    Man, I've been reading your texts for 10 years but never saw your face.
    Greetings! You are one of my favourite thinkers 🚀
    I even bought your book and audiobook to support you despite the fact it's US focused and I live in the EU.

    So Tim, do you frankly think you "watching the match on the moon" whatever that means, is worth 3500 USD ? I would have expected that with it, you watch the match as if you are in the field. Anyways, it's a rich boy's problem. For that price, I would expect it to be a car, computer, watch, phone, and why not a house ? But it appears to be only a toy for rich kids. Anyways, that's the world we live in.

      @@Dionyzos Text is one of the the big things for me. I could justify buying a VR set -- instead of a big screen -- if I could really work with it the whole day (text crisp enough, headset light enough, and maybe hot-swapable batteries).

    I'd like to be able to change my work environment, that's for sure. But is the text really crisp enough to type the whole day? And how do you deal with the short battery life, when you can't even hot-swap the attached battery?

    It's great for productivity increases especially for office workers. Even with today price I can see it will be cheaper to buy these then to setup workspace per each person. In future once it's smaller, more durable, or even build in helmet like motorbike, imagine working on construction site with plans always available, or repairing cars having their manual in front of them while lying under the car... Let's see if it will survive the hype and will stay as a new tool/device.. so many possibilities.... Main question is can our eyes take it, and for how long?

    Thanks. I am curious as how easy is it to copy and paste, drag and drop between apps. My work scenario is typically requires grabbing content (images) and dropping them into InDesign or FCPX or doing research in Safari(with multiple windows open) or taking material in Notes and pulling the content into an InDesign document. I have two 5 K monitors now, but frequently find my working windows overlapping and getting lost. The ability to spread them out is very attractive if I can readily move content from one spatial window to the next. Any thoughts as to how well that will work?

    Can't really decipher how it makes sense for the price tag it comes with, Tim. Changing workspace background or realm seems cooler now, but over time it would be pretty boring as there's no new element to it, besides the same audio / visual effects in those backgrounds. Think of it as new animated desktop wallpaper, exciting today certainly not after 15 days. Anyways I'm happy that you're enjoying it and sharing your experiences.

    All I honestly care about in the first place is the health of our eyes. How does it impact them long term? Only time will tell.
    Now, it is an interesting device: very dystopian. Gives me chills. I’m getting old.
    V1 you see the game in a huge screen on the Moon. V10 do you watch the game as if you’re there?
    I was thinking this… maybe we need special technology to record things to recreate the experience of completely giving us the perception of being inside the shot.

      The lenses actually increase the focal distance to 1-2m in VR headsets so you're not looking at a display right in front of your eyes. For comparison, we usually sit closer to normal monitors.
      One could think it's still problematic to look at a fixed object for hours on end but if you're fully grown, it isn't as bad as it sounds. Children and teenagers whose eyes are still developing could become short sighted when using VR for long stretches of time though.

    Finding it very difficult to not be cynical about this thing. What’s the point? A new type of external monitor that makes you less focused on the work you’re actually doing? One that makes a pointless but comfy office job more bearable?

    • @Dionyzos
      @Dionyzos 7 місяців тому +11

      I'm a VR and tech enthusiast so take this with a grain of salt. First off, I don't see how this makes you less focused. You can procrastinate without it just as well. If anything, it enables you to create a virtual space that's made for work and work alone. Like James Clear explained in Atomic Habits, using different spaces for specific activities makes it easier to focus and build habits.
      But the most fascinating part about VR/AR are the endless possibilities it creates, most of which haven't been discovered yet. You can virtually travel to different places, you can fully immerse yourself in a game or movie. People fear that it will isolate us, but I think the opposite could be the case. We are already consuming content all day long at home or on our phones, mostly alone. In VR, you can enter a virtual space together with friends and do this together. It's basically virtual teleportation like Cleo Abrams explained in her latest video.
      Right now, apps are 2D in 3D Space, but it doesn't have to be this way. Apps will be designed completely differently with 3D in mind in the future. Websites will be made of 3D elements. Imagine shopping online while seeing the products in 3D.
      I enjoyed gamifying my fitness when I had my Quest 2, it made me more motivated to get physical and even normal VR games felt like a workout, I was moving more.
      Like I said, the possibilities are endless. Just google "possibilities of VR", people have already come up with the wildest ideas.

    • @emrico
      @emrico 7 місяців тому +2

      @@Dionyzos It makes you less focused because it shouldn't matter if you're in the Andes or a grassy field in England or wherever if you're writing a book, you should be looking at words and concentrating, not passively enjoying a landscape. Not sure about the travelling thing either, it's just a new kind of screen, and I'm sure with the years and decades they'll get very realistic, but it's still a screen. Immersing yourself in a fantastical landscape from a game or a movie could be cool but again, what's the point? Fictional worlds through games and movies are magical because the director/designer decides meticulously what to show and not show. That's why 360 cameras are not cinema cameras. Amazon in VR on a headset sounds like pure hell to me.

    • @lunakid12
      @lunakid12 7 місяців тому +4

      What do you mean "what's the point"? You've just been fed an entire video spelling out all the things you can do with it to vastly enhance just about anything you normally do with a computer.
      Is it bettet for everything? Of course not. Does that make it "pointless"? Oh, come on, don't waste eveybody's time.

    • @emrico
      @emrico 7 місяців тому +1

      @@lunakid12 Technology should make humans do useful things they were unable to do before. That's what great technology did through time. This headset does nothing particularly new or useful. It's just a cool computer monitor, and as shiny and sleek as it is, considering its price, I'm not terribly excited. The fact that it's from Apple adds that little extra cynicism, because Apple used to be a company that made great technology for (mostly) the masses.
