    Great Dan I wish that in my time we had the technology to video all my adventures spearfishing I remember catching a real big king hogfish and when I was going to pass it thru the wire like you do a giant tiger swallow it whole without biting it right in front of me, only inches away. That would of been a great video. I enjoy each and every one of your videos thank you for this! Take care of yourself!

    There doesn’t seem to be many times where you have to judge if a fish is of legal size. Do you think that’s based on only the big, mature fish venture out to the middle grounds? Do you ever see small gags in the middle grounds. Again, really enjoy living vicariously through you, Dan.

    • @danmacmahon3973
      @danmacmahon3973  3 роки тому +1

      Adam, most of the Grouper on the MG are legal size but a few may be too short. If I have to try and decide if a fish is legal or not, almost every time I'll pass it up and look for something larger. It's really an experience thing , after lots of years doing it, you just "know" if it's legal or not. And of course, the farther off shore you go, the less small fish there are. Glad you're enjoying the videos! Best, Dan

    I've wondered why you don't use those balloons for the stringer more often... I know you run the risk of something getting to an undefended stringer but it gets the food away from you. Great vid Dan.

    • @danmacmahon3973
      @danmacmahon3973  3 роки тому

      Hey Craig, we do use the Lift Bags when the Circumstances are right. Sand Bars can and will chase it to the top and chew it up pretty good before the boat can get on it. Last Summer we had a pack of 5-6 foot silkys all over us, so I decided to send the fish up and then swim 100 yards away during deco so I wouldn't have to deal with them. Didn't work out as they followed the boat over when it came to get me and I was surrounded again. Best, Dan

    • @danmacmahon3973
      @danmacmahon3973  3 роки тому +1

      Robert, average visibility in that area is usually 50-60 feet. It can top 100 feet occasionally and can drop to 1 foot after a Tropical system or a really bad winter cold front. Glad you enjoyed the video! Best, Dan

    I still don't get it!
    Why people give you thumps down, obviously they cannot be spear fisherman's!
    Anyway was wondering what are your thoughts on Shark Shield for protection. After reading your long post with your experience with the white suits I almost call my doctor for some xanax or cannabis to relax. Didn't want to check my blood pressure with fear of blowing the arm cuff!!
    Just picking your brain on your opinion. Thanks, pray that God will keep you, crew and family safe.

      RV, I've never tried one so I have no personal knowledge about them. I've gotten some second hand reports from a few guys that have them and some swear by them and others say it's a waste of good money and you can count on shocking yourself with it. I decided not to mess with them, but I certainly would understand why some would. If you give one a shot, would like to know your opinion. Best, Dan

      Hey Keith, I've never had a significant problem with NN. I do try to keep my EAD down to 130' or so. What was interesting is when gopros first came out and we reviewed the dives, there were def differences between how your mind recalled the dive and what the camera showed. Not huge differences, more subtle stuff. For an example, your brain might remember a big Black coming in from your hard right, but the camera showed that he actually was more behind you, stuff like that. I always say "well the camera doesn't get Narced" so we'll go with that! Best, Dan

    • @daveobsoleteammo4547
      @daveobsoleteammo4547 3 роки тому +1

      It is a really BIG place to find fish in , but I am POSITIVE that the divers who do this for a living will NEVER give away what places they have found . Next year when they come back again they would find ZERO anything to collect if they gave away that information . Those places are kept secret , and not visited very often so some fish will still be there when they come again .

      Fishing , any kind of fishing , is not fair to the fish . If you catch fish and let them go it is considered sporting ( take a photo ) . Dan is a diver who uses special equipment and a special mix of what to breathe to allow him to go down deeper .
      He is not breathing oxygen , as oxygen that deep would kill you . He gathers fish for a supplier who then sells fish to large restaurants so you will find different fish on the menu when you go there . This is his job , and it is very dangerous down that deep . Maybe you should be watching freediving videos , not spearfishing .
