Thank you, thank you, thank you! What an excellent diary, superbly written and Richard Briers in the narrator's role with a banquet of guests what more does one need? 5 stars for a few well spent hours of pleasurable listening.........
Great find. Pooter is actually a lot like Richard Briers' character in Ever Decreasing Circles, and I'm glad they didn't dramatise it too much. But - 'Gou-ing'? Isn't that missing the joke? Gowing should rhyme with showing, not ploughing.
I have the book on my Kindle and it’s very, very funny. It shows us how humerous the Victorians were. When I read it I imaging Richard in his Martin Bryce voice.
A delightful comedy of the pretensions of the English petit bourgeoisie of the 19th century. Dickens would not have only approved;but laughed all the way...❤😊...
The book is great - I’ve just spotted the Ken Russell film and now this! I hated the Arthur Lowe versions on BBC radio, he was just boring. Yes we know the narrator is meant to be boring, but Lowe was naturally boring.
Richard Briers..a fine comedic actor whom you can spot in a slew of Brit tv series w a heavy role or two as well. Check him out as the villain on Midsomer Murders.
I first read this in the early 1960s, and have read it many times since. This version is splendid, but a shame that it was abridged and not the whole book as it deserved the extra time.

I come from, and live in north London. Have often gone down Holloway road. I will try and submerge into the world of Cummings and Goings!
Wonderful. A true classic. Thank you for uploading.
Wonderful Stuff.
Some things never change.
Blaming the Hangover on the food and not on the overindulgence of Champagne!
had this as a kid - you have no idea how long I've searched for this... thank you!
I've read this book more times than I care to remeber. Always makes me laugh. Lupin's a trial for Mr Pooter.
I had to stop rereading this too much. I absolutely adore it.
@@spittinchips5175read it again. Then read it again 😂 it's too good
This historical, humorous and whimsical world would have me queing up for a discount ticket. A one way ticket, but, with options to return.
So easy to listen to Richard briers. Very good
I heard this the other day on radio 4 but captain mannerin was narrating it and he was brilliant! I wish I could find that recording, it's gold.

I have it on 2 cassette tapes which is better than this because of Arthur Lowe.
@@veterannz Thank you!
It’s on bbc sounds if you are uk
A true masterpiece,I must've known it the very moment I saw the thumbnail!
Good narrating,, reminds me of 1970s cartoon👌👌

Very enjoyable performances by all the readers. Such a pity, though, that this is not the complete book.

This something lovely about listening to a light-hearted story that doesn't really do much but describe normal life :)
Try the diary of Adrian mole aged aged 13 etc...v good too
It's more than that, though, isn't it? Satirising ordinary life, very amusingly, and celebrating it at the same time.
Really enjoyable listen 👂
OK, I’ve read the book and absolutely loved it. This is good, but how I wish Richard was reading it and there no other voices reading the other parts.
The voice of Rhubarb and Custard.
Very clever! Thank you.
It's a shame that so much has been edited out from the original, has lost much of its comedy,
Increadably funny
I think the recording is much older!
LOOKS INTERESTING I SHALL INDULGE AT MY BED TIME :-)
oh, nice voice but the mic is not much clear :)

I cannot believe you could describe the Arthur Lowe rendering as 'boring'.He is the PERFECT Pooter.
audio advertisments constantly breaking in is too anoying :(
Who are the "great cast of guest celebrities"? I fear Compo is Hardfur Huttle.
A nobody, the irony.
Such harmless joy. Thank you for the upload and the much needed smile.

Those musical breaks are horrifying!
Is this the same two actors that are in ever decreasing circles 🔵 ⚫🏐🌕🤔
