Brian's a beast, I have 2 disc he dyed. I meant to reach out to him for another one but then I decided to learn the way. Glad my friend shared this channel to me. Awesome,, awesome, awesome man!
You know all the big hitters out there! Brian is definitely a stud too, bagging on of his discs myself. I can tell you're going to make a welcome addition to the crew Pete, welcome bud!
Love how bro misplaced one of those first ink drops,, just like Simon!! But held it together and rolled with the punches!! Amazing work!!! Merry Xmas TDIDI Army!!!
A really smart teacher once told me, “The artistry is in the recovery.” Sometimes we’re going for something, and we screw up, or something doesn’t happen like we hoped it would. Oh well, make the most of it, and learn from your mistake to try and keep it from happening again. Merry Xmas to you too!
Most welcome Nicholas. Promise you won't regret it if you do. Don't be afraid to reach out if you have questions along the way either, happy to help where we can. Have fun!
Thank you for this video. Just finished and this is the best glue bed video I've found so far as a beginner to help me get started. Shame I found it after I just laid my first glue bed disc and was confirming what I've heard on how long to set it 😅
Glad you could dig it Chris! Brian is a real rockstar and one of the very best with these clear glue beds. Here's to all the rest of your dyes being real bangers!
What a great video! I’ve been following pipedreamer79’s glue bed tutorial on Reddit, and I’m stoked you featured him on your channel. By far my favorite dye method that’s easily achievable.
He's a total stud! I can definitely see his influences in your work. You've both been killing it recently. Loving the time lapses you're putting up. Keep Doing It bro!
@@TheDifferenceisDoingIt thanks man! I am having a lot of fun making these discs and videos too! Wouldn’t be where I’m at if I didn’t see your videos first. Keep it up!
These Poly dyes that Brian is using in the video, they are made to work with plastics. Some plastics work way better than other though, not 100% sure on the rollerblades. Worth a try though. Let us know us works out.
It's all just chemistry at the end of the day Justin. The dye react a bit differently with white glue than with clear glue making for different funky designs. As long as the dye (or dye mix) is in contact with the surface of the disc once you slap it in there, it should transfer give enough time.
Dang. when he flipped that disc over, I said "DAMN!", My eyes popped out of my head. Absolutely brilliant! By the way, have you thought of selling kits? You know, Glue, dye, etc in a kit. Everything you need to dye your own disc. I'd buy it and I'm sure others would too.
Had that same feeling, his saturation and design integrity every time is slamming! We're beating on the same drum with dye kit idea, been sorting something like that out for the website. Shipping flammable stuff though can be tricky. We'll figure out a way to make it all work soon enough.
Greazy’s putting out some new next level techniques. Looks like maybe some kind of oils might be involved, by the way the colors are pooling up and staying separate.
The acetone helps convert the powdered dye over to a liquid version that'll work in this kind of bed. I haven't played much with Rit in clear glue beds bud it works pretty well with white glue.
Curious has anyone ever had a problem with the glue in plumbing? I'm in an apartment so not really a concern if maybe only after years but I'd hate to damage home plumbing after years of glue clogging it. I guess easy enough to get a screen for the drain though
This video is super helpful! I just bought the stuff to dye some discs. The drops of dye kind of just sank to the bottom of the glue bed, do you know why that would be?
Hey now Max! Tough to say exactly without knowing the type of glue and the dye (or dye/mix) you're using. In general though you want the viscosity or thickness of the medium you're using in the bed to be higher than that of the dye/mix that's going on top to keep it on the surface. Hope that helps bud, feel free to shoot us a DM over on FB or IG if you want to hash it out some more.
I tried this method with synthetic rit dye but the dye droplets just sank to the bottom of the glue bed and when mixed just formed a new color, ie blue and yellow mixed to a nasty green. I must be missing something.
Yeah, I don't think Rit is the right dye for this method. I've had much more luck using it on white glue and lotion. Worm Dip, Pro Chem, and/or iDye Poly are your best options with clear glue. Hope that helps bud.
Not that I’ve noticed. Kastaplast is the biggest culprit with this silicone solution, and the finish/gloss on that plastic shows every little blemish and flaw. It feels like the same consistency and texture as the little makeup wedges that I use to wipe stamps. As far as I’ve been able to tell, that magic eraser doesn’t hurt the finish.
It's kind of running formula that I'm always adding more acetone or dye to as I go. But it usually starts out as 1/4 tsp of iDye (or ProChem) to 2 oz of acetone.
I haven't had much success mixing Rit Dyemore with acetone. That said, I've figured out some pretty cool stuff experimenting through ideas like that. I say give it try! Worst case you can always check out our Glue Beds with Tiffany Shaw video. She shares her dye mix that includes Rit and makes some pretty killer designs with it.
I'm so confused everyone talks about acetone eats plastic so don't use plastic. I'm good with that and it makes sense to me I store it all in glass, but it confuses me that the acetone I buy comes in a plastic container. Why does that plastic hold up to the acetone is it just a different type or something?
I can be a little confusing, but they make chem-safe plastic too. If you going to store acetone (or alcohol) mixes you want to make sure that's what it is, or glass like you said.
Love the videos! Please keep it up. Just curious, can you do an acetone mix with the worm dip or prochem? If so if there a ratio you could recommend? I apologize if you have already addressed this question. I'm doing water/idyepoly packets with good results but it doesn't get that oilslick effect on the glue bed. I'm wondering if that's what I'm doing wrong. Thank you again for this channel and all the information. Love the energy and positivity this channel brings.
Hey now Brian! Appreciate the kind words, happy to help where we can. You can indeed mix iDye and/or ProChem with acetone and use that. The ratios are an evolving beast, but I have them all list on the FAQs page of our website here if you want to check them out. www.thedifferenceisdoingit.com/faqs/
Check out the resources page on our website nckd1244. All of the dyes I use are broken down there with links to where you can pick them up. www.thedifferenceisdoingit.com/resources/
Everyone's plumbing situation is a little different, I'd hate to give bad advice there. That said I've been rinsing it down the utility sink in the basement with no problems. Safest move is probably just to let it dry and then throw it out.
The dye doesn't add any extra weight to the disc that is measurable, and the glue doesn't even come close to drying/hardening by the time you pull it out. All just rinses off.
So dope bro. Thanks for showing us how to do this. Can't wait to do this with my youth team (West Michigan Youth DGC). I'm gonna get so many rad coach bonus points. Does it just paint the surface or does it penetrate the plastic? I want to dye some plastic skate boots (rollerblades)
These Poly dyes that Brian is using in the video, they are made to work with plastics. Some plastics work way better than other though, not 100% sure on the rollerblades. Worth a try though. Let us know us works out.

Will this work with white glue? What’s the difference between clear and white glue?
It's all just chemistry at the end of the day Justin. The dye react a bit differently with white glue than with clear glue making for different funky designs. As long as the dye (or dye mix) is in contact with the surface of the disc once you slap it in there, it should transfer give enough time.
Is the color supposed to settle to the bottom of the glue or sit on top?
It should be resting on the top so that it's in contact with the disc when you send it in.

WHAT IS THE ACETONE FOR?? DOES RIT DYE WORK WITH GLUE??

Letting what's left dry out and then just chucking it works well...and makes some pretty cool looking clear glue patties.
