- Here is my honest review and first impressions of the Holystone HS175D Drone. It is their most popular model and comes at a bargain price. The features you get for the price are quite impressive. It has a return to home, fpv, gps mode, HD video and photos.

The follow me and circle me mode works amazing on that drone. Also
I’ve used the set up
Way point mode to which is cool. And the fact it takes a SD card is bonus. Pretty advanced for a Cheap drone
I just got this drone and so far id say it has been the best ive had, not that i have had many, for a drone in this price listing i think its control and camera quality are amazing, range is certainly respectable and the home feature despite being a bit unpredictable is overall good, the drone is a good build and when i hit a tree at fast speeds it didnt break so that is an upside for me, thank you for the review
Thanks for the comment glad it's going well for you!
Could a teenager use this drone
Do I need an app for this mate?
Thanks for sharing. This was very informative!
No problem glad you liked it
Great review, well done
Cheers!
Very interesting, I've got to say about half the time I'm in the woods my DJI mini2 does the same listing
Thanks for the review
Thanks for watching 😄
My drone(HS175d) is very steady, handles well in light wind as well.
Shout to you and yours.
Wow I like it
Thanks!
🤟😀
It also has two speeds to. I have the same drone and it works amazing. Only thing I find different is video quality and that’s due to its not on a three axis gimbal
It's better video quality than some I've tried at that price 👌
Mine went beyond 700 meters, I lost connection and tried to get closer. I got 400 meters and when got signal back, the drone was running out of battery and safetely returning back home. It's amazing. I thought I had lost it
Class it seems a good drone
Thank you
😀🤘
U can adjust the trim for drift on that drone also u never mentioned u have to hook up wifi before tge drone pairs
Great video. Thanks for sharing. I live in the US and wondering if I have to do anything special in order to take my HS175D to Ireland? Would appreciate any info.
I wouldn't have thought so there's no laws against having them here
Not bad for a drone I say cheers for sharing
Thanks for watching
@@MrWildWales no problem dude
I have the same one it did that for me, but you just have to calibrate it again
That's a very timely video. I was wondering whether to get this to take with me wild camping etc. Never having had a drone before I am wary about spending £500 on a mavic dji only to crash it and break it. Sounds like you have flown several drones. Do you reckon this one would survive a wild camp environment or is it more of an urban type device ?
This would be great for wild camping as long as the weather is good it would take some lovely videos or photos for you
I'd get a second hand mavic pro my 1st drone, so easy to fly, wouldn't go for cheaper brand, my opinion
@@gdcodurham. thanks for the tip 👍
Did you have any issue with the live feed to the phone. I’m getting a very sporadic feed and I’ve followed all the recommended settings. Any suggestions?
I'm not sure sorry it all seemed OK for me
If you click the Left joystick while adjusting the drift with the rRght it will calibrate the drift.
Thanks for the info!
lol 😆 mine does the drift thing as well. Not as stationary as a DJI mind you.
One think to know. Without the app it will only fly in Optical mode. Need the app to fly in gps mode. Just an fyi for anyone
You mentioned 2 pieces of software that you could use, the one suggested by H S for that drone, what was the other one? I am having issues with the suggested one crashing on my phone so would like to try something different.
Hmm I can't remember now sorry it was something on the Google store when I searched for that drone
Any idea if "return home" will work without the cell phone connection (if you were just flying with the controller alone)?
Yes it will work without a phone!
if it drifts away you can just Trim it so it will stand in the air again. its explained in the manual
Drifting correction is explained in the manual… worth reading it ;-)
These cheaper drones can definitely be adjusted manually to make them functionable
Thanks for this great post. Have a question. The drone will go to HOME POSITION ( Start point) if it looses connection to your cell phone but, what if it looses the GPS connection? I assume in those cases it'll be lost because it has no way of finding where its at and where to go?
It will be highly unlikely to lose the GPS signal unless you fly under a tunnel in which case you will have problems!
@@MrWildWalesthank you, a lot of us have this same question. The problem of losing the drone connectivity is real with most of the lower end models, but this model seems pretty good. We got it for my dad for Christmas
As long as he starts off slow he should be fine. Great Xmas present 😄
Beginner here (just got a Holy Stone HS175D). Curious, do you mainly fly the drone by looking at it directly (line of sight), or fly it by looking at the app on your phone, as if you're actually a pilot on the drone? I was wondering how pilots control the drone when it's far away / temporarily out of sight. I assume they just look at the app on their phones. Thanks
I only look at the screen once it's taken off. Just to check it again by sight when I'm coming in to land 👍
Here in Canada u don’t need to register it because it’s under 250 grams. Might be the same in the UK
Same in UK
also do you think I should get :
HS175D?
4DRC F3?
Ryze Tello?
or any drones you love the most that's under $150-200?
I've only used this one but it seems fairly decent. Next one I'd go for is a dji but there's a big price jump
@@MrWildWales which DJI?
@@ntai_protagonist Mavic mini I've got
@@MrWildWales do you think hs175d is a reliable drone itself? ( For outdoors with like 10m/s wind)
@PB Nate enjoyer any good drones under 200?
May I ask, You know the app has "beginners mode." Is there any way to alter the values? I don't mean just turning the beginners mode off, this is my very first flying machine and I don't feel ready to do that yet, I just wondered can you reset the values to something else, if so how? Cheers, nice video
Yes I believe if you turn it off there are sliders which you can change to set the height and distance. You can't really go wrong though because if you do fly it too far it will return to you on its own!
