After being on this earth over 50 years, and following this band since 1983 I have to say this- it doesn't appeal to all audiences, it is mature, unapologizing, in your face, and doesn't give a s#$t. Long live Metallica.
I know for sure that a lot of "trve" Metallica fans will hate me for saying this. But this is my very favorite Metallica song. And I'm 49 years old and knew them since Master came out and saw them live in that tour.
What a band ! Miss them so much. They need to make a record soon. The writing and that mix of great riffs plus kind of a sad ballad is just great. Return from people liking the same music is always great. stay safe in the meantime : ua-cam.com/video/RCZScxA1Hk4/v-deo.html and happy new year
There's a lot of intolerant vocal snobs out there when it comes to music. I've been listening since the Black Album (42 years old here) and for me King Nothing is my favorite. People hate on the Load sessions so much, but vocally James was at his very best, and there are more than a few good Metallica-esque solos still to be heard regardless.
I remember when this crap came out. It was a lame nirvana Copy. Metallica was always against make up and spandex. Then this comes out- heart shaped box video, make up and spandex, one bass drum on Lars, short hair. They make a grunge album to be hip, and grunge itself was already dead. It was probably pants c major de. Now, I understand that your artistic taste can change but then kill the band and go a different route. Because no one is going to their concert to listen to this. They go to shout : “die!”
This song hits home pretty hard. Yesterday my aunt passed away after suffering from Ovarian cancer for 8 years. It has finally slept. I'm glad she's no longer in pain. May she rest in peace
I’m a thrash maniac and I can say that this song is so underrated it hurts. Load is a great album and although recent albums came back to being somewhat “thrash” they’re not so creative, unique and powerful as this. Hats off.
Now I like Metallica's thrashy side more for sure, but am I the only one who thinks load is extremely underrated? *edit: five years later, I am aware that I am, in fact, not the only person who thinks this lol
This is exactly how I feel. I really think this album was a tribute to Cliff because he was always encouraging experimentation with music styles and finally they did it
I Actually think that Load is Kind of Overrated. A lot of people Consider Load better then Reload, and Death Magnetic. I mean don't get me Wrong, Load is a Decent album but it dies down for the second half. I feel like Reload is a lot better, Songs like The Unforgiven II, Low Man's Lyric, Fixxxer, Etc. I only really like Until it Sleeps and The House Jack built off Load.
+Bengie “Sawyer” Macfarlane I think everything up to and including ...And Justice for All is from beginning to end great. I give "Metallica" an A-/B+ and worthy of the Grammy AJfA SHOULD have gotten.
I've only been a Metallica fan & a heavy metal fan for the last 2 to 3 years but I can honestly it's the greatest thing I ever discovered & to this day I don't understand how I ever lived with out it I'll will love this music forever
I'd say this is the first album where Metallica didn't sound a whole lot different than all the other bands that were popular at the time. In the wake of grunge, many older bands were terrified of becoming irrelevant and desperately tried to cop the darker grunge/post-grunge sound and aesthetic. Metallica was obviously doing the same with Load. Fortunately for them, the band was big enough that they were able to weather those times successfully. And for the record, I really like this album, because I love the music of that era, be it Metallica or whoever. I'm glad they chased the trends with this one.
Absolutely one of their most underrated. I was withdrawing from heroin when it was released. The lyrics really said it all. The entire Load album is underrated also.
these type of music videos were very common in the mid 90s check the cranberries - zombie or Smashing Pumpkins - bullate with a butterfly wings or Garbage - only happy when t rains
Pato Orellana I would have loved to hear that song the way Jason meant to write it. He thought they were going to follow suit and do an instrumental for the Black Album, but it was changed to include lyrics before they recorded it. At least on the Live Shit: Binge and Purge box set they show him doing an instrumental version of it live.
this song (and the video), perfectly describes how it is to be a cancer patient. i never felt more rage than when it hits you that your own body "hates you" in a sense. and even if you survive the first round, it only sleeps.
