How to make an OUTDOOR SOFA
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 жов 2024
- This DIY sofa can be made with basic power tools and a welder in less than 8 hours. Modern outdoor sofas can be quite expensive and this project can provide a more affordable alternative. I made this couch out of 1-1/2" x 2" x 1/8" steel angles and cedar 2x6s, and some outdoor sofa cushions that I bought from Home Depot. It is a sturdy DIY sofa that can works well inside using the slim cushion from the Simple Cushion Company:

I love this project, but it would be nice to have some small side tables for drinks and what nots. Same gist tho. With a few chairs similar to this couch/love seat you could have a complete patio set that we could customize to our own color palette and needs.
This is one of my favorite designs for couches you have done.
Great video Ben. Thanks for this idea.
Love it, the metal frame with cedar looks great on its own. Nice project.
yes! the 1.5" cedar fits into the angle steel nicely!
I don't know why I haven't learned to weld yet. It's a really slick-looking design and looks comfortable. How did you determine what angle you wanted the back to be?
welding can be intimidating but the materials are pretty inexpensive and it enables such sleek projects with just an angle grinder and a welder
Yep, Angie - I keep thinking the same! I reckon I'm going to try brazing first, cos the equipment's cheaper and simpler, and it IS possible to braze aluminium and steel - although not nearly as strongly as welding!
If you see my post after yours... I said that most cities now have DIY build guilds that for $20 a month people can show you and they have the gear
I’m a complete noob to welding, but I really want to try it one day. What kind of welder do you use? Is that MIG?
I love that you are using steel. I like the simple, sleek design and I prefer the continuous cushions. P.S. I am not intimidated by welding, but to be honest, I would probably use one of our automated welders. I have become lazy, complacent and spoiled that way. Good project.
Thanks for watching!
Nice job. And I always love listening for the “fruniture” :D @4:27
Very nice. I can definitely see those metal supports selling as a diy kit.
I especially like, that the bench looks just as good without cushions than with. Always a bonus, if outdoor furniture doesn't look 'sad and neglected', when it's not in use.
Thanks 👍
Killed it again, Ben! I hope Semi-Exact can put these into production! I'd absolutely purchase them to create outdoor sofas.
awesome! thank you!
I made this. Thanks for the inspiration
Damn man! That is so nice! I bought a welder a couple of years ago, and have yet to use it. This year will be the year!
welding is fun!
Great video. Love these metal projects. Very clean design. Mahalo for sharing! : )
Thank you! Cheers!
Those cushions look GREAT!
thank you!
Very nice job. Really nice design. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Weld on. Fab on. Keep making.
Thank you! Cheers!
Another amazing diy project! Makes me want to take up welding again after ~40 years…
There is no way I wouldn't add a middle support. Maybe when I grow up and become as talented as you.
that's why I love DIYing you can add as much support as you see fit!
Love it! Thanks for coming up with simple and sleek designs.
Glad you like them!
Nice! I was thinking of something similar using square tubing, but I like the look of the angle steel! I bought the same Forney welder after seeing you use it on the Container house.
steel tube would be cool! I was thinking about trying with 3"x1" rectangular tubing
@@HomeMadeModern that would look great! Did you prep the metal before you painted it, to get the mill scale and rust off?
Please make some outdoor cushions
Made it look easy!
it was mostly easy I think the trickiest part is cutting the notches for the rectangle frames
Wow! Incredible. Exactly the design I am looking for. Anyway to make this with a Chaise or a corner Sectional?
Thanks for the great 💡! If you don't have a welder or don't know one that has... many cities now have DIY places that have metal, wood, and even upholstery shops. The one near me has a $20 per month fee and people to show you ie. How to weld. If f you're living next to a farmer; most have welders. 🍻👍
Thanks for the info!
Very creative, nice work!
Thank you! Cheers!
Love the look!
thank you
Hello sir. I love this design. It's perfect for my garden situation where termites eat any timber placed directly on the ground. I've been looking at the drawings etc. but have a question... According to the diagram, the seat is only 11 inches above the ground which seems really low for a seat. Is that correct? Is there a reason for that?... Like to account for the cushions that will be on the top of it? or am I missing something? thanks heaps. Loving all of your designs, ideas and style, BTW. Thanks for all the inspiration!
Super good 👍👍👍👌
Thank you very much
Looks nice but what about sideways movement? Usually you would have another brace coming from the sides into one of the slats.
I thought about that but the backrest provides enough lateral stability
Love this! 🔥🔥
thanks Shane!
Mr. I am Parveen Sharma from India, I really like your project, while I do not have any experience in wood crafting or wood work, but I want to learn it for which I have neither money nor any option. I want to ask you that will you help me in learning this and taking material
Hey nice work.
How can i get the drawings those in the decription seem to be unavailable. Thank you
These are great but kinda miss that DIY small projects, IKEA hacks so on.

I would appreciate the angles od the cuts.

and tell Semi Exact that you want to see this as a product: instagram.com/semiexact/?hl=en
1x2 box steel with mitered corners would have looked better for the bases.
Interesting!
Glad you think so!
Are you guys in NY? I need your services for my lids rooms two boys, 13-7 and a baby girl 1. I live in Harlem NY. Please advise where I can contact. Thank you.
Which welder do you use?

Don't weld so not much reason to watch this video. If you decide to sell the parts already cut & welded then maybe I'd be interested! But thanks for sharing.
I understand andI sent the design to Semi Exact and they are working on it!
@@HomeMadeModern it appears to be a sturdy simple design. But my building skills (& tools) are more lumber based. Keep me posted if they come on the market or produce another video demonstrating how to use the pre-fabricated parts! 🙂
I did this in full wood, no metal supporters and look amazing in my garden
Have you considered using plug welds where it might be tedious to grind.
I don't mind the grinding :)
