Quoting the official Nintendo Power Players guide, "The Arwing's revolutionary G-diffuser system generates a force field that protects the ship from enemy fire and from the stresses of high speed aerobatics." G force is not a factor. Regarding their legs, originally Star Fox was planed to be made as a television drama, akin to Thunder Birds, using puppets (which is a recurring motif in Nintendo's other commercial adverts and even game elements and characters because of Miyamotos long running admiration of puppeteering, e.g. Puppet Ganon in Wind Waker or the puppets used in a JPN Four Swords commercial) the legs (looked) mechanical because they were basically action figure joints and all subsequent media took cues from the original puppet designs, which followed even to the puppets made by Jim Henson Studios for the Star Fox Zero promotion.
Nintendo Power Players isn't even canon though, it's some American magazine, so you are quoting something which no actual Japanese official or creator of the franchise has ever even said, heck you aren't even quoting even the Japanese, who are the creators of this franchise. Your quote is thus useless, it was literally the Nintendo power Player thing that created the myth that they have metal legs, and the actual Japanese creators had to come out and correct this myth and say they don't have metal legs. I am pretty sure I am going to listen to the actual creator of something, over some random American kids spreading around myths.
Wanna chat with me? For the next hour, I'll be over at my Star Fox Reality Check video (bit.ly/1K9s21t) answering your questions and talking all things THEORY!
Okay, question: What microphone and/or headset do you use? I'm pretty sure you already answered this in one of your videos, but I just want to make sure.
Matpat, you may understand anatomy, but this is the realm of fluid dynamics. This is the ratio of blood in the system vs space for that blood away from vital organs. You are correct that the body would not stand a whole human's worth of blood while legless, but look instead at the pilot in the high Gz state. Blood flow across the body is a combination of muscles and blood pressure. Blood naturally wants to pool in the legs as part of gravity, but pressure and a constant flow makes it easy to keep blood flowing to the brain. A non-amputated human in a high Gz state has the blood sinking into the legs, since the extra g forces overwhelms the careful balance. This also happens to amputated people, but the lack of legs means that the blood is pooling closer to the heart, meaning the pressure differential at the heart is less. This leads to a higher likelihood that the increased blood pressure near the heart will push blood upward into the brain.
eating raw faces is my least favorite thing to do. Minus the angry part, I think yelling my first comment would sound pretty funny. I can just imagine the most offkey voice singing while using a violin bow on a guitar XDD
Chris Biebel Basically, ( if i remember correctly ) Miyamoto said that it was just metal boots and the fact that it looked like metal legs was just a design choice.
I remember reading an interview with Miyamoto (or a similar high up at Nintendo) who said the only reason they had metal legs originally is because they didn't think the feet of the puppets would be photo'd, so they just built something that would support the top half of the body. He even pointed to Starfox adventures as an example of fox not having metal legs as he's wearing boots instead.
It's kind of weird that he just referred to the Star Fox 1 character images as "artwork". He never even seemed to realize they were photos of actual puppets.
ScrapzMask *Teams Not team’s That’s like saying “My team is name is Star Fox.” But when you take out the apostrophe it becomes “My teams name is Star Fox.” Ya see what I’m saying?
ARealyWitty Pun - Sorry, but you're the wrong one. That applies to "its" and "it's" but not to most nouns. The apostrophe is used for both possession and contractions. "Its/it's" is an exception. I don't know why; perhaps because "it" is a pronoun, and using "its" for the possessive form keeps it in line with "his" and "her". But that's just a theory - a grammar theory. ;)
Imma be a party pooper and say that since Starfox Adventure they retconned the whole robot legs as you can clearly see in the designs for the following games since adventure.
Jamal Davis they said in an interview, because they felt it was too dark. If you look at the designs, Fox wears bulky boots and Krystal uses more tight boots but they're still following the form of her legs. You can find the info easily in google, even in Dykgaming about Starfox.
I thought it was kinda weird how fast Fox could run in Star Fox Assault. But the whole not being able to balance on their normal animal feet is disproven with Krystal. In Adventures..you see her wearing sandals. Her feet are kinda humanlike, but still look like paws. She walks and runs normal in that game.
Just a thought, considering the futuristic setting of Star Fox, couldn't the robotic legs also be designed to increase blood flow and stuff to reduce the effects of G-force?
+Nickolas Marchuk Maybe, but what's more interesting is the fact that people with a higher blood pressure would fair better in the air. This means Biggie Smalls is a good candidate for being a fighter pilot.
+Matthew Geiberras "Biggie Smalls" is a bad choice for a fighter pilot because dogfights are really stressful for the body, WW2 pilots after Midway had to be lifted out of the cockpit because they were so tired. Also the higher his weight the more effect G has on the body.
+Nickolas Marchuk i have the nintendo power that goes over this, the magizine it says, "Early Fox designs had his feet stuffed into constrictive metal boots. These new kicks (it was star fox assault's model) are far more comfortable but still offer plenty of protection." he has legs in the newer models, so im calling this game theory 40% true because there were more games without the metal legs.
spinHinaspin kagiyama I've noticed there's been a bit of a cultural shift from 2014 to now. So I get where he's coming from, even if we're thinking of two different things.
That's how I feel when watching SGBlikestoplay, and realizing that some of the LPs I watched when they come out, and are now re-watching, are 3-4 years old.
Also the legs could be a plugin interface allowing fox to go from tank to aerotech to anything and the machines onboard AI will automatically know what fox wants allowing him to pilot anything with great skill.
I do not approve of this new practice of adding Fezzes to people in photos, I recommend a Bowler Hat instead, everyone knows those are much more _classy_.
