Phil X, you never cease to not just entertain, but impress as well. You not only rock on the guitar, but you could hold your own with just about any of rock's best singers. Why you aren't more well known is beyond me. It certainly isn't for lack of talent, charisma, or passion for playing. You've got all that in spades. But maybe you prefer it that way. Keep Rockin'!
I swear I think teles are the most perfect guitars ever made. I was s humbucker gut for years but I just got my first tele and my playing has taken a huge leap forward just because of the tone. Phil you sound great with teles dude. my fav videos of you are with them
Well, I for one am glad you play to us on youtube and you serve a great purpose of bringing older guys like myself some older rock n roll from the 70s and '80s 90's, etc we grew up within the 70s and '80s and I was in the us navy over in japan from 82-89 and so the world changed on me when I got back to the states. I used to sing wanted dead or alive in a hole in the wall in Memphis, Tenn back in the early 90's. I just recently had time to start learning guitar and playing again back 2 years ago. My parents taught me a little about music in the 70's and 80 when they were going to bluegrass festivals and playing what they could. My life has always been too busy until 2015 when I had heart failure as a truck driver which made me to quit smoking and now my lungs are getting back in singing shape. Well, also I had a single bypass and stints and so I am good enough physically to play music, not really jump around but still play pretty decent right.lol
Props to Phil X from Motown aka the D... You Rock man. I enjoy your Crazy man ways and I have learned A lot from watching and listening to you. Thanks bro and continue to keep it real !! You Mad Man !!! Lol.. U Rock Bro !!
Love The Drills!! Please come to the UK again Phil!! Really can't wait for the new album!! Love that Tele, same age as me too!! '66, a damn fine year!!!
How many of you guys just watched this vids and paused at the first riff to grab your guitar and try it lol I shur did lolllllllllllllll (it's often like that keep on rocking PHILL)
Ok, so now I think I need a Telecaster cause I don't have one in the quiver but then that will be the last guitar I buy... I have a problem, there will never be a last guitar, I think you know what I'm talking about Mr PhilX. 🤣🤣🤣🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸😎
Such a spanky tone out of that Tele, philx1111 makes it sing! Love how Randy looks like he's just rolled in out off the street, still got his jacket on and everything, then just kills it. C'mon with the new CD already fellas. :)
I was hoping in vein that he was gonna break into a ramones song some time during this episode. After looking at his shirt, that's what I was hoping to hear but oh well!
it's actually kind of funny so I'll personally answer. first off... it was never a shop as in the kind of shops you're used to. it was an "appointment only"/locked up tight/ring-the-doorbell kind of place. 2ndly.... there's no 2ndly. the address was readily available to anyone so it was only a matter of time before kids & fans started showing up ringing that doorbell asking to see me. well... I was only there once every 3 months to shoot the vids so it started to interfere with business not to mention FA employees having to see disappointment on the faces of those who traveled from afar. hence the move, secret location & one of the reasons we shoot at a real studio now.
Saw (o)(o)'s at my gig tonite,,Big ol' fake perfect ,mammaries too!! Came home to a new Phil X Fretted Americana vid with some new Drills, great rock & roll & the best sounding Tele i've heard in a long time! I too was born in the late 60's,1968 but i'm afraid i lived a little harder than Phil....He looks like hes in his 20's early 30's at the most! I gotta lot of respect for how he handles success between playing in top tier groups as a hired gun & saving all the fun stuff for the Drills i think its just a matter of time before The Drills blow up huge!! Phil could easily carry a stadium show.& i'm not blowing smoke either,Every song he writes could be a hit! Easily miles ahead of all these hipster dipshits who get signed & dropped in the same fucking year!! That said, keep on having fun Phil;I freaking dig you're stuff man~ Nuthin like some big ol' tiddies & beer & rock & roll!!! Have a kickass amazing day mr X!!!
Hey Phil, you and the drills should play freakshow acrobat after a guitar review, you know how you guys cover songs at end? Well I'd like to hear a more recent interpretation of that song.
i play communication breakdown by playing the bottom of the A and D chords, if that makes sense... i think i saw jimmy do it in a performance in france or something.
Hey Phil, any idea when that new album will be available? I am really liking what you have been previewing so far, can't wait to get to hear the whole thing. P.S. - how about some Big Sugar in the demos….. yeah for Canada !
I wish you guys would release The Drills albums on google playstore, that would be awesome. Even better let us buy FLAC digital version on your website !
Hey Phil... quick question... are you a hybrid picking kinda guy? That first lick you did looked like you were throwing the middle finger in there... Dig the vids.. thanks!
The question, my take on PX's response: It's more intimate, in a performer/audience situation. Not so much a big group scene where faces blend together, but more "individualized" and thereby "intimate" and more rewarding emotionally/artistically if not (like ever) financially. _i am no psych-doc, i just play one on the internet_
Wade Patton And "being a hired gun" often helps give one the freedom to pursue the "small" side. IOW the more you make, the more you don't have to make.
I am amazed how hard it is to actually jam Pink Floyd. It's not the kind of solid guitar pieces you get from Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Deep Purple or even The Beatles in many cases. I don't think Phil learned too many Pink Floyd in his cover band period which means that Phil don't have to many Pink Floyd songs in his "archive". I think I have heard "The Wall" and "Money" though, so I am sure some Pink Floyd will appear again.
So spontaneous person and technic guitar.Amazing.
I swear I think teles are the most perfect guitars ever made. I was s humbucker gut for years but I just got my first tele and my playing has taken a huge leap forward just because of the tone. Phil you sound great with teles dude. my fav videos of you are with them

Phil I never get tired of hearing you play man. Keep up the good work!

awesome Phill!! keep doing what you do brother! you inspire us
I think Phil is at the point as a guitarist, that he can take whatever comes to his mind and transfer it to the fretboard. That is awesome!👍😎🎸🎶
Loving this guitar, and all its Tones!
I absolutely love Phil X Friday.
That thing sounds awesome!!! You're a beast man! Solid!
The Pups on that thing are Too Cool!
Enjoyed this one the most out of all the recent one's think its probably the songs :D
Man, Phil seems to have some chemistry with that Tele, Fucking magic man!