Foe the last 14 years I've been fighting a illness that had taken much of my body and some of my brain. I've lost friends because I couldn't do things any more. I couldn't work or drive. This song kept me going I can now say officially today after meeting with my Dr. I am well enough to go back to the land of the living. I actually drove home for the first time in a decade!. I tell you all this because if your fighting something you fell will never go away, I can and will!. Live love and fight my friends
I hate that people rip on Metallica for this album. I'm a huge fan of their old stuff, Damage Inc. is probably my favorite song by them, but to act like they did a bad thing by not playing thrash metal forever is dumb. For on thing for a band to stay alive, they have to change with the people who listen to them. Secondly, they were getting older and you mellow out as you age. This is still good music even if its not the same as their old stuff.
to be fair on that mellow out part, there's tons of thrash bands that were around at the same time that haven't slowed down at all; machine head, slayer, exodus to name a few
Link Freeman Yeah but I have friends who still party like we did in college, while I'm home with my pregnant wife and kid. Point is that some people change, some don't. Another thing, Metallica is far more successful than any of the other bands you named. I hear Metallica on the radio almost daily. slayer, etc.....pretty much never.
beefcake3131 well i never hear any of them anymore on the radio because the radio around where i live sucks ass, the only rock radios we have around now play softer stuff or classic rock like u2 or bad company and it gets old pretty quick
Link Freeman That sucks. The classic rock station where I live is pretty bad ass. They play a lot of good classic rock, but also play stuff from when I was growing up like STP, Alice in Chains, Metallica, Sound Garden, staind ETC.
beefcake3131 yea we used to have a couple like that but they all got replaced by country/rap/hip hop stations, but at least now media interfaces for phones are become kind of standardized and we can just use phones for music
Its awsome that metallica has many styles , it shows that they r really creative and professional . People say " oh , im a real metallica fan and i only enjoy first 4 albums" No , thats not being metallica fan. A real metallica fan enjoy all of their album and respect them! Of course u can enjoy more other albums , but critic the bc of the hair? Pls grow up!
I had always interpreted the lyrics to mean “so hold me [tenderly, for comfort, for relief] until it sleeps” but the video seems to suggest “so hold me [securely, for containment, for control, for others’ safety] until it sleeps.” And honestly, both fit the song. I’ve felt both needs in my life. That’s some really impressive writing.
Anyone who hates on this song clearly hasn’t experienced anything bad in their lives. This is a song with more meaning that what you really know... do yourself a favour and really listen
no it wasn't they took it all from grunge, and other alt rock music (musically and visually) though I do like what they did , even though by that time, grunge was dead
First drum beat i ever learned. So it has a sentiment and nostalgia hold over me. You can tell its 90s because of the typical Mellon collie, beautiful people style video production. Plus kirk was emulating the vibe of dave navarro. Great Era. ✌
This song gets to me in so many ways and most of those ways I can't even comprehend when listening, and feeling the music just take over me. I don't really know why people don't sit down and listen to unload and load and just feel it.
You are officially awesome now. I like Load more though. But pretty soon I'll give reload another chance cause Where Wild Things Are is a awesome song. Load and St Anger are my favs from Metallica.
Tyler Melton St. Anger was their worst cd ever. Load and Reload are ehh but Master of Puppets and Kill Em All will forever be the best work Metallica did. I do enjoy this song alot.

The song Represents Cancer, and the Cancer that took James Hetfields mother. If you listen to the lyrics, I understand your mental anguish, keep the fight, find the tools to fight back and keep on trucking! stay safe
this is still my favorite band of all time hetfield is the best... u dont hear lyrics like this anymore... anyone that has been thru addiction can figure out what this song is about in a few seconds..
Justin Burger music is also subjective. What it means for one person, it might be another. I take the song, "Bleeding Me" and It makes me think of overcoming the darkest depths of depression, slef hatred, suicidal thoughts, ect., but i am almost certian james penned it as an ode to addiction. I never bothered to look up the meaning of the song though because I habe already assigned one to it. I am just aware it is probably not the original message and meaning.
never listened to load or reload, this is the first song i listen and I like it. A welcome change to the aggresive style of Metallica. Why is Load and Reload getting so much hate?
because metal heads hardcore fan base are morons. those who likes it, will generally be more open to other kind of music as well (and not just one genre).
some good songs on those albums, unforgiven 2 is the best song on those albums for me. mostly because the albums are neither heavy metal or thrash and most old tallica fans only like the first 4 albums.
