One thing I noticed is that the original sealant was applied “inside” the bolt holes, and on at least one occasion your sealant was applied “outside” a bolt hole. That would matter if the bolt hole was open at the end of the threads, as oil would migrate past the threads and cause a leak. Also, this valve cover is also the upper camshafts bearing caps, so a definite tightening sequence and torque spec would have to be followed. Finally, that’s a LOT of sealant applied that could get into the camshaft bearing bores and possibly plug bearing feed and return holes.
Such a easy job for you over there. England mechanics are… i am thinking to go in Germany to fix the rocker cover gaskets, my one is a facelift cgi. Thank you for the video.
Great work... How long we need wait for sealant to cure before start the engine and drive? Also where you located as I would like for you to work on my 09 e350. I'm in Socal area
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair I have a problem with my 2011 E350 and the display screen. The screen is black but the radio and CD player work fine. I added the apple radio you talked about in your video. Sure enough the display shows up and everything seems to be working except the control knob. The knob won't do anything. I have replaced the head unit, the screen and the knob itself. Still nothing. Any Idea what's my problem?

Hey I was watching your video to see if I actually needed my valve cover gasket to be changed. I have no external leaks but I am having oil only on the spark plug threads. Everything above the threads is dry. From watching your video it looks like the spark plugs screw in much lower down than the valve cover gasket so does it sound like my issue is valve cover gasket related or deeper into the engine?
1:30 Are you sure that this is from the valve cover gasket? I had in the front end also quiet a bit "oily gunk", but not that much like this one. It came from the oil fill cap which was broken on mine at a corner and therefore spilled over time oil through that opening.
Not too tough just tedious it seems. How did you know the valve cover needed to be replaced? I lose oil after a few months but have no idea where its coming from... sometimes after a long drive I just see random spots of oil on the engine cover. Is this also a good time to check the condition of the timing chain? Also I wish you woulda known how you cleaned it i'm terrible at that stuff. Did you put paper towels anywhere so the material didn't get into the engine? Also what kind of sealant did you use?
Adam A I didn't replace the valve cover, I cleaned it then I put new sealant on it, I got that sealant from My local Mercedes Dealership! you around the engine and you should see where the leak is coming from!
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair Hey man was also wondering on the other side there is a valve cover breather. Did you remove that and reapply the sealant there or you just left it on? Also would you recommend changing the spark plugs while the valve cover is off?

What's the RTV Sealant used as gasket maker? It doesn't look like grey ht/high strength silicon, which is not the optimal stuff for the job anyhow...
@nickkolev2507 That's the OEM silicome Mercedes uses!
Thanks for sharing, it is a great video. Quick question, what kind of silicone do you use? I guess cleaning is big part of the job. Thanks again

Per mecedes: 12nm + 90° for the valve cover bolts.
@224rebels Good!
Not sure of this was asked alrdy, but what silicone did u use and what did u use to clean the cover?
@shadeypop I used tthe Mercedes OEM silicone, I used parts Cleaner to clean the surfaces

@Dnasty1 you should reseal the valve cover first and see what happens!
I have a 2008 e350 with oil leak from valve cover I want to do it myself but I wonder how much this job typically cost?????

Do I have to remove fuel pump relay before I press in the end of the Schrader valve to remove the gas line
@groovyruben7776 why do you want to disconnect the fuel line?
How long did it take you to do both valve covers and do both side have the centrifuge gaskets to replace?
@charlesstpierre8 only one side has the centrifuge! about 3 hours for both covers!
Always start youre tork in the middle and work youre way out
@mule666 Thanks for your input!
What silicone did you use on the valve cover
Nehemias G I used a special silicone from Mercedes!
Does the 2006 4matic c280 have the same engine v6?
@brianbowen8796 it should be similar!
