  • We set out to learn how to use a pie iron during our latest camping trip. It's pie iron cooking all weekend long. We learn a lot of lessons and the best ever pie iron breakfast (you have to try it!) We also make pie iron breakfast sandwiches from biscuits and waffles. And we attempt pie iron pizza and paninis (or is it pudgy pies?!) for dinner. Plus, a walk through Greenfield State Park in New Hampshire. A fun weekend around the campfire!

    You did a great job on the food it looks sooo good. I think I'll buy a pie iron and give it a try myself. One thing I did see which needs some help and this is not meant to be a beat down. just some advise. I feel it would be good to put some foil or parchment paper on the table before opening the iron, it leaves the table cleaner for others and also doesn't attract bugs, dogs, raccoons or anything else that smells the oil on the table. Keep on camp'n and cook'n

      Thanks for watching! You're right, we needed a better spot for managing the pie iron! For our next outing, we solved this issue and bought some silicone hot pads for the pie iron to rest on between cooks. And we cleaned this picnic table well before we left!

    the keg is a fire fighter game. When fire departments have get togethers a team is on each side of the keg and shoot water at the keg trying to push it to the other teams side. Lots of fun to watch even better to do it. One rule though at least when I was on a department is you can't shoot the water stream directly at the other team.

    Nice variety. I was torn about raw dough or bread, & now I have an option even for waffles. Great ideas!! Thank you!! Happy camping!!

      The waffles are one of our faves! We started adding chocolate and marshmallows to the middle for a s'mores-like dessert and that's been a huge hit! The bread is easier and less error prone; but experimenting with dough is fun for when you have a little more time and patience!

      Oh thank you so much! I wasn't a camper until we bought the trailer (which, we did on a whim and I was very scared I made a bad decision! Ha!) Having a little cottage on wheels makes it feel less like camping and more like living temporarily in nature with all the comforts of home. :)

    I've been camping for decades and pie irons were a blind spot for me. Just this year I bought two irons and love using them. I haven't thought of using them for breakfast. I'm thinking about it now. Your ideas are thoughtful and look delicious. Thanks for posting. BTW we also tote around our T@B with our Tacoma.

    Thank you so much for this video. Granted you posted this 2 years ago but girl I didn't even know they made these and my husband and I started doing family camping trips 3 years ago. This would be a total game changer to breakfast and dinner time. They have these at my job and I didn't know how to use them. I found your video and it literally filled me in on everything I needed to know and gave me some pretty cool ideas for recipes as well!! Thank you so much!!

    • @CookwithKerry

      @@Mama_Toby We can sometimes find some Belgian style waffles in the frozen section which are thicker and they thaw in the cooler but that's no biggie. But even the normal Eggos are good!

    Fun stuff! Good recipes!
    I wonder why they must can’t seem to make a pie iron that actually fits a standard slice of bread? Dang!
    Wondering what the spray is that you use? Is it butter? Or oil?
    I sent you a BIG like and a “YouBoat.” 😉

    • @CookwithKerry
      @CookwithKerry  2 роки тому +1

      Ha! Good point about the bread, but maybe crimping the edges gives a good seal for paninis?! We were just using cooking spray which I think is basically just canola oil (from Costco!)

    • @OutdoorsygalO
      @OutdoorsygalO 2 роки тому

      @@CookwithKerry ~ thanks for letting me know about the canola oil.
      If you’re wondering what the “YouBoat” meant…..just think about another name for that during WW2.
      Just don’t want the bots to clue in. 😉

    Just use white bread and save yourself a lot of hassle and needing a lot of groceries. You can get a better feel of when they are done, consistently. Broccoli and cheese works well.