MatPat if you read nintendos description of the Arwing they have a G-diffuser system, which greats an artificial gravity to cancel out G-forces. Plus you didn't put in the Kardeshev Scale, a scale to tell us what a civilization migth look like based on the energy they have. We humans are a type 0.75 but the Cornerians based on the technology with the abilty to use hyperspeed, it shows that the they are type 2.80 or type 3 civilization. Meaning their technology is much more advance than our tech, which is what you use in this video as a comparison. So they are just wearing metal boots, which was also confirmed by one of the creators of the game in a live stream while playing Star Fox Zero that they are wearing boots.
Chris Hayes It was a change in canon. They originally had the prosthetic legs, but somewhere along the way everyone forgot why, ha, so when third party teams picked up the franchise, they just turned them into metal boots to make things easier.
Chris Hayes I Completely agree he only had 3 things as evidence that were all 10 years old take a good look at the fox amiibo he has legs and BTW MatPat his name is Fox Mcloud not "Star Fox"
The whole idea that star fox's metal legs make them run faster can't be canon or true. Look at them in any other game, adventures/ assault, etc. They don't run very fast, even when compared to landmasters in the multiplayer. Maybe the reason they're running so fast in the N64 multiplayer was just due to good old fashioned N64 fantasy fun, and to create a somewhat balanced multiplayer addition. Maybe the whole reason the creators of star fox gave them metal legs was because back in the good old SNES days, it was still earnestly believed that having no legs as a fighter pilot would make you a better pilot as you would be less susceptible to g-force (case in point, the cultural and historical impact of those three fighter pilots from world war two who had no legs)
PokeYankeefan You can make the "ignorant game developer" argument for almost any of the Game Theory videos. I think that argument kinda defeats the whole purpose of the videos.
PokeYankeefan Yeah, I was thinking that the whole time. Its kinda dumb he's ignoring things that disprove his theory outright, especially when its visible in canon material at a glance.
ok, so the Star Fox team amputated their legs to allow them to walk on two legs and use their other limbs as hands. then, what about Krystal? clearly no robo-legs in Stairfax Temperatures, and she is a master of hand-to-hand and melee weapon combat. or General Pepper? Star Wolf? any of the other members of Star Fox added in SF Command? Andross, to an extent? General Scales? also, I think Death Battle stated that Star Fox's Arwings had built-in G Diffusers, which could mean they help lessen the G Forces on the pilots.
+TheLegend1800 Alright some things to tackle here. Although i'd argue that Death Battle is not a valid source of information, they are correct in that the Arwing ships are equipped with G-diffusers which prevents the problem of blood rushing into your legs and feet, among other problems. However this concept wasn't introduced until Star Fox 64. The Star Fox team has had their robotic legs since Star Fox on the SNES (if you look at promotional art). And the reason why Krystal and Fox and the other characters in Star Fox Adventures don't have robotic legs is because it's a different developer that made it. Rare ware made the Adventure title, and their design features Fox and the other characters with normal organic legs. I can't explain the Star Wolf team or General Pepper because i've never seen them with their legs in sight. (Well Pepper looks like he has normal organic legs but i'm not sure).
Hey Matpat, I know you probably won't see this, but I think that your Theme would make an AWESOME ringtone!! I don't know if anyone else here thinks the same way about it, but I would certainly buy it and I know a lot of other friends of mine that would TOTALLY love to buy it too. Just a request but I love it and I think others would too.
Or you could just rip the video to an mp3, cut the audio track to just the intro, save it as a song, send it to your iTunes, and set it as a ringtone....that's what I did for JonTron's theme:P
Why is no one talking about the G-Diffuser systems, the fictional devices in the Arwings that counteracts high G forces making all of that unnecessary? Seriously. All of the whole blood pressure argument is for naught because Arwing pilots don't have to worry about G forces.
Josh Lucas The blue things on the wings are the Gravity Diffusion/G-Diffuser system. That's the part that fires laser and generates the force field that protects the pilot from enemy fire and the stresses of high speed aerobatics. (Official Nintendo Power Player's Guide) It's called the G-diffuser anti-force generator in the game’s manual. Google it.
Jerade Hensley well that would actually support the point that this video comes up with that the amputated legs have nothing to do with the G forces and have to do with standing up on two legs and running faster and being able to better able to handle the foot controls while in the plane
MatPat can't stop thinking about a particular horror game and goes, "Look what you've done to me!" And I can't help but feel the exact same anger whenever he brings up that game in all his videos that have nothing to do with that game!
Lyndan You can blame all the kiddies who think FNAF games are the best games ever. And then of course screaming in the comments for a video about them. Or you know some people could just find FNAF's story very interesting but don't have or want to take the time to figure it out (as it is kind of confusing). I don't mind the FNAF videos but after having three in a row I really don't want them even being mentioned anymore.
They do, after all acceleration is still a thing in space. Sure there might not be gravity, but acceleration doesn't need that or air, just an outside force applied to the object.
TheLifeMeaningof Yes. G forces are a result of chances in velocity (acceleration), not gravity itself. Gravity is an acceleration (or a force), and as such, the unit of G-force is in relation to what g-forces Earth exerts on us at the planets surface, which we arbitrarily called one G.
TheLifeMeaningof Why wouldn't they? I suppose you are assuming you need gravity present. I'll rephrase it so you can picture it. If you are in car and the car accelerates fast, you get pushed back in your seat. this has nothing to do with gravity, but is an example of the Gx force. In space, if your space ship accelerated rapidly, you would experience the same thing. this has to do with inertia, but not really the point, other than gravity is necessary for G-forces. G-forces are just forces measured relative to gravity.
