Wait for it. You said that, and I immediately thought of "Unless you're the Mongols" CrashCourse. I love your programs. I really like these because they don't drop the specific information for the sake of being entertaining, and yet still can add in fun bits every once in a while. I enjoy learning this way, thank you for helping me become a better scholar.
Thank You Hank for acknowledging the constant change in our understanding of the world. It amazes me that even just 5 years after this video went up, the taxonomic system has changed so much that my college Biology of Organisms course has to teach an entirely new classification. Science has made a victory in the description of Supergroups and the integration of the meltingpot that was kingdom Protista into groups which better fit their traits and evolution (just as you hinted might be a good idea).
Hank! So I used to watch all crash course videos, but then I only watched the history ones - and the I saw you talking to John and saying that biology got lots less views than history so I started watching biology again and I'm so glad! There so wonderful ANSI rally Lerner a lot. Thank you so much for making such wonderful content xxx
I feel like such a nerd since I'm not watching this for an actual class (even though I'm taking Biology this year, I am a Freshman and not in anything advanced unless you count Honors), and I'm watching it for fun.
I love using your crash course videos for studying. They are interesting and full of important details for review and overviews. Keep up the good work. PS. Your brother does a great job with the history videos. You two are great.
Did you know that Carl Linnæus is on the swedish 100 kr bill? (Or, for now, at least. The apperance of our bills will change pretty soon. Linnæus will be replaced by the actress Greta Garbo.) Also, it's feels so strange to hear the name 'Carl Linnæus'. I've always refered to him as Carl von Linné (which is the name he got after his enoblement. It's also much more commonly used in Sweden.)
oh my! my favorite branch of biology...... learning taxonomy, cladistics, and phylogeny is learning everything in the history of life itself.................
I find it quite funny that Bio-lography is the same book but with a different cover each time. It's probably obvious and I sound like and idiot pointing it out but WHATEVER.
Naomi van den Berg like the Venus Fly Trap. It still is a heterotroph since it eats organisms like flies. I’m not sure about if they create their own food.
I find four, five and six kingdoms when looking for what is the most common and latest understanding. A new college Biology textbook is vague on the subject. Plants, fungi, and animals and probably protists.
FUN FACT!! Our boy Carl isn't actually called Linnaeus anymore. He was ennobled and is now known as Carl von Linné. There is a museum dedicated to him in Uppsala and about 10 years ago (2007) all of Sweden celebrated his 300:ed birthday.
Wow, I remember learning about 5 kingdoms when I was in about 8th grade or so. I believe monera was included. Also I believe there were 4 oceans...and 9 planets. I wonder how many other things I've learned have become outdated.
Because gene sequencing technology and computer technology are a lot more advanced, taxonomic ranks are currently in a state of flux, at least in the right parts of academia. Depending on which professor you ask, there are now somewhere between 4 and 13 kingdoms, Protista was broken up (some going to new kingdoms and some going to existing ones), Plantae was expanded to include some kinds of algae, Fungi and Animalia were merged together, with some others, to make a new kingdom with a name that i can't remember (and most people can't remember).
Question: Humans are also classified in the class Mamalia, so does our arm / leg hair count as "fur"? Or is fur not a requirement for the Mamalia class?
I love these programmes, i cant wait to reproduce so i can expose my projeny to them. P.s. Could you do one on, how spelling works? English Crash cource? Im a native speaker and i cant spell to save my life, but i can now recount how The Mongals are the exeption to most historical rules, and Carbon is a Slut... well done people keep'em comming
Each category is based on evolutionary traits. Have we figured out when these traits were first expressed, and that date should correlate to where that branch of the Taxa-tree starts.
"Taxonomy" is not only the classification of living things, but rather the classification of things in general. One should use "*biological* taxonomy" if the context of living things is not implied.
Hi Hank, at my high school we have biology finals coming up and many of us are confused about operons such as the lac and trp operons and what they are comprised of and their functions. Any chance you can make a video about them and/or respond to this comment explaining them? Thanks!
Who else watching this for a test coming up?
meeeeee. Freshman Bio
Me. Field plant taxonomy.
TrollBronze lol yep.
Me :P
Holy crap yeah!
I like how this channel never does clickbait
"Gotta organize'em all!" - Linneaus
+Diego Leal I think "Gotta sort'em all!" sounds better...
Diego Leal
I wanna be, the very best, sorter there ever was!
The science of Pokemon Classification nice Pokemon reference btw
He wanted to be the very best, like no one ever was.
@@deeyakaur impressive!
All around are biology students, cramming info

Even Historical geology students
How did your test go?
Wait for it.
You said that, and I immediately thought of "Unless you're the Mongols"
CrashCourse. I love your programs.
I really like these because they don't drop the specific information for the sake of being entertaining, and yet still can add in fun bits every once in a while. I enjoy learning this way, thank you for helping me become a better scholar.
Dear Hank,
Can we get a Crash Course Biology II?
Best Wishes!
John Newman
I have the APBIO Exam tomorrow so thanks for posting all of these videos, including this one because it's so much to memorize.
I think what you meant to say was, "Wait for it- the Mongols."
Start the Mongoltage!
"Unless you're a sponge" is the new "except for the Mongols"
Biology final, anyone?
that's why im here.
+KT Katana Good luck. :)

97% Yay!!
yip in a week
Hank: let’s pick this kitty
ME: yeesssss
I feel like such a nerd since I'm not watching this for an actual class (even though I'm taking Biology this year, I am a Freshman and not in anything advanced unless you count Honors), and I'm watching it for fun.
