- Eskom warning as well that the levels of power cuts could change at short notice if breakdowns occur at power stations or demand surges. Energy expert Ted Blom speaks to #eNCA Courtesy #DStv403
Those power stations in SA would run with ease and would even have power to spare. IF it only supplied power to those who actually pay for electricity.
Unfortunately, the infrastructure is at fault. It's faulty, rusty, old and broken.

Exactly right, the amount of illegal connection's and non payer's is the real reason. Not the bullshit they feeding the public ☝️
Sally, if you bring on an electricity expert like Ted Blom, your task is to get his opinions without interrupting or contradicting him. He is obviously in the know and has been warning us since 2008 about all these things. Remember that. This was very disappointing!
She probably knows more than him 😅

@@francoisbezuidenhout4638 ofcourse she doesn't, i was agreeing with you francois, excuse the sarcasm.
The news want us to believe that this is all real. Loadshedding, especially at this level is unnecessary. The country can go without loadshedding, if the government and eskom stop selling coal to other cou tries and instead using it for their own country.
My blood pressure rises and falls with these stages. Working from home is particularly challenging
Working from home is a dead born idea...you got internet...stop commenting on youtube and some reachurge...
@@truth-Hurts375 This reply is truly abhorrent. You must be one of the fortunate ones who does not have to worry about whether you have electricity or not!
I feel for the home business folks and the lack of empathy by our fellow citizens. Keep the faith.
Ban all metal scrap yards. Nyaupe boys dont care
May we never forget that Europe went back to using coal overnight at the slightest discomfort.
We must blame the cANCer Regime for this debacle including their BEE and Affirmative Action polices
I'm a black SAcan and agree with you. The ANC has failed its people n must go through the ballot. Certainly not voting for them 2024. The country needs 10 to 15 yrs of healing and rehabilitation to recover from the caANCer. As a grown up with kids, I worry about the future of my kids. If things carryon as they are, they will be immigrants in I dont know where? All SAcans are suffering both black n white young ppl.
@@lesleymtho agreed
Vote 'ANC' for less electricity
Why couldn't the president just appoint Ted Blom as energy minister. It's always Cadre deployment. A minister with no technical skills when it comes to electricity generation.
hey lady incentive aka bribe man😂.. sounds as if this lady is also receiving an incentive
Does the ANC not understand that there will be nothing left to steal when there is no electricity?
@@gregorymalchuk272 I agree
But Sally, all of the old coal fired power stations would have still functioned 100% today, HAD THEY BEEN MAINTAINED regularly ! The sooner we all realize that the Government left this crisis for far too long AND were sitting on their hands doing nothing about it instead of doing something about it, the better. YET, NOBODY wants to take accountability in the downfall of Eskom's inability to supply constant electricity in the Country ! Nobody wants to work together to find solutions to the problems, because it is a case of everybody for himself/herself.
Why dont you follow your own advise??? Put in solar..look like you are a genius on whats going on ...
Yes, it is the oldest power stations which are the most reliable even with the poor maintenance.
The last one that failed was a new one - Medupi.
Heck, if the coal fired power stations had been maintained to even mediocre to moderately acceptable western standards like 75% to 85% Energy Availability Factor (EAF), there would be no load shedding at all.
Thank you Ted for speaking the truth, these renewable people literally threw the country under the bus. A mixture of energy supply is what we need currently and not do decommission some of our coal fired stations while introducing renewables.
Agree with Ted 100 persent
What a mess since 1994 this was predicted prior 1994
Well done anc.
Ted you are great keep up the good work
Honestly Sally whose sidea are you on? There is a disconnect between reality and the truth which is this will kill what little is left of our economy, especially with a power increase of 15.6 % for 12 hours.
Exactly
On the side who pays her salary. Amazing how ignorant many people are when it comes to energy and then they still want to argue with experts.
@@gregesterhuysen7979 spot on. Some of these journalists do take us for fools. Off course we know who pays her. We know how to follow the money trail. Good on me Blom for spelling it out to her. Next we’re going to hear mr Blom throws around ‘false allegations’ . ….
This is a call for voters to make the correct mark vote this gov out
Why should we export coal if we do t have enough for ourselves.
The interviewer is bought, and paid for...
Rest in peace Ted. 🥲
Sally haven't got a clue what is going on
This government is ridiculous with all this load shedding...
Winter is here, and South Africans aren't able to heat themselves or keep the lights on. It's bad!
She is paid for..Germany paid our government to stop using coal
Coal should not be exported, but made available for heating, during this winter, to the public across the country.
I wish Juju would have another lockdown. Then we can go back to level 2 like when he was rioting last month.
Hahahaha....
we fucking need one again, and fast!
Dont you realize that the grid is fucked. Juju can't help this!
OR.... have a change of government where a responsible governing party can actually fix Eskom and provide us with ZERO loadshedding?
Don't fear, soon there will be a permanent national shutdown, after the economy fails.AMANDLA
Sally was really poor in this interview. She needs to look for a new line of work. This interviewing thing isn’t for her
I like Ted Blom... a realist. Very practical. Honestly what he's saying is common sense. As a developing nation with serious power supply challenges, South Africa needs reliable energy source and that can only come from coal. Its that simple.
Also listen to 00Dezz .
This lady seems a bit too excited about decomissioning of coal plants and the move to exhorbatant renewable energy that hasnt worked anywhere else in the world.
My solar panels work just fine.