***** actually no. You are believing a stereotypical concept. And people like you are trying to complain with an insignificant amount of knowledge of the topic. Actually only about 2% of us are into any amount of zoophilia.
Um, the argument at 10:30 makes sense and all, until you realize that if there is no legs, the blood can't pool up so far away from the heart, and while blood pressure at default may stay the same, the blood pressure increase from G-forces is much closer to the heart without legs than with. The rest of it makes sense though.
CreeperOnYourHouse I don't think you understood the video. G-forces do not actually change your blood pressure. What the video says is that as g-forces go up, your body's blood pressure must go up to accommodate the extra force, or else blood will not be able to circulate. The reason why a g-suit works is because the balloons in the suit can increase their size and apply more pressure to the body, raising the overall blood pressure in the body. Metal legs do not have this benefit. They cut out the veins and arteries to shorten the distance, but since the body is producing less blood to compensate, your overall blood pressure is unaffected. So in short, unless the metal legs are hooked up to the circulatory system and have the capability to alter blood pressure as needed, they are literally no different than having normal, biological legs without a g-suit. The distance is irrelevant, it's all about pressure. Having a shorter distance just would mean that the blood would pool at the thighs and knees instead of the calves and feet without a change in BP.
Wolf Guard His argument was that it doesn't matter because the heart stays the same distance from the head. Also, arteries can act like balloons, blood can pool up in them. If they're pooled closer, more of the blood stays closer to the heart, which does matter when you realize that the pressure buildup in the arteries can have the effect of having enough pressure to keep some blood up. The pressure is the way that G-suits work: The legs expand from the blood, so the suits expand to compress the arteries, making them smaller and have less room for blood, and forcing more blood to stay in the body. Eliminate the feet factor, and those arteries expanding are much closer and any back pressure from the blood is more effective. If you keep the feet, the blood pools up in the feet, and the back pressure is mostly effective in the legs, keeping little for the torso.
Hey! Nobody better reply nasty things to that, because that is good!!! Construction is key... Meh... Anyway, yeah, I expected there to be a lot of haters here. :/ the internet is weird. (Unique)
Creation Realm Wait, hold on while I disect what you're saying. You're insulting me to try to compensate for the surprisingly small amount of hate on my comment as a joke, yes?
"Alright, I waited til we were alone to ask this. That's me being nice. Can I (snnrk), can I see your legs?" "You're...you're serious." "Well you know, people talk, word gets around, I'm genuinely curious." "Can't you just take my word for it that I don't have robotic legs?" "I'd really like to, but (heh), can't you do it for me just this once? I gotta know for sure."
I was being sarcastic before but no the metal part doesn't really overlap the pants and the ankle joint is too small to be flesh and bone so it's definitely automail.
Johnny Vulture When I see a Death Battle video, I'm like: "K, the weakest will win because they always have something up their sleeves in the last seconds", and to this day I only have been wrong once. On the Gundam Wing Fight.
***** random unfunny pop culture? Let's take a look at this plotline. I don't know why, but random things introduced in early acts coming together in unexpected ways to produce something amazing is beautiful to me. (act 3-5 spoilers below): Jade and her dream self are introduced in act 3. We're meant to assume that her dream self is merely a way of seeing images of the future, as well as a potential way of talking with John after he wakes up. We also meet Jade's dog, Bec, who is the world's "first guardian", and therefore is near-omnipotent. In the first flash he's in, we see Jade shoot him and him teleport throughout the universe. In the end of act 4, Jade's dream self dies. We think that this happens just to put the kids at a disadvantage, and turn Jade away from sleeping after that horrifying dream bubble animation. In act five during the Enter animation, John tries to prototype Jade's kernelsprite with something stupid, but Bec won't allow that. He prototypes himself into the kernel, giving all the enemies (and most importantly, Jack Noir, making him unbeatable). Why? Nobody knew at the time, but if he presumably loves Jade, then why would he strive to make an almost unbeatable final boss? The kernels second prototyping is with Jade's dead dream self, an act done to try to resurrect her like she did with the bird outside of Dave's window (-.-), however, her dream self hates it and runs away to the battlefield. Later on in the act, John god tiers, and we learn the true purpose of the dream self. When you ascend got tier via quest bed, your physical body combines with your dream self to give you powers based on your class and aspect. At the end of the act, Jade dies, and Jack Noir, combined with Bec's undying loyalty for Jade, carries her to her quest bed where she ascends God Tier. If her dream self had remained dead, this would be impossible and she just died. However, since she combined her dream self with the sprite HUNDREDS OF PAGES EARLIER, she god tiers on the battlefield, combining herself with Bec and also gaining most of his powers. However, that's not even why Bec prototyped himself. Act five introduces the green sun. It was talked about earlier, but in this act it's revealed that it's the source of the first guardian's power. Dave and Rose went on a mission to destroy it, and take out all of Jack's powers so they could kill him. The mission fails, and ends up actually creating the Green Sun. Now, if you'll remember, first guardians are also omniscient, meaning that Bec _knew_ what was going to happen. He knew that prototyping himself would lead to an unstoppable boss, leading Dave and Rose to destroy the source of his power. He also knew that they would fail, and create the source of his own power, allowing him to exist at all. TL;DR trivial act 3-4 stuff comes together to form a beautiful act five
What about taking into consideration that the metal legs are not actually just steel legs but actually robotic, as they would need to be anyway to preform any walking motion anyway. The legs could be a cybernetic enhancement. In simple terms: the legs could also act as 2 separate but synchronized hearts. pumping blood back up to the rest of the body when under extreme G force, just like the Jet fighters pants.
also if you sit in an airplane for too long your legs will fall asleep i do not think it would be possible for fox McCloud to jump off of his plane and run away after flying so long
