I just got the Abu Garcia 7’ foot major league fishing combo today and I spoiled it with 15 pound test spider wire braid and I can’t wait to use it. I’m excited.
Exactly. I haven’t had any issues with Abu Garcia reels but I’ve had a few rods break. But honestly when they break you wonder if it was anything due to shipping, or the butt heads at the store sacking each other with them. Or some ladies husband swatting her on the butt with it in the store. I’m guilty of the last one several times.
@@greatamericansurvival yes mainly bass in ponds and rivers and sometimes lakes too. i plan on getting a kayak soon but as of right now i fish off the bank and out of a jon boat. i will let you know how it works!
@@greatamericansurvival i have taken this combo fishing quite a bit lately and caught multiple bass on it and the rod and reel have both held up great so far even pulling 2 pounders up a 8-10ft tall bluff. i am glad i picked up this combo
@@greatamericansurvival and i also switched from 12lb fluorocarbon to 12lb monofilament and have threw many different baits from worms to spinner baits and too water baits as well.
I'm going to buy a new rod and reel combo today. Been fishing for a year, just got my first set up for Christmas. Debating between this, the max stx, and a 7' medium pfleuger president combo. Thanks for the video, it's helpful!
Look up lews smash rod and reel combo I think it’s a better fishing combo then the Abu Garcia Rod and reel combo I’ve had two of the abu rod and reel combos and they have both snapped on me while fishing and the lews rod is pretty much in the same price range and it feels a bit nicer then the abu rods
@@royalgin7769 I'll look in to it for my next one, I did end up getting the MaxSTX when I originally commented and I've been liking it. Although the fish around me don't seem to like what I'm tying on to it, haha. They just want my 1/4oz super spots and baby ring fry.
I want to get started in fishing. I bought a Lew's Mach 1 spinning combo. I'm also considering a baitcaster. Abu Garcia seems to be a leading brand and is readily available at a good price.
Abu makes great combos, I’ve been comparing my Jordan Lee and my MaxPro and they are two very nice combos. Only Abu I didn’t like was the Ultramax. But for the money Abu combos are awesome..
Baitcasters are a pain to learn due to backlash but you'll like them once you get a hang of it. My older black max doesn't re-engage gears when I turn handle anymore so I have to manual re-engage with my thumb. Did still pull up a massive trophy pike with no issues though :)
Thanks. I work on cars everyday. Sometimes my hands won’t come clean for a couple days after some things. Thanks for noticing. Glad to know people watch that closely I honestly mean that. Cheers
I just bought a Abu Garcia black max bait caster reel it's semaler to yours my abu Garcia reel has a red handle and red knobs in it and wer the brakes knob is it's not red it's all black
Anyone on here use this around bank or pond hoping I’m bout to get a back pack tackle because where I live now a lot of places are small and spread out and I don’t have a boat yet so I want something that won’t break the bank because I live where winter can be hard so fishing isn’t normal during those months so I don’t want go crazy on money till I get the boat
I do a lot of bank fishing. I like this combo for that, but I’d rather have a shorter rod. 6’8 or 6’9 makes casting around trees easier for me. If your fishing ponds and lakes with a lot of trees is gonna be amazing. But there are a lot of great 2 piece rods perfect for backpacking. Honestly most of my packables are spinning setups.
do you think that the stx is worth the extra $20? i checked the website and both rods are 24 ton so i'm guessing they are the same but painted different. other than an extra bearing and a flipping switch i dont see the difference.
Dick's sporting goods has the 7 ft one piece medium heavy Max x for $79, it reminds me of my black max but the rod is different,(cherry wood) My Black Max is a much stiffer rod, I just don't like the rod guides, they're rough on the line being stainless with no coating, that's the only thing I wish they had done was put better rod guides on my pole, I love the action of the rod and the reel, I'm looking to step up but it doesn't look like I'm stepping up if I go for the Max X ...I'm stepping sideways maybe backwards on the pole I don't know? I was looking at the Shimano Caius for $20 more, same kind of graphite plastic reel body but he even nicer rod than the cherry wood? I don't know if going to the Caius is that big of a step up either? I did get to palm a Shimano SLX baitcast reel and they're very nice that might be the next upgrade but I still want a nicer rod with better rod guides but with the same action as Abu Garcia Black Max rod any suggestions would be greatly appreciated thank you for the great review. Aloha from the Great Lakes West Michigan 😎🤙💯
@@greatamericansurvival well it’s a great combo just besides that one problem it only happened that one time haven’t happened again yet in fact I’m about to go use it rn
Turn the magnetic setting to five which is halfway between minimum and Max and then on the spool drag knob adjust that to where there's no side to side play in the spool and you should be about there and then as you get better and better with casting with your thumb hitting your spool right before it hits the water feathering it you'll be able to back off on the spool tension a little more and maybe even on the magnetics more and you'll be able to cast that sucker pretty far I'm at that place right now in my casting and that's after using the Abu Garcia Black Max for about 3 months now it's my first baitcaster and I can chuck a half ounce bait almost 150 ft that's pretty good, good luck and keep on fishing

Good job on the review but I don't see anything different between the black max and the max x 🤔
Honestly I think the Blackmax was a better reel but it’s heavier.

The Caius is a great combo. I agree the SLX is a great reel I have two and they have been amazing.
Curious to see how it holds up.
It'll be exactly as durable as the black max. Every part that has anything to do with reliability is the same.
Abu always holds up.
just got mine first ever baitcaster and a whole lot of birds nest, i still have some learning to do
Just always stop it beofre it hits the water or ground and always adjust ur spool tension when u change lures and NEVER over head cast
