Very useful video thanks. As the fan is mounted around half way down the housing, to make installation slightly easier you could actually remove the front lip, which is only there to increase static thrust efficiency when used as the leading edge of a jet intake.
EDF Ducted Fan JP Hobby 80mm + 6s Motor 2200Kv (CCW would this be the correct fan for the freewing or fms avanti 80mm please sir ccw or clock wise not sure whart that means direction of rotation
Thanks for doing this video. It would be good to do some tests between the different fan setups available and compare performance and thrust directly. 👍🏻
wmp59 That would be nice, but man, that combo costs more than the entire plane, lol. The stock FMS 12 blade is really nice, but it should be reinforced (I fiberglassed the housing on mine).
Hi Rich, did you have the CC/CCW version installed in that Messershmett? Do you know if there is a torque issue if they are not counter rotating. I haven't found much as to the real deal on any forums. I'm putting together an LX A-10 and I'm very interested in those units (cc/ccw never in stock tho). They sound awesome, even thru a computer.
Mine are counter rotating but they do not need to be... having them spin in opposite directions only applies to propeller driven aircraft. Jets and fans can spin in the same direction and it will not cause a turning tendency...
Pure freaking awesomeness. So glad you chose the FREEWING ME262 . Great job . Was their more draw on mah , or is it more efficient? Wuts recommended on size Lipo and flight time
Do you have any ESC's that are known to work well with this motor in a single motor config? I'm looking at putting a JP 2250kv 70mm in a freewing 70mm f-16 and noticed that the Hobbywing Skywalked esc's are only rated for 35000 rpm with a 12 pole motor, these JP EDFS should see about 50000 RPM. It would be great if I could get away with one HW Skywalked 100a ESC but want to make sure before I buy
RC REVIEWER Good Question! No... Not at all! In fact, I think that many, including the manufacturers, do not realize that counter rotating really only applies to Propeller driven aircraft. With a twin engine propeller plane, the turning tendency is relatively small, in a twin JET and/or twin EDF, the turning tendency is essentially zero... counter-rotation only really becomes relevant in the event of an engine failure situation in a propeller driven airplane.... with an twin electric EDF with both fans spinning the same direction, there is usually little torque effect and zero aerodynamic turning tendency. So if you have an EDF twin you CAN put in 2 fans that spin the same direction.
RC REVIEWER I used to teach Multi-Engine aerodynamics & I was a flight instructor in light twins... this is all the stuff I once instructed in the classroom and in the plane:)
Rich I would have thought the top speed would have been faster with the Jp units, I put the HK Dr. Mad 70mm 6S edf units in my me262 that sell for $57.00 each and I get 102mph with it. Hmmm
RC REVIEWER We will do a few more runs with it... Pete was filming and doing the radar at the same time... also he was at quite an angle to the flight path when he hit the button, we need a more head on pass... we clocked the stock plane at 100 and with the JP fans it is much faster than stock...
I did my Mach run using a 6S 8000mah lipo and without the battery cover on it so my GPS could pickup the satellite which caused a lot of drag and got 102mph, if I had ran it with a lighter LiPo and had the battery hatch cover on it theres no telling what type of speed I would have gotten, I really like the JP units the quality is awesome but there pricy for the average person, I have 2 of the 2700kv 70mm 6S units that JP use to offer that I plan on putting in my me262 to see what the difference would be vs. the low price but great Dr. Mad series, which is actually made by RC Lander.
Could be the timing-JP usually tell you in their Specs what the optimum timing is and even go as far as recommending the use of their own ESC for warranty reasons. You could try them on “medium” timing (the ESC’s) as thats around 15° with the predator 120a ESC (same as the recommendation by JP for the EDF) and see if this helps🙂
I always thought a full metal edf was illegal to use in the UK is this true ?? you can have a metal housing or a metal fan blade but not both ..also didn't the AMA ban them too ? maybe the law has changed as this was a while ago .
RC REVIEWER I wonder... that may have been way to much draw.. I think they still make it in2700 for a single engine application, the TWIN engine fan package is 2200.. you can just buy 2 of the 2700s and use it in a twin... they do not need to be counter-rotating:)
Yep, I have 2 - of the 2700kv units that I will be putting in mine soon to see the difference in speed compared to the Dr. Mad units I'm currently using.
Hi Rich, Did you have to change the servo's or are they still stock ? With that speed increase was wondering if different servo are needed to handle turns. Am looking for a part of high speed EDF units for my Dynam ME-262, bought a pair but there not putting out as advertise. Looking at this company these maybe a alternative to the JP at half the cost. Will have to buy one and bench test to see. There's link www.tppowerusa.com/index.php?route=common/home like to know what you think about there spec. The first upgraded 6s power planet from 4s turn into a crash and burn maiden. Have replacement plane just looking for a different power planet. Here's video link ua-cam.com/video/xuKVvfYAkyk/v-deo.html

