After graduating College in 2016, I've accumulated a lot of knowledge from 52 books (as of this video), and now I want to give back.
I decided to start with First Principles, because it lays the groundwork for all other concepts that I eventually want to present. As I said in the video, I first discovered this idea while watching Elon Musk in an Interview. After reading about Elon Musk's story in "Elon Musk" by Ashlee Vance, I found that the concept of First Principles is synonymous with who Elon is and that a video I make about First Principles must include him in it.
    Here are the links:
Interview with Elon Musk (start at 22:40):
    • Elon Musk and Kevin Rose
Neil deGrasse Tyson explains why the sun is not a yellow star.
    • 10 Things You have Hea...
Pretty much all other information I learned from books. Comment if you want to know from which book I got a specific piece of information.

3:45 "Need a launch vehicle to improve rocket technology" -> "Try to get ICBMs from Russia" - that doesn't make sense. Initially, Elon thought that lack of progress in space technology was caused by "lack of will", so to inspire people (and in result increase NASA budget) he wanted to launch and land on Mars little greenhouse (Mars Oasis). He didn't have enough money to buy Delta II, so he traveled to Russia to negotiate a deal to purchase ICBMs. After several trips he concluded that he got his assumption wrong ("lack of will") - the real reason why humanity didn't land on Mars is that it would be prohibitively expensive using existing rocket technology ("people thought there is no way"). He realized that the launch cost has to be lower to settle Mars, he knew (based on the first principles reasoning) that it was possible to build cheaper rockets, so he started SpaceX.

Great video, although one slight technical error in saying the sun is yellow. The sun looks "yellow" to us on Earth, but in fact, astronauts through their gold-tinted protective visor/shields in the form of helmets, would see the sun as white, like the white-hot fire you can sometimes see in arc-welding on a factory floor :) Reasoning with first principles methodology tells me that the electromagnetic spectrum includes visible light, which we can detect simply with our limited primary sense of vision, and visible light includes all of the colors we can see through our cellular structures of cones and rods in our eyes. If the sun is the origin of the electromagnetic spectrum in the first place, then it stands to reason that visible light also originates from the sun. As Sir Isaac Newton once used a glass prism to break down visible light in its component colors, demonstrating that visible light is composed of all the colors of a rainbow, so to would the sun technically appear as white. I believe we see the sun as yellow and also as shades of red during sunsets and sunrises, because the wavelength of the color red within visible light is the longest of all the colors, so if you were to recall the acronym "ROYGBIV", violet is of the shortest length. It's also why ultra-violet has shorter distance but significantly higher amplitude, if I'm not mistaken ;) Sunlight being 93 million+ miles or 1 A.U. distance from earth, it has much lower amplitude but a mind-numblingly long distance, hence nature would render the sun as being yellow/reddish to us, depending on when we look up at the sun. Remember, sunrises and sunsets also "increase" in distance as the earth spins about its own axis, when compared to the sun at 12:00 pm midday. SCIENCE FOR THE WIN :P

Good paragraphs. What makes good paragraphs? Good sentences. What makes good sentences? Good language, good words and easy to understand.

I'd like to see a video about how First Principle thinking applies when you're trying to figure out how to mass produce cars and cut waiting times to delivery. Storing data about how things went in the past or with competitors and understanding is a foundation of industry. Engineer a plant. Then get the process people to build lots of them so they can build lots of cars.

I have always applied the first principle of thinking in every crucial moment of my days and I didn't even know that.I don't count from 1 to 10 , I count from 10 to 1. What I mean is that I always break down questions backwards and I get the far end of the point. "He who has a why can bear any how"

I think this video misinterpreted the first principle thinking process. In step 4 you sort of combined trying to “reason up from there” with providing creative solutions. Isn’t first principle analysis is analytical in nature and a method used to better understand the problem instead of going into “how to solve a problem”?

The type of First Principles Thinking I intended to show is more practical in nature than theory. It's the same approach Elon has, and I first learned about it from him, so it's the one I wanted to discuss.

It’s so hilarious, you mentioned cigarettes, smoking in the older generation that was tricked, but nobody mentions the younger generation and their acceptance and willingness of vaping, which does way more damage than cigarettes

@@Dreamlet (I'm using Google Translate) Yes. I'm talking the first principle. I am grateful and sorry, but I can not read English well. Can you tell me the title of Aristotle's book, which deals with the First principle in the link? Then I can find and read the translated book in Korea.
