It’s a pretty solid take on the Godzilla schtick & it works just as well as a standalone monster movie, even if a bit dated. The hate for it seems fairly synthetic tbh.
Because Godzilla is suppose to a force of nature, therefore is essentially immune to conventionally weapons. This one is taken out by like two generic missiles. His son in the sequel cartoon series far better captures the spirit of Godzilla.
This really wasn't a bad Godzilla movie like the critics made it out to be. My only problem is that they made this godzilla into a mutated Iguana more than they made him look like the actual Godzilla himself.

@@chasesmith5216No... The reason he looks like this is because Roland Emmerich didn't want him to look like Godzilla. Roland only called it Godzilla because he was cut a good deal and the name was worth a lot of money, but it had nothing to do with Godzilla, especially since Emmerich and Dean Devlin admitted to hating the source material. The original American Godzilla design WAS very reminiscent of the original, but Jan De Bont, the director of the original planned adaptation, quit the project and Emmerich came in.

I couldn't care less about the original, I prefer this one. Godzilla looked like some giant Ape. This one has a lizard appearance which gave it a Dinosaur look. And this movie was good.
You should watch movies of the Heisei series. They have some issues, but Godzilla looks epic, and the stories are very dramatic and Godzilla either involuntarily saves humans from their own stupidity, suffering enourmously in the process, or fights humans in self-defence.
Subs in the Hudson River. Lol. While this movie was fun, the absurdities were many. It was as tall as buildings and could dive into the water right off the dock. WhTs the max depth right around the city maybe 40-45 ft? Subs racing around fully submerged in the Hudson. Just crazy
Yeah, especially since Zilla is apparently 180 feet tall, and the Hudson is only 203 feet deep. And there's no way an Ohio class submarine could effectively maneuver in there.
It would've done better as a spoof of the tired Godzilla sequels. 1:22 the director should've had Godzilla stop and preen for the dude with the videocamera.
You got a point. At first I thought there was two Godzillas when I first saw this. Then I realized, even if they actually hit godzilla, it would have been able to penetrate him at that angle. Those fighter jet missiles, on the other hand. They were fast enough and powerful enough to penetrate.@@JustRememberWhoYoureWorkingFor
This movie gets a bad rep for A LOT of valid reasons, but no one is willing to talk about how it makes the US military look absolutely inept. At least the original Japanese version strived to give the Japanese military some redemption since WWII was still fairly recent. We have Troops and artillery firing blindly into their own aircraft, who themselves are recklessly flying close together in narrow areas rather than above the skyline at a distance, then you have submarines firing off armed torpedoes in shallow water in close proximity to each other and their target. Which btw, modern torpedoes have a range of over 30 miles and can detonate via direct impact, proximity, or remotely. So they could have not only fired them from a safe distance down river from Godzilla, they could have used them like depth charges to disorient and incapacitate Godzilla without actually hitting him, and they could have remotely detonated those torpedoes that were at risk of hitting one of their own ships. This isn't blind patriotism and claiming the US armed forces are perfect, nor is it failing to consider that they are in a unique situation involving a giant monster, this is basic stuff that would not let them be operating at this level of stupidity.
@@tamoghnasen5158I wanted to say that the film is not the best in terms of logic and scientific truth. But it is true that in absolute terms it is an interesting question, what is the intensity necessary to lock an infrared missile, I would say that it is highly unlikely that a temperature between 20 and 40 degrees is enough to lock the missile, already that they have difficulty with targets at more than 200 degrees.
