Love my EOB Strat! And, like you, I purchased it despite it being an Ed O’Brien signature model. Can’t say that I’m really a fan…but the guitar…now THAT ticked all the boxes. They even got the colour right! LOL As I tell people, “This is not your father’s Strat.” Other than the contrived neck plate, there’s no other indication that it’s a signature model…no signature, name, logos, etc. They got that right as well. The “deluxe gig bag” that it ships with is nice enough but I prefer hard cases, so that went. All in all a terrific guitar. FWIW, they are still in production and still expertly made in Mexico. It would be more than double the price if made in Corona.
Exactly... its a great guitar. I'm neither an Ed O'Brien follower either (I had to see who he was!) :) So thanks for the post and your experience too... and for watching.
Excellent upload. the sustainer, the body, the neck and the string 8 gauge combination result in a great build. Thank you for the build and upload. 2/64 reduces to 1/32. I use the Sustainiac and either 7 or 8 gauge; it's a life saver.
Yes seems the USA Fender boys often speak in 64ths when 1x32 would have maybe ben better... they do that a lot. A very useful addition guitar and I really like the result of this one... thanks for watching.
I eyed this when it first came out. Had some interesting musical possibilities it opened up. Didn't pull the trigger on it as I already had a MIA strat I was pleased with, but I was tempted. Really appreciate your reviews and how thorough you are, how you disassemble them to show what you're getting in buying the product. Would love to see you review more strymon stuff and switchers from GigRig, Mastermind, Boss, etc.
Indeed I did too... then promptly forgot about it! When I saw the complete body for sale I had to get it - cheaper than fitting a sustainer or sustainiac I guess. Glad you like what I do, I feel strongly that I should do that - everything is 'all hidden' and no one wants to show or often even talk about warranties, quality and all that stuff but for me it's part of the purchase I think... who wants a piece of junk? but worse... they sometimes don't even know they own it! But this guitar is really cool and it hangs on all day. I have reviewed little strymon stuff to date (but have just a few I think) mainly because I don't own it and personally I don't have the want to spend high cost on items that for me would generally not be used after. I try hard to get the best value from everything I buy because then that allows me to get more and if I do sell the item I can generally keep any losses to a minimum. YT certainly won't pay for my costs - the money earned is frankly tea money compared to those costs. But I'll bear your comments in mind and if I find something along these lines that you mention I'll seriously consider buying it/them for review. Thanks for watching.
Nice guitar, the sustain is awesome at low volume. I bought my first Fender Stratocaster in 1969, Artic White with Maple Neck. I recall that to get a good sustain, I had to crank up the 8X 12". Never should have sold that guitar or the L5 I sold for $400.00 so I could buy the Strat. Thanks for the review and you've got a very good guitar there, don't sell it. Take care.
I won't be selling this one... its pretty unique and when I play rock with it, its like an Ibanez! Ha we have all sold what we should not have ;-) Thanks...
This Ed O'Brien Strat was about £899 when released, today they are still available for around £1,089. I tried one when they were first released, but found the neck and pickups were not for me. I have a Schecter C1 FR-S in Black Cherry and found it far easier to play than the Fender thanks to it's slim wide radius neck. The sustaniac is a novelty when you first play it, but quickly becomes less useful. In the right hands and the right music, they can sound good, but not for general playing. Hope you are keeping well Tony.
I did a quick check and £1395 on some sites with nothing in stock... at £1100 still a very nice and individual guitar. Levi my grandson has a Schecter too with Sustainiac. It seemed to be good with some rock tracks as opposed to me messing around with semi driven stuff - maybe I'll create a video showing that too... Yes still here hacking away :) but hard work right now with products hard to find in many cases especially in the work I do in my job. Very difficult. But I have some more stuff coming up - waiting for GX-100 (I think its called) but backorders and delays... regards...
LOL. I spent the last 40 years getting competent with the EBow. I'm too set in my ways. It was good enough for Bill Nelson and my mate Stuart. It's good enough for me. Lovely looking guitar, though.
I didn't mind the slight out of tune at all.I enjoyed the composition a lot :>) In fact I might play it along wit you here at home.Cheers dear friend. When my new neck arrives ( if I remember to ) I'll make a video and let you see it.Pre CBS 22 fret flame maple neck and finger board,Super Nova markers and mother of pearl side dots compound radius ,,,,,well you know the drill :>)Freak'in amazing :>)
Always remember - I don't always get notifications of stuff on UA-cam... I found your video by chance! I came and took a look at your channel and there it was :) Very kind to make it and you did a great job HG and I have to say nice to see you, you're looking great too. Oh yes I love to see that stuff as you know and I'm sure your neck will be great - it all sounds very cool. I'm waiting for a body to go with that telecaster neck I just showed on my channel. I know what the body is like and its being finished right now, so when that arrives man, I'm sure you will love to see it. Probably the best Telecaster body I will have, and the final guitar should be stellar. Regards...
Glad you liked it. I have since fitted threaded screws to the neck so its very well kept in place (old wood was a bit dodgy on the thread). That solved the tuning issue that some saw on the playing bit. Thanks for watching and this really is a very useful guitar for most styles...
Yes I get it.... I bought it personally not because of Radiohead, but because of the sustainer... and great value for money. Different neck but it works :) Thanks.
Your technique would improve immensely if you just shorten your strap, hold the guitar on your ribcage and used a classical hand position, with your thumb as a pivot on the back of the neck. You seem to have picked up bad habits from druggy 'punks' like Keith Richards rather than guitarists like Allan Holdsworth.

Man Tony this is a sweet build with the 70s style head stock I like where the input jack is great video.
Yes a very nice guitar and the headstock I also like too. Thanks.
I love this new setup Tony!
What the owls? or the guitars :)
Great vid Tony
Robin trower swears that big headstock gives a thicker sound and more sustain.
Indeed he does as his Fender RT shows. A really brilliant player too.

:) I listened to BN too :) incredible musician and last I saw he was still going... I get it re the eBow too :)... and thanks for watching.
very nice Tony. Thanks. My goto perfromance guitar is a Fender Mexican. I like Mexcan Fenders.
Yes they are not bad... maybe the odd pot upgrade but sounded great.
would have sounded better if the guitar had been in tune to the backing track 😂
Story of my life... out of tune... with the wife, the job, the suppliers, the tax man, the... well you fill in the rest :)

Thanks for watching Louis
Super Fender wow¡¡¡

Oh dear god....
Me, the guitar or the playing :) or all three :) Thanks.
Ah my mckenzie strat. Gimme gimme😂❤️🔥🕊
Get outta here... :)
Hmmm nobody wants to pay forward these days🤑😂
First 🤘
You really were too !
Fender missed the mark making this a signature guitar, I love radiohead but would never buy this. Had it not been signature, I would own one already.
Yes I get it.... I bought it personally not because of Radiohead, but because of the sustainer... and great value for money. Different neck but it works :) Thanks.

Ha too old these days to worry much! but probably all good points! Thanks for watching.
You are out of tune :-)
