- Picked up my R5c a few hours ago, this is just a quick unboxing and my first impression of the new cinema camera from Canon.

just a minor correction: "This is an R5: in photo mode, all the same. exactly the same" - NO it is not. The R5 has IBIS. The R5C does not.
Nice to get a kiwi perspective on this, I’m going to keep checking to see if you like it, I’m toying with the idea of getting one.
HOW IS THE BATTERY LIFE? THINKING ABOUT GETTING ONE BUT HEARING HOW THE BATTERY DOESN'T EVEN LAST 40 MINS SCARES ME
I did a test yesterday and got 55mins shooting 8k raw, so its not bad but the nice part is the fact you can power from a USB PD battery unit. Will do a test in 4K XF-AVC and few other modes and see what happens with the battery
@@DarrylCarey oh wow if you got 55mins from 8k then you should be able to get a longer time using 4K.
@@TwinCityTV1 just doing some testing with 8k, 6k and 4K video to see how long the battery lasts! Will get a quick video up in a couple of days

The R5C hasn't been released yet... how did you get yours? Canon USA and Canada have pushed the release back to end of April... and you just picked yours up! ha That is awesome. 👍 Congrats man! I have been waiting for mine. Not sure why Australia got theirs early, but that's great! Thank you for making the vid!
You mentioned some other cameras you own, I own those as well (R5, C70, R3, Komodo ST). Nice to see someone else addicted to gear. 👍

Hey James, I know Australia had a problem with the first shipment of R5C but as far as I know the NZ units are fine. Nice to know someone else is using the same gear, looking forward to testing the new ST Raw on the C70. On a side not I found the R5c shoots 6K raw HQ mode in S35…. Which is a nice match for the Komodo
James, B&H is still showing a shipping date of 4/4. Where did you hear that the release date was pushed back to the end of April?
@@kenross6028 Spoke to a Canon rep, not a salesperson. I am hoping he was wrong.
@@ourbellalife I’m pretty sure the Rep is wrong or B&H & Adorama would have changed the date by now. They’re both still showing a 4/4 date.

You lucky git. Mine is supposed to be shipped on Tuesday. The power bank has to be PD 45W minimum. And the charger .. that one goes way back. Even my EOS 5D Mk3 came with that.
I have ordered the Powerbank that has up to 60w output, so it should work fine. Let me know what you think of the R5c when you receive it …
@@DarrylCarey I've been shooting Panasonic GH for video for years, because the limitations in the Canon line-up (alone that 29m59s limit) were useless. But I did stick to my Canon 5D Mk3 for stills. The R5C was the first, that made sense to upgrade to. Even before having it in my hands, it's evident that Canon blew the goalposts out of the ballpark.

I was surprised when I got the call from the store, I was told April for the R5C 😉. So far I’m very happy with the R5C, its nice having Canon Cinema menu and tools in a small body.

yes 4k24 , 30 and 60 are all hq quality.
Hi does the R5C record in IPB light like the R5?
Hi Sequoia, the file formats are different to the R5 as the R5c is a cinema camera. XF-AVC 10Bit Intra-Frame, XF-AVC 10Bit Long GOP and some other formats
@@DarrylCarey thanks Darryl. Do you know if the 4K 120fps is line skipped or better than on the R5. I have heard some places say it’s better and some say not sure. Also does it have a record limit in that mode? Thanks
@@TheHitchcockBlues @Sequoia Creations I'm editing a video now on battery life in different recording modes and, sadly this video will not have footage of different formats, that's for the next video. But I can tell you the 4K 120 looks better to me and its unlimited (until the battery runs out) 45mins 50sec, which is over 3hrs in slow-mo

Hey Darryl, cool video . I just bought the camera today and i am having problem importing raw .cr3 images to my lightroom apparently it says they are not supported . I have r6 aswell which produces cr3 files too and they work fine . How did it go for you ?
same here. pretty frustrating. You can open them in Canon DPP but really who uses that?

After the Guam photographer and math photographer you must be the richest photographer on UA-cam. Red Komodo, Canon C70, Canon R5C, Panasonics, and a plethora of Leica’s.
And seriously why do you need RAW just to Vlog?
Hi Chloe, hope your well ... Yes 8K Raw would be over kill for UA-cam😉. The R5C will be used mostly for work, B-Cam to the C70 or Red komodo. Could even be a great A Cam, will have to wait and see.

Test the dynamic range
The DR is the same as the R5, not seen any difference.
