- Thanks to you, I found the original pattern for the vintage ski sweater I've been wearing! This time, I want to take a closer look at the decisions the knitter for my sweater, and I found out that it was resized!

Engineering knits is a place for people who enjoy all kinds of vintage and antique crafts - from sewing to knitting, crochet to embroidery I like to try it all. I definitely have a preference for historical fibre crafts, and it is my dream to one day make an entire outfit from sheep to sweater. I hope you enjoy watching me and my favorite companion, Nutella, struggle through some fascinating projects!
I think I could watch a whole series on diving into the construction of your vintage knits. It's always interesting seeing how other knitters make modifications and implement techniques like float management.
Yes! We need more knitting forensics!
Thanks for your sensitivity around the gender of the knitter. All of my vintage knits were knit by my father although my mother sewed my name into the knits!
I don't think your dad would care if she said the knitter was a woman.
Is it odd that I don't knit, but can still appreciate the float management on that sweater? It is a beautiful handmade piece. I am glad it has found its way to someone that truly appreciates it.
You can appreciate art, skill and beauty without being versed in that specific artwork or craft that you admire.
I love this motif! It reminds me of the home alone hat, which I knit a version of a while ago. Also, seeing how you go about calculating how the garment is constructed helps give me confidence to design or reverse engineer my own projects ❤
My mother made this sweater for my father decades ago. I love it.
That float management is beautiful! And this video was just the cosy vibes I needed ❤
Micha (sorry if spelled wrong), I just wanted to say I hope you are doing well, mentally, physically, emotionally. You are such an inspiration to watch. I hope you have a wonderful holiday season filled with joy and great memories. Wishing you the best.

It’s a super cute sweater and I love the design. I don’t have the skills to knit colour work like this, it’s on my list of skills I want to learn next year.
This is such a beautiful jumper, inside & out!
I love that sweater too!!! ♥️♥️♥️
Looking forward to your next steps.
it's BEAUTIFUL
I’m excited to see how you do this! I’m looking forward to the machine knitting too!
Looking forward to seeing your vesion of the sweater. Feel better 🤒🙏
I totally found this pattern on Ravelry after your last video! Quickly Found a copy on eBay:) You are a teaser !!! I searched all your videos first to find out all about it 😂
I've got the pattern too. Bought it years ago at the thrift store. I hope to make it one day.
Mary Lou left a gem for us ❤️ I love it!
This is a gorgeous sweater.
That sweater would lose spectacularly in an ugly sweater contest. It's gorgeous! Feel better, and please don't push yourself.
Please feel 100% soon! We appreciate all you do!
Such a cute sweater, and I would NOT consider it an ugly Christmas sweater!! Those are a different creature all together.
I myself don't knit, but I do leathercraft, and I appreciate your videos so much! I like to watch them as I craft myself and hope to knit a sweater now as well 😊
yay yay yay! I've been so excited for this one!
Haha as a Dutch person I feel you on the long torso and arms! I'm not even that tall compared to the Dutch average, but I've noticed that on most American sewing patterns I need to add about 2" / 10cm to the torso to make it fit me!
The name on the name tag is interesting, Mary Lou sounds very English/American, but Nissen sounds like a Dutch surname!
Nothing ironic about this sweater; it's gorgeous!
Love this sweater.
Have you thought about knitting it in circulars and steeking?
I love the pattern
I recently saw a short by Dylan Hollis called Christmas Crack 1970's. He is wearing a similar sweater with a lovely color combination.
Such a pretty sweater. Not an entry for an ugly sweater contest.
After I saw you wearing this sweater, I searched Ravelry for the pattern. I found the listing, but there is no way to purchase the pattern, as the book is out of print. Do you know how we can get the pattern? I have considered just trying to count stitches from the screen and mark them on graph paper and go from there. But if there is a way to purchase the pattern - I would prefer to do that!
I was wondering the same thing.
I think she’s planning on recreating the pattern in multiple sizes similar to what she did last year with the Mohn Cardigan. I really hope so because I love the sweater, but don’t want to do the math to figure out how to make it in my size.
I LOVE seeing the back!!! It tells so much and I have enough know how now to understand more. The whole time you were showing off the right side in the beginning, I was BEGGING to see the inside😅
How about knitting this sweater in red and white or burgundy/white for yourself ..?. Looking forward to seeing your results.
I like the Sweater !! Are u doing the same colors ?? Hope u feel better soon !!
I love that Nissen also is the norwegian word for father Christmas/ santa Clause 😊
You can make your own punch cards with a cricut! I have the Joy Xtra, its perfect for punch cards. I think that that would help with your project. Thank you for your video!
Aw it's certainly not an ugly sweater! Looking forward to seeing you knit this up but for heavens sake look after yourself first...you don't want to be sick for Christmas🤒
I would also wear that sweater unironically, though I am a larger gal, so I would have to make my own adjustments. Which is fine, I like math, like modifying the pattern would be part of the fun.
Would love to knit this sweater but when I looked up the book on ebay it would cost me between $50 and 60 CDN with shipping and exchange, which is way out of my budget. Amazon had one for $500 which is insanity. Looked it up before finishing the video and realizing now that it is only for 34 to 36 bust, definitely not worth trying to find the pattern since my ladies are plus sized and I am not skilled enough to size up that much. Will have to resign to living vicariously through you. I am very impressed with the floating on that sweater. The person that knit it was skilled.
Omg that colour work 😮. How!? How did she do that? Thanks for showing the inside in such detail!
I'm working on my first colourwork sweater rn and its not ... Great 😅. I need to look at a lot more of these hand knitted jumpers on the inside i think.
Its a beautiful design ❤ im excited to see you recreate it - best of luck 🤞
(Ps. I hope you feel better soon!)
I don’t know what UA-cam is doing, but in this video only foreign languages audio tracks, no original
