My notes as a diamond 1/2: Play back post alot and be last man. If someone is aerialing, let the man on the wall go first and force a mistake If your the last man on defense, shadow defend.
I think this video is very helpful for people who are more offensive. You mentioned how you'll move up from gold to diamond quickly from defense. I can confirm, I got to diamond strictly by being good at defense and patience, and having no mechanical or offensive skill at all (I didn't know how to half-flip, wavedash, fast aerial, flick, shoot off the wall, double touch, air dribble, ceiling shot, not give away possession with clears, actual rotation, how to not go boost over ball, etc). Now, I'm trying to catch up my mechanics to my rank and sit at D3/C1 one year later and can do all of the above with some sort of consistency. The reason I'm not higher is because I sacrificed my patience, and I am trying to bring that back into my game now. Great video CBell. P.S. My Esports roster is currently using yours and Wayton's videos the most for improvement. Thank you for providing insightful quality content to the community.
Hey man, don’t downplay being a golf pro! That’s a super cool job and you have to be pretty good to run a course. Recently found you two or so weeks ago and love all the content, keep up the good work!
Mastering the training pack 'uncomfortable saves' is 100% what got me from plat to diamond. It also taught me how to air roll which i barely used before. So practicing defense is definitely worth it
I definitely needed to hear this. Very Classy Presentation as well. Loved How You explained all the factors that were happening in each of the example clips. I Died at 6:21 xD Keep up the Awesome Videos!
I've played for just over 2 years now and I'm a 1700 gc. I've always been defensive minded when playing sports, so naturally when I started playing rocket league this mentality followed suit. Early on, I used custom training for aerials, awkward over the head long shots, save direction and reaction time. In my first season I ended on plat 3 in 1v1, and dia1 in 2s and 3s. Now I realise how pivotal that mindset was to ranking up fast early on!
This is so true. When I realized I could just hang back and make a "good" clear, I went from plat 2 to dia 3 in just a couple weeks. Thing is, now I'm struggling to hold on to Champ 1 because of how much better everyone is with their shot placement and challenges.
I used to play 3s with my friends A TON and I scored a 90% on the all star goalie in silver (now at gold but I play console) and they made me goalie for all the games but now I can save more shots so yes it does help.
You know what could help too? Buying a monitor or a television with low input lag. Made a huge difference for me (now c3 on xbox). Most undiscussed disadvantage for console players
Well I guess this explains why I ranked up. Like I hit champ with far inferior mechanics than the other fellas in my games and all I could do to explain was "I play it safe and don't douple commit". Been trying to play 1's for getting better and more consistent with mechanics, but it's a whole different kind of animal....
@Cbell I've only been playing rocket League a few weeks and you and a few other creators have helped me so much in a short period of time. It feels like it gives me a unique perspective on learning rocket League that many would share if it were presented correctly. I've come up with a idea for a video that I feel you might appreciate. Asking nothing of it, just would like to share it with you. I feel like it will help base players in reality and might help guide them to focus on the basic things more heavily. I think it will humble gold-diamond players and help them realize they aren't as good as they are think they are. One sick play doesn't make them consistently capable, and consistently is the most important aspect of any skill. It's a couple training techniques I used to help humble myself. Me being the general player who doesn't play on PC and doesn't want to download and research a million training packs to get better. It's all done through everything the game hands you on day one. Doesn't even require internet connection. As basic as it comes but humbling to even diamond players Let me know if you're interested. ♥️
Maybe I'm weird, but I get more satisfaction off a good save than a good shot. I love playing midfield and telling my teammates that I got it and absolutely stuffing someone while they try to boom it to our side. Love intercepting a pass because I read it sooner than their teammate. Most of all, being able to lure out double commits with good shadow defence and recovery, and watching my teammate beam the open net that results. I do enjoy scoring, but something about defence just gets me riled up more than offence. For reference I'm c1 solo standard, and regularly Skrim with high champ and gcs. I'm in a tourney now against some 1600s and my teammate is 1725. Last time I was in this tourney I placed 3rd.
I’m only at plat 2 div 3 and when I first started playing in 2018 I was all about offense and I ranked at silver 1 but when I started playing again after it became free to play I became a defensive player and I placed gold 3 but after working a bit more on some offense I got to my current rank of plat 2. In conclusion, if you focus on learning defense then you will rank up higher.
In gc gameplay, there is less shots because of the defensive pressure they put on the opponent. They never leave space, and when they do shoot it’s on point more often. So they have to save the shots. That’s probally why their saves are so high.
Hey cbell, i love your content. Im d1/d2 and that because i have a c3 teamate pushing gc, i watch so many tutorials, and i wish that one day i could beat him in a 1v1. He tells me that, he has been playing since 2015 and i only took the game seriously in 2019. But i know its not how much time i have played(200 hours on pc) but how i spend that time. Im silver 3 in ones. And im fully aware of the fact that my rank represents my skill. Unlike my other freinds in gold saying they deserve idk plat(we know those guys) and i want to improve. The fact is no matter how many tip vids i watch i dont see improvement, this is because i dont take everything into consideration. My freind(c3) beleive my mechanics are alright, this is cuz i can air dribble "consistently"(i wish) and flip reset. I can double jump aeriel since my freind said that i should only work on those. And while i do stuff like half flips and wavedashes, i dont think that my gamesense is anywhere close to dia level im d1 in 3s, p3(usually d1) in 2s. But i want to know. For a silver player in diamond, with those mechanics listed above(only reason i have better mechanics, at least my freind says, than the typical s3 player is cuz i was in d1 in 2s, so i had to adapt.)what gamesense wise do you think is most important for pushing, lets say plat, in 1s for a silver 3, and what would be good for a diamond in 2s(btw my freind is a solo play sorta guy, and i think team play would work, but i am lower rank so he dont really listen, also when hes mad he can blame me for when he deranks to d3)what would help me push to champ, by the way if you think that those mechanics are whack then please feel free to tell me what to work on, i just want to be able to play like him- i dont like feeling like the reason he is falling behind- so in short what would help me get to his level. Super sorry for the long comment btw. Have a great day!
Just started playing again a couple weeks ago after around 2/3 years off. I have absolute crap mechanics, made it into gold 3 in standard and keep ranking up because I'm just sitting back on the defense while my team mates just chase the ball. It's so strange because I know I can't really play but I keep ranking up.
I’m High C3/GC and I’m almost certain that my teammates don’t have a clue where our defending net is... I wouldn’t be opposed to a hard reset to fix this inflated GC problem.
Yeah the intro stretched longer than I wanted it to but the number explanation was definitely necessary. hopefully it helps you rank it up this season!
Zacharie St-Georges yeah someone else has also told me that coincidentally😂. I’ve now learned to adjust to my teammate and play to win not so do flashy things. I’ve stopped solo queuing now and I rarely solo queue. Thanks for The advice🙏🙏🙏
Shit man I didn't know your a golf pro. I was a 13 handicap start of this season, and now 6.6. I wish I could improve at rocket leauge like I have golf. Been hard stuck at c1/c2 for like a year now
Unfrotunately this is the last video for the time that I'm gonna be capable of lwatching at the same time with the rest while commenting and liking all of them, chrome is eating around like 8GB of my RAM . Quality content 80000% liking and commenting watching all videos all the way thry at the same damn time this please needs way more subsm
I'm in plat 2 and i actually prefer having good goalies over good offense I'm often trying to be that solid defensive player but sometimes I'll be going from defensive to offensive and like you said some tm8s are indeed sweaty ball chaser and the moment my offense gets intercepted no back to defend and i always feel like it's my fault because if the tm8 was in my position we wouldn't have been scored on
I have one problem tho im gold 3 in 1s was plat 1 and i would probably get that many shots a game but im too trash to hit any in the net so i lose the ball put my teammate to his defense skills and get scored on all beacuse i dont like know the proper way to train
0.9 Saves per game at gold Casually goes to the game I had to play goalie almost the whole time because my teammate was playing for the other team- 13 saves lol S u f f e r i n g

