a poor man like me who has no chance for pilot school. Now I can say I found the opportunity to to learning.
thank for the owner of this channel and got bless your family
You’re welcome
Book a flight with a school. They will allow you to manipulate the controls in the air and it does not cost a huge fortune .
1) See & Say - Chair Flying
2) Brain Freeze - Memorize checklist
3) Picasso Pilot - Drawing the pattern & performing procedures as you progress.
Commenting as my reference when I go back to watch the video again.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing. Hopefully someone else can use this too
I earned my PPL in 2019. I wish I found your videos sooner. They are a great resource. I didn’t fly much during 2020 due to COVID shut downs, and have recently started flying again with an instructor, because I’d rather spend a little extra cash to be safer and regain my skills. Your vids help me hone my chair-flying and call out things a pilot should pay attention to prior to strapping on the Cessna. Thanks for producing them.
Thank you! I appreciate that! I’m glad your able to get back into the swing of things!
important to keep in memory items. essential to keep the plane flying safely.
It is amazing how the memory goes blank when in a panic or a rapid reaction is required. (eg engine stops on take-off)
My most important check list is the pre take off. As a double check I will look around the cabin to ensure everything appears in the correct position for take off...I notice immediately for example if flaps not set, or carb heat still on, or only 1 mag is on .
I trained for my first solo in Microsoft Flight sim 1990. It actually worked - I was able fly the circuits in MSFS1990, and reherse all the altitudes, timings and procedures, even trimmimg for altitude and speed. I had carboard mock ups for the positions of the "real" controls like flaps, gear, etc.
That’s super cool. I have noticed that my students who use MSFS already have pretty good hands when they start flying for real
I had to smile about the cockpit poster. It is 2022. You can do a lot without flying the physical Airplane. A VR setup for MSFS2020 will allow you to practice in the virtual world. O.K. for actual Airplane behavior I would still go to XPLANE 11, especially for Helicopters. I had many hours in VR XPLANE 11 before I did my PPL(H) and it showed as my CFIs said. 48 minutes to all controls in a stable hover is pretty good compared to time required typically without Simulator experience. Today, for the price of a couple of flights hours, everyone can have a Simulator that's in most ways superior to professional ones. I still prepare VFR flights to unknown Airports in VR and MS2020, it is amazing how much better you get there and into the pattern. So that's an addition/update to your recommendations in the video I would have.
Thanks so much for your comment! You are absolutely right! I’ve got students that use MSFS2020, and there is an obvious difference in the way they fly and the ones who don’t. It’s an excellent tool. If it saves you one hour of flight time, it already saves you money
I don't know how much all that would cost, but I have zero interest in doing that. I'd use the poster myself. Though I mostly use my imagination which is how I trained for a lot of scenarios when I was active duty.
@@JoshuaTootell well, if you want to fly, the cost of a poster on the wall is as irrelevant as the cost for a Simulator setup. But the one thing doesn't help much, the other helps a lot.
In numbers: I started with a PPL(H) and took full control of the helicopter, for lifting off, hover and setting it back down, after 38 minutes, which constitutes the record in the flight school. When I did my PPL (A), I did it with minimum hours on a complex aircraft, a Cirrus, figuring that this way I don't have to transition later. Compared to a typical 10 hours transition in a Cirrus, or needing extra hours, a Simulator setup is cheap.
A lot of the effect is VR based. Like racing cars, it's important to look at the right things far ahead most of the time, using only peripheral vision for the stuff that's close. That's the key to hovering a helicopter and landing a plane. A poster and imagination don't do much for you in training for side pictures, distance, speed, altitude, etc.
I am pretty convinced it saves you money, I know it saved me money. But as always, your milage can vary 😉
It's also worth noting that you can do all of these in a flight simulator at home.
Works even better than chair flying. A little more expensive than "free" though, but it depends on if you got your start on the computer in the first place or not.
Very true
Three things I dig about this video:
1) I really like the simplistic, no-fancy, bare bones breakdown of some really good homework material along with study practices that, with steady application can seriously improve anyone's flying skills. (especially mine; I can't wait to start)
2) Another huge, multi-ton, planet-sized, golden nugget I got from this video is a really good practically clever homework assignment which not only looks like a fun game, but it can quickly turn into an exciting, playful, brain challenger that will reward players many times over with the skills they'll attain. And it is easily customizable by any user.
3) I will soon, if not very soon, incorporate what I've learned here into my regular learning and study habits and then begin to look no where other than up for my successful progression.
4) I especially like your mention of developing "muscle memory" and more importantly, pacing myself smoothly, suavely, and ever so elegantly in tending to Emergency Situation, et al.
Thank you Jason! I promise that you will notice a huge difference as soon as you start using these techniques. They are awesome
Just on the go around procedure - on my first solo, I was set up to land, and the aircraft ahead was stuck on the runway for some reason - I was instructed a go around by the tower. I had the procedure memorised and rehersed so I didn't skip a beat.
