the Rolex, but to create a new design starting from an existing idea.
Yes, the steinhart is an homage, but its case itself is something different from any watch.

Hello why is impossible to replicate the way that crown screw and unscrew of a Rolex? I had a 14060 and really screw and unscrew crown was a pleasure.
The Triplock crown is machined to a very high standard. The internal thread of the crown, and external thread of the crown tube are machined very well; therefore they feel silky smooth. The production cost of this is very high, due to the high QC. Therefore other brands can't do it. Regards, #WR4K

It's a matter of preference. I really like the execution of the black bays but the style/ design crown is a deal breaker for me. I really prefer the more aggressive Rolex crown...

Do your research properly the inside of the glide lock clasp is Teflon coated !!!!!!

In my review I am referring to the unpolished finishing to the interior of the clasp which is diecast Oystersteel. The interior of the body is not Teflon coated, the sliding pads on the Glidelock are. Regards, #WR4K
They could electropolishing that piece. I used manufacture medical devices we had our own electropolishing system, passivation.
