You legit saved me. I couldn't get it off for the life of me. I even tried those stupid oil filter plyers and nothing. This worked like a charm. Thank you soooo much
Bro if you can’t get that filter off with filter pliers then you should try trying harder, it literally takes more effort to hammer a short driver into it and then try to break loose something that was already stuck, with no leverage. Work smarter not harder
Been there done that the can sheered off the top! I then had to grab channel locks and almost messed up the oil pan and threads because of it! This is not the way to do it ever!
@justsomerando8206 it almost messed mine up as the shop that had changed the oil prior to me owning the vehicle didn't lube the gasket, it sat more than it drove for a decade and was put on with an air gun. I quit getting oil changes at a shop unless I have to and I'm on Vaca because of that. This method would work if it had been hand tightened and seized, but not if a shop did what they did to my old ride.
@@katelynbarrysmith2489 yea i had issues with shops doing that too. Once they torqued my wheel lug nuts on so tight, i had to use a mallet and long wrench to get them off. What jerks
I guess you can do whatever you want it’s your vehicle. But how cheap it is to buy a oil filter remover from say Harbor Freight’s why take a chance on causing damage to the oil pan. They also make metal cap that fits over the filter and use your half inch drive to remove the filter. I get it. use what you have when you’re in a pinch. Not saying you’re wrong just another way to remove it. Best of luck to you
Get the oil wrench pliers.. much easier to remove. For best results make sure to change ur oil on time or else the filter gets overheated and sticks on
Thanks bro ngl I was about to give up cause of the pliers n the thing I bought from Walmart that supposedly works but slips off never thought abt a hammer n flathead It worked smooth
@@kentrnh If you watch your video you still show the shitty way to remove the filter. You loosened it but then you couldn't get the screwdriver out and then you like turned off the video
I went to the local auto parts store (Advance Auto Parts) with my new filter and picked an oil filter wrench that fit off the rack. It cost about $10. I will use it for future oil and filter changes. The wrench is not as messy as punching a hole in the filter. It pays to have the right tools for the job.
Old news, but eh guess for the ones that finally start changing their own engine oil instead of the shop with their overpriced services for what not to do. Just go and buy the proper tools, it won’t cost you a fortune and saves you time. Buy once, cry once
Tried this awhile back and it did not work the screwdriver ended up turning through the oil filter. I had to remove the whole assembly and order a new one. I swear they fucking welded it on 😡😡😡
This works if you’re super careful, desperate, and in a pinch but JC yall just buy the CTA oil wrench you use with a socket wrench. It’s a few dollars more and it’ll be a friend for life! 😊
I might have to do this next next weekend although it’s negative whatever in Colorado right now so maybe that’s why my oil filters not coming off today so I might have to do this next weekend when it’s supposed to be 40.
This is the wrong way to do it cuz once you've punctured the hole and find out you still can't get the filter off then what do you do Never take advice from somebody old enough to be your kid when he hasn't been driving long enough to have any abilities or knowledge
Jesus Christ...there really are a lot of stupid people out there. 1st, for not thinking about getting leverage to turn a smooth ,soft metal, slippery cylinder shape by using a bar through the middle to get it off. And 2.....for thinking its "an amazing idea". Get a filter wrench people...or at least 2wrenches and some rope/tow strap/or an old belt and twist😂😂😂😂
NOOOOO! Don't ever do this! That screw driver will go right through your upper oil pan, and you will cost yourself lots of money. Just use the right tool!

@justsomerando8206 I've seen those too! Even with a 10 foot bar on mine I sheered off 2 bolts.
I’m telling ya man that a good way to rip that can in half then your sitting there cussing and mad having to get it off the stupid way.
Hammer until u knock a hole into the oil pan behind it and now you can drain your oil twice as fast ! Now that’s efficiency
Listen to this guy and you're going to wind up pounding your screwdriver right through your oil pan
It was previously done by jiffy lube. Those dudes tight the crap out of filters
Harbor frieght. Oil filter pliers, like 9 bucks...... never had a problem with those
I tried it today I was dealing with a stuck oil filter watched your video and it worked thanks I appreciate the vid 😊 two thumbs ups
Mine is way more stuck. Tried that, no movement whatsoever, just tore it all to hell😤
Just saved me thanks

Worked; but had to shank it a couple times because of the little space I had but eventually it came off; saved me a trip to the store; thank You!
Glad it helped
Thanks a lot for sharing this. I tried it and it worked!! Thanks again
We in crocs and we get shit done 🙏
Used a stubby and it worked perfectly!! If you’re worried about puncturing the pan
Thanks dude, worked for me!

Man, thank you soooo muchhh!!!!
Thanks!! It worked!! I was getting very worried.
As long as you have the space, nothing works better than a plier type oil filter wrench.
I tried that today and uhh well I actually ended up destroying the entire filter and it ripped it half.
currently me, how you get it off ?
That'll work, but be sure that you don't damage anything in the vicinity of the filter.
this wont work for most ppl.. this will just tear the filter apart if its really stuck! dont try this lol just buy the proper wrench
You don’t need the filter. It’s being replaced
did this, real hack for a last resort removal without proper tools
Lol the moment he realized he couldn’t spin the filter anymore because of the screwdriver is priceless
And that he couldn't remove the screwdriver without tightening it back
I got the filter removed lol

A rubber strap wrench is the best tool I've used to remove tight filters.
This is a brilliant idea. But my stuck and mangled oil filter is made of hard plastic, not metal!!!

I use a g-clamp tighten it down then twist , flattens part of the filter but you are not going to re use the filet so it’s fine

That would work great if you have the room. Unfortunately this won't work on about 90% of vehicles.
Or buy a $5 tool to remove it. I seen someone do this with a screwdriver, now they are paying thousands to replace a punctured oil pan!
How on earth do you puncture your oil pan

You can squeeze channel locks onto it. Don’t forget to put oil on the rim before you put the new one.
Well it sure did save me in a pinch! Just try to anticipate where screwdriver will land before having to readjust.
He's a Boeing engineer.
Once had an oil filter on so tight I tried this shit and snapped the screwdriver in half 💀
Thank you so much bro.

Try it by hand first obviously
Done it this way all my life but, I prefer a wrench tht only works half the time
The next video will be him drilling a hole in the radiator support to get the screwdriver 🪛 out.
I learn that from my uncle , about 40 year's ago , i'm 54.....PR
He didn't show the part where he removed the radiator to pull out the screwdriver.
Lol I'm sure he just turned it back to where he punctured it and hand twist it off.
Guys I work with over tighten filters all the time so I started installing with a breaker bar. FTNG!
Beat tool is a pair of channel lock pliers no mess
Until you tear your filter and it's stuck on the vehicle that you can't drive
They sell oil filter sockets so you don't have to do dumb shit like this. You can even rent them if you don't plan to keep it. They're less than $20.
😂😢😅😂 Thank God.
For this video l o l five minute oil change turned out to be two hours because I couldn't get to filter off
Just be careful not to hammer it through the oil pan too
Is your video mirrored? Cause your going clock wise
Of course Valvoline did it they tighten oil filters with the force of god, coming from a former Ford tech who’s taken off May valvoline filters
The belt works everytime
I did it but on motorcycle but the other end of the flat head took chunk of metal from the engine
Next video how to remove stuck screwdriver
Yea what if that doesn’t work?

Who put that filter on?
Thank you!!!

If this works the filter wasn't that stuck. You will stop doing this the day the screwdriver rips the filter apart completely fucking you!
How do u get the new one in if u got no tools?
You always hand tight the filter
That awesome
Working with a ring on scares me
