I am a gemstone collector and she’s talking about the blue garnet. I have several small pieces of of the loose stones and I also have two pairs of 14 karat gold blue garnet earrings. I bought those several years ago when right after they started bringing it out of the ground and I still have them. I have collected gemstones since 2001 so it’s been way over 20 years and I have got quite a collection.

I LOVE Garnet. It is one of my favorite stones. I am a Canadian, and I was so interested to learn that Hessonite Garnet can be found here. I am a new collector but some of my favorite and most prized gems I have collected are my 30 carat Hessonite, my two Russian Demantoids ( one has the horsetail inclusion) and my two tsavorites. I agree that the color and sparkle of the tsavorite rivals emeralds. I have always preferred the color of the garnet to that of ruby. I have two rubies in my collection now but it is hard to get good quality in my price range so I prefer my garnets. I am also falling for spinel and tourmaline too. Such a beautiful wide range of color.
I enjoy watching you two ladies. Your videos have been educational and very helpful. Please keep up the good work.

a really top notch ruby/emerald is something to behold...but as you said they are cost prohibitive and a top notch garnet is better than reasonably priced rubies/emeralds...

Hello dear how are you? I like how you people elaborated garnet and their types. I come across some gem Stone recently which I suspected to be a garnet, dark brown in colour and over 70 carat. I need some encouragement, because I am one of those people that like gem stones and looks for them anywhere I go.

I have to agree with you both when it comes to Tsavorite and emeralds! They’re far more a delicious forest green colour. I’ve got two beautiful cut stones in my collection.

The word is roiled effect for hessonite. Hessonites may display a visual effect that resembles roiled or disturbed water within the stone.

I thought the blue garnet was a myth but glad to hear its true! Glad i came across your channel got a sub!
I have a very nice sized tsavorite garnet. So nice that i only wear it on very special occasions. If no occasion special enough it is always in my personal safe!

It's so rare it could almost be myth! Very lucky I got to see some in person :)

Oh, by far, much better than emerald! I love when people state that about other gemstones, and then they have the comeback of "I love so/so more than emerald when so/som comes with emerald cut"
Always! I love others who know their minerals!

Thanks for the education. Nice job. Was cleaning up surface scratches and indents on a couple of rough Spessartites tonight. Then I got curious and weighed them afterwards. They both came out about 36 Carats each after cleanup from 45 and 45.5 Carats each.
My question is; Would you recommend trying to get a couple of 10 Carat Gems out of them, or getting them cut into single stones each? What will bring the best Value?
They each will make great Fancy Cuts such as the Cleopatra eye. But do you think standard cuts such as Round Brilliant or Oval Cushion will make them more marketable?
Or should I just send them to you to take it up from where I am now? Lol. Excitingly awaiting your response. Thanks in advance.

Personally, as much as I love garnets,
it's too hard to pick just one favourite.
I'm torn between red spessartite garnets, and, pale pastel-coloured pyrope garnets.
I've been looking for truely colourless pyrope garnets to add to my collection for years now, but, as yet, I unfortunately haven't been able to find any.

That was a nice one! I hope you keep doing those videos about various gems, including the ones that are less common in high-end jewelry.
Although I gotta say, good old pyrope with melee diamonds used to be quite popular in Poland, and in my opinion rightfully so, cause its deep redness is trully majestic. On the other hand, I somehow cannot get on the tsavorite bandwagon. I suppose it works better in jewelry, but from purely aesthetic point of view I don't think it tops peridot in the vivd green category.

    • @DominiqueFlux

Yes I think garnet with diamonds and yellow gold looks great! For this video I really wanted to show the less commonly know types because it has such varieties!

At the finest qualities the emeralds are the most beautiful and the green diamonds and green jadeite. These stones have a glow in them almost like neon green or glow in the dark colors. When it comes to green garnets my fave is the demantoid if its color is a vivid grass green.

Hi Dominique great video. Ive just come across your channel. Can you clarify the Blue vanadium coloured Garent was she saying is worth 900-2k usd per carat? There was one that went 1.5m USD per carat in 2003. Did she mean the Blue Garent which turns to brown is worth up to 2k.
There is a 16.71 carat Blue Garnet coloured with vanadium changes to Green blue im aware of, certified with IGI. Would it possible to arrange a zoom with your FGA gemologist to show you both??

However--- I'm slightly saddened to see that you did not cover the Idaho Star Garnet... the most beautiful of both garnets and Starred gems...in my humble opinion 😅. Not exactly surprised though, as it is rarer than Star rubies and sapphires...and has been depleted for decades.
I cut cabochons from material from the original find from 80 years ago.... would love to share photos with you!!

Etsy sells fiery orange spessarite rings for $3000 to 5000. Is this a ripoff? One ring they want $10 500 for 4 carats, so $2500 carat. 10 times what u quoted.

For high quality, the price can go up. It is hard to find with little inclusions in higher carat weight so if the stone is nice it could be very possible. I would simply ask for an appraisal at that price point . They will tell you the market value
