Gestalt is beautiful and fun. But there is a TON of dialogue, and it all ends on a cliffhanger where none of the world building pays off. Which is beyond disappointing.
I LOVED Gestalt and loved building up her skill set, then fighting and defeating the final boss, a great challenge, then to be taken all away in cheap one shot and be carried away by a dude. Man, fuck that ending.
I've spent legitimately hours on Steam and recommendation sites like Mythic Map looking for stuff to play this year and had been feeling like there's nothing but crap out there. This is the first video I've seen on this channel and I added like a half dozen of these games to my wishlist. Really appreciated the overviews of each game too - I feel like I know exactly what they're about without getting anything spoiled. Thanks for a great video!
I don’t hear ANYONE talking about Gori:Cuddly Carnage and that was one of the most fun indie games I played all year. It capture that sophomoric humor that Borderlands used to have but does it better. Just pure stupid fun.
Is This Game Trying To Kill Me? is my #1 surprise hit. Very creative, fun trap room aspects, doesn't overstay its welcome and it even has super secret endings that were fun to figure out.
One of my favorite hidden gems I’ve found on steam this year is Nuclear Blaze. It’s a amazing pixel platform puzzle game! The gameplay is extremely fun and runs great on Steam Deck! It’s one of the most fun games I’ve played in a while. The game is extremely underrated.
I did know most of these, but I guess that's mostly because of this channel. Thanks for all the great game coverage, and looking forward to more next year!
Hey ClemmyGames, you should probably do a video on all the canceled indie games that were on Steam cuz I was checking my wishlist and SO MANY of them had their page taken off.
Gestalt - Enjoyable game but I do agree with the criticisms. I was able to follow the story and enjoyed everything so much I 100%'d the achievements, but towards the end things kinda went off the rails, and the ending was a little bit of a rug pull. Hoping there's a sequel eventually. Karate Survivor - Really cool spin on Vampire Survivors. Being able to use terrain and obstacles is very fun and timing your auto-combos to do the most optimum damage to groups is unique. Definitely give this a try if you're into the genre. Akimbot - haven't played this one but it does look very cool. Love Ratchet and Clank, so this is up my alley. Wishlisted. My Lovely Empress - checked this one out during Next Fest and liked it far more than I thought I would. Frontier Hunter - Played a *VERY* early demo of this one and thought it had promise. DIdn't know it was released, will have to take a look at it. Bo - Love this art style along with Japanese mythologies, so this one's definitely going on my "Metroidvania" list of games to play. Crypt Custodian - Never seen this one before but also very intrigued. Few other games I'm also interested but these are the ones I wanted to point out. Great list.
I highly recommend Kill Knight and Crypt Custodian. High quality stuff. Thanks for other recommendations. I've added Cato and Isles of Sea and Sky to my wishlist. I'm also tempted to grab Karate Survivor as a big Jackie Chan fan.
For all its rough parts, i'm glad to see Blud on here. I'm glad you enjoyed it enough to want to shed more of a light on it. That trailer for Arco was awesome. THe setting seems interesting, don't think the in-game art style has my interest much, but the combat system sounds interesting. Perhaps something like that will become more interesting later on. And Ogu looks simply quite cute and fun. My game of the year is probably Loco Motive. Decline's Drops was fun too as was Magenta Horizon, though Magenta Horizon is too difficult for me as of yet. Judero seemed to be fantastic and wonderful, and PRIM appears good too. Same with the Soul Reaver 1 and 2 remasters. For upcoming DLCs, my interest HEAVILY lies with Cookie Cutter, as well as Decline's Drops. For upcoming games, i've got my eyes set on IMMORTAL: And the Death that Follows, My Familiar, Kraino Rebirth, The Eternal Life of Goldman, Ruffy and the Riverside, WOON, Pillory, Promise Mascot Agency, Bad Boro, Lost in Random: The Eternal Die, The Midnight Walk, The Dungeon Experience, Phonopolis, the new game by the Papetura developers, and... that's all i can think of for now. Thank you for still being here this year, and wish you and your loved ones a lot of good luck, wisdom, health, strength, joy and fortune wherever you can receive, find, make and share it.
Frogmonster is main 2024's hidden gem everybody is sleeping on Lorn's Lure and Isles of Sea and Sky is fantastic, but i think new Golden Idol game is kinda underappreciated, i find it's even better then original
I'm kinda surprised you haven't done your annual big "Upcoming Metroidvanias" video for the next year or "Metroidvania year in review" yet. You always had done them near the end of every year by this point pretty much.
I wish Oblivion Override was on switch… Probably will never happen since apparently there’s no updates or communication from the developers on Discord. That’s a damn shame since it looks amazing but I’ll probably never get to play it
A few lesser known/less appreciated games that for one reason or another stood out to me the year. (to be clear, these are not "best" games, I'm not sure there was a _best_ game for me this year, this is more just a list of games that I appreciated slightly more than others at the time I played them) I've skipped mentioning any of the larger/more popular games that released this year. Primarily for the Art: Daemonologie, Miniatures, & DICEOMANCER For developers achieving what they set out to do: Frontline Crisis, The Hungry Fly, Path of Achra, & Grønland Top-notch gameplay: Intravenous 2, Reverse Collapse: Code Name Bakery, Dominions 6 & Slice & Dice Free: The Thief, the Witch, the Toad, and the Mushroom
Quite surprised that Rebel Transmute isn't on the list. Pretty good Metroidvania with more Metroid and less Vania - which is kind of rare and actually what I prefer.
Frontier Hunter: Erza's Wheel of Fortune is not available on PS4. Every time I watch your videos, and this game shows up, I wonder why I haven't tried to get it for my PS4, to be reminded that it's not available on the PS4, only on the PS5 and PC. Still, I continuously appreciate your videos.
Don't worry about it. I love RPGs (particularly JRPGs) and Metroidvanias. I've probably played through Bloodstained half a dozen times now. Frontier Hunter was awful. No personality to speak of, really janky controls, super paint by the numbers and a weird Waifu kinda vibe with the characters. I'm usually really careful with the games I buy so this was my #1 regret purchase this year.
Sad to not see 1000xRESIST on here. It's been sorely overlooked in so many different lists (even this list of overlooked games) despite having what I think is the best story in games of this decade so far.
God the algorithm is such garbage. I am subscribed, just double checked, and it has been SO LONG since one of these videos has come up in my feed that I forgot about this channel. I subscribed because I wanted to see more of it FFS.
I loved Bloodstained so I was really stoked when I saw Frontier Hunter in the PS store one night since it gave off a similar vibe. I was incredibly disappointed. It has 0 personality. Felt like an AI made it off the prompts SciFi Metroidvania + Otaku appeal.
Crypt Custodian моя персональная игра года. И одна из самых приятных инди игр что я играл. Очень трогательная и эмоциональная история, обаятельный главный герой. Благодаря ей я нашёл ещё одну прекрасную игру от этих разработчиков - Islets. Реальные Hidden Gems в жанре Metroidvania и Zelda Like игр.
Bo is definetly not a hidden gem, neither a metroidvania. It's more of a precision platformer with some metroidvania bs slapped on it just to slow player down and it is far cry from best or even good platformers. Best avoided.
Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus is an ABSOLUTE BANGER. Seriously..... GOTY contender.
good game
Gestalt is beautiful and fun. But there is a TON of dialogue, and it all ends on a cliffhanger where none of the world building pays off. Which is beyond disappointing.