link you mean to tell me that they invented near-infinite amounts of power to power spaceships, but not special chairs that absorb and properly cushion your body?
I have theory that you have not mentioned, that these pilots have their legs amputated to prevent, or at least reduce, the effect of Spaceflight Osteopenia. During long duration space flights, excessive bone loss and the associated increase in serum calcium ion levels will interfere with the execution of mission tasks and result in irreversible skeletal damage, due to less gravity acting on the body. Many astronauts who go on long term space missions suffer with walking when they arrive back on Earth. Maybe the metal legs help them to combat this. But hey, that's just a theory...
In ww2 there was a pilot that had both legs amputated, he used this to his advantage because now he could handle more G-force without blacking out and could do more advanced maneuvers
There is one huge hole in your entire theory... If the creators and writers couldn't even get some of the most well known flight maneuvers... they would have no clue about any of the science... They just did it to make them look more futuristic and cool...
Joshua Baker I wasn't sure how to take it, it's the Internet. They need to make a sarcasm/joking font, so people like me, who can't tell without body language and vocal intonation, can get a bit of help.
so, taking this theory into account, is that why every sonic character where's shoes. pretty much every sonic character is 4 legged and that's why sonic runs stable?
MatPat doesn't theorize that Star Fox characters have metal legs, he takes the assumption they have metal legs and finds out why they might have them if anything this video debunks the idea that they might have metal legs, since he says they have no purpose against G-Force, and are only good for running, which wasn't even possible in the first game
kurintehgamer Star Fox SNES was the first game, Star Fox 64 came later and Star Fox had no multiplayer, and was only space travel, so there was no need for them having metal legs in the original game and they've had roughly the same design since the first game, so it's not something they added for the N64 version either
Oooooooor they are just metallic boots and they look different throughout the years and evolved to actually look like boots -shrugs- it's just a though -_- I mean to be honest I believe they are just boots just back then we didn't have the high text we have now so it would look tacky or like what he/you said "metal legs" so my thought is they are just metallic boots
A quick counter to the whole idea that senses get amped up when you lose one of them. That is not actually true. All that happens is people practice and adapt to using their remaining senses more, and thus hone in on those sense making it look as if they have super hearing or super sight.
Actually something called plasticity in the brain normally takes place when a region isn't in use, and the same goes for people who lose a sense, their body (and brain) adapt and cover the loss creating a more heightened version of their existing senses. So albeit yes they aren't super human and do take time to *develop* it, the body actually DOES compensate.
Andre D. I've been told that this isn't true in the case of the senses. You don't suddenly become a supertaster because you can't see, for example. I recognize that plasticity might be more possible for some sense losses than others (I don't imagine a loss of taste or smell heightening the other) if it does exist.
***** Its chocolate cause its the same color as the cross right? But yeah OP's arguement is that your sense don't get better cause you have to adapt and practice and THAT is what makes it appear to be better. Correct? How do you get better at anything? By practicing and adapting.
An interesting theory all over though you seem to have missed a rather interesting point when it comes to Star Fox. You mansion how evolution into our current stage caused humanity to develop feet that allowed for upright walking. Well I would assume because of convergent evolution that the anthropomorphic animals seen in the series that evolved opposable thumbs would also evolve feet that would naturally allow them to walk upright. I'm not saying your theory is wrong, I'm just pointing out something you never addressed in the video. I don't know if there are cutscenes, comics or other articals that states otherwise in the Star Fox canon. Wound't it be more likely that they are indeed for out of ship combat but possible also double as an advanced form of the G suit? This is a rough theory that just came to mind while watching the episode but it's conceivable that these prosthetic regulate the flow of blood throughout their length like the original legs so the brain won't compensate for the missing appendages and lesson the pressure. However in times of need the artificial veins and arteries within he prosthetic tighten up to provide higher pressure within the rest of the system to combat the G effects
Moshi Minecraft8 Why would you come to the PAST, to ask something that will happen in the FUTURE. It's like the Internet Explorer jokes, they make no sense at all.
Dark Hinata OBJECTION! I come from 2022 and there IS no FNAF Fighters! I am still waiting for FNAF 302 though. Man! I still remember FNAF 246, that was an amazing game!
Hououin Kyouma Maybe he came from a future that had a FNAF fighters game and it killed the franchise. I am from the past and am curious if they have made 5 nights as Faustus yet?
I think the metal legs are usefull for flying too. Yes, the distace the blood takes to the brain is the same, but when the Gz effects the blood, it wouldn't go that far in to the feat as it normally would. Yes, there is less blood to speak about, but if we take out, let's say 30% of all blood but shorten the dead end by 60% we get closer to the heart and the brain.
Gábor Mervó That's what I'm wondering too. There's less pressure but still, even though it's less blood it's still less space to travel down and back up again
Gábor Mervó +1, this episode didn't strike me as particularly intelligent in trying to "blow our minds" with crazy science... I mean, it's like he completely forgot about those special tight pants he mentioned earlier in the video! To put it another way, think of the legs as a useless balloon, blood goes in blood goes out (you can't explain that) but during high Gz they inflate due to the pressure. If you make the balloons smaller so they can't hold as large a % of your total bloodsupply (and also doesn't move it as far away when it does), then there's less work needed to get the blood back up to your brain. Running fast, that's a bonus. Need different legs to stand? Did he not notice the opposable thumbs? I think a little willing suspension of disbelief is called for in this situation!
Think you know why Star Fox has no legs? Think again!

