Man thanks so much!! Honestly y'all and everyone who reads this comment section listen to her. I am not even lying I joined Wattpad on 6th Aug 2021, with 0 reads and 0 followers, right now my 10 chaps book has 3K views I have over 300 followers and some of the comments have been left by ambassadors and stars. It makes me soft thanks a lot Caitlin and sorry for the long ass message.
For the second point I'd like to point out that not all readers are the kind to stick to a particular genre an author writes. If I'm reading a teen fictions story I REALLY liked by the author, and if I see a horror book from the same author, I get really excited cause I love reading/watching authors experiment with different genres and still add their own quirk to that genre. Lol I hope it makes sense. While I can also understand why most readers would stick to an author if the author writes books of same genre, personally I love it when there's diversity in an author's work. Like when your switched from teen romance to horror comedy in HTSYSFSSD, I literally gasped, I was so excited.
OMG those last two sentences seriously made my day, thank you!! 😭 But yes I totally get what you're saying! Thankfully for people who do want to write in multiple genres there are a lot of open-minded readers out there, especially if they're a big fan of the author's writing. Like I know if Nora Roberts tried a different genre I would be first in line at the store to buy it LOL 🤡
This is a tip for fanfic writers on Wattpad. I write fanfics but my main fandom usually changes(Due to me having a hyperfixation on things) so it's hard to keep an audience. My first work was based on one fandom but I lost interested in it so I stopped working and discontinued it. The work had gotten big and my main demographic was that fandom. I think this goes with the idea of sticking with a genre. Stick to one fandom for your account to grow. I guess if you're writing fanfiction. I just started writing another work with the same fandom and it's going well. Just stick to one fandom, and it can help your account!
I am writing a romantic story, but it is turning into political fiction with a love twist, and because I wanted to make a secondary character more rounded, he ended up more complex than the main character, but I liked him, so I changed the course of the story just for him. This is why I love writing,
adding onto this, I only noticed a small growth in my audience the more I published. my fanfic currently has 22 parts if I remember with almost 3k words. but in my other fanfic that has two parts has 100-ish readers. this made me realize readers go for longer stories most of the time.
The romance genre is pretty cool in my opinion. Considering the main emotion is love, many stories can be written. Love is unpredictable and different for everyone, so it can take form of many stories
It's not that I'm fearful, it's that no one replies back. And I never stick with one genre it's just so hard to! Most of my stories are unfinished and I have about 32. And when I focus on the numbers I just feel depressed..it's hard not to.
Gosh I feel the same way. I guess I’m just impatient since it’s been 8 hours since I posted my story, but I do hope someone reaches out with a compliment or leaves a vote.
You just gave me a great writing prompt for my next writing warmup exercise. A rando walks up to the protagonist and gives him/her/them a manuscript without saying anything or giving an explanation. ❤
I just started writing my book 'escape' on Wattpad and published it thank you so much for the tips you really inspire me. I am dreaming of many people reading my book. I have always wanted to be an author but never had the confidence to post. But now that I did I am so happy. I feel amazing.
Thank you so much for this! I just posted chapter 1 of my story. Like you said in the video I’m gonna stick to a schedule and engage with other writers. These tips were super helpful keep up the good work!
Actually can you cover a video explaining algorithms and how to reach small milestones like 50K if you aren't getting featured by wattpad on their front page because I honestly want to understand how the growth of reads system works over time.
Thank you so much for the request, I will record this asap! 😄 There's a lot that I don't know about the algorithm, but I can already think of a few tips that I know help for sure 😁💙
It was helpful. I think patience is the main thing. I started to write a few months ago & now I'm here. How impatient I am!! From now on I'll try to focus on my story, not on my account.
Great advice. I get so caught up in the follower count I twist myself in knots and then I pull my my head in and look at the reader view counts which is much more important and calming. I actually don't like the follower count on any social platform. I would rather have a button that hides the follower count on wattpad, but that's just me and my scrambled anxiety head.
Is it better to have many unfinished stories updated inconsistently, but with updates always happening in at least one story? Like, im always updating, but not always in the same story.
If you have been writing Teen Romance for 4 years, chances are a lot of your audience has grown and matured. I would advise you to follow your heart and branch into contemporary romance. In music, you see pop artists mature and take on more adult themes as they age, retaining a large majority of their core audience. You'll be fine.
Oh! and if you don't mind, will it be possible for you to make a video with you reading like, the first 4 chapters of our book and giving little advice of how to better it?
I like this idea! Maybe tho 4 chapters might be too long for a UA-cam video. Maybe... just the first chapter since it's also the first one that readers read, so she can guide us if the chapter is too bland, or if its better to change it to get more readers. Not sure if I explained my self well, sorry lol
Someone else has requested a video like this as well! Since you guys want it I will probably try it, and if it works out it could be like sort of a series within Wattpad Wednesday vids 😛 I just have to set up a way for you guys to send me your stories :3 (but I might wait until December to film it, since preptober/nanowrimo are usually pretty busy for me! 🧡) thank you for the request!!
Like in wattpad I found a lot of stories with too much advanced writing, like they use complex and uncommon words that's a bit hard to get and compared to them my writing is quite simple. Does it affect the views of your stories if you write in simple words? Just a bit curious to know.
"I really enjoy it when you mention self-promotion because the way you say "rude" is so endearing. I'm not trying to act foolish or anything, but I completely understand your point about posting links to your own work on other people's posts being inappropriate. I don't think it's supportive to share your own work on someone else's post without permission. It's different if someone explicitly invites you to share your own work, but otherwise, it's just impolite."