Because there is too much filler on both albums. They should've taken the best of both albums and put out one CD. Also, there is a mid-tempo, radio rock blandness to the whole ordeal. There are some good if not great songs, but it's a bit watered down too. Bleeding Me on Load is especially great in my opinion.
This song is very underrated, one of their best

I do feel, i know he made this cause of his mom n hiw close he was im about to lose my mom from stage 4 cancer in different places.
I put this song in the same category as _The Unnamed Feeling._
After being on this earth over 50 years, and following this band since 1983 I have to say this- it doesn't appeal to all audiences, it is mature, unapologizing, in your face, and doesn't give a s#$t. Long live Metallica.
Есть ещё такая группа наз Rammstein👍💪
I know for sure that a lot of "trve" Metallica fans will hate me for saying this. But this is my very favorite Metallica song. And I'm 49 years old and knew them since Master came out and saw them live in that tour.
What a band ! Miss them so much. They need to make a record soon.
The writing and that mix of great riffs plus kind of a sad ballad is just great.
We tried to do a mix of rock and ballad with one of our latest song, would love your views on it.
Bué da fixe
I remember when this crap came out. It was a lame nirvana Copy. Metallica was always against make up and spandex. Then this comes out- heart shaped box video, make up and spandex, one bass drum on Lars, short hair. They make a grunge album to be hip, and grunge itself was already dead. It was probably pants c major de. Now, I understand that your artistic taste can change but then kill the band and go a different route. Because no one is going to their concert to listen to this. They go to shout : “die!”
This song fucking rocks. When a song still gives you chills after all these years.that makes it forever a classic.
This song hits home pretty hard. Yesterday my aunt passed away after suffering from Ovarian cancer for 8 years. It has finally slept. I'm glad she's no longer in pain. May she rest in peace
IMO This is the most badass they have ever looked visually
I’m a thrash maniac and I can say that this song is so underrated it hurts. Load is a great album and although recent albums came back to being somewhat “thrash” they’re not so creative, unique and powerful as this. Hats off.
Metallic has their shi. T ogethere😊
Now I like Metallica's thrashy side more for sure, but am I the only one who thinks load is extremely underrated?
*edit: five years later, I am aware that I am, in fact, not the only person who thinks this lol
Definitely. Fans were so into this "Metallica sold out" thing that the music got obscured.
+Bengie “Sawyer” Macfarlane Bleeding Me and Outlaw Torn off Load are high lights for me. They are just so good!
This video and a part of the solo reminds me of REM - Losing My Religion
Yes, indeed! I've always thought so. Great minds think alike... you must be brilliant♡😁😉
But more gay
Killing for Religion
Reminds of? Hahaha
yeah and Nirvana . Heart Shaped Box.. but it's probbably because of director Samuel Bayer. Got the same feeling about it. Peace
I've only been a Metallica fan & a heavy metal fan for the last 2 to 3 years but I can honestly it's the greatest thing I ever discovered & to this day I don't understand how I ever lived with out it I'll will love this music forever
Dkorjoss dibbo
Also has a "Zombie" vibe from the Cranberries..
I feel this song is about temptation, greed and guilt. Over come your demons. By far one of my favorite songs. Definitely underrated.
It's about cancer
@@fixxxer6663 and his mom
There are several Metallica songs that will probably haunt me to the end of my days. This one is definitely one of them.
Absolutely one of their most underrated. I was withdrawing from heroin when it was released. The lyrics really said it all. The entire Load album is underrated also.
METALLICA GNR and the Killers are definitely some of the best Gospel Music ever. Drives me nuts when people say they are Devil worshipers
This is easily one of the best music videos ever made. Absolutely brilliant.
Agree
Lies again? Bench Warmer Olympic Medal
fuck it you talking about he smeared himself in shit fuck is wrong with you
nessa hora tudo vai bem
these type of music videos were very common in the mid 90s check the cranberries - zombie or Smashing Pumpkins - bullate with a butterfly wings or Garbage - only happy when t rains
Thank you Metallica for all albums .This is gem 💎!!!
I love this man's voice. It's power to draw you in is so irresistible. A part of his charm one cannot run away from. Amazing song. Great video❤.

Shows the vocal abilities of James. What a friggin legend. All of them are.