Okay with all the science I've now absorbed from this video, I have some proposals to make flying SUPER efficient
-If your blood pulled away due to those Gz, fill your body with so much blood that it can't move
-if blacking out is due to the distance between your heart and head, amputate your neck to shorten the distance
-If your blood keeps rushing to your legs, put tiny springs in your body to push it back up
There you go, work some magic on that Government!
I cant think of anything wrong with your suggestions. XD

Oh cool!!!
It was confirmed in an interview with one of the creators of the original that Star Fox's supposed artificial legs are really just metal boots.

Chris Biebel Basically, ( if i remember correctly ) Miyamoto said that it was just metal boots and the fact that it looked like metal legs was just a design choice.
I did a research paper on Douglas Bader in college. Dude was a total badass.
Call Me Nefret I know someone in my class that has the last name Bader 😫😫

[Correct theory at the end of the video] "... Nah, that couldn't be it."
I remember reading an interview with Miyamoto (or a similar high up at Nintendo) who said the only reason they had metal legs originally is because they didn't think the feet of the puppets would be photo'd, so they just built something that would support the top half of the body. He even pointed to Starfox adventures as an example of fox not having metal legs as he's wearing boots instead.
metal prostetics still sound more awesome tho
It's kind of weird that he just referred to the Star Fox 1 character images as "artwork". He never even seemed to realize they were photos of actual puppets.

That’s like saying “My team is name is Star Fox.”
But when you take out the apostrophe it becomes
“My teams name is Star Fox.”
Ya see what I’m saying?
ARealyWitty Pun shut up grammar nazi
ARealyWitty Pun - Sorry, but you're the wrong one. That applies to "its" and "it's" but not to most nouns. The apostrophe is used for both possession and contractions. "Its/it's" is an exception. I don't know why; perhaps because "it" is a pronoun, and using "its" for the possessive form keeps it in line with "his" and "her". But that's just a theory - a grammar theory. ;)
ScrapzMask ayyyyy
Yes clearly a fox in space fan
So, one day they had to get Krystal and hold her down as Peppy got the hatchet.
crazyinsane500 Then clearly she would no longer be interested in fox and I can...
Jamal Davis Krystal-senpai will never notice you.
Imma be a party pooper and say that since Starfox Adventure they retconned the whole robot legs as you can clearly see in the designs for the following games since adventure.
MrLCGO You don't know that. They could simply have more realistic robot legs.
Jamal Davis they said in an interview, because they felt it was too dark. If you look at the designs, Fox wears bulky boots and Krystal uses more tight boots but they're still following the form of her legs. You can find the info easily in google, even in Dykgaming about Starfox.
That Oscar Pistorius sounds really cool I hope he doesn’t kill anyone

