Such a great band. My band instructor used to play recording of them before school and during jazz band rehearsals to show what the charts we were playing were actually supposed to sound like. The level of musicianship across the board in this band was insane.
I had the great honor of playing for Rob McConnell when he guest appared at the University of Akron. My director was the great Roland Paolucci. What a great night! We played Darn That Dream. the Birth of the Blues and Fred.
Absolutely fantastic session orchestra lead by the most excellent composer arranger Mr. McConnell, featuring the wonderful Canadian players. This is an extra special feature filmed at the Metro-plex television sound stage in Toronto. 5~stars all the way.
RIP Guido. 1937-2023. What a legend.

RIP Mr Rob McConnell.....fabulous big band. Check out his direct cut double LP from 1978.....superb rendition of the Porgy and Bess Suite by Gershwin.