Nuclear is the answer.
People we need to pray miracles do happen 😂.
People at Megawatt park have not forgotten how to drive a grid. They are being FORCED into this risky behaviour by the government to try to make the Electricity Minister look good.
You can tell they are operating in this extra risky operating zone with no margin because the load shedding levels are changing rapidly with no warning.
There has already been stage 8 loadshedding in January or March when there was a shortfall of over 7000MW. By definition that is stage 8.
By definition, the ANC are the thieves that stole everything this country had.
This lady going off the top poor very poor
Ted Blom😂 we need you
Well said about the green brigade renewables!
Thank you Ted Blom. RE is not the solution, it is volatile and has limited capacity.
Oh Sally, Andre already told us their was dark days ahead in 2023, we didn't need the electricity clown to confirm it. And you perform so much better when you get into your hitmen mode
Where is eff to do a shutdown again , not in a week's time do it now ,I don't support eff but I support anti Eskom
Why does the Minister of Energy says we won't have total blackouts. We cant afford blackouts , it's winters. It's killing people.
Sally is wrong here.
Ramaphosa says load shedding will be solved in the short term but the Electricity taxi driver says this is not the case. Should everyone just assume they are both lying???
Sally you such a greenie
Ted Blom... correct 100% of the time!!!!!
Why is the Sally defending rewables while we in the dark😅
Many people believe this renewable BS, because they have been lied to. Just follow the money - nothing to do with producing more electricity. Biden's money will also disappear.
Thanks sir I've been telling people that, this renewable energy thing is not working, the presenter is trying to defend a disaster that will put us to total darkness
Sally is probably benefits from green energy contracts
Sally knows about as much about electricity as I do about rocket science
@@Neo_Rain146 Yes but solar panels and wind energy won't take us to clean energy,we can try hydrogen energy or nuclear fusion a stable resources not something that depends on the weather, you can use wind and solar energy to supply your house not the grind it won't work we just fooling our selves,we are applying for more poverty, unless it's the plan,to starve south Africans, it's working very well, I've watched a documentary about this people come to developing countries come sell them this idea promise them funds, their companies benefits from that and the country will be left in debt, they are called economic assassin's.

Would have been better to use the minister of electricity huge salary to buy diesel.
Sally is being a silly greeny. We all know that you cannot just put solar panels on your roof. You have to pair it with an inverter and batteries, which then quadruples the cost. How much will "stored" solar energy cost Eskom Sally?
We need another EFF national shutdown & protest, seems to have worked like a charm last time 😂
Time to stock up on diesel, Eskom. In the mean time, you are drawing the ANC down the drain, with your Stage 8 load shedding. At least that's one positive to take from these blackouts.
Oh please Sally, right now we need the coal fired power stations!
Anything those pesky Anc AA BEE hands touch will be broken or stolen. That's their default setting.

We need descent new base load! Base load is hydro, gas, coal or nuclear.
Stop making a fool of yourself...the problem is NOW !!! How long does it take yo buildt one powerstation??? And at what cost??? Put in solar and stop making a fool of yourself
@@truth-Hurts375 The best time to build new coal fired power stations in South Africa was in 1998, just after the December 1997 Eskom memorandum warning the government that they would run out of capacity by early 2008. The second best time is now. (And get better maintenance contractors for the existing power stations).