I thought it was kinda weird how fast Fox could run in Star Fox Assault. But the whole not being able to balance on their normal animal feet is disproven with Krystal. In Adventures..you see her wearing sandals. Her feet are kinda humanlike, but still look like paws. She walks and runs normal in that game.
And krystal still have legs
Ruby Holliday exactly! I’m suprised Mat Pat didn’t touch on her *no furry pun intended 😂 *
We never amputated our feet in the first place bud...
+Matthew Geiberras So is that why there was a fat guy in the red squadron in star wars?
wow that was 3 years ago?
i remember seeing that in my sub box...

I always thought they were boots, until I saw the old version of the game.

Also the legs could be a plugin interface allowing fox to go from tank to aerotech to anything and the machines onboard AI will automatically know what fox wants allowing him to pilot anything with great skill.
Did...did you call Fox McCloud "Star Fox" the entire episode, or am I just missing something? I thought Star Fox was the team.
He's referring to the whole team, because the whole team as robotic legs.

Finally....
Daniel Reilly Still a crap ton of furries, though. That won't change in a LONG time.
Don't jinx it because sooner or later they will be asking for the Five Nights at Freddy's 4 theory once the game releases.
But what if they still request him to do a theory for FNAF 4 even though it hasn't been released? It will happen, I know it for sure.

Yeah, but MatPat usually discounts the use of “fantasy tech” so the fact that he never brought it up is slightly understandable
In star fox assault ALL the characters have real legs! And I also like how you never mentioned that game either.
Aawww that game was cool :(
+Zesto Star Fox Assault takes place after the original and n64 versions.
Chris Hayes We dont speak of that game.
You should do a game theory on Phoenix Wright sometime.
HOLD IT! What would it be about?
TitoKeytarHero OBJECTION! Maybe...uh... *(come on Phoenix, think)*... Damnit, the games have too great of logic.
TAKE THAT! It should probably be a theory on Pheonix's or the real details on Maya's mother.
Ethan Tran What do you mean real details on Maya's mother?
It should be on what the legal system would be like if we had one like Ace Attorney
PokeYankeefan Also, we see krystal, a fox assumably, walking on two feet, while clearly having her natural, biological, and non-amputated legs.
PokeYankeefan Game logic
PokeYankeefan You can make the "ignorant game developer" argument for almost any of the Game Theory videos. I think that argument kinda defeats the whole purpose of the videos.
Yeah, that makes sense. Like metal feet could have very well have been a design choice only because it looks badass
PokeYankeefan Yeah, I was thinking that the whole time. Its kinda dumb he's ignoring things that disprove his theory outright, especially when its visible in canon material at a glance.
I used to be an adventurer like you, til I took an arrow to the knee and had to get an amputate my legs
Until
3:40
I though the title was why Starfox has no legos
LEL
Cesar Hernandez I was excited from the teaser b coz of clooney and brad bird but after this trailer it's surely a let down.
They lost that 2x4 block for the engine. oh shit
Your comment made my day xD
👍
Or ya'know....they have metal boots.....
I know right. They look like boots. What is the evidence of amputation?
But... It's just a theory...
josh northup in the smash bros melee trophy despcription it says they were amputated
Jonathan Pepper Have you ever seen the legs of quadrupeds? That's not even close to being able to fit inside boots of those shapes.
SlugFunk The Melee trophies aren't canon.
Goat Simulator theory next.
tsgambetty Yeah. Why does its head spin like mad when you touch a wall? I'd like that explained.
tsgambetty I would like MatPat to explain why that shitty game is so popular.
Ethan Puckett ikr the game is only fun for about 5 mins then it gets boring. the glitches/bugs are intentional
Default Can a goat really do that?
I don't know they say in the comics their just boots they showed the character take them off and show their bare feet
More likely metal boots
thats exactly what i thought
It has been confirmed by the creators.
*they're
*they're
ok, so the Star Fox team amputated their legs to allow them to walk on two legs and use their other limbs as hands.
then, what about Krystal? clearly no robo-legs in Stairfax Temperatures, and she is a master of hand-to-hand and melee weapon combat. or General Pepper? Star Wolf? any of the other members of Star Fox added in SF Command? Andross, to an extent? General Scales?
also, I think Death Battle stated that Star Fox's Arwings had built-in G Diffusers, which could mean they help lessen the G Forces on the pilots.
One like for JonTron Reference.
13:10 fezzes, fezzes everywhere
Ha 😊
Fezzes are cool
Is this the first Game Theory video that used that Matpat PNG?
Hey Matpat, I know you probably won't see this, but I think that your Theme would make an AWESOME ringtone!! I don't know if anyone else here thinks the same way about it, but I would certainly buy it and I know a lot of other friends of mine that would TOTALLY love to buy it too. Just a request but I love it and I think others would too.
Like or comment if you agree so we can get supporters!!!💪👍👊
Or you could just rip the video to an mp3, cut the audio track to just the intro, save it as a song, send it to your iTunes, and set it as a ringtone....that's what I did for JonTron's theme:P
😆Haha omg I would except I don't think I have the software for that. Awesome idea though!
Wow thanks!
Thanks everyone for the sources, but I don't know how to use any of these, anything else in mind?
Why is no one talking about the G-Diffuser systems, the fictional devices in the Arwings that counteracts high G forces making all of that unnecessary? Seriously. All of the whole blood pressure argument is for naught because Arwing pilots don't have to worry about G forces.
What are you talking about?
Josh Lucas The blue things on the wings are the Gravity Diffusion/G-Diffuser system. That's the part that fires laser and generates the force field that protects the pilot from enemy fire and the stresses of high speed aerobatics. (Official Nintendo Power Player's Guide) It's called the G-diffuser anti-force generator in the game’s manual. Google it.
Jerade Hensley than yeah its a moot point.
Jerade Hensley well that would actually support the point that this video comes up with that the amputated legs have nothing to do with the G forces and have to do with standing up on two legs and running faster and being able to better able to handle the foot controls while in the plane
robert gosney Yeah that's what he said.
That's just a theory.
A GAME THEORY!

