Mark is a great guitarist. Hes out there fighting to help get people sober. And his sound is very much his own. Ive followed Dante Fox and Great White.
Way underrated guitarist. Hooked and Psycho City are two of my favorite albums, the guitar work is fantastic. And of course you can't mention Mark Kendall and not mention House of Broken Love off Twice Shy. Such a tasty, melodic player.
Man house of broken love I’m has some of THE VERY BEST guitar work ever put to record in my opinion. That song is an absolute classic and it just flows so so well, marks intro and playing through the e the thing is so so good . The emotion , phrasing , note choice , bending and vibrato are as good as it gets .. such an amazing player who got lumped in and somewhat lost on the mix amongst all of the shredders on the scene at that time .
Been a huge fan since 1985. Great interview, thank you. Great story about Don at the end. That's why these interviews are so damn cool. It's the obscure facts that I find most fascinating
I agree. The audio may not be great, but it’s a wonderful piece of history. Especially for diehard fans. Glad it’s not gathering dust in an unknown archive. Would be a shame.
Mark is awesome, believe it or not, he was the reason I bought a guitar and actually bought my Kramer Nightswan ( I still have it!). I actually had a chance to see them play just before all this sickness started shutting stuff down.
Mark should release an approved version of the early Dante Fox days if he can. I listened to the version mentioned in this interview and from a fan/collectors perspective it is golden.
I found a cassette at a grocery store titled "quiet riot the Randy Rhoades years" some of the songs had guitar solos that Randy ended up using on the Ozzy albums it's cool but some of the songs were not real good that's why they weren't getting signed in the early days.
Great White were a fantastic band -- in my opinion, one of the top bands -- from the 80s (and beyond) but that terrible accident with the nightclub fire in 2003 will always be a part of their history. I don't follow them anymore because without Jack Russell I'm not interested (I don't care for Mitch Malloy or his blinding white teeth). I understand that having Russell as the singer again and releasing new material is probably never going to happen because of their past history. Actually, probably best to just let it rest at this point and let their catalog speak for itself. The first album clearly didn't represent them as they tried to be heavier than they actually were. Once they settled down they developed their sound... catchy and melodic hard rock that didn't sound like anyone else (at least that is my impression). They are one of the few bands who had hit songs that were on the long side as far as radio is concerned. About a year ago I started listening to them again and have continued ever since. Walking on the treadmill or driving for an hour or two, Great White definitely gets into the mix. They would be in my top ten list for 80s (and 90s) bands (which list would also include Dokken and Ratt).
I don't understand why they get so much shit for the fire accident,it wasn't even Great White,it was actually Jacks solo band,Mark played the show and let Jack use the name to help sell tickets,so to say that "Great White started a fire in not entrely true.
I've never understood the Don Costa thing. I've heard the cheese grater story a bunch of times over the years but I've never heard him play. I understand showmanship, but wrecking your hands doesn't make any sense. Then it occurs to me, it's 40 years later and I know who he is.
I think Mr. Mark Kendall aka Mr. Great White himself is a liar or just mistaken altogether. Because back in 2008 there are interviews in which Jack and Mark clearly talk about plans to release this old Dante Fox material and it never materialized until 2019. But it was going to happen. And guess what, when Mark talks about threatening a lawsuit to Cleopatra/Deadline that is fishy as well. Because Cleopatra just repressed a second pressing of albums and cd's for purchase in 2022 of this title. Now if they were doing something illegal the first time around, do you honestly think they would repress it and do it again with a lawsuit pending? I don't think so. Sometimes guys talk out of their asses or lie to create publicity for themselves or their material. Personally I absolutely love this band from 1978-84. This cd of awesome demo quality SLEAZE GLAM music and their self titled first album (The Real Black Album) are classic masterpieces in my world. They nEVER EVER came close to being this good in the studio again. Because we all know the sellout direction they took from '86 on with Shot In The Dark. They toned it all down and churned out loads of covers and derivative blues instead of metal. They were trying to chase the mainstream rock/pop masses and obviously it worked for them by circa '88-'90.
Ozzy was a FOOL for not taking Lynch he's LIGHT YEARS BETTER than Jake. And more in line with the Rhodes stuff which was the best two albums Ozzy has done to date.
@@thebeastieboys2900 I think U are 100% right because if U listen to the producers of the Dokken albums George don't play any bullshit and if he don't like U he will certainly let au know. He's not the easiest person to work with but in the filthy music business that's how U have to be and I know this first hand it's a rip off bullshit satanic business.
Mark is a WAY better guitarist than mick Mars cmon now man… I love mick , he was instrumental in motley’s success and cranked out some of the best riffs ever , but Mark was in another level as far as his phrasing and solos and feel. Unmatched
two shit bands nobody knows or cares about obviously look at your views. Who listens to Great White now. Priest Maiden Sabbath Beatles Elvis great white Who the f is dante fox . Could you do something on Jag Panzer a metal monster. Ample Destruction a metal masterpiece that is underrated.
Full in Bloom Never anything less than fantastic.

The live version of Babe I'm Gonna Leave You from the old MTV days is freaking amazing.

Great guitarist very tasteful and melodic
Agreed. Also enjoy listening to his interviews as well
I hope Mark and Jack can mend fences soon...

He shouldn't be too down on the release. The sound quality of the release isn't great, but the music is pretty good.

Got to spend some time with Mark and the GW guys when I photographed a few GW shows. Some of the nicest guys on the planet

Cleopatra Records usually does DIY Punk/Hardcore bands. They're used to releasing lo fi demos haha

Saw the original line up when they toured in the 80s "the great whitesnake tour".......what a blast! Take me back to the 80s!!
Nobody was expecting a “great recording” it’s some fine history of the once great “Great White” which is no longer intact.
There is a book out about Wasp with a Gary Holland interview in it and Yes Gary was in Wasp but they were called Sister again right before Wasp.
What book?
@@Lordhumongus The book is called "Sting in the tail "

Yep they were called Sister twice Sister, Circus Circus then Sister Again then Wasp
That story about Don Costa's transformation into "Satan" had me roaring with laughter.
Metal rules

Together they are greater than the sum of their parts.
I saw Costa with Ozzy in 83,, monster bass player! Hope he's doing well..

I'd love to hear early Great White with Tony Richards beating the shit out of the skins
How much could you sue them for? Couldn’t have sold more than a few hundred
Mark makes beautiful music with a gutiar....
They need to get jack back in that band,, you can't replace his voice and it's obviously not working without him.
Mark was a step down from Mick Mars. And the singer is named after a dog.
Dude you can’t even play!

Haha you’re the minority here bud .. why comment on a rock and metal page when you hate the music ? Great white is one of the best
