David Krumholtz (Oppenheimer, Numbers) joins us this week to candidly share his experience overcoming thyroid cancer, the difficulties surrounding this disease while working in Hollywood, and how it was preceded by a nine month panic attack. Later, David talks about the validation he received from Christopher Nolan after landing a prominent role in Oppenheimer, his humbling first day on set, and a crazy story of how auditioning for this part evidently led to him becoming sober. We also talk The Santa Clause, pivoting on Numbers, and a horror story of a honeymoon.

DAVID KRUMHOLTZ Shares the Nerves Heading Into His OPPENHEIMER Audition for CHRISTOPHER NOLAN #insideofyou #davidkrumholtz #christophernolan - Розваги
I will never get over the fact that this guy is Bernard from the Santa Clause movies. Such a treat to see him in Oppenheimer!
He also played that weird comm guy in Serenity. Every time I see him in something I think of The Santa Clause and Serenity characters. He has played some unusual characters.
I was thinking of Bernard every scene he was in.
Can't get over the fact he played Joel in Addams Family Values (Wednesday stole the show), when I saw Oppenheimer, at first I couldn't identify him, I had to search for the credits, was so surprised he went "fat" to this movie.
If Nolan had called him Barabbas, he wouldn't have corrected him.
I just always see the guy from 10 things I hate about you
What a career David has had, from Addams Family Values to 10 Things I Hate About You, Harold and Kumar and Numbers, he knocks it out of the park every single time.
Love him in Serenity
I know him since Addams Family Values, at first I couldn't identify him in Oppenheimer, had to search for the credits and I thought "WOW, he went so fat for this role".
He did teach me about blumkins
Always and forever will be Bernard the Elf for me!
No kidding. From an early age, all the way to now. Great actor, great works.
Fantastic performance from David 👏🏽
"Tell Groves to shit in his hat." Loved David's performance in Oppenheimer.
Great performance, he delivered some of the best lines in the movie.
It's confirmed that all 3 leading male actors from "10 Things I hate about you" have worked with Christopher Nolan
Larisa Oleynik come back starts now! Lol
I was just thinking about this guy in Oppenheimer! In a film with outstanding performances from every actor, this guy was the one where I was like "but that guy though! That guy's really doing something." IDK but something about this guy- I was just like he's really good in this. Fantastic performance.
He is great in the Harold and Kumar movies too.
His scene expressing why he doesn't want to work on the b9mb made me cry.
That scene and the one when Ernest Lawrence shows up to testify and he gives him that look before he decides to leave and makes up an excuse for not being able to testify.
@@sk8mafia214 Can you tell me why did he do that?
@@sandeshwankhade09 why did he make up the excuse to not appear or why he was coming to testify?
Im around the same age as David and since I was a kid, I always loved seeing him pop up in stuff because he was always so good. Its crazy to hear that he doesn't see himself as being good enough when hes been doing it so long.
It's crazy how its just two scenes when in the final cut (and sounds like he got more scenes after the audition), he plays a really important character in Oppenheimer's life as the friend he can rely on for giving brutally honest advice. David had a great peformance!
..and an orange
He plays the moral center of the movie.
I think the audition was only two scenes, but the part was larger than that.
Nolan’s secretive; the part was always big. It didn’t grow after the audition; he just got to see the full extent of the part once he was cast
When i saw this guy in the movie I also thought “Oh cool, he’s in this!” Even as someone who doesn’t work in Hollywood I knew it was a big elevation for his career, and was super happy for him.
I’ve loved him ever since 10 Things I Hate About You, and I am glad to see him in everything.
Very good movie and performance!
He was SO GOOD in that movie man. Everyone was fantastic
Krumholtz was an absolute revelation as Isidor Isaac Rabi. Such a genial, likable figure...my favorite character in the film.
Michael does such excellent, intuitive interviews! (I have always said he's an amazingly intuitive actor, right on the nose emotionally in a role.) And David is so extremely likable. What a pleasure.
Never seen Oppenheimer but from what everyone is saying in these comments, David really shines in it. I love his honesty and humor too, here. ❤
I cried a lot on his scene
I love David hes a great scene stealer
Just need to say what a performance from you David, i really came to love the man that Isidor, you gave great life to this man.
Nolan hires good people and that’s why he gets the best performances
You crushed it Bernard! Felt good to see dude in the film.
Christopher Nolan strikes me as a perfectionist hearing how funny and jokey he is shows he’s a real person. I’m hoping this is his Oscar year
The power of this movie, for me, is that every character is a real human. It's nice that the actors worked to bring out their humanity. So many of these "bit characters" could sustain movies on their own...
