- If you want guitar, here it is, in all it's ominous shimmering sustain, tone, & phrasing glory! Jake E. Lee is a monster, and this album is Godzilla sized perfection!
Ozzy, eat your heart out!

This band had the misfortune to come along at a time of change in the music industry - the move to Grunge. If they'd have been 5 years sooner, they'd have been huge. What a voice, what great guitar, what a great rhythm section. All 3 albums are ridiculously great.

Thank you, my friend!
Muchas Gracias!
@@mdwayne741 your welcome
This album will always share a special place in my heart
This will always be bad ass one of the only albums I love as much as Zakk's music completely awesome
indeed I resemble and echo that.
Absolutely. Saw them at The Flaming Mug in Fayetteville, NC with about 100 other people in 1991. They were so good.
Me Too!! I was in Love with the Lead Singer! What a Voice!!!!!
@jasonlamer I remember the Flaming Mug! Me and friends would hang out there all the time. Beautiful girls with the big hair, and great cover bands every weekend. We walked in one night and Ace Frehley was playing we couldn't believe it!!! Great memories
Still sounds fantastic 31 years later
1 of the best hard rock blues album of all time.
Dam! It's 2023 and I just discovered this band! I've been living underneath a rock! These guys are or were badass!!
Me too. I just realized that Jake E. Lee was the guitarist I liked the most with Ozzy and now I've been researching everything Jake E. Lee for the past week.
Jake on fire on Badlands. Firing on all cylinders!
Great Band. Jake hasn't toured in a while, he basically has checked out.
A warm Welcome ... there is always much more to discover! Such a great time, the 80`s. So glad i was part of it.
Long live rock and roll and me too !
Jake E. Lee = one of the most underrated musicians of all time
calm down..
yes sir!
He is the best next to Randy Rhoads and Eddie van halen
The use of the term "underrated" is the most overused term of all time.
@@user-cn1ii3sq7b you made a good point right here
Saw them on this tour in Phoenix at a hole in the wall called the Mason Jar. I sat way in the back. Before they hit the stage, Rob Halford from Judas Priest sneaks in and sits next to me. That's how good this band and album was. Halford came to see them at a dive bar.
Rob new how good Ray was!!

