I think these are awesome, this is a substantial upgrade from the previous gen: better case, better movement, better WR, better finishing, way better bracelet and to my eye better proportions on the dial markers and hands. It looks to me that they have just scaled the sizes here to enhance the legibility. Seems like a great reissue and fine price to charge. For me personally I would prefer the more classic sunray dial with a matching chapter ring. I would love to see Seiko riff on this case design and bring back the Gene Kranz sport diver. Thanks Mark for not parroting the lame talking points about how this watch is too expensive b/c the previous 20 year old gray market versions sell for $90 on Amazon. I bought my 7s26 Seiko 5 in 2010 for $50. That doesn’t mean any Seiko that costs more is a rip-off. Things cost what they cost now and I for one am happy to see how Seiko is riffing on these classics. This is a solid everyday piece in a classic size and will give the wearer years of faithful service.
I will definitely get one once street prices come down. Also hoping the Seiko mod community gets behind these, would love a boxed sapphire crystal with good AR.
Came home from Japan this week with the blue SBSA253 (as the JDM model with Made in Japan on the dial, is called there) . Cost 39.000 yen / USD 245. So far I like it a lot! Beautiful dial, very good finish and the bracelet is comfortable and easy to size to your liking.

I get mine tomorrow! Ordered it from an Aussie AD fairly local to me, and immediately sent it on unopened to Jody for his review on JOMW. I have a 7.5” wrist and can’t wait to see it on, given the proportions are close to his new Erebus Ascent model which I’ve preordered. I disagree with preferring 19mm lug width. 18 is fine, 20 would’ve been fine, but 19 is a b****! So few strap options available in 19mm!
I appreciate your effort here. I've had the champagne dial in my checkout basket for days, but just couldn't pull the trigger. This video has tipped my decision scale to go for it. FWIW... I have 18 Seikos and each one was going to be my "last watch". Now, make that 19 watches.😊
Couldn’t be happier with my champagne-dial. Picked it up at a local AD well under MSRP, but the overall quality of the thing is, IMO, untouchable at this price unless you’re buying a Chinese-built internet microbrand with no retail support.
Congrats, i dont have any sunburst dial watch and this seiko i just can’t stop thinking about it but is this dial more cream colored or just plain silver
Just saw these in person. The sand dial has prominent sunburst to it and it’s somehow not showing here. If it was non-sunburst like the black and blue ones, I would have gotten it :(
I own several SNXS and I think the new ones look off. The minute markers are a bit oversized. And I don't like the black outline on the ivory one for example. The price hike is a little bit excessive in my opinion.
not for this price, in fact just ordered the snxs73 at a little over $100 so the value is there. i'd rather go with the seiko 5 gmt at this price point, which i did as well.
Specifications are fine and dimensions are excellent (maybe a 20mm lug width would work better), but this "sporterization" of a 60s everyday-dress style looks too bad for me. Colourwise everything looks mismatched. The price is irrational, as most Seiko prices these days.
It's always funny to me the whole hardlex vs Sapphire discussion 😂 who gives a shit as long as it's not plastic crystals (acrylic) than it's all good... I've never had hardlex crystal break or scratch... acrylic on the other hand is complete garbage and it's what Casio uses on all the sub 40$ watches...but any kind of mineral crystal will do just fine..the toughest watch on the planet -G Shock himself uses simple mineral crystal..and gets the job just fine!! If you like the watch buy it...who cares about the crystal😂
@@shchino134 well if you wear them you will know, I have a few Seikos with glass and they are all scratched up, thats fine for a 50 dolllar Timex but when you are asking 500 bucks for a watch, I expect a little better
I simply can't defend Seiko's entry offerings. What happened to the Seiko 5 you could get for $40 and be happy with? What happened to the true ISO diver SKX line, which is now replaced by Seiko 5 SKX diver-style watches with push / pull crowns and inserts without pips? Mid-range and high-end Seiko are okay to good. The entry level offerings have been cannibalized due to Seiko's desires to move more upmarket. Some say Lorus and Orient feels the void. I reply with meh. This just isn't it. Sorry, Mark. Lovely review nonetheless.
Thanks, but yeah, I mean can't really compare 2024 retail prices on a new release to 20yro models at grey market prices. The Turtle replaced the SKX a long time ago, the 5KX is just a handsome tribute piece that openly caters to dress diver wear.
I think the finishing on these watches is considerably better than the dresskx series. Design wise is subjective obviously but this new release is a step up in terms of finishing everywhere from the hands and indices to the bracelet
@@pk1342 finishing (I disagree btw finishing doesn't look better than the SRPE, maybe the SNXS) is literally secondary to the dial and the dial is objectively uglier than the old version and the SRPE. You can polish up a turd all you want it's still a turd.
@@nwerdscissorhands7475 I feel like what you're saying falls more under the category of design elements rather than finishing. My point is that if the dresskx was made today using the same machining techniques as the new SNXS, that it would look like a most expensive and refined piece. Mirror and hairline polishing, diamond cut indices and hands are all things that are more time consuming and expensive to do and are better looking than the plane jane finishing of the old SNXS and SRPE (which is finished to a higher standard than the old SNXS). I'm sure a colour palette with sunray dials and sans Fauxtina will be on the way shortly, which would hopefully do something to address your concerns.
These are ridiculous. Way too expensive although I assume grey market prices will be less. But the orange seconds hand, contrasting chapter ring, 18mm lugs…no thanks. And I can’t tell but the lume looks like fauxtina which I can’t stand. They should have made it a 38mm case with 20mm lugs, color matched chapter ring and silver seconds hand and non fauxtina lume, I would buy that. It’s funny that “not cartoon looking” was mentioned in the video because cartoon looking was my first impression when I saw these. Even if these come down to $200-$220 like the dressKX, which is what I think they are worth, it’s still a pass for me.
