I love Seth's reactions! And Eden's riff for The Wizard and I makes so much sense - it puts the top note of the phrase on a syllable which actually suits a high belt note, I'm warming to it as a better point of emphasis than Idina's leap on "things," and it's no higher than Idina's riff at the end of Defying Gravity anyway. I've taken Eden's high belting almost for granted, but what startled me is how much she opens her mouth on the low notes in I Dreamed A Dream. Makes me suspect she could easily go even lower.
I heard her character Cassandra sing on tonight’s Tangled episode and I was like woah that girl can sing. I had thought that she sounded like Idina Menzel and then googled her and found that she played Elphaba! I can’t believe I hadn’t heard of her before! I might even like her Elphaba more than Idina’s! Bravo!!
I love the story about how Eden developed that riff. I had no idea it was she who developed it; I've heard her sing it, but I'm more used to Jemma Rix singing it! Beautiful singing for 'I Dreamed A Dream'.
Does anyone else now listen to recordings of I Dreamed A Dream and expect it to just keep going up the octave like Eden does here?!?! Maybe I've listened to this to much!
in walks Jessica vosk, using Edens riff and is a legend now... its crazy how 1 stand in layed the ground work for somone years later to catapult into the limelight
I find it ironic that they told her that she was too young for Belle...when in literal Disney canon, Pocahontas is older. Even if she weren’t LITERALLY older, she always had the older soul vibe.
On the "Shame" scale, I would end it with the D instead of E flat (or another suggestion would be E if the next bar is raised a tone) on the B flat chord, just because E flat chord is coming up after and end it on E flat would bring the whole next verse to an octave higher which does not go with the song and/or lyrics.
It's spectacular of course, but it's not technically a "riff". More like a vocal flourish or just added note. If she had done a mellisam or a couple notes on one vowel, it'd be a riff/run.
I was thinking the same thing. Actually pulled up some clips of both of them singing songs from the show. Eden blows Idina out of the water. It’s crazy that she has ever been in Idinas shadow when I’m pretty sure OBJECTIVELY she is far superior.
Nameless L yeah that's a tasteless as hell addition. The slight ascension is nice because it leaves a feeling of emptiness remorse and nostalgia which compliment the song. Going up the full scale makes no sense at all emotionally and artistically with the song
The one that really pissed me off more than anything was in the episode with Mandy Gonzalez when Seth made up option up on the end of "I'm Not That Girl" and belt it. Ending that song on the low note adds such an empty, defeated type of energy to the whole moment. What is his obsession- every pun intended- with loud belting? It's ridiculous and so closed minded.
I keep playing the part where she sings "voices soft as thunder" over and over again. Ughhhh so good!

Seth roasting her headshots continues to make my life
she is so lovely!
Agreed she is marvelous
You are lovely
Eden’s F#5 “Things I’ve never felt” Riff is now used by Vosk,Fearn,Tucker, etc
eden is absolutely AMAZING. her riffs just can't be beat
I love Seth's reactions!

actually it's a half step higher but who's listening?
Actually Reggie is right she riffs to an F# and the highest note in defying gravity is an F so... sorry about it

dudeeee her wizard and i riff thooo. it gave me life.
I literally applauded.
If that riff was in I dreamed a dream, Susan Boyle wouldn't exist.
Eden is such an amazing Elphaba!
She was the Elphaba when I saw the show, probably 9 years ago.
I loved her as Maureen in, "Rent!"
no no, that’s Idina Menzel!
@@thomas965o Eden did that too. The best Maureen to me.
@@oskarschell8567 my mistake!
Actually heard this Wizard and I riff in the show over the weekend and got SO excited because I knew the backstory!
She was the Elphaba I had when I saw Wicked. She was amazing!
Lucky! She's my favorite Elphaba.
I met her in Chicago at the stage door for Falsettos. Her voice is amazing and she is soo nice.
This was just a whole roasting session on Eden…
My first Elphaba 💚 Summer 2006 NYC
Former classmate! Eden always had that big smile! Canyon High!
this proves she's not to old for the wicked movie :)
She is amazing!! I want her voice
Still, I only heard Cassandra. I have missed her already
SAME! NICE TO MEET ANOTHER FAN!😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
yea
@@Ryuu_Helluva_Hazbin_Fan oh yesss
really wish they could make a cassandra story line some day

