Beautifully constructed song. McCartney is brilliant at that, and word play. He will often put subtle, clever easter eggs in his songs that most listeners will miss, just because he can. This song, for example. You may notice that each verse starts with a word in the title: here, there, then everywhere.
I think Che noted a vital part of McCartney's genius, which is his sense of melody and harmony. And I'm glad you guys love his bass, which I have always thought is criminally underrated. Yeah, his melodies get into your head, and keep you company. If I recall correctly, McCartney said this is one of the very few songs Lennon complimented him on.

No one on the Beatles played bass like Paul on the Beatles. The Let It Be album was recorded live in the studio (and rooftop) so John and George had to fill in on bass when Paul was on keyboards. If you watch the Get Back documentary, you could tell both John and George hated playing bass. That's why Billy Preston's impromptu visit to the Beatles while they were recording Let It Be was such a godsend. The 1st song he played on in the studio with them was Don't Let Me Down. Lennon wanted to get tapes of their sessions on the song for him to listen, but George said just let him play along and see what happens. He nailed his part immediately. Paul, who is a great pianist himself, the look of awe and the smile on his face that he shoots to Billy is priceless...

One of the best songs ever written, imo. And yet, there was one group the Beatles looked up to: The Beach Boys. McCartney maintains that “God Only Knows” is the best pop song ever written. I would say “Warmth Of The Sun” is right up there with it. You guys should explore the genius of Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys.

I’m glad y’all noticed Paul’s excellence on the bass. I knew you would. He plays like no one else. It’s fluid and natural. He’s also the best guitarist in the band. He played bass because no one else wanted to. He’s one of those rare guys who can pick up any instrument and play it well almost immediately and pull new sounds and ideas out of it right after that. To me, this is the best album they ever made. Nearly flawless.

McCartney said "It’s actually just the introduction that’s influenced [by the Beach Boys]… John and I used to be interested in what the old fashioned writers used to call the verse, which we nowadays would call the intro…this whole preamble to a song, and I wanted to have one of those on the front of ‘Here, There and Everywhere.’ John and I were quite into those from the old-fashioned songs that used to have them, and in putting that [sings “To lead a better life”] on the front of ‘Here, There and Everywhere,’ we were doing harmonies, and the inspiration for that was the Beach Boys. We had that in our minds during the introduction to ‘Here, There and Everywhere.’ " He claimed to have come up with the song's chords while sitting next to the swimming pool at Lennon's house in Weybridge waiting for Lennon to wake up.

The Beatles forever clanged the way music was sold and consumed from the single song to the album as the artistic unit, but that hadn't happened yet when they were releasing all this stuff in just a few years. And they refused to put the songs they released as singles--arguably their BEST songs--on albums. "Paperback Writer"/"Rain" is the single thst came out of the sessions that yielded this album. Please check out "Don't Let Me Down" live in an impromptu rooftop concert in London in the winter cold. How great they sound under such conditions is absolutely amazing!
Also, their excellent cover of Motown's Smokey Robinson hit: "You've Really Got A Hold On Me" is spectacular!

The Beatles opened the US door for the British Invasion. They seemed to appear from nowhere and changed music forever.

Your observation of the sadness and yet happiness aspect of this and several other of their songs reminds me of the time the music critics were raving about their sophisticated composition skills not seen previously or with such frequency in pop music. Things like jumping from major to minor, changing key or time signature in odd places were among those things they seemed to do effortlessly. This one changes time signature 3 times in just the first three bars. It also uses a lot of minor chords when singing something that sounds hopeful. It kind of creates a melancholy mood.
Critic's ears started pricking up around the 'A Hard Days Night' album and they were going nuts by the time of this album for the most part. There were still a couple of squares who just couldn't get hip, man.
This was at one time John's favorite Paul composition. I believe this is also one of Paul's favorites as well.

You two are very good listeners. I'm remembering things I thought about these songs decades ago when I was learning them as a teenager.

I love your reactions to The Beatles music so much. Love all your reactions, but this music is different, as you said. I was 10yo when the Beatles came to America. The radio was always playing one of their songs. We all grew up listening to this beautiful music. Thank you for this one. ✌Hi from NYC.

As some have said, Paul was the king of melodies and harmonies. Between his time with the Beatles and his own as a solo artist, probably more hit songs with catchy melodies than any other artist. Elton John was also a Melody/Harmony genius.