It’s so easy to memorize that one. Thanks for sharing!
I started memorising some of the checklist procedures and radio calls before seeing your vid. I guess this was me self evaluating and trying to improve brain capacity when ‘in the moment’. Seeing your video has added further structure and value; those checklists look good too! Your advice here is top notch and it’s fun to do. Thank you 👊
You’re welcome! Let me know how it helps!
I have been flying since January this year. Been struggling since then with two CFIs that do not know what "procedures" are. I was creating my own so that things could improve for me to learn faster. You just confirmed what i have been doing for a month. However you had brought more stuff I didn't think about. Your method of teaching is the best from all the "youtubers" Embry Riddle and all the other schools I've been studying from. Great job! thanks for sharing and I will be checking all you videos from now on.
That is awesome to hear! Thank you so much for the compliment! It means a lot, and good luck out there!
I think this is one of the most valuable videos you have done (the other one is the 5 weird maneuvers with SETH LAKE). I watched this video early on in my training but did not really have a complete appreciation or understanding of what you were talking about. Now that I am about $9000 into my PPC training I definitely know what you are talking about. The right resources and knowledge at the right time could prevent a whole lot of re-work, unlearning and re-learning. Thanks for what you do brother!
You’re welcome! I really appreciate this comment! I’m hoping to make a couple more videos with Seth very soon!
Ive just started my PPL training in the U.K. so glad I found your channel!
So glad you found me too!
Excellent video , I live in the plane, I always do chair flying
In the plane
I know every bit 🧐🕊️
Thanks!
Just did a Discovery flight and these videos are helping a bunch for coaching me up for my next classes and understanding what I just did.
Awesome! I’m so glad you’re finding them useful!
Can you make like a mini book of all checklists and notes ? You have an amazing teaching style
That’s a great idea. I’ll think about how I could do that. Thanks!
This is sooo good. I have my PPL but use your videos to keep my mind in the game. Plus, some of the things you bring to the table either didn't come my way or didn't stick during my training. I watch your videos over and over.
Thank you! I love hearing feedback like this!
Great, thanks!
You’re welcome
Your videos are incredible. I'm a pre solo student, and this has helped me tremendously.
Michael, thank you so much! It means a lot to hear that great feedback!
Very good >>>>> Thank you

That Picasso pilot trick is SO good! Never heard it before (going for Commercial rating). Thanks!
Thanks! It’s one of my favorites! Good luck on that commercial!
Love these videos and external links… I wish I could subscribe 100 more times…
Thank you!
Really good n easy to understand teaching style n words...students n all levels benefit from ur videos, pls do keep it up... glad I found ur channel. Very professional n nice of u to reply your viewers...very good to see this from an instructor!! Thank you so much!! Be safe, cheers! :)
Thank you! That’s the goal! I’m pretty dumb so I have to have simple explanations. I just thought other people would like them as well!
@@FreePilotTraining :) You are definitely smart...natural professional teacher, students are lucky esp in this important field!! :)
@@user-xy1xi3hd8f thank you!
Awesome!
Thanks!
This was immensely helpful. You should definitely produce more content with this level of detail.
Thanks Jack! You’re feedback is really encouraging! It lets me know I’m on the right track! I will start looking at other video ideas like this one.
So there are differences with pattern radio calls with a tower controlled airport and an uncontrolled field. On an uncontrolled field it's easier to spot any airplane making a turn. On the other side on a tower they will tell you which number you are for the land. Busy airport, may have you call out midfield downwind. And if too busy they'll have you extend your downwind, wait for controller to turn base w/ number to land. See traffic when and which number for the land. Calling final is not have to, follow traffic. Try not to turn final until runway is clear.
Simply wonderful
Thanks!
Thank you for sharing some tips & tricks for passing my PPL exams.
You’re welcome!
This is super helpful, thanks!
You’re welcome!
The perfect video!!! I’ve been in school almost 2 months and this was the most helpful instructions I’ve had. Going to follow this advice. Thanks and yes I subscribed
You’re welcome! Welcome to the community!
Excellent! I like how you explained!
Thank you!
Great videos, very important and practical information, now Im on this situation, my last flight was four monts ago and I`ll put in practice everything you said. Many thanks.
Thanks! Yeah, If you use these techniques, you can still improve without flying
Just starting the journey to PPL this is just awesome. Much appreciated sir. Keep it up
Thanks!
Great content. Will definitely be saving and watching this video again. I am 37 and starting flight school at ATP in The fall. I have some previous flight experience, so this was all familiar, but explained very very well. Thanks!
Thanks Andrew! Have fun with that training!
Really very good
hi, can you do a video on straight and level . thanks
That’s a great idea! Thank you
thanks so much , can i have a look of all your checklist procedure for your student ? ❤🙏
You’re welcome! I need to build a website where I can share all my stuff like this for free
Thanks. I appreciate your videos, training and format. Best of luck with all your future endeavors on the channel and in life.