And I can't help but feel the exact same anger whenever he brings up that game in all his videos that have nothing to do with that game!
I don't watch your fnaf videos. Thank you for finally doing something different. And it's Star Fox! Couldn't have picked a better topic! ^_^
Lyndan I hate the games but like the videos because of how much work he puts into them.
TheLegless101 brush
Lyndan Same here man, It feels like haven't watched a game theory in forever
Agree totally.
But...do g-forces work in space?
TheLifeMeaningof Well they also fly on diffrent planets and those planets could have a greater gravity then where ever they come from
They do, after all acceleration is still a thing in space.
Nick Trotsky The G-Diffuser negates all gravity, whether in space or planetside.
Finally a game theory that is about a real game. Not FNAF or puppet gamers.
Red Key FNAF is a real game. Just because you don't like it does not mean its not a game.
yosheth lol if Fnaf is a realgame dose the order 1886 fit in to the name game too?

More fnaf theories incoming :(
Red Key It's fine if you don't like FNAF but it's still a series of real games.

Nytrofoxx ! Wow you are now a weirdo
CreeperOnYourHouse My thought precisely!
(Unique)

Havent you thought that they might just be boots.
Mike Schmidt IMPOSSIBLE!!!! WHY WOULD YOU EVEN THINK THIS???
Because erm they don't look like bionic legs
Mike Schmidt The legs look as if they overlap the pants, so it could just be boots.
I was being sarcastic before but no the metal part doesn't really overlap the pants and the ankle joint is too small to be flesh and bone so it's definitely automail.
i know
Death Battle explained why Fox has no legs in less than 30 seconds.
But you bring up some interesting stuff
SkudKapp'd Productions And MatPat delivered a different explanation.

And the fact that he can move on any planet with different gravity without issues?
gravity or magnetic boots I say!
Maybe the legs act like Chell's leg brace things, allowing Fox to bail out of his plane and land safely on the ground without use of a parachute?

***** I bet you haven't even read it
***** random unfunny pop culture? Let's take a look at this plotline. I don't know why, but random things introduced in early acts coming together in unexpected ways to produce something amazing is beautiful to me. (act 3-5 spoilers below):
Jade and her dream self are introduced in act 3.
Love how you added Van Halen in the beginning
also if you sit in an airplane for too long your legs will fall asleep
i do not think it would be possible for fox McCloud to jump off of his plane and run away after flying so long
Yeah but if you sit on the bog for too long your legs fall asleep and when you try to get up you break your arm I mean nothing...
link you mean to tell me that they invented near-infinite amounts of power to power spaceships, but not special chairs that absorb and properly cushion your body?
Androvsky budget cuts
Aren't they also in space a lot? You need gravity for your legs to fall asleep.
Catherine Rathbone i just said that -.-
Everyone chant with me, FNAF IS GONE, FNAF IS GONE!
Harry Mcleod Brace Yourself, FNAF 4 beggars are comming
SKsuprakirby Our chanting can stop them! We can do it!
nah you can stop the fandom we got until halloween for FNAF4 😈 us fans hear to stay lmao
svdd sosa Lord help us :(
Harry Mcleod FNAF is here while Silent Hill franchise is nothing more then a corpse.
That ain't Falco!