super cool, just take care when working with these monster little parts
i cant belive the power and the lovely models
Thanks for watching Dg!

Good to know. Opens up a lot of options! Thanks so much!!
Thanks for doing this video. It would be good to do some tests between the different fan setups available and compare performance and thrust directly. 👍🏻
Impressive. I'll have this in mind when I need to purchase an EDF.
Would like to see the 70mm engine in the FMS 70 mm Super Viper. What do you think?
wmp59 Yes, that would be sweet in the NEW FMS Super Scorpion...
wmp59 That would be nice, but man, that combo costs more than the entire plane, lol. The stock FMS 12 blade is really nice, but it should be reinforced (I fiberglassed the housing on mine).
wmp59 It would be nice to make the super scorpion 6s. Easier launches, too.
wmp59 I putted the 4S version at the FMS super scorpion. The speed is amazing fast. I don't think it can handle JP 6S super version.
Star Trek Hailing sound at the 8:03 mark. Nice.
I want to put one of these in a 70mm scorpion and see how it goes. The stock fan seems pretty good, but I really like these fans.
3000gtwelder The stock FMS fan is very good...
Was their more draw on mah , or is it more efficient? Awesome video ,I'm so glad you chose the me262 .
RCcruz I actually have not run it on a watt meter yet... i need to check the draw...
RCINFORMER ok, il be tuned on results when you check😁

Can these fans take an inrunner motor?
Hey no mean to nag, the BF-109 video you took of me at Joe Nall. Do you have it still?
Look forward to seeing that video you took of me at Joe Nall
Rich
Is a normal and counter rotating really needed in a twin using Edfs?

Hey Rich, do you know if the JP 70mm will drop into a 75 mm viper jet or would it be to small or not fit properly?
I would guess that it would be to small
Thanks for the input.
Damn...I wonder if it's worth checking then stock fans for 'looseness' before maidening :/
Martin Alberter Yea... it happens
Rich

I recently purchased 2 JP 70mm fans with 2 predator 120A ESC but they seem to get really hot quick, any tips on what I might be doing wrong?

You can't use metal propellers... fans are different, turbines have metal blades:ĺ
RCINFORMER thanks .
+RCINFORMER It's not a turbine.
+Lee Wood correct... i do not think the AMA has addressed it, is does address metal propellers but no mention of fan rotors that i know of.
Not sure about your countries rules, but in Australia I'm pretty sure we can't use metal bladed fans. If that's what they are.
Did you find out for sure on that,,?
Precio de las turbinas..... Lo necesito..... Su respuesta por favor...
Very very nice
The fans are really expensive though...
Sir I want 2 edf fan units please tell me how much money
Baba Baba check them out at Falconhobbysupply.com
RCINFORME
Okay sir
These units we can not buy online
Baba Baba Falconhobbysupply.com

Thanks sir
I wish JP still made these with the 2700kv motor, those have a lot more power than the 2200kv ones they now have.

RC REVIEWER U will want some mighty ESCs in there:)
I've been flying them in some smaller jets using castle lite 100amps which is perfect.
I use Castle esc's in all my planes.
wow it happening

All stock servos. speed was slightly faster.. we clocked it at about 100mph