@jeffaary Mittendorf: I was there too!! Front of stage and it was an AMAZING show!! I'd just moved from Portland, OR a few months before and had seen Jake E. Lee w/Ozzy previously but this band was where he really shined! I've got both this and their first on cassette, can't find on cd. I believe they were very underrated & never got the glory they deserved. The Mason Jar show just blew my mind it was so friggin good!!
Jake is SUCH a badass guitarist/songwriter. What he did for his "solo" career was MILES away from what he did for Ozzy!
Jake's solo on "the Last Time" always make me smile :)
SOUL STEALER ........WOW !
This album RIPS ! Definitely one of the most underrated and overlooked bands EVER !
RIP RAY !
Everyone shines so bright on this album. Jeff Martin is unfairly overlooked. He is a dynamite drummer!
yes and hes funny as hell
Banging drummer as well as an insane singer with Racer X..awesome
Just nice raw recording!! Love it
Surprised nobody mentioned the underrated cover of Fire and Rain. What a fantastic rock rendition.
Yessir
One of the most beautiful album ever
JAKE E. LEE IS THAT DUDE- SO UNDER APPRECIATED- IN MY OPINION HE'S BEEN ONE OF THE BEST GUITARISTS OUT THERE SINCE HE HIT THE SCENE-YOU GO JAKE WITH YOUR BAD ASS
RIP Ray. Vocal God
If you've listened to enough music, regardless of your age, and you aren't locked into staid thinking, *_this_* will be recognized as one of the best offerings of the Rock 'n' Roll genre, from its beginnings to today in 2019. Period. While 'taste' is wholly subjective, there's *_nothing_* about this album that is sub-par.
What a killer voice! Never heard nothing like it then or now. The genuine sound of Ray's voice will never be replaced!!!
Richie Kotzen could pull this off.
Listen to Rhett Forester
So I guess you've never heard David Coverdale?
I agree ❤️ Joseph Thomas
Brian Easterwood that’s really mean to say.. & disrespectful
easily one of the BEST guitar albums of all time. This guy is beyond amazing. Vocals are superb, bass and drums are brilliant. it doesn't get better than this album.
Idk. The debut is my favorite
Here still listening in April 12, 2020 covid lockdown z.c., phils.
Here still listening april 13 2020 covid lockdown psyop dave atlanta long live badlands and freedom
This kicks hard!! Badlands ruled.. Ray was one of the greatest singers ever and Jake was at his best.... Great, great record!!
Good very good something reminds of grandfunk"s Mark Farmer.
Ray gillan blew me away live!!! He had such an incredible range that that he had to be seen live to be fully appreciated!!!
Hello: RAY GILLEN , and IAN GILLIAN ‼️
Yeah hermaño, saw him make his singing debut w/Sabbath in New Haven back in the day, Anthrax and W.A.S.P. opened..insane,so glad he ended up in Badlands..R.I.P.
a masterpiece...RIP Ray
Jake E. Lee is a great guitar player. Great album.
Jake is not just a great guitarist with unbelievable tone. He is a great songwriter. Has anyone seen him on videos where he is playing live and tunes his guitar right in the middle of a song without skipping a beat? Brilliant
His guitar is always teasing you. He is holding back then lets rip and your face blows off. Amazing!!!!
BADLANDS produced some of the greatest music of this era!
One of my favourite albums of all time. Pure Gold :-)
one of the most underated guitarist and song writer
Don't forget the rest of the brilliant Musicians in this Superb band!
I listened to this album as well as the first so many times back in the day. RIP Ray Gillen.
I love this album ..... so fucking good
+gabriel guitarrista and soooo expensive to get on cd.
+milkminotaur found it on Amazon. 15 quid, not bad.
This album is mindbendingly awesome. Untouchable
Ray Gillan was one of those people who just had an incredible voice you knew it was him on the first note and were in for a great song. Jake E. Lee had pure gold with badlands it's a shame they only did three albums. R.I.P Ray Gillan you are miss down here on this big blue marble we call earth.
Ray Gillan had a tremendous rock voice...
Amazing album. This album is like a fine wine, aged 24 years to perfection! It amazes me that Jake is known more for his work with Ozzy (which was amazing) than the true guitar legend he is, and showed on the Badlands albums. The soulful riffs he plays on the Badlands albums puts him into a category with Stevie and Jimi.
It’s because this album was buried from rock history by the label. But real true underground fans of hard rock know.
Pure bad ass album. KNAC 105.5 out of Los Angeles played lot of Badlands back in the day.
Never got to see them live but my buddies did and said it was epic.
Jake E. Lee is a guitar god !!!!
Holy f**k, this album aged like a fine wine. I haven't listened to this since the 90s and it sounds even better now!
Ray gillan ,f...cking great singer!!!!!!!!!!!!
The whole band is great! This album rawx!!!
Ray and Jake E were a phenomenal
dual threat! So complimentary as a
tandem. Absolutely underrated and
one of the very best I've ever heard.
Great band!
It’s RAY GILLEN , under singer it’ s IAN GILLIAN 🤷♀️bye
It's actually Gillan, not Gillian. But anyways, Ray GILLEN... One of the best, without a doubt.
Jake played some of his greatest work on this LP. Ray was indeed the kick n the as Jake needed. R.I.P Ray
So much depth, attitude, and diversity on this disc. Gillan was a monster voice. Jake's playing was so aggressive and dirty. That muted staccato intro on Whiskey Dust is priceless.
A masterpiece of an album. Badass players with a truly excellent singer.
It's sad that this band came to an end. But there music will live FOREVER. I'm 62 and will listen to them. Till the day I die. Till the day I die🤘🤘
When you listen to the rhythm section during "Shine On" that pretty much sums it up. Art, musical writing abilities and technical prowess at it's finest.
Great band! One of my top five bands of all time. Thanks guys for the music!
Jake e. Lee is an amazing guitarist, he’s right there with EVH!
10 times better then Eddie
Todays guitar wizards make eddie sound novice..
@@ic_clearly you cant tell these old dudes this stuff lol. herman li, for example
Despite only having three albums, Badlands is by far my favorite band. And every time I listen to them, I love them even more! I'm not sure what is a bigger crime - the fact that the band no longer exists or the criminal lack of recognition that these guys get!
Michael Fox agree 1000%
DominicGio wow! Me and my entire family and friends are HUGE Badlands, Dream Theater and especially Schenker fans. I couldn't agree with your comment more. My top 3 also!!! You have great taste my friend. Seeing DT in November and Michael in March this year.
Both 😕
Michael Fox not my absolute favorite band but definitely one oh them.
I agree. Unfortunately the biggest crime is what Ray Gillen did to all those unsuspecting women. His crime, from what sources say, is why no Badlands albums are available besides Dusk. Makes me sick.
First album blew me away, then this one came out and to this day I still haven't found the top of my head!
Great singer so sad he died so young. Rip ray one of the best voices in rock.
Amazing album! Nothing coming out now can even come close to touching this.
Jake E. Lee is simply AWESOME.
A truly timeless work
Saw them and I'm so glad I did. Debut and this lp two of my deserted island picks. Both incredible start to finish
One of the greatest bands I've ever heard ! Had Ray Gillan not passed away, things would have been so different! Whole album rocks, especially, In A Dream !
yeah i definitely think his death meant the end for the band.
Nah, they split way before his death. They were already done with before his passing but they’d give it one more try.
Hello : RAY GILLEN , and IAN GILLIAN😂
Going through a rough divorce during this time-this album really helped me get through ..
A masterpiece!!!
A truly forgotten record by a great band the first album is even more bad ass, Ray was a heck of a singer.
"Ozzy, eat your heart out!" ... Yup!!!! Nothing Ozzy has done post-Jake can touch this. I could care less how many albums he has sold. Musically, Badlands kicks his ass! No contest.
Michael Fox
Ozzy is a joke man. We’ve seen this fact the last 20 years or so. He’s lived on others heavy lifting. Can you say....
Tony Iommi
Geezer Butler
Bill Ward
Randy Rhodes
Jake E Lee
Bob Daisley
Lee Kerslake
He would be a homeless bum without these guys. Fuck that talentless loser!
This drummer didn’t do halfway as a good of a job on this album drumming as Eric singer did on the first album!
Completely agree (the original post). The drummer on this album killed it. This is a very different album from their debut. No comparison. It is, however, creepy to hear the stuff regarding Ray Gillen and his purported passing of HIV onto unknowing women. Makes me sick and tragic that Badlands albums aren't available for purchase ANYWHERE because of this!!
Slow down with the blame game here. Ozzy has a heart of gold, I would bet anything that it's less Ozzy and more Sharon who is responsible for Jake's untimely departure.
Yeah Dickweeds will probably say the same about David Lee Roth. Whatever. Ozzy and Roth made Sabbath and VH rise to the top in the beginning and their voices were instrumental (no pun intended) in those endeavors. Nuff said.
This band is so fkn amazing!!!!! Still blows the shit on the radio today out of the water!
Ray Gillen one of a kind voice. RIP.
"The Last Time I'll be falling in Love"!!!!! Wahoo!!! Yeah Man!!!! Great song!!!!😁😁😁😃😃😃☺☺☺😄😄😄😋😋😊😊😊🎸🎵🎸🎶🎵🎼🎼🎼
World Class Band! Should have been! Period!
Ray Gillen is one of the finest Rock vocalists ever. Wow...
R.I P. Ray Gillen, ontem completou 29 anos sem ele. 🤘🎤🎼🎶
Plant-Coverdale-Rose = Ray Gillen
Great Voice ... R.I.P.
Great Album
Hail from AustriA
Ray Gillen=God of rock!
I feel privileged to have seen them live, such an amazing band with a unique sound and style. This band is in my top 5 favs of ALL time.
YES! They rocked live. I saw them twice. Once the show was stopped when someone threw a beer bottle at the bass player. He stopped everything and called them out, had them booted. Amazing live.
The version of James Taylor's Fire And Rain on this disc, is unbelievable
This was the soundtrack to my 20s. So many memories \m/
All I love in Hard-Rock ! Thank God to give us this Giant Band of talents !
one of the most amazing recordings evah! nuff said! no digital, protool crap! pure raw bringing it!
Man I know what y'all mean...I listen to Rays soaring vocals and Jake's growling bluesy masterful emotion provoking guitar mastery and I think......God please bless all again with think musical rareity
This album and and their debut album are so sweet and nasty. I'd just started playing guitar when the first one came out and I freakin' loved it! I was so excited to get this sophomore effort and it did not disappoint. Jake is so good and Badlands is such an underrated band. It's a travesty that so many people have never even heard of them.
Thanks for posting.
I bought this album back in the day!!! Still holds up!!!
Timeless album
goosebumps.they are carved in stone good, these boys were a high water mark, few could attain, raw bluesy sound,JAKE IS NEVER LOST ON THE NECK
Jake E Lee, the metal funkster! Love this guy. I used to buy Badlands cassette tapes when they came out lol...born in '71..thank God!
I 💘 Jeff Martin drums on this album.
Absolutely great record! Been listening to this for 25 plus years. The songs are simply great.

