So if you cant buy health insurance over 65 years old, that would exclude most retired people who would want to move there, doesnt sound like they are set up for anything serious in the way of medical issues.
You do the trip to Vietnam for medical. Even Cambodians go to Vietnam for their medical.
As someone who's seriously looking at SR to retire, this was very useful information. Thank you both!
Welcome to Cambodia 🇰🇭
Thank you very much for this. It was all helpful.
Maybe for some of your guests that aren't used to doing video chats you could give them some tips on how to set up a camera and how far back to be before actually starting the interview.
Again, I really appreciate the effort and information.
WONDERFUL EXPAT community in Siem Reap! Anything you can think of is there.
Thank you!
Phnom Penh, new condo with rooftop infinity pool. Gym, steam, sauna etc around $500-600/ month. Siem Reap is less expensive.
We missed her information about private health insurance.....
Electricity is very expensive $100 per month if you have A/C
You could even get a studio flat for $50 but it wouldn’t have hot wafer. Furnished. Most places will be furnished. Mobile phone plans $8 a month, unlimited fast data. Beef at market is about $8 a kilo.

If you could really eat, sleep, and travel like locals, you can stretch your mighty $$$ much further. There are always pros and cons no matter where we live as life is short to do the things we don't love doing. Be mindful and open minded with your surroundings as locals still live with only a few dollars a day. Cambodia has come a long way since the prolonged civil war officially ended in 1998. I've returned to live here since my retirement for ten years now from US. Most of my family members did not survive the horrific genocide there. Cambodia might not be suitable for everyone but you can give it a try as it's like a new kid in a block comparing to the neighbors. Peace from a genocide survivor ✌️
Sorry to hear about your family and thank you for sharing this information!
So could you supple a link to the insurance company you use
how much, what kind of hospitalization plan is good to get? Okay, i saw what you said about the insurance system, that is to say there is NO way for 77 year old to be insured? Otherwise, extremely interesting video, thank you!
Cambodia has been popular to retire for at least 20 years. I went there then and there were lots of expats I met who had been there a long time even then! A lot of money has been invested in the country, especially from China, who have completely ruined Sihanoukville and turned it into a kind of Chinese casino city from a lovely cool vibe beach town. Yes it’s still a country everyone should visit and check out for themselves! Electricity bills can be high if you use Aircon, much more than Thailand. The heat can be unbearable in the hotter months of April/May! Kampot is another popular place to stay, it’s a much smaller town and a pleasant place with beautiful mountains nearby! $1500 to $2000 is a comfortable budget, to live a reasonable lifestyle imo!
Yes, $1,500 Not $500.
Is there a recommended way of having a soft landing in Siem Reap regarding rhe weather of heat and humidity, such as a particular month?
Avoid April! So so hot. January is the cool season but also the high season so more expensive.
@@louisereid-simmons8274 How do North Americans live there year round unless they're confined to air conditioning 24/7??
@@dovygoodguy1296You can compare the weather to like Florida and Texas hot and humid unlike Arizona hot and dried and the weather is in the 100s in summer months. You get your daily routine done in early morning or late evening. During the mid days, just stay inside!
@@KhmerMinnesnowta In other words expats n Cambodia and even tourists have to arrange their entire life to remain inside 24/7 between about 12 - 6? What kind of a lifestyle is that especially for us foreigners, except those from Miami, Texas and Louisiana?? Or Panama etc.?
@@dovygoodguy1296 There is always an option but you can do whatever you want to do. Again, Cambodia might not be suitable for everyone as it gets hot and hotter with tropical climate. I'm currently in Minneapolis, Minnesnowta!
if you wanted to teach a few private English classes in your apt., are you allowed to do so?
Yes. Many people have been doing it online!
Could u ask Deborah how much is a live in housekeeper
Hopefully she'll reply to this. Thank you for viewing!
$800 to $1000 is going to exclude a lot. Eating out in nice places would be out, no health insurance, if you are 60+ ( you can get insurance at 60+, but it costs) no vehicle, no travel home or travel in the region, and, as mentioned, no aircon. It's cheap, but 1000 would be very basic, achievable if you have low expectations, or you enjoy a frugile life, which many do. Comfortable is $2000 per month.
Not everyone is priviledged to get that much in pension.
@@Anomalyy666 that’s 100% true, and some people will get by on 1000 happily, but it’s not comfortable imo.
You write crap. Show us the natives that earn that much, you are another that thinks you no nothing.........and you are right.
You can rent a studio flat for $150 with aircon. Bills about $50. Food is very inexpensive too. Tuktuk across town $1.50. Or buy a scooter for $500-$1500, depending on age of vehicle. $1000 is easily enough if you’re not out partying every night and wasting money.
@@sean13 how about 700-800$?
can you get a visa on arrival? at the airport i think im asking
Yes you can get a tourist visa on arrival at airports
@@louisereid-simmons8274 thank you!
How does the smallness of Cambodia compare to Laos?
I finished a podcast on Laos and will be publishing soon!
$500 dollars a month ❤
I don't need any convincing about the greatness of Siem Reap, just how to handle the exhausting effects of high humidity and heat.....
Some people like that humidity, it's good for the skin:)
@@adventurefreaksssare home dehumidifiers common in cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam?
Not sure, but maybe somebody will reply to this question:)@@gif24gt60
@@adventurefreaksssyeah good for skin cancer