This is real Metallica

Most underrated Metallica song ever. Next to Escape.
Derek Miller Escape, Leper Messiah, Trapped Under Ice, No Remorse, The Thing That Should Not Be, Eye Of The Beholder and plenty more.
That's true. those songs are underrated as fuck..
To me, this is their most underrated. Personally.
Derek Miller the most underrated song in my opinion was bleeding me
And My Friend Of Misery.
I really love Load, Reload and St Anger because of how they express themselves through the songs
I had stage 3 cancer 6 years ago. Really related to this song. So much meaning....
I love James's facial expressions, Devilishly 😈 I LOVE Metallica!! 🤘🔥💓⚡
this song (and the video), perfectly describes how it is to be a cancer patient.
i never felt more rage than when it hits you that your own body "hates you" in a sense.
and even if you survive the first round, it only sleeps.
Damn good song so dark and emotional.
Like my heart
To be honest Metallica's Until it sleeps off their 1996 multi-platinum album is still one of my song of the late 90's.
At the 3:43 mark you can really feel all those emotions coming out of the instruments but mostly you can feel all of their energy
Love this song! "So hold me until it sleeps" - so powerful! Until IT sleeps.
Best rock/metal video of all times! Samuel Bayer is a genius.
Foe the last 14 years I've been fighting a illness that had taken much of my body and some of my brain.
I've lost friends because I couldn't do things any more.
I couldn't work or drive.
This song kept me going
I can now say officially today after meeting with my Dr. I am well enough to go back to the land of the living. I actually drove home for the first time in a decade!.
I tell you all this because if your fighting something you fell will never go away, I can and will!.
Live love and fight my friends
Best Metallica album by far. True fans know what's up.
Jajajajajajaja
I hate that people rip on Metallica for this album. I'm a huge fan of their old stuff, Damage Inc. is probably my favorite song by them, but to act like they did a bad thing by not playing thrash metal forever is dumb. For on thing for a band to stay alive, they have to change with the people who listen to them. Secondly, they were getting older and you mellow out as you age. This is still good music even if its not the same as their old stuff.
to be fair on that mellow out part, there's tons of thrash bands that were around at the same time that haven't slowed down at all; machine head, slayer, exodus to name a few
Link Freeman
Yeah but I have friends who still party like we did in college, while I'm home with my pregnant wife and kid.
Link Freeman
That sucks.
I had always interpreted the lyrics to mean “so hold me [tenderly, for comfort, for relief] until it sleeps” but the video seems to suggest “so hold me [securely, for containment, for control, for others’ safety] until it sleeps.”
And honestly, both fit the song. I’ve felt both needs in my life. That’s some really impressive writing.
One of my all-time favorite songs. I remember listening to this cassette over and over as a kid.
Lies again? Western Union
One of the first and only songs that the lyrics actually "gripped" and "held" me. I know this feeling too well...
Rock videos from the 90s were badass
Anyone who hates on this song clearly hasn’t experienced anything bad in their lives. This is a song with more meaning that what you really know... do yourself a favour and really listen
Love the connection to bosh's work
Bosch
Alice Campos ?
I agree, anyone know who directed this? Great concept!
Son OfDog This was 1996 .....Watch the video to The Cranberries song Zombie in 1994
Great song. I can't believe it's already been about two decades since it came out.
Almost three now
This video was really ahead of its time for the metal genre. It was a clear inspiration for Machine Head's Now We Die music video.
It has a lot of Marilyn Manson ,David Bowie and Losing my religion by REM in it.
Not really ahead.
no it wasn't they took it all from grunge, and other alt rock music (musically and visually) though I do like what they did , even though by that time, grunge was dead
James looked his best in this Era IMO, and sounded amazing with these heartfelt songs, what a great frontman and band ❤
Metallica+Vanilla World of Warcraft still the things that get me relaxed the most...