THAT RIFF THOUGH 5:25
Eden is just amazing
I LOVE EDEN so much!!
I love her laughhh. Omg...
the same riff that Donna Vivino uses! love it!
in walks Jessica vosk, using Edens riff and is a legend now... its crazy how 1 stand in layed the ground work for somone years later to catapult into the limelight
Love Eden!
5:31 me to my family when i force them to watch anything theater related
I heard the Eden Riff in the current Sydney production :) gave me tingles
That octave-ending is Esponiscious!
Jessica Vosk does this riff (from what ive heard in videos) and it is BEAUTIFUL
Oh my god... I love her so much. I want to see her live!!!
THAT NOTE!!! Omg
She is SO adorable! I
But I like her headshots...
love you EDEN so happy i met you at the 10th ANN. performance of WICKED! :-)
Incredible incredible
oh god her laugh fits, adorable
I kinda wish Broadway let their performers have more leeway with the vocals. I think it lets people put their own personal spin on their character.
Eden is magical. Still×
I recall a few Amazing rifs she executed in Rent. Those moments are always some of my favorites. Very beautiful, fun, and gifted lady!
I get to see her in March in Falsettos and I'm so excited !
I find it ironic that they told her that she was too young for Belle...when in literal Disney canon, Pocahontas is older. Even if she weren’t LITERALLY older, she always had the older soul vibe.
Oh, Seth, honey. What exactly do you have against a Low-E???!? XD
(In my world, an E3 scares me MUCH less than a F#5!!) ;)
And now every Elphaba has put I'm Not That Girl on their album LOL.
I'd like to see her do The Wizard and I on one ;)
Cute vid! Fun!! Met this lovely lady in Nashville during Evita with Studio Tenn.
SETH is a musical genius!!
I wish I could go back and see both Idina Mendel and Eden Espinoza in wicked. I hear that Idina was a tremendous Elphaba!
Don't ever start the end of Wiz 'n I and deny us the finale! My world is upside down! Gimme the CADENCE!
Benjamin Akre calm down, you ARE OUT OF CONTROL!!!!
best part is Eden saying "I hate you" at 5:57 😂
An amazing Trina on the falsettos tour!!
She voices Cassandra
I LOVE how seth is as extra as my friends, we're always belting everything for no reason
Eden is my favorite Elphaba. hahah Ariel on Broadway went to my all time favorite Broadway woman Sierra Boggess!
I love how he gets so frustrated.
I would pay just to listen to her practice scales!
This is so hilarious and wonderful in one AH-MAH-ZING package!!!
I just fully LAUGHED OUT LOUD. The brilliance. Can't stop it.
When the F#5 sounds better than the C5!!!!!! She’s incredible
5:26 F#5
But, if it's a semitone higher, its a G5
If it was a 2nd semitone higher it's G#5
That scale! Oh my God! I couldn't stop laughing.
Wow!
LOVE
It's a great album.
Best Maureen 100%
dang, I can't even belt the last note of "shame" in the normal version 😩🙈😝
Why 😨 ? That's low af
That was hilarious
what is seth saying at 1:43-1:45?
"i thought the reason why they made you pocahontas was because you were an ethnic-ess(?)"
thank u
She SHOULD play Fantine!
7:22
You're welcome
I love Edie’s(that’s my nickname for her)Hannah Montana styled haircut
EDEN CAN I BE YOU
okay i gotsta go
Last riff was so underpitch those first four notes dannggg
actually she just wasn't warmed up. i'd like to hear you belt that high better than her. i'll wait.
Reggie Black that high? Lol?? That's not even remotely high for even a contralto
Anyone else think she could be Idina's sister?
A melody change is not a riff. Hm. It is fierce as hell though.
Wow!!! Wow!!! Is she human????
😂 “for realsies”
the best!! hahaha
Wait, she got cast as Fantine but couldn't do it - why??
😂😂😂
I actually think her short hair looks great. You have to have a great face to pull off really short hair and she does.
But julia murney recorded I'm not that girl!!
Oh Seth, I love you so, I only wish I didn't have trouble following you because you talk so darn fast, man!
sad that she didn't get to play ariel just cuz she "looked too ethnic". i would've much preferred her to originate the role of ariel over sierra bogus
That's rather rude, I thought Sierra did a wonderful job. She is super talented. . .
at least spell her name right it's boggess, and sierra is a much younger better fit for the role of a disney character.
Reggie Black Well, that was a joke. Do you not know the English word "bogus"...? Hahaha
and I thought defying gravity was hard...... lol
Hmm Maybe she needed to warm up.
*******]
Some people are convinced that "white" isn't ethnic - as if everyone else is an other.
seriously? That's lame he doesnt know that california has disneyLAND not disneyWORLD.
Seth frfr talks to much dang lol.
This is so uncomfortable. He is so rude.
Such a joke that she was the standby for Shrieky Menzel. 🙄
I was thinking the same thing. Actually pulled up some clips of both of them singing songs from the show. Eden blows Idina out of the water. It’s crazy that she has ever been in Idinas shadow when I’m pretty sure OBJECTIVELY she is far superior.
Mmmm. No. That Fantine goes up like Seth suggested is just obnoxious. Singing high doesn't mean good. I didn't like the The Wizard and I riff neither.
Nameless L yeah that's a tasteless as hell addition. The slight ascension is nice because it leaves a feeling of emptiness remorse and nostalgia which compliment the song. Going up the full scale makes no sense at all emotionally and artistically with the song

Wow. Talk about a boring interview. Seth tried his hardest but she's just so pompous.
