Thanks for enlightening me to the defencies of DP, I only just switched to DP from DVI on my 1080p 144hz monitors with my 6900XT. I was looking at upgrading to 4K 144hz monitors and one of them didn't have HDMI, that puts it into perspective. DP can do it with display stream compression I believe though. However I don't like the sound of compression, might as well game at a lower res.
Been in the graphics industry and while monitor profile like this excites us always, the value still comes to play. The current problem with this is one is that I can still managed to get something on par as long as Dell and other dedicated color-profile monitors are still out there as an alternative, and even as a gamer - I consider this a luxury niche than needs.

"Who needs this?"
Radiologists need it. They currently use displays around 1500-2000 nits.
I've also seen in the flesh a display around 2800nits on paper being used in a darkened room for someone doing cancer diagnosis from scans.
So what you're saying is that you'll be able to see how cancerous a lobby is 'before' joining it?
I'd love to learn more about it
Why would the need such brightness?

People always talk about how monitors "aren't bright enough for hdr" and I sit here with my monitor set to 10/100 brightness to not burn my eyes out ... I think there's a reason why many manufacturers don't chase technologies like this.
I bought a new monitor a few months ago that many people said wasn't bright enough at 350 nits. If I'm gaming at night and the screen goes white it's like a flashbang going off
All of this. It's not about how bright the monitor can get. It's how *dim* it can get that matters to me.
@@TheLeroy1981 350 isn't much for HDR, barely HDR400, but considering most monitors are more like 250nits that's plenty! I have 400nits.
@@benjaminoechsli1941 well relatively speaking a brighter monitor can go darker (obviously in comparison to peak brightness) I mean 10nits is 10 nits its only smaller when compared like 10 out of 350 or 10 out of 1000
I have an HDR 1000 monitor and play in completely dark room and no, it’s not at all like a flash bang. It doesn’t work like that. It only ever gets to that brightness on certain parts of the screen that need it, like the sun on a game.

Feels like monitor tech is progressing in too many directions. Obviously this is a professional display, but so little progress is done in regards to making backlight strobing actually work with good brightness, making sure gaming monitors actually have an srgb clamp and not having to RMA a screen 5 times due to pretty bad QC all over the industry in regards to dead pixels and bleeding.
You'd think TV makers would start making smaller ones now. Like a 32" OLED with HDMI 2.1. I just wonder if the PC market is worth their time?
Yeah. I just need a 32" 4k color accurate 144Hz with little ghosting/smearing for $500..! Am I asking for too much? 🙃 Guess I'll wait
What they need is better A.I chips that goes into high-end TVs. Unless you're a creator, there is little reason to buy a monitor like this over a TV for HDR consumption.
Funny thing is that TV tech is the exact same way.
@@wojciechszmyt3360 Just wait for several years for that to happen.
I have the PG32UQX and love it. The response time could definitely be better and there's some blurriness with quick movements but that 1600 nit brightness and FALD makes HDR gaming look SOOO good

Did anyone else get unreasonably irritated when he left the monitor crooked towards the end?
OMG yes!
i didnt but im saying i did
Holy hell. This is so goddamn cool. As someone who deals with 32 bit images a lot in the form of HDRs for 3D rendering, you could practically see the entire dynamic range of the image with this monitor. You know you’re getting close to being able to replicate the entire dynamic range of even the human eye when you have to avert your gaze to let your eyes adjust to the brightness. Like imagine being in a game in a relatively dimly lit room. You get knocked out in-game, the screen fades to black, and then you’re blinded suddenly with an extremely bright image. You wouldn’t have to do the thing where the screen is white, and then gradually simulates your eyes adjusting for brightness by slowly lowering the exposure. You could actually let the viewers eyes doing the adjusting by themselves. Would be so immersive
I would just love it if those flash bangs were more realistic. I also want Smell-O-Vision.

As someone who does a bunch of VFX and real-time work for movies this would be perfect. Currently just running a bunch of LG 32UN650's which do a great job for their price. Thing is most work is remote atm, so color accuracy and high refresh goes out the window anyway. Still though, a guy can dream.
The 16 series cards take hdmi 2.1 for anyone willing to compromise on a card. As long as most of your computer is used for cpu tasks, a 1650S would take care of a 4k120 desktop
im sorry, but a 1650 super? at 4k 120hz? are you high?
@@springpanda9393 I mean it’s doable I guess if you’re running more lightweight games or, like Lunoboi said, doing more CPU driven work but need the extra operation smoothness when on the desktop. That said, I personally would not use a 1650 Super for 4k/120 (also Turing only has HDMI 2.0 ports which also include the 16 series along with the 20 series. Now if you were to use a DisplayPort 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 cable/converter then I could see it being feasible with Turing GPUs).
Edit: The only HDMI 2.1 spec that was brought to the 16 and 20 series GPUs was VRR (variable refresh rate). Other than that, you’re not getting 4k/120 Hz without some serious chroma subsampling.