My ONLY complaint is the song order. The Last Time is weak. Not an opener. Should've opened the album with Love Don't Mean A Thing or Soul Stealer
AMAZING......SING IT RAY ! GETEM JAKE.
Bravo great comment!!!!!!!!!!!!
soul stealer !!¡!! this band rips the door off like a search warrant!!!! great band and vocals ☠️😈🍸🍺 kicking out the jams
Just what Van Halen did to 'You Really Got Me"... Badlands did to "Fire & Rain"... it is epic.
and to think it started as an inside joke lol
From what I have heard the cover started as an accident. The band liked to jam to the song "fire and water"by Free but Jake started playing "fire and rain" and they stuck with it.
Van Halen is bubble gum music, garlands is ....well bad ass!
You said it.
@@dancly1913 garlands? Like garlands on your Christmas tree?
Jake E Lee is just amazing. RIP Ray Gillian... Like his new band Red-Dragon Cartel :-)
they kick ass the bigger crime is they don't get the recognitions they deserve
My ALL TIME Favorite band. I also saw them with Great White and Tesla back in '89...I was BLOWN AWAY!! So underrated! One of the few albums I NEVER get tired of hearing...EVERY tune on VH is chock full of rock n roll attitude and GUTS!! Did I mention I love this band?? LOL.
underrated old school hardrock band - great guitar , amazing vocals
Look up “Detective” & “D.A.D”….
If Carlsberg did music albums, this is probably the best cassette tape I've ever bought. Wow, brilliant from The Last Time to In A Dream...
Great songs! Great playing! Great singing! Jake sure knew what he was doing!

I was lucky enough to see Jake E. Lee playing solo, outside, in Knoxville, TN. He was absolutely fantastic. Still one of my favorite guitarist.
