  • With the holidays fast approaching, people are looking to buy tennis racquets as gifts. What they don’t always know is what the stringers see/do when all those orders come in at once. So, in this video I’m going to be talking about 5 things I noticed after stringing 62 racquets this week alone.

How much of the string is used? In the pack it is 12.2m. I see stringers waste a lot when I give them a reel.
Also, when a racket is not strung properly, what does it mean? Different tension from the target one or inconsistent strokes on your game?

You bring up some good points, especially about gut. If you say you only strung 2 out of 62 racquets using gut, that's less than 5% of people using gut. So other than the professional players I wonder how the other tennis players make gut a sensible choice for the price, around $40-$50 a set? I guess it comes down to the string companies, they still want to give you ALL the options, which is nice of them even though it may not be their bread and butter. It would be interesting just to try it though however your setup.

Poly strings do not last longer than other strings because, while they are harder to break, they do lose tension fast and lose elasticity much faster than other strings. And poly string being stiff due to loss of elasticity can be bad for the arm. Your cert should have taught that.

Many of the newer co-polys have excellent tension maintenance. Restring Zero and Hexa Infinite, for example, can last as long as 6-8 weeks before losing tension and going dead. Many of Wolfy’s Hit Squad are using Hexa Infinite and are bringing their weapons in for restring every two to three months.

most people have no idea what they're doing. the majority of 3.5s are better off using multi, poly in a 115 sq in racquet made for beginners is insane, and you need to string poly at a lower tension than multi. also, who the hell tips their stringer?

My best customers do. I never expect them to but once they do they get better service next time for sure. On the opposite spectrum the certain ones will haggle price like they r still back in their country. 😂 Those r the ones I don’t expect business from cuz there’s no business to be made for no profit.

Don’t most modern natural guts have coating that more or less weatherproofs the gut including damage from moisture?

On average how often were the owners restringing them? Of course depends if the owner plays more often or more aggressive, sure, but on average, after how many hours/weeks/months? Thanks. Cheers from São Paulo, Brazil.

Basic strategy here is to restring based on the number of hours you play a week plus 1.
Meaning if you play three or four hours a week. You should restring 4 or 5 times a year. The poly loses its elasticity during use which creates more load on your arm.
If you are trying to save money I suggest a hybrid setup. Your main string can be anything you want; Alpha, Wasabi, Spin, Square, Rev, but make sure your crosses are a silicone infused round poly. It will prevent “notching” in your mains. Which reduces span back and causes a shortened life span. Couple suggestions; Poly Tour Pro, Caviar, Wasabi X, Synch, hyper G soft…
If you are a string breaker… just play them until they break.
Ps get a stringer, it’s a ton of fun.
