I can't remember a time in my nearly 60 years of seeing another Quiz Show where by both the cast and it's host are so keen in ability of doing each other in (cause them to break out in full body fit/spasms of laughter) Not only do I approve of this 100%, I also give a tip of my hat as a salute of gratitude for their entertaining efforts.

When I was in primary school for my first nativity, I had beautiful blond ringlets and I was cast as Mary. A week or so before the play I cut my hair and had a pageboy cut, I was made the Innkeeper instead of Mary. Apparently I was annoyed by this, so when it came time for me to say 'no room at the Inn' I told them they could make themselves at home, and shot daggers at the teacher.

I can match you on this, and go one further in the 'resentment stakes'. When I was very little I had lots of white blonde curls - which absolutely Everybody would not only comment on, but also want to touch. I got very tired of this and one day reached the final straw. Was standing at a bus stop with my mother, when a man standing next to us said;" Hasn't your little boy got lovely curls!" and reached down and patted my head. Talk about a step Too FAR! Not only unsolicited touching - but little girls definitely don't like being mistaken for a boy! Allegedly... I turned and promptly bit him in the knee. He was lucky I was only Three! 🤣

in austria he's still totally cool and popular. all kindergardeners make their lanterns for the "laternenfest" ❤ also, baking "martinskipferl" (small, scone-like pastry) is very traditional. and you always share yours with your family/loved ones. like st.martin did (he also offered his coat to a freezing poor person) so there you go. i love it. much better than some newer traditions 😊

In Germany it's also still a thing (in parts of it at least). It was always fun to craft laterns, walk around the neighbourhood in the evening and sing to the neighbours. The loooooads of candy you received were nice too, I guess... ;oD

The dislike of Brussel Sprouts is entirely due to British domestic "cooks" boiling the bejeebers out of them.

In my country they celebrate martins day. Schools have some activities and there is a special market (like Christmas market there is martins market with autumn specific goods). It's because we are pagan country so we hold strong to those pagan celebrations (all those Christian Easter, Christmas, saint this or saint that days are pagan celebrations that christians incorporated into their religion as means to convert pagans, funny enough they ended up corrupting their own religion instead, now barely any christians know that Christmas originally has nothing to do with Jesus and he wasn't even born then but they actually celebrate christianized pagan gods festival)

I'm Dutch and we have St. Maarten on the 11th of the 11th, children with Balloons go around and ring doorbells to sing a St.Maarten song to collect candy or fruits. F.e (translation)".St Maarten, St. Maarten . The cows have tails, and the girls all wear skirts. There arrives St.maarten"" But sadly this tradition has fallen in a bit of disuse because of the Americanisation of just about anything, in this case, because of Halloween.

Sinte sinte mikmak, je moeder is een dikzak, je vader is een dunnetje, geef me een pepermunnetje.
[your mother is a fatty, your father is a skinny one, give me a peppermint.]
I remember occasions where my mother had forgotten about it, so we didn't have any candy to give, and we had to turn off the lights, sitting in the dark for hours pretending we were not at home. :0

My understanding is that citrus fruit was considered a treat during the harsh winter of Christmastime, so it was a nice thing to find in a stocking. I also wonder if maybe it helped to give an otherwise mostly-empty stocking some weight to add to a child's excitement.