HAHAHAHAHAHA, fezzes keep you out of court, Oscar still ended in one
Do a stanley parable theory plz
Everyone would die and MatPat's brain would explode.
The Potato King ... yes, in ONE of the video's endings. What about in all the other endings?
〈-thatguyoverthere I hope he does the broom closet ending. That one's my favorite.
Jason did the narrarator tell you to say that?
steee zaragoza Sound good!
You are awesome.I hope you can keep making more theories and more videos.I hope you are having a great day,and stay awesome.
It's just an interesting theory man, it doesn't mean that's what the creators had in mind.
I know it is a theory but did you know my post was just a joke?
Joshua Baker Not a very clear joke.
MatPat doesn't theorize that Star Fox characters have metal legs, he takes the assumption they have metal legs and finds out why they might have them
if anything this video debunks the idea that they might have metal legs, since he says they have no purpose against G-Force, and are only good for running, which wasn't even possible in the first game
...he mentions explicitly that, in the first game, on a certain planet, in multiplayer, you take to the land.
kurintehgamer Star Fox SNES was the first game, Star Fox 64 came later
and Star Fox had no multiplayer, and was only space travel, so there was no need for them having metal legs in the original game
and they've had roughly the same design since the first game, so it's not something they added for the N64 version either
Well MatPat, I guess your little Theory about me didn't work, You Can't Fool Me!!
Omg fox!!!!!!!!! 😀
And you can't fool me ha
Fox, do a barrel roll!
WHY IS THERE A CLONE AGAIN?!?! HOW MANY CLONES ARE THERE OF ME?!
I didn't know Oscar Pistorius had no legs. I only knew of him for playing hide and seeks with a gun.
no that's Oscar Pistolorius
Oooooooor they are just metallic boots and they look different throughout the years and evolved to actually look like boots -shrugs- it's just a though -_- I mean to be honest I believe they are just boots just back then we didn't have the high text we have now so it would look tacky or like what he/you said "metal legs" so my thought is they are just metallic boots
NO,he was amputated.
14:04 :)
what about falco?
Why a bird like falco uses boots with the form of a human feet???
Okay, Dexuz, I understand your question, but if a fox, a bird, and some other animals can speak the same language, FALCO CAN HAVE HUMAN FEET!
StyxTBuferd "I've been told that this isn't true", I've been told that a rabbit hands out chocolate eggs on the day Jesus came back from the dead.
***** Its chocolate cause its the same color as the cross right?
But yeah OP's arguement is that your sense don't get better cause you have to adapt and practice and THAT is what makes it appear to be better. Correct? How do you get better at anything? By practicing and adapting.
***** What I should of said is that I was told this by multiple professors.
me every couple years seeing this video: "Oh, its you again"
So...you made this video to show off that you'd gotten to fly in stunt planes?
Do you need me to get the peanut butter and bread because you are JELLY
Andrew McCue he jelly
JELLY!
jesus fucking christ you're all so unoriginal
Lindsay Braun I jelly too
Idk if Metteaton would be horrified or slightly turned on .___.
They are confirmed to be robo legs
Plus in the game you really fast to the warp points on Meteo, but the true question is How fast is the Arwing?
* Cuts off Falco, a bird's leg *
Matpat: Maybe you can get *chicken wings*
Hi matpat I'm from the future
Why haven't you uploaded your fnaf 69 theory yet?
Lel
Moshi Minecraft8 Why would you come to the PAST, to ask something that will happen in the FUTURE.
It's like the Internet Explorer jokes, they make no sense at all.
Moshi Minecraft8 You live in a time when there's more than 60 FNAF sequels?
Wow!! You must be from February 2016!!!
That made no sense. Shorten the dead?
Gábor Mervó That's what I'm wondering too. There's less pressure but still, even though it's less blood it's still less space to travel down and back up again
Proto Man Shorten the dead end. He means, the extremity of the body. It would no longer be their feet, but the place where the legs were amputated.
I think a little willing suspension of disbelief is called for in this situation!
but what if the blood doesnt need to go into the balloon?
"DO FNAF4!!!!DO FNAF4!!!!DO FNAF4!!!!DO FNAF4!!!!"
-absolutely fucking everyone in 5 fucking months
PhantomSpectre He's not. He's predicting what ll most likely happen.
I hope he doesn't. He keeps on saying that the only impossible candidate to be the killer (phone guy) IS the killer for some reason.
Shadow Quill It was me all along lol.
Matpat doing the comms task in game theory
Or those "metal legs" are boots...
Why not?
JBrandão no, its clearly metal legs in the nintendo power comic, and his early games.
Look at the legs here at 3:04 DO THOSE LOOK LIKE BOOTS?!?!?!
Regan Vaughan No, smash bros changed it to metal boots. Literally a second after that it shows an older version of starfox with metal legs.
The people who made the game themselves say they're metal and metal boots have no point
