Great video. Great property. Great people. I didn't realize the property went all the way to that big tree. Can't wait for you to clear that brush. Enjoy your piece of paradise.
I looked at the Ecuador newspaper for rentals in Spanish and it was 1/3 -1/4 the prices the Realtors are charging. So there are tickets from lax ( I’m not from LA) for 180.00 one way to Cuenca. Ahí nos vemos!!
What a BEAUTIFUL home God has blessed you two with! Congratulations! I look forward to watching the progress, as you two make this into YOUR corner of the world!
Congratulations guys, love your house that's exactly the type we're going for. We going to rent for 2 years (cd investment visa) and move around a bit till we know where we want to be. Great video guys!
Those little cottages (tree houses) that are every where, specially in costal (hot/humid) areas, can have many purposes and certainly can be used in any way you want. Having said that, the most common use, is as housing for a foreman and his family. Many Ecuadorians (from the cities) might own a "Finca" (small farm) that they visit every now and then, thus they need someone who at a minimum protects the land from illegal invasions, and also work the plantations and take care of the cattle (including pigs, chickens, and horses). In exchange, they can live for free in your land, while consuming milk, fruits, eggs and other goodies (except animals) for their self-sustainment only - they are not allowed to sell anything from your property in the markets. Any excess production is for you, as the owner of the land, however if you also used them to work the land as a business, a salary/compensation must be arranged according to the workload necessary to achieve your productions goals, thus they can life for free in your land and consume just the essentials to survive, while you benefit of having the land occupied at all time (so no one can invade it) and the fields are kept in good shape, same with the cattle, chickens and pigs. If you decide to live full time in the property, is up to you to keep the foreman and his family in your land, many Ecuadorians will still choose to do so, for the oversight of the property and potential access to immediate workers if needed, example, you might need to fix the roof of the main house and hire the very same people who lives in the shack house to do so, while you are there or away in the city. Hope this helps!. Again that is just one possible use for those houses.
_Hello from Peru. First time writing in your channel. What a great beautiful land + house you have bought. Some thoughts about the termite. If the wood is good quality hardwood as ceder or mahogany, tornillo , capirona, etc it should not be attacked by termites. Probably the termite is only drilling the interior ceiling in the 2° level , where is the bamboo. It is going to be a never-ending problem, but here in Peru we have a solution. Bamboo should be pre-treated very well before installing. We pretreated from inside and outside of the bamboo_
Hello and thanks for watching! When we first started looking at countries to move to, we spent the better part of 6 months watching videos on UA-cam, which answered a lot of our questions. We tried to watch the youtubers that lived in the areas we wanted to live. We highly recommend that if you want to live in the mountains, to talk to people in the mountains. Same advice for people wanting to live on the coast :) Thanks so much for watching!
@@perfernottosay9892 you're correct. We're on the top of a hill that overlooks the town of San Jose and the ocean. Olon is a 5 minute drive south of us.
@@TravelwithJoshandJess well my nearest Napa from J town is 10 hours north, but you guys are certainly welcome to come see us. I'll spruce up the visitors center( motor home) let me know!! We can show you around the forest.
NICE digs, kids !!... Might have to adapt a pair of reduction boxes onto that bus to get up the hill with any sort of load ! Or Jess drives and you push ! :-)
Please stay safe. I was in Quito a few years ago to look around the country and maybe decide to retire there. It has become fairly unpredictable. Ecuador was cool, but I am not looking for that kind of uncertainty. Best of luck to you!
Hey Kevin, no doubt quito has gone downhill, most expats are living outside of quito. On the coast here we have the cartel gangs, the violence is gang on gang and very rarely affects expats and the expats that have had problems probably put themselves in a situation they should have never been in. I've been in Ecuador for over 20 years and haven't had and problems. There are a lot of great and safe places in Ecuador.
We had a so called 'luxury house' custom built in a so called 'upscale gated community'' on the coast of Manabi. Shortly after moving in the roof leaked, windows flooded, air conditioners leaked, water poured in under sliding doors, etc And many more construction issues. It really is wise to rent and get to know which local builders to trust.
Ugh... sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, stories like that are far to common :( you are correct though. It's a good idea to really get the feel for who the legitimate quality builders are before building.
BTW, Ecuador is not a third-world country. Ecuador is an upper-middle-income country, according to the World Bank. It does have significant poverty but is developing... Looking forward to see what you do with the house and property.
Please don't take the "3rd world country" comment literally. That was us being facetious. We laugh when we hear people make that assumption, so we are basically being smart-asses to those people :) thanks for watching!
@@TravelwithJoshandJess I've had friends who assume everyone has dirt floors and outhouses... BTW - That's why I'm watching you. I can relate to fellow smart-asses!
Ahh.. typical Gringos that jump to conclusions without following up with more current videos ;) Personally, before jumping to conclusions thinking that it will be cleared permanently, I would continue to watch the updates we have posted and you'll hear me CLEARLY say that we will be planting more vegetation for erosion control. The undergrowth is impenetrable dead and VERY dry creating a major fire hazard. Now that our workshop pad has been cleared and half the hillside cleared out, we will be able to fill it with dense, living vegetation with a deeper root system that will not be a danger to the property and improve its aesthetics. Thanks for watching! :)
It is definitely recommended, especially in a location like ours. Our local population does not speak English. If you move to larger cities, then English is much more common. (We learn more and more each day) :) thanks for watching!

Yes we have a septic tank, power, water, and fiber optic cable :)
Bienvenidos a Ecuador.

How much was it?
It was very very cheap compared to U.S. prices.
i believe the tree houses used to be used to dry grains in.
Sceptic tank?

Isolated
The vegetation surrounding the property certainly makes one feel as if no one else is around.
This is not really a house is a shack , in brazil is called Favela . You just bought a land but deffinently not a house .