corner defense: 4:53
ground/shadow 6:30

For 3s?

Do all-star goalie training until you can consistently save all shot 3 or 4 times in a row, WITHOUT missing once
That helped me alot
"Assume ballchasers". That's what I did 4000 hrs ago. That's still what I do today. My mechanics are shit, but at least I'm aware of what's going on.
You know what happens when you assume... You make an A out of you and... BALL!!!

Am a champ 1 player who has no flashy offensive plays, cant make a backboard read to save his life. But defense carried me through all the mid ranks.
great video man, defense is way underrated.
for sure! thanks for the kind words and I'm glad you enjoyed it
This is straight facts I got to champ 3 by improving defence
Great video! Keep it up.
Thank you and hope you learned something !
@@CBellRL Yeah, I'm exactly the Gold Player you described in the intro... Guess I will start working on defence now :D
Another quality vid great stuff !!!!
This guy is insane!!!
Great video super family friendly would recomend to all my friends!

thanks man!
I manage a golf course as well. I spend almost all of my non work hours on Rocket League.
Awesome video! Thank you!
Very good guide, theres nothing when you search defense in rl , anyways. Longtime fan ! And im trying to grind to GC!

i already do all of these things, but it is nice having defensive strats shown off. people need to understand theres more to the game than offense. :)
Thanks for the tips!
I felt this will help me so much, thanks dude

Well now you made a video those stats will change and it will be harder to rank up this way!
Just started playing again a couple weeks ago after around 2/3 years off. Yeah the intro stretched longer than I wanted it to but the number explanation was definitely necessary. hopefully it helps you rank it up this season!
Me in gold 3-plat 2 getting about 10 saves per game cause I always solo queue with bad teammates😭
Stop blaming your teammates, just try working on yourself without trying to win the game by yourself
Zacharie St-Georges yeah someone else has also told me that coincidentally😂. I’ve now learned to adjust to my teammate and play to win not so do flashy things. I’ve stopped solo queuing now and I rarely solo queue. Thanks for The advice🙏🙏🙏

great video!
defense is very flashy when u aerial in silver and crossbar out the ball from inside your own net and it flies into the opponents half.
In 1 day I watched a couple of your vids then in 1 day I went up from like silver 1 to like gold
Quality content