+Marko Miljevic for me its this plus doom II
Literally me
Haha i used to Metallica + vanilla Warcraft all the time. Good times
LMFAO EVERYDAY
First drum beat i ever learned. So it has a sentiment and nostalgia hold over me. You can tell its 90s because of the typical Mellon collie, beautiful people style video production. Plus kirk was emulating the vibe of dave navarro. Great Era. ✌
Such a good song, about his mother/parents if i’m not mistaken, soo much emotion, you can tell he really loved his folks ❤
Thank God i was born in 1977..., and keep listening until today!!!
until the day that never comes🤘
Load was extremely underrated. This song might be more mainstream but it's still 🔥
Love this
I'm old I just discovered Metallica - I listen to this song over and over - everything this band does - it's genious
This video is awesome. I feel sorry for those who can't understand the beauty behind the Load/ReLoad era.
Saudades dessa época, quando era um jovem sujo e cabeludo que ficava o dia inteiro na frente da MTV vendo e ouvindo essas obras primas!
This was the first single off the Load album, a true masterpiece of an album!!!
probably Metallica's best music video.
What a band ! Miss them so much. They need to make a record soon.
The writing and that mix of great riffs plus kind of a sad ballad is just great.
We tried to do a mix of rock and ballad with one of our latest song, would love your views on it. Return from people liking the same music is always great. stay safe in the meantime : ua-cam.com/video/RCZScxA1Hk4/v-deo.html and happy new year
20 years today, I was 5 years old when it came out and I still love this video.
Damn
Same here. but it's 4 years old for me, my mom told me i carried my "black album" cassette with me where ever i went. lol *EDIT* Realized that didn't make any sense to the actual topic, but i'm drunk, so i get a free card
Im getting drunk too *highfive for the booze nd the good jams we are enjoying!*
I was 15 but have listened to Metallica since I was 4 or 5 with my older brother who is friends with James hetfield and Kirk
Same here, i was 12 back then, i was blown away.
This song is hauntingly beautiful 😍
This is a gem. But in 1996 nobody knew, except tallica.❤
Their first album I ever listened and I was hooked. Found their load album at a pawn shop and don’t regret that purchase
Been battling depression and aniexty .this song fits my life .so exhausting and a different world
Like being underwater and seeing the surface, but not knowing how big a breath you can get before...
The song Represents Cancer, and the Cancer that took James Hetfields mother. If you listen to the lyrics, I understand your mental anguish, keep the fight, find the tools to fight back and keep on trucking! stay safe
Keep Going Bro....
@@charlie6233 i watched a vid where he said its not about cancer
@@lisabradley7668 which film, some kind of monster?
this is still my favorite band of all time hetfield is the best... u dont hear lyrics like this anymore... anyone that has been thru addiction can figure out what this song is about in a few seconds..
Actually this song ,even in interviews has said this song is about his mother dieing of cancer
I agree....he is the best.
There's an inner boogie man in all of us. Some people are good at burying it, others it is skin deep.
never listened to load or reload, this is the first song i listen and I like it. A welcome change to the aggresive style of Metallica. Why is Load and Reload getting so much hate?
because metal heads hardcore fan base are morons. those who likes it, will generally be more open to other kind of music as well (and not just one genre).
some good songs on those albums, unforgiven 2 is the best song on those albums for me. mostly because the albums are neither heavy metal or thrash and most old tallica fans only like the first 4 albums.
because thrasher have shit taste in music, and are ignorant to the origins of thrash.
most the rest of the songs on the album are not good, the few songs i can think of of these two albums that i like are This, fuel, and memory remains.
Greatest Metallica music video of all time. Yeah, I said it !
IMO, this, fuel, the unforgiven three, and a few others, were basically the songs that kept me hanging as a fan through the Load/ReLoad era.
The Unforgiven III is from 2008
vvinenglish Sorry, I meant to say the unforgiven two.
Without a doubt my favourite Metallica song. It moves me every time I hear it. I would sell my house to see Metallica play live here in South Africa.
Greatest frontman in the world!
load is such an amazing album. it’s the only metal i can play around my friends because they think it’s country...
What did they think especially of “Mama Said” from the Load album?
@@MetallicaLive that's a lot like country too. Just not very alpha male.
Love it as much in 2024 as I did in 96. Was 36 yrs old then ;- )
Criminally underrated song. LONG LIVE METALLICA!! 🤘😈🤘
James Hetfield wrote this about his mother who had cancer tho. I've got full respect for this man.
Lifts my spirits everytime and cant help but listen at max volume!
This song speaks to me
+Zane Smith Unfortunately, to me too .

+Igor Sichko why unfortunately