Yes, way too much dialogue for a metroidvania. They don't show you that in the demo lol. Sad to hear how the game ends.
Ugh gonna pass on this one then I can't stand alot of unnecessary dialog... Going to go for nine sols instead
@@peterc504 Nine Sols is amazing. Honestly surprised that it was quite story heavy but the story is good and the combat is great
@@samuel.jpg.1080p I only played the demo awhile back and everything about it felt great. Heard nothing but good things about it!

Eyyyyy Bo Path of the Teal Lotus. Glad to see it get some love
yeah
I absolutely love the combat in Arco and am glad they didn't go the standard turn-based route. Makes it much more unique.
it is unique!

yeah!
I love it when a hidden gems video is mostly games I’ve never heard of! It happens less often than it should! Thanks!
Happy Holidays Clemmy. Thank you for all your quality content!
happy holidays!
Nice list of games. I put a few on my wishlist. Thanks.
Glad you found some gems!

From the creator of Dead Cells!
I did know most of these, but I guess that's mostly because of this channel. Thanks for all the great game coverage, and looking forward to more next year!
Glad you like them!
Thanks man for all the work you do, without you I would be one of those idiots who talk about the lack of quality video games. You're the goat!
thanks for watching!
Ogu and the Secret Forest is such a wonderful, whimsical game with LOTS to do. I love it.
YEAH
can't believe you didn't put "Loco Motive" on the list. that game was fun and the humour was top notch!
Which game would it replace on the list though?
Hey ClemmyGames, you should probably do a video on all the canceled indie games that were on Steam cuz I was checking my wishlist and SO MANY of them had their page taken off.
Definitely a video idea! Which ones were on your list?
thank you so much dude, i love your videos!
You're welcome!

kill knight for me is my indie goty, combat is very well mad, everything tied up
Nice
Nice list, I had heard about Akimbot but didnt know it looked that good.

Phenomenal video. Thank you.
16:39 Yes! Shady Knight ♥⚔🏹🔗🔥
YEAH
Nine Sols is absolutely a top 5 pick. Bo seems pretty similar actually, I'll check that out.

Lorn's Lure and Isles of Sea and Sky is fantastic, but i think new Golden Idol game is kinda underappreciated, i find it's even better then original
Snufkin: So, wasn't my own game included in this?
I randomly played crypt custodian without knowing anything else than it looks pretty in the trailer and I found gold 💌🤟totally loved!

soon ;)
This was a great video where you said a lot about each game. I can tell you also really like games with a distinct art style.
Appreciate the kind words!
Where is Antonblast? Such a well-made game!
soon
My lovely empress and Dungeon Tycoon ended up in the same chapter rather than separated
thanks for the catch

fair enough
I would add Night Stones to the list

There is game called Tainted Gun it isn't out yet but I am pretty its going to be an indie gem

Can you make a list for Indie mobile games?
My choice is Frontier hunter
funny enough that kill knight is free today on epic games and I just got it
go play!
Blud would've been such a good game if the hitboxes weren't that fucked😮💨
right?

Where is Drova? One of the best this year
Yes, agreed!! Although maybe he doesn’t consider it a “hidden gem” so much as an expected hit. Who knows lol 🤷🏼♀️

akimbot is very bad optimization, but good game

Yep. This year was very disappointing, none of these actually grabbed my attention aside for, maybe, Gestalt...
