    Thanks for the tips about waiting for the glide and how to string a trigger...two things I did not know

    • @danmacmahon3973
      @danmacmahon3973  4 роки тому +5

      Yeah, fish only burn a lot of energy when they're trying to eat something or trying to avoid being eaten. Usually it's one or two kicks and then glide. They usually don't change direction when gliding, which leads to a relatively easy shot. Trigger fish will make you bleed if you don't string them through the mouth. Another way to do it is to come straight up through the lower jaw and out the mouth, either way works.
      Best, Dan

    Hey Dan, I'm a diver of 25 years. I learned something from every video of yours, today's lesson was put the fish ring through the trigger fishes mouth. And of course as you're carrying the fish ring the fish could still bite you, thanks for your videos. Still want to see the tutorial on you are gun!

    Best Spearing videos out there, any way you could do a little boat time to show off what you shot, big fish different species. I think it would add a cool little element to already great videos.

      BB, we've all been there, on a tournament not that many years ago, the Moose was in a hurry and didn't string it properly. It latched onto his inner thigh and had to be cut off with a knife on the boat. Big trigger too...8-9 pounder, ugly ugly bite, still makes me laugh to this day! Best, Dan

    I'm a shallow water diver spearfisher. I don't even use a dive computer.
    Curious to how many dives a day you can make to the depths you go?

    • @danmacmahon3973
      @danmacmahon3973  4 роки тому

      RK, it really varies, depending on time of year and water depth and a host of other factors. I never redive with less than an hour of SI, and prefer more, sometimes a lot more. . Sorry I couldn't be more precise. Best, Dan

    I use to dive the grounds back in the late 90 I never saw many red snappers now I see the all over have you also noted this. Also lion fish everywhere never saw then in the grouds

    • @danmacmahon3973

      FN, yeah they started showing up in heavy numbers maybe 15 years ago or so. The funny thing is , in the 1800's the MG was known as a Red Snapper bank. They even built a Railroad down to the Panhandle to get them back to the NE quickly for consumption. I started diving the MG in 1979 and never saw one out there until late 90's. Thanks for watching, Best, Dan

      @@danmacmahon3973 I was wondering, based on how you ended your replies to fans' questions. "Best, Dan". Now it makes sense. Where'd you learn how to use mixed gas? Why do you switch gases on the way up, or do you do it on the way down as well? Is the twin outboard the current boat, or the twin screw inboard I've also seen? Which do you prefer?

    • @danmacmahon3973
      @danmacmahon3973  4 роки тому

      Jack, because Hogs are so dumb, they'll usually stick around and can be speared when all the warier fish have dispersed. Great question! Thanks for watching, Best, Dan

    Hey Dan, ever see/shoot Cuberas on your dives?

    • @danmacmahon3973
      @danmacmahon3973  4 роки тому

      Hunter, yes we do. Probably 6-8 a year. Don't really target them and they can burn up the entire dive in deep water. Plus they don't pay very well. I know a few spots where there's usually a few big one hanging around but you've got to commit to them first thing. I usually would rather check out the Carbo/Gag situation before plowing a big Cubera. Good question, thanks, Dan