@@MrWildWales I am a plonker! Of course, take it out of beginners mode, set your own limits and save. Thank you so much for taking the time out to reply to a newbie. Happy flying!
No problem have fun
Good vid mate 👍can i use this for fishing and does it film directly below itself so i can see the lake and where the fish are??
Nice idea! Yes you could tilt the camera to look directly down!
@@MrWildWales thanks adam! Its going to be my first drone is it simple to use and reliable and where would u buy it from?
Yeah it's easy enough to use. Link to Amazon is in the description
@@MrWildWales cheers pal👍
Do I need an app on my phone to use this if so which 1?
I cant start the drone always. Sometimes i don’t understand which direction i press the nobs to fly the wings.
Practice makes perfect
I JUST BOUGHT MINE right now on amazon for 149 euros. Great deal for what it is
Enjoy it 😁
Looks pretty good for the price
Yeah it's good for that 👌
@danteistbesser I would agree if you can afford £400 to get the dji mavic mini instead. This is more a toy. But at the price it's impressive
@danteistbesser What lying misinformation have I spread? All I did is fly it for the first time on video and give my opinion. What GPS drone have you seen for $50 that returns to home on demand because I want one
@Andraz Sturm i have DJI mini se and Mavic air. The Mini se i my favorite for some reason I trust it More than the Mavic air
Im wondering if I need a lisence to fly this drone in UK..
Google is your friend mate
@@MrWildWales he's not,the answers I found are : yes and no.
Bro there's a trim
Noooo the link is unavailable. Do you know where this drone is in stock?
and around the same price?
I'm not sure sorry! I'm in the UK
Amazon has it, I just purchased it.
Put your antena up😮
Do you remember what the second app was called?
I can't remember sorry I just searched on the play store and saw two
@@MrWildWales dang alright ty
If i had a affiliate link and got it for free i would say its good for the price but because i dont i would say iys too expensive for what it is ...the c-fly mini is 160 and its a 3 axis gimbal 2.7k video brushless motors gps etc this should cost 60 to 80 if it has brushless motors gps and at least digital stabilizer but i don't know if it does
I think GPS drones have come down in price since I reviewed it so there's cheaper ones out there. I haven't tested them so I can't say if they are good or not
I've had this drone a little over a week now, every time I would go for distance, and or height the HS175D wouldn't respond to the commands I will try not using beginner mode and putting the cell phone to airplane mode. I wanted to be able to get closer to things, see further and use for my home made music videos, but the drone gets caught in trees and the blades gets damaged, for now I will blame it on user error, as long as I stay around 11-12ft and fly no more than 20 yards I can maintain a bit of control, but as soon as I push the envelope it wont take long before I find myself hoping that I can get it from the tree tops again, my luck will run out if I don't figure out what I can do so that my HS175D fly like the ones that I see on UA-cam, suggestions are welcome, please and thank you!!!!
Hmm I'm a bit confused by that one you should be able to easily control it for at least 100 metres. It's not the easiest to control in tight spaces though. There's a setting to make sure it raises up to a certain height when return to home kicks in which may help avoiding trees
What phone u using?
I believe this was an oppo find x3
There's an antenna that you need to fold out!
How long does it take to charge
Dont know sorry
About 2 hours 20 minutes per battery for full charge
The promo code is invalid.
Thanks for the info it looks like the time has run out for it
oh...
GOOD DRONE FOR 200
Don't do it just go with the DJI
COMMENT
yes it is
more people should :)
This guy did not calibrate the controller to the drone.. He's an expert?????
😆When did I say I was an expert lol
Mine sucked, went rogue while hovering in a park .
🫣👎
Tbh I would buy a second hand dji mini for £160
I haven't seen them for that price but it sounds brilliant if you can get it 👌
2 have sold quite recently on eBay for £170 ,one on 22/10 and one on 3/10,not quite £160 but close enough, see you on you’re next upload 👍
Not a very stable drone, can’t Handel wind at all. Lost mine on take off a few times, just launches and continues to fly away. Holy stones are expensive toys. I broke down and bought a DJI and have been totally happy ever scents.
That sucks dude hope you have better luck with the dji!
If it drifts just bring it back and recalibrate it again… it is smooth as silk and will hover smooth. Just needed to recalibrate..
He can also adjust the trim with the left joystick
Flew like hot knife on butter
Bad experience with holystone my 1st experience could not sync up with Wi-Fi not a stable drone does not hover in place tends to move don't trust this product.
🫣
How many dishonest reviews have you done
0 😀🤟
Almost 1
Could a teenager be able to use this drone
Yeah I would think so as long as they have a bit of sense
@@MrWildWales he has a little bit of sense about him lol as all teens do. He really loves flying drones n the one he has gets blown away by the wind so I'm looking for a more stable one
It's rated 14+ yrs on the box. I'm 55 and it's a bit to remember but with practice can be accomplished.
I loved my HS720 till the controller stopped syncing up but HS did send me a new one that i flew for 3 months but then it just flew away in ever-growing Circles and only god knows where it is.
next I got the HS720 G I did not like that at all NO LIGHTS 1BATTERY And you had to use the app the calibrate and it was wonky i did not Trust it sent it back and now I got the HS720E it flew once ok then i fired it up today and it takes off to the Left controller does nothing but land it SO I HAD ENOUGH IT GOING BACK AND ILL NEVER BUY FROM HOLYSTONE AGAIN !!!
Wow nightmare mate sounds like you've been through a bunch of them!
