i JUST BOUGHT this combo at wal-mart and spent 3 FREAKING HOURS you-tubeing to figure out HOW THE HECK to open that side plate (4;00) and YOU ARE THE BEST. Thank you.
MY MAN. I just hit the SUB button because "YOU ARE THE BEST REVIEWER" I have ever watched... BUT, the down side is (for me) I'm going to be buying more fishing gear than I need just because you sell a GREAT REVIEW.
It’s a moderate action or moderate fast action I’d say . Medium heavy would describe the strength of the rod . Like 7’2 MH moderate action would be how you describe it. Good video tho !
Great budget rod and reel combo especially for kids just getting started and who may break the rod and reel or drop it in the water anyway😂 That way you’re not out too much money
Bait keeper on top of rod is great UNTIL a gust of wind wraps a little slack line around that little loop. I promise the next cast won't do well!! Mashed mine down and wrapped some electrician tape on it . OK now.
Hey man like the video told me everything I wanted to know and more I've never used a baitcaster do u think I would be a good starter baitcaster and would it work good for a weighted Texas rig?
Yes this is a great beginner baitcaster, make sure to get the tension knob dialed correctly to avoid birds nesting, but it is a good solid combo. Also this works well with a Texas rig, that’s what I probably throw on it the most.
I'm thinking of getting one of these it says 15-45g for lures? Would it make much difference using lighter bait like a small spinner as theres a few different spots I would like to try but don't want a rod for big baits if that makes sense I'm new to fishing so could do with the help haha
Mike, this combo is fairly good at throwing smaller baits if you get the medium power rod, most of them are mediums but I have seen them with medium heavy rods. I use this rod mainly for throwing small crankbaits I use for smallmouth Bass fishing. When you say small spinners are you talking for trout fishing, or bass spinnerbaits? If it is the small trout ones this probably isn’t the combo you want I would look into a spinning rod and reel combo. If it is bass spinnerbaits this is perfect. I hope this helps.
This will definitely be a good option for getting hooked up on some bass and other species of that size range. With the medium power rod that this has you are able to throw a wide variety of baits. If you are new to baitcasters they do require a learning curve to get used to using them. Please check out my video on learning how at: ua-cam.com/video/zBdjxH3DW-0/v-deo.html. I hope this helps man, keep it Blue Collar!
I like the blue max rod better, and the reels are almost the same. The black max probably has a better reputation because so many are sold and they just last.
I used my the other day, couldn’t get it to cast more the 7 feet, I don’t know what it is. I was using spider braided line. I don’t know if it was that, also this is my first time owning one so if I can get some tips it would be nuce
Hey manny, there are a few things you can check to see if the reel is set up correctly. First check the spool tension knob on the side of the reel, with you bait of choice tied on depress the thumb button and loosen or tighten depending until the bait drops very slowly to the ground. The send thing is to try setting the magnetic brakes to the halfway point and try to cast it. Hopefully this works if not as with any other product it could be defective and I would suggest trying to return the proof that is still an option. Also here is a link to a video I did that shows how to set up your reel for casting.
Thanks for the comment Lim, I’m actually not sure if it is compatible or not. In the future if I do a review on the max x I will definitely see if it fits.
Kimchi over at the channel Country Kimchi’s Soul let me borrow it for the review but he picked it up at Walmart for $69. Almost every Walmart has some unless they are sold out. Like I said they are the best selling baitcaster combo of all time. Hope you find one!
This one had a medium action rod, but you can find these with medium heavy rods too. It really just depends on the retailer. Recently at Walmart I have only been seeing medium actions. Hope this helps.
James, yea this was a brand new combo that still had the zip ties that come on it from the manufacturer. That is common on most combos, I just didn’t get around to removing them yet. They are mainly there to prevent theft in stores. Good question though.
He can't be a fishermen etc is he watching you on this vid for? Zip ties come on a ton of rods. N yes it is for theft reasons so bring a knife lol. (Keeponfishin) brotha
I got one last week and got to use it this weekend and loved it! It worked just as good as any experience ones I have used
It’s truly an amazing baitcaster and it’s my first time using it I caught 6 bass it’s amazing

Just a tip. I wouldn't have background music playing while doing your review. Its really distracting.
30 seconds in I can't continue.
It is March 14, 2024, and I just bought the black Mac, it was just luck to find your review. Thank you.
I like that you left the zip tie on the reel, I’ve done that and only notice two years later
This was actually my brother in laws, he had just bought it, I always remove it first on all mine.
I bought 2 of them!! One for okuma 1.95 competition..and the 2 for okuma safina casting.....both...great reels!!
Regards from Chile
Eme, that is great, yea these reels are the shining point of the combo, those are some good rods man. I hope they work out just fine for you.
Im glad you said the line size. good review

Bought that reel the other day at Walmart I put it on the Ugly Stik GX2 rod hopefully I picked the correct rod for it.
Yea you did that’s the same combo am going to get for mine

Functional rod & reel but extremely uncomfortable to hold.

Where is this rod and reel combo made?
Mars
Dislike reel grips and the drag doesnt feel as strong than last model
Can the spool of black max 3 fit into max x?
Thanks for the comment Lim, I’m actually not sure if it is compatible or not. In the future if I do a review on the max x I will definitely see if it fits.
What size jig is that
1/4 oz