Great stuff. And there's Cooke again, having way too much fun.
Phil X Friday is the only thing keeping me alive.....and donuts...
not a 48 look at all, man YOU'RE AWESOME!!!!
I wish I could hit notes like that Licks like that too. I am now even more sold on Telecasters now. I think I'm becoming conteleverted
The next Phil X signature guitar really needs to be Telecaster-styled: the Xcaster, if you will...
Fender licensed TeleXcaster?
Amazing how Phil is almost 50, looks like 30, and has the energy of a 10 year old with a sugar overdose hahaha
Wow, instantly inspired by the instrument.
I really want to hear a Chapman ML-3 Modern through an Evil Robot and Tone Master! Keep em comin' Phil!!
Holy crap dood....My BD is March 11 :) Rock On!
PhilX is still ruling!
Kip Winger's twin....that's a good thing IMHO...loved the song....
Great demo again, Phil's so likeable (or annoying), but either way, really down to Earth and a top musician...
Rock & roll .Blues rock some metal is best music.
Thank you, +phil1111 and +frettedamericana for adding the Drills sessions at the end of these vids!

Funk master Phil!
Such a spanky tone out of that Tele, philx1111 makes it sing!

Totally sang the bassline for Roxanne.
LOL I was just telling my co-workers about turning half a century next December.
I was hoping in vein that he was gonna break into a ramones song some time during this episode. After looking at his shirt, that's what I was hoping to hear but oh well!

+philx1111 Any updates on this song? Great work. Can't wait to hear the finished product.
More Drills songs at the end. Sounds way better than the cover stuff imo.
just wondering , what happen to the fretted americana shop where they use to shot these videos

You need to do Toad - Possum Kingdom, I heard it in here. LOL
Hows call the song at the opening?
where I can find tablature ¨ I got something to say¨? and setlist of the thrills?
I slightly expected a cover of Hey Jude. Lol.
what was that at 2:30?
I would say From Can To Can't by Sound City players but it is not that song. Close enough though
a beatles tune
I wish you guys would release The Drills albums on google playstore, that would be awesome. Even better let us buy FLAC digital version on your website !
You know nothing, Jon Snow.......J/K, love your vids bro!!!!!!!! Keep Em coming!!!!!

So when's the album coming out?
Great video! What is the track he's playing at 2:17 ? Cheers!
***** New DRILLS song called hard to forget. Phil replied to another question about this and said this.
Yo Phil.
You and that Tele were destined to join minds? :)
Any word on a release date for the new album?
Hey Phil... quick question...
are you a hybrid picking kinda guy? That first lick you did looked like you were throwing the middle finger in there...
Dig the vids.. thanks!
what is he playing in 8:34?
Jenia Z. Use Me - Bill Withers
that's correct. but as in most cases, morphs into just messing around.

so cool you replied! greetings from israel
what song is that at 8:26 ?
Just a number my ass. Have you seen Keith's hands? Just keep rockin.... Love your vids.
Hi Phil does your drummer have funny feelings about the other drummers ?
Do some Wishbone Ash that would be awesome
What was the intro song, need music to drive to.
Y'know, y'just can't beat a Tele through a ripping amp.
What's the song at 2:30 I know it just can't remember the name
Kind of sounds like Seasons of Wither by Aerosmith
Jason Deli Beatles I want you (she's so heavy)
Thank you so much jay
Hey Phil I Was On Your Website And How Did You Torch Your Guitar,Would Be A Cool Video Idea :-)
It's hard to believe Phil X was 2 or 3 when Led Zeppelin 1 came out.
3:26 his face tho
He should do the Gibson Corvus.
Funny how the 66 Strat he did was also candy apple red.
Hey man, the next time you play a strat it would just be great if you play Some Pink Floyd!
Have a nice day!
I thought he was going to play the pretender there for a minute 2:30
Fuck The Police, we got Mr X to do Roxanne! That sounded way better than the original, I mean way way waaaay better!
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat Taylor Hawkins on drums??? What is the Drills Hey Jude song?
What's the song at 4:13 ????
What's the song at 4:13 ?????
What's the song at 4:13 ?????
Dyego Henrique Communication Breakdown by Led Zeppelin
Honestly you haven't aged at all. Can I see some ID?
Phil x should play train kept a rollin
HOW THE FUCK ARE YOU ALMOST 50????
giggs102 clean livin' yo!
Wade Patton Pffft fuck that... fun living for the win!
It's a joke yo. That used to be my line when folks commented on how i don't "look my age"...and was buying a case of beer.
sorry I meant the drills
So many mistake the Telecaster as jusy a country guitar! Phil just proved em all wrong! Ha ha!😂
PHIL X!!!!!!!!!!!!! R u going to south korea? philx1111