No problem! Thanks for watching!
So awesome love what you do. I haven't started yet. But looking to real soon thanks.
Thanks Dwight!
Never heard the term, "Cowling on the horizon. " for ago around. Can you explain?
A lot of students tend to pitch the nose up too high. On most planes, you only need to raise the nose until the engine cover (cowling) is even with the horizon. This will allow the airplane to build speed and still climb away from the ground
My wife is Loving these Lessons....
Awesome!
Really good ideas on practice at home. Would have been nice if my CFI told me about this way of developing skills vice learning on flights. Would be good to see some more visualization deep dives and mental framework of pilot development
Thanks! I appreciate the feedback! I’ve got a few ideas for some future videos. I’m hoping to start working on those very soon

So fab.

Awesome !!!!!

I’ve been using your videos a lot, my Checkride is close and I’m about to finish my Checkride prep. But I don’t feel like my instructor is helping me a lot and that makes me feel insecure for my checkride and flight training as a student pilot.I don’t want to change my flight instructor because I think it’s going to delay the checkride. What should I do? Can you give me an advise?
Also, thanks a lot for your videos.Your videos are helping me a lot in the topics that I don’t understand.
So, this is a common problem because instructors really don’t have the time to give students all the actual ground training they need. Usually, they have too many students. Chairflying is by far your best friend to improve your skills, and studying is the best way to improve your knowledge. These videos are a great way to do that
Okay, thank you for the help I appreciate it a lot 💪🏾
Take a pic in your ac and let it print to scale. Looks equal, feels equal, is equal. Don't disturb yourself by co promise panels available. Printing my also be cheaper.
Great idea! I didn’t know how cheap that would be
Is there any place to download your procedure memory aids. To use as a template to build mine?
If you can PM me on Facebook with your email address I’ll email them to you
Would you be willing to share PDFs of the brain freeze aids you use?
Absolutely. PM me on Facebook with your email address and I’ll email them to you
What about using flight simulator and vatsim?
@@rainmaker1011 absolutely! They both help!
@@FreePilotTraining after 20yrs on MSFS I am starting PPL now. Lets see how it goes :)
@free pilot training, do you have the procedure aids you show in the video in pdf form? Would be able to use as starting point for my versions.
Yes, I do. PM me on Facebook and I’ll see if I can send them through the messenger app
Hi, thank you for all your awesome videos! Extremely helpful. Is it possible to get those procedure aids you discussed in the video? Thanks
@@jsummit410 PM Free Pilot Training with your email and I’ll send them to you
At my flight school, we fly 172P and 172N. Do you recommend either checklist from checkmate? Does it have to be specific to the model letter?
I DEFINITELY recommend getting one specifically for your model. There are a few things that are different in the checklist. I hate when instructors tell students to buy a ton of extra stuff. A lot of times, you don’t need half the stuff they tell you, but the checklist is important because you can chair fly through the procedures and get familiar with the steps. And they’re like $15
@@FreePilotTraining I do have a checklist that's in the plane, but that checkmate one seems easier to follow.
@@gavinobrien4520 yes, it is. That’s one of the reasons I like it
Don’t forget the copilot checklist. Sit up straight, don’t touch anything, don’t say anything, hold my Coke.
😂
Would you say in your home practice area it would be best to time some traffic in the pattern to try to help with pacing as well so these are timed out in real world timing?
Yes! I definitely think it’s best to get practice on the radios! Even if your instructor makes all the radio calls, it’s good to be able to start getting used to hearing them
How does my brain not explode with 50,000 things to think about.
😂 brain explosion is a real problem for pilots. They say you only have so many penguins on an iceberg. You have to push some of those penguins off to make room for more. 😂
Funny cause on some UA-cam channels some claim that flying is not as complicated as some might think.
@@ZenithE8 lol, the actual flying of the airplane maybe, but there is a lot to know
@@FreePilotTraining All you do here is Greatly appreciated! It's a wealth of knowledge. Thank you.
@@ZenithE8 thanks!
i feel like with some editing this video could be easier to watch. the information was nice and stuff I hadn't heard before, but the pace was slow and the supporting examples weren't impactful to supporting the idea. Good visuals and b roll.
Thank you for the feedback! It really helps me improve my content
@@FreePilotTraining i make videos too. i'm grabbing flightsim footage as i reteach myself how to fly while i look after my newborn. Hoping to compile it into a video series to get people into flying.
Would you consider sharing your brain freeze content?
Absolutely! PM me on Facebook with your email address and I’ll send some of my main brain freeze aids to you. Eventually I want to build a website to share stuff like that
I want to buy these brain freeze aids 🤔
I’ll give them to you. Message me on Facebook with your email address and I’ll send them to you
