I wasn't a strat fan - I always said I would prefer Tele, Gibson, or PRS for almost any style of music. But then I opened my eyes to that amazing blues tone. Best guitar for Blues, hands down.
What he didn't mention was the way he manipulated the tone was in where (location) he was picking. Picking close to the bridge always creates a brighter/twangy tone. The closer you pick to the neck joint the warmer/rounder tone you get. Picking with the meat of your fingers is also a way to add bass to the tone. Whether you snap the strings or pluck them with your fingers also has an effect on your tone. The thickness and material of the pick also will change your tone. Many variables can change/color your tone upon any guitar you play including acoustic instruments.
New to guitar ( drummer 40 years ) just bought a American Standard Stratocaster. Thanks for the explanation on the tones I can look forward to . Cheers from Canada . Nice playing .
Thnx. This is spot on exactly what I was looking for. Love your presentation style, quite, relaxed and confident. Not one word wasted, nothing superfluous and wow what playing and just a gorge3looking and sounding guitar. Thnx. Stay safe in these strange time.
Cooper, I could honestly listen to you play all day. You are one of the few PROPER Strat players out there who truly knows how the instrument is to be played. So glad to see a video with your tasty chops front and center instead of playing second fiddle!
I'm a Guitarist specialized in Mark Knopfler style and I totally agree: most of the time my favorite switch position is the middle+bridge. Great video! :)
Strata have so much personality - I still use it the most for my recordings. When I was younger, I favored the combo positions, but I use them all now. This video did a great job of showcasing the tonal possibilities.
How’s it going brother ??? Love seeing the late start guys stick it out. With the Right attitude and practice regiment that can become incredibly good. A lot of times when I see guys start older, they develop a great touch and play smarter in a lot of ways , but it is def from putting time in no matter what age or level. I hope u are still picking
Cooper that was thoroughly enjoyable. I just bought a CV 70s Strat from you guys as my first guitar. I would take lessons from you if I lived closer. Great video, thank you.
Thanks for the demo. Great finger style. Love the way you tuck your pick away with your index. But would have loved to have seen a proper demo of the tone knobs too. I'm new to playing guitar and recently got a MIM strat. I know my bottom tone knob controls position 1 only , and the other one controls all the other positions (i think) but i also know on some other strats the bridge has no tone control at all! So the whole thing is shrouded in mystery!
I just learned that actually. Just do like a really floppy slap onto the finger board and instantly upstroke and use your fingers to create a raking effect. Once you practice a little you can get super quick flamenco bursts easily. The key is hitting the higher neck to control the sound and get a smoother slap
Bought my 1st Fender guitar 3 years ago it is a strat ultra and it's insane, I'm glad I just went for it. Have mine playing through DSL40CR and it sounds mean
Good demonstation ,the vintera 60ties modell looks good and sounds really good with the hot rod deluxe in all position and your playing is very professionell so all is good at the alamo
My favourite setting is NOT there and that is why on my Strat since 1979 I put THREE individual pickup on/off switches (Fender Jazzmaster switches) so I have NINE combinations. Neck and Bridge setting together are my favourite. Then ALL three pickups on together give you just about an exact mark Knoffler sound. Always amazed me why on very old strats only 3 positions were available plus 'in betweens'. Didn't make sense to me even as a 16yr old kid!
*Awesome video, dude! I've worked out now that my favourite position on a Strat is the middle position, because it's neither too dark, nor too bright. It's just bloody right! Hey, that rhymed! 😂 It's just right 4 me anyways. So when I get my Strat soon, I think I'll remove both the neck and bridge pickups and the pickup switch, so it's just the middle one left!! 😂 Or maybe I'll keep the neck pickup and switch as well, so I can use the 4th and 5th positions, too! 😆*
It basically gives you more tonal control while keeping the same look of the strat. If you want to read more check out this link! www.fender.com/articles/tech-talk/how-the-s-1-switch-gives-you-more-tonal-options/
Pretty new to the guitar playing world so forgive me but what kind of picking style is he using? Sounds great. Especially when he incorporates his other fingers.
Good stuff. Great showcase of the Strat tone. Pedals and alternate amp settings will enhance everything heard here. In my opinion, SRV and Hendrix pushed the Strat to the absolute limit. EVH pushed it even further. But, that’s not really a fair apples-to-apples comparison
tbh i never use the 2nd position (bridge and middle), i just use the 5th position (neck only) the 3rd (middle only) and the 1st (bridge only) and i barely find myself using the 4th position as well ( neck and middle), i dont know why but they have never suited up my style
I’m fairly new to strats and understand the basic concept of lowering and raising pole pieces. However, I am curious why your b string pole piece in both the neck and middle pickups is so low. Is this normal? I have a Performer and the poles are all the same height so I’m curious. Thanks!
Hi, I found your video very interesting. Would you please listen to Bert Weedon's FBI, on UA-cam. The last but one verse at 1 minute 19 seconds is played on the high strings, at frets 12; 13 and 14. It consists of the notes E; C and A. When I play that verse on my acoustic guitar, it all sounds very thin and frail. Bert plays an electric guitar with a plectrum. Any ideas how he might be achieving such a rich, powerful quality? I am not sure, but I think the big chord which starts each phrase is an A Minor(?) Would you agree?

Amen
But the bridge pickup on the other hand...

Strat neck and tele bridge are my two favorite tones.

👍😊🎸
Guys listen. The secret to good strat tones is the colour. It has to be white with rosewood board.
Bonus tone if you have a mint green pickguard
Just like white light has all the colors in it, the white finish means it has all the strat colors in it at once, so it gets all the tones.
Dang it, he almost made the cut, because that’s a Pau Ferro board
How about a sonic blue with roasted maple board?
Or a fiesta red one
New to guitar ( drummer 40 years ) just bought a American Standard Stratocaster. Thanks for the explanation on the tones I can look forward to . Cheers from Canada . Nice playing .
Who better than to give advice on strat tones than a young David Gilmour?
Jimi, SRV, would be better than Dave Gilmour.

That neck pickup has a sweet tone that I have never experienced on any other guitar. It seems to be unique.
Holy hell I love this guy's playing!
Great playing, Great demo, Great Fender Strat for the money...Went thru all the settings effectively...Well Done...
Nice looking Strat and superb playing! One of the best demo's I've seen! Didn't hear any SRV OR JM and that is a huge plus!!
why is that a plus?
srv and jm had great tones
They definitely did! But EVERYONE tends to play them when they pick up a strat, and it's just nice to hear something a little different