And messed up the system with burning diesel all day long. Molefe stopped the renewables back then, because he was aiding and abetting the diesel mafia. Corruption is at the heart of everything taht is wrong in Africa.
How much more messed up can Eskom get. Loadshedding from 9am this morning, it is now 13:45 and it is still not on. Really. 😠😠😠😠😠😠😠 Fire all these bastards they are useless. But they want more money!!!!!!!
Where is the solution the Electricity Minister was so optimistic about in the beginning
Bribery is still bribery, no matter how you sweet talk it.
Aha Zuma saw this coming miles away .
He and the Indians created it !!!!!!!
He did, but at what cost? If the zuptas did not erode the entire energy sector, we probably could afford something better than we have now ie loads of debt with a failing grid + gennies gorging diesel at R40 per litre.
Zooma had a window to better at least some of the coal plants + getting ahead with servicing debt, but no, it had to be nuclear or nothing. Why?
Debt just escalates in tandem with an extremely unstable grid, exhorbant diesel costs with the forever begging bowl under one arm eskom, pushing renewable energy with a vengeance, gets SA on the grey list.
With winter around the corner + an expensive electricity minister doing a spokespersons job - there still seems to be no other operational plan with viable solutions for the existing plants. And whose to gain from it?
Yep, the Guptas informed him of that.....
The presenter isn't unnecessarily being difficult with Mr Blom. Unlike business owners, she doesn't call the shots at eNCA. She's at the same authority-level as the faceless background admin-staff. Like all the pleb-level staff, she was prepped by her seniors i.t.o what questions to ask, the interview style, etc. Folks, here's a real newsflash. She's just doing her job as instructed by her bosses just like all of us who diligently follows orders at our places of employ, to earn a salary with which to take care of our families. The days of large corporates allowing creative input from employees are long over! It's now about doing EXACTLY what your "bosses" instruct you to do or to LEAVE your employ (if you feel being unemployed will suit your and your family's lives better).
Yes, we know. But she can still be criticised. If she’s prepared to sell her soul, then off course we can criticise her. After all we have to pay for tv.
Germany has re opened coal fired power stations.
Battery storage is not dispatch-able powers.Sally is not an engineer and shouldn’t act like she knows everything about energy. You can’t replace your car with a rented bicycle.

Referring to load-shedding as "blackouts" is not helpful eNCA! I'm not suggesting that load-shedding is OK, I'm saying that referring to it as blackouts is just eNCA trying to stir trouble and get more attention for themselves. Load-shedding and blackouts are not the same thing. Load-shedding is done according to a well published schedule whereas "blackouts" implies that the outages are sporadic and unforeseen. Again, I'm not suggesting that load-shedding is not a problem for us all.
As authoritative as eNCA might think they are, they regularly show very wrong information when presenting daily stock market, currency and commodity values. About 3 years ago, they showed the exact same weather report every day for almost a week.
Nuclear energy for 35+% of our energy
You fought it when zuma wanted to do it
@@LT.J everyone has the right to be stupid. You are abusing that right or you have the worst luck when it comes to thinking. Take your strawman arguments elsewhere.
Nuclear and Hydro are the cleanest forms.... People never discuss that nuclear waste can be recycled. The renewables movement which assumed was great is the biggest scam of the decade. So many countries have seen this...
Yoh this all nonsense what happens to our food what happens to us people who are buying electricity yet there are millions that use free power why should we suffer for others....This is very unfair that's why eskom is not getting paid for giving us power cos of the free users municipality does not have funds to pay them.... instead of switching us off go find all free using power house holds then dam have load shedding
Thank you minister "burnt out lightbulb"
This interviewer is incredibly naïve. Ted knows what he's talking about.
Why can they not fix the electric grid every time that it is loadshedding tbe cables gets stolen, why dont they uze drones?

I have had a massive loss of respect for Ted Blom after this interview, with his attack on renewables and his lack of sympathy for the health of people and the priceless irreplaceable nature of our lungs.
Shame
If only half the population may afford these renewable energy.
You need to get informed. Do some research. Even so-called 1st World countries find it too expensive and impractical to depend on GREEN (????????) Energy. Tell me - "what is the CARBON FOOTPRINT to produce all your GREEN needs - batteries, minerals (mining) Windmills etc" You GREENIES are annoying, painful, virtue-signalling & ignorant
How well will your irreplaceable lungs work without food and water?
If the existing coal fired power stations had maintenance quality and energy availability factor of even mediocre western coal fired power stations, then there would be no load shedding at all. It's simply a fact. Renewables in places like the west all require massive coal capacity for backup. Renewables have a tiny energy availability factor of less than half of the CURRENT coal fleet.
Ted Blom just lost all his credibility. He must stop making comments about SA energy crisis
The interviewer had the correct interpretation-listen to her comments and questions asked..