OMG I LOVE this story and feel every bit of it, including the brewery visit after 😂
Nicest part is got sober too. Love the honest.
I think of Joel Glicker😂 "Do you know what happens if my mother uses a fabric softener? What? I die."
Kudos that he has a tabla behind him!
In a movie with so many great actors, he was able to stand out. He provide some much needed comic relief but also gave the movie humanity, heart, and soul.
Chris Nolan gives me hope for humanity.
Damn good for him! 👏
Inspiring, great story.
"You can't stop the signal Mal!"
Such a great actor that it’s weird to see him just being himself.
Very underrated actor. Does a brilliant job in everything I’ve seen him in.
Always loved this guy
fantastic performance 👍
He is fantastic in the movie.
And what a phenomenal performance it was, not to mention right alongside some heavy, heavy hitters.
That's actually good advice, the bit about the drive home.
He was great in the movie. Because i didnt even recognize him until the credits rolled.
I was sitting there wondering who was playing Rabi the entire way through Oppenheimer (in IMAX) and when I looked it up after I was stunned. It was such a great performance. Him and Josh Hartnett
Ome of the standout performances from the movie
Nice job david
He gave the best performance in the film after Murphy's.
Addams Family, Life with Mikey, dude's always been a great actor. Hope to see him in more!
"The guy built you the atomic bomb. What more could you want? Mermaids"
Chris was so correct. His performance in Numb3rs was very good.
Amd you took the stairs😂😂😂
Mr. 71st Continental stole every scene he was in. Never thought Nolan to be the type not to use his words.
Great performance in Oppenheimer. Btw, he looks a bit like Jake Johnson here.
So the story is he thought he did bad but he actually did good and then did good in the movie
I feel like that's standard for artists. I'm a photographer (been full time since 2017, but shooting since 2008), and I feel like a full 3/4ths of my shoots aren't all that great. And then clients are all thrilled with the images. I had a woman about a week and a half ago who cried when I showed her the photos because she never had any good family shots done when she was a kid, and loved the ones of her family now that I did. I remember walking away feeling like I didn't get anything all that great. Basically, we're our own worst critics.
Amazing shirt Michael. So glad the stigma is lessening. They're here
Some profesional whom he overpaid did him a disservice.
that would be awesome if nolan was like "i loved you in harold and kumar"
"I don't know who believes me, but I wish they would show up right now. And then it happens." - Everyone but me.
Maybe Christopher Nolan is a big fan of 10 things I hate about you. Christopher Nolan casted Heath ledger, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and David krumholtz in his movies. Julia stiles is next 😂
Acting is hard af.
David will always be my Mr. Universe! (Serenity) ... Love this dude. Underrated actor, but then again, not to Christopher Nolan and apparently not to Joss Whedon either. So maybe not so underrated after all. Much love.
He's losing his hair but he's lucky, cause he has enough in front to make it work, props to him dammit, I've been dealing with the loss of hair, IN FRONT, THE SIDES, AND THE BACK 😥 i make it work too by doing a fohawk mixed with Verbal Kint style if you know the reference
(5:36) Seems like a PTSD from the "Terminator: Salvation" leaked script.
Bernard!!! Jk love him
Didn't recognize him at all in that movie, remember that dude from Numb3rs.
He's still the young guy I thought he was, not the fat middle aged man he portrays in Oppenheimer. He really fooled me! Great job!
Nolan looks real facty from my view.
Plastered off 3 beers? lol
"Groves can shit in his hat." I loved how the scientists were portrayed as fun normal people with real emotional responses. Rabi was the coolest.
Joey Tribiani would advise you to play the role gay 😅
Acting notes seem like the most vague and cryptic advice I’ve ever heard. Why can’t they just be direct?
If you're going in alone, could you also say that's a sign they are very sure of you? Like, you've already got this made? That this would make you nervous, is that a bit of imposter syndrome?
It does seem like imposter syndrome for sure. I like to believe if I was the only one there, I’d know for a fact I’m where I’m suppose to be and not doubt myself.
Good luck on his sobriety.
He clearly has a drinking problem
It's clear in the movie he was overacting. I don't want to shit on an artist's work but this character took me out of it a little.
I saw this interview before the movie and was curious. I like this actor in other stuff (the Deuce). Still would watch more of his work.
So he's drinking beer ALL DAY then thinks he can take a time out then drive home? Jesus Christ. He should be in jail.
Why is this see you next therapy session is rambling and why do I care?
Boring 🥱
DeNiro is a pretty big introvert. The story was fine, but the elevator comment was just a bit too much for him.
