www.playbill.co... Seth Rudetsky asks Orfeh to recreate his favorite moments from "Saturday Night Fever" on Broadway, and confronts her about a Broadway urban legend.
@jon Janacek I met her when her album came out I said she would be amazing in wicked. She told me they won't hire for whatever reason. I think it might be because her "look" is Glenda
+Jae Mery Maybe she's too short? I know there's a height requirement for Elphaba. Having the "look" for Glinda doesn't automatically disqualify her from being an Elphaba (see Kerry Ellis).
Sorry, but her voice has the SOUL that Elphaba needs to have. While high belts are impressive, I am getting tired of hearing them on pingy, nasally voices, which has been the color of a lot of Elphaba's recently. Which is why most of the African American girls, especially Saycon and Dan'yelle, have been so perfect in the role. Give me the grit of Eden and Mandy any day, which Orfeh!!! I would, personally LOVE to see Orfeh in Wicked. She would kill it and ask questions later.
Orfeh is AMAZING! Saw her in Saturday Night Fever years ago on Broadway and she was definitely a stand out! Loved her rendition of "If I Can't Have You".
i have become recently OBSESSED with Orfeh's voice, she's like the Anastacia of the musical theatre world. I loved SNF when it was in the west end and on the tour, but no one came even close to the kind of vocal performance that Orfeh gives. thank God for UA-cam and those people that had the nouse to record tv promo slots and have now uploaded them here. here's the full version of Nights on Broadway performed by Orfeh and Paige Price on a tv show. enjoy. ua-cam.com/video/yB0KPqipcsw/v-deo.html
Why are these videos unlisted now ? I rather enjoyed watching his Obsessed videos! I'm glad I noticed and saved the link before I clicked off of it one day!
Yes obviously. But I mean as far as modern high belting that a previous commenter claims stemmed from Wicked, when in reality Funny Girl was the first score written for a belter where Ds and Es were written in a score. Merman did belt Ds and Es, but she would raise the keys of songs in order to do this (Everything's Coming Up Roses), songs weren't written that way. Merman's high belting was not standard.
Merman's belting was only Cs and Ds, I don't think she ever did Es (would be fine if I was proven wrong). Funny Girl started the belting craze, but Evita is the one that I think really started that kick.
I'm not talking about Idina i'm talking about the show. Before you could get away with having a solid belted 'c' or 'D'. After Wicked more and more shows are being written that require 'F's' and 'G's' But I do agree that ALW did make it to were the standard high belt was an 'E' and rarely higher like in Evita. But that's to Wicked you gotta have an 'F'.
writing a few Gs in a score doesn't mean he introduced the concept of high belting. Female belting has gone up to Fs for ages - even if you could prove that he introduced Gs (which I doubt, unless you have an encyclopedic knowledge of every musical ever written) ALW didn't do anything revolutionary in terms of female belting.
I absolutely demand Orfeh play Elphaba now. Change the keys if you have to, I just want to hear this woman work that score.
+Jon Janack As I was reading your comment, I imagined The Wizard and I with her voice/riffs.
Where do I get my tickets? haha
@jon Janacek I met her when her album came out I said she would be amazing in wicked. She told me they won't hire for whatever reason. I think it might be because her "look" is Glenda
Change the keys? Up? She has a G, so of course she has an F
+Jae Mery Maybe she's too short? I know there's a height requirement for Elphaba. Having the "look" for Glinda doesn't automatically disqualify her from being an Elphaba (see Kerry Ellis).
Uhm Donna Vivino played elphaba she was tiny......
I'm so depressed they never made a cast recording of Saturday Night Fever with Orfeh. Anyone have a audio bootleg?
Love, love love her look. Hair/ makeup/nails & outfit are on point! 👌
Man she’s got such a powerful voice
I love Orfeh it would be a dream to perform alongside her! She is such an amazing talent!
I'd see Ofreh as Elphaba 4382947382947 times per week
me too. OMG :)
Agreed and don't forget Patti Lupone's amazing belting without a microphone when she did Evita.
I didn't know she wasn't micd. That's awesome

I love Orfeh. Wonderful voice.

True

You are right it is not the only belt but it is the highest belt on Broadway

Doesn't Judy Garland count as a "belter"?
Thank you so much for that information.
You can find them all on his new website!
oh, I love her to pieces...
Hey I was the 900th like! Just so entertaining. When in doubt, find a Seth Rudetsky video and watch it.

To be honest I feel like her tone matches the way the wicked witch of the west would sound truly
This was hilarious!! :D
hi, myName is orfea, i,m brazilian
and i,m going to Sing Ireland at a musical. what. coincidense!#
What if I do an entire song just pointing upwards?
Les Mis was composed by Bublil and Schoenberg
THIS IS SO FUNNY!!!! I bought it as well! XD
i want her to play elphaba i would fly rom the uk to see that
Wow❤️❤️ awesome!
@SAsherK Les Miz isn't an ALW show.
belting was truly forever changed when Streisand stepped onto a Broadway stage. the end.
Love it! lol
Totally did not realize she was the same chick from snf
She sounds a lot like julia murney on the "tell them how i"
ermahgerd she should play erlphaber!
ALW did not write Les Mis.
What a pretty woman!!
Because she probably has some self-respect to not become a sell out.
I would love to hear a cover of orfeh on DG, but her style isn't what i think of for elphaba
whoah. whoah. whoah. ALW did not 'introduce' high female belting. That existed well before him.
Please don't accredit Les Mis to ALW.
Ah. no. Merman was and is the queen of Broadway belting.
writing a few Gs in a score doesn't mean he introduced the concept of high belting. Female belting has gone up to Fs for ages - even if you could prove that he introduced Gs (which I doubt, unless you have an encyclopedic knowledge of every musical ever written) ALW didn't do anything revolutionary in terms of female belting.
because she dosent look good in green !
Am I the only who's not impressed with her little riff. I'm sure it sounded good back in the day but this was not her day. So many h's.
Too much ghetto. That's not singing.