PikaCrafter cool story
fun.
Me too!!
you are fantastic Hank, don't ever stop teaching
I love using your crash course videos for studying. They are interesting and full of important details for review and overviews. Keep up the good work. PS. Your brother does a great job with the history videos. You two are great.
Thank you for making my science class so much easier to understand!
Randomly came here because I'm studying to clep biology and OH MY GOSH It's Hank Green! Instantly 1,000x more interested in this because it's Hank.
Did you know that Carl Linnæus is on the swedish 100 kr bill? (Or, for now, at least. The apperance of our bills will change pretty soon. Linnæus will be replaced by the actress Greta Garbo.)
Also, it's feels so strange to hear the name 'Carl Linnæus'. I've always refered to him as Carl von Linné (which is the name he got after his enoblement. It's also much more commonly used in Sweden.)
I don't know why, of all subjects in biology, this is somehow the one that leaves me desperately grasping for memories in exams.
When he said taxidermy instead of taxonomy.... dying laughing :D
Accidentally watched this at 2x speed. It was amazing. Hank's practically vibrating.
oh my! my favorite branch of biology...... learning taxonomy, cladistics, and phylogeny is learning everything in the history of life itself.................
From my 7th grade life science teacher...
Kids (Kingdom)
Playing (Phylum)
Cards (Class)
On (Order)
Freeways (Family)
Get (Genus)
Smashed (Species)
Domain could be "dumb"
There is everything from Literature to Psychology, but I think a math segment of some kind would be pretty helpful to a lot of people.
Thank you for your humor. My middle schooler is LOVING these!
Oh yeah, the actual content is really cool too! ;-)
If we find life on other planets that started independently, will we need another classification beyond domain? What would it be?
Dear all the people trying to correct Hank Green;
If you're so smart, why the hell are you here?
Sincerely,
the rest of us.
Nice one
Amen
blooms454 why thank you
Finally, someone understands my annoyance with all these people correcting him!
You saying people shouldn't try to correct him? What?
Hank, you are so much more better than my science teacher. Thanks for helping me with my revision for my GCSE exam... :)
studying for exams and im using all of your biology videos, thanks dude
DUDE! I have an exam on Friday... THANKS FOR THIS!
Excellent job young man. Very lively presentation for those who get easily bored, like me.
MY SCIENCE TEACHER SHOWED US THIS IN SCIENCE TODAY AND I WAS CONTEMPLATING IF THIS WAS HANK OR NOT. DAMN IM SO HAPPY TO FIND OUT THAT IT INDEED WAS
thank god for this, have bio test on tuesday and this helps sooo much.
these videos have helped me learn more about binomial nomenclature
I like watching your videos in my 9th grade Biology class. I learn way easier.
Great Video :) I learnt lots for my science test tomorrow and this video helped me a lot so thanks dude
I'm watching this for a test but it's so good I'd simply watch for knowing the subject. Luv these videos, specially phylosophy
I didn't pay attention because I was obsessing over the kitty
hank actually sniffed at the same time i smelled my moms cooking at 2:22
i hate solanum caule inermi herbaceo, foliis pinnatis incisis
cant help to notice that the birth mark on your neck switches sides! also great videos helping sooo much!!!
Slime mould is freaking adorable, Hank.
Please make an updated version!
9:57 cue the sponge-tage
Watched CC Bio back in HS and now doing it again for college...
I guess I’m the only nerd on here for fun
You're holding the cat wrong Hank XD
A really great video - learning A level biology at home - on the computer, so this is really helpful. thank you.
this is good information if a quiz comes up
This is still helpful to this day.
you can remember by:
king(kingdom)
phillip(phylum)
came(class)
over(order)
for(family)
good(genus)
soup(species)
I find it quite funny that Bio-lography is the same book but with a different cover each time. It's probably obvious and I sound like and idiot pointing it out but WHATEVER.
an*
I love bio lography its like bed time stories but in a scientific way
What about flesh-eating plantae? They don't create their own food yet they aren't heterotrophs, are they?
Naomi van den Berg like the Venus Fly Trap. It still is a heterotroph since it eats organisms like flies. I’m not sure about if they create their own food.
Highspeedgaming Channel They can make their food. They are green: contain chloroplasts .
I enjoy your videos so much. I watch them just to learn and since they actually make me laugh they are an instant go to. Thank you!
I had no idea he would use a cat an example. It so cuddly.
i love your vids and believe all of them you help me in class the most just remember that you are a hero
Best Video of 2016
Sponges, the biological exception as in the case of the Mongols. I love crash course.
These vids are literally saving my ass in first year university.
Anyone from 2023?
Super helpful video 🎉
I find four, five and six kingdoms when looking for what is the most common and latest understanding. A new college Biology textbook is vague on the subject. Plants, fungi, and animals and probably protists.
It's exciting to learn
Who else is watching this and has a test coming up ?😂
i just love this guy and his sarcasm
"...but it lived, and I dig that."
Sometimes I feel like the only person who appreciates this guy's humor. XD
Every time I hear 'Tree of Life", I think of Yggdrasil.
FUN FACT!! Our boy Carl isn't actually called Linnaeus anymore. He was ennobled and is now known as Carl von Linné. There is a museum dedicated to him in Uppsala and about 10 years ago (2007) all of Sweden celebrated his 300:ed birthday.
It's 2:18 and Hank sounds like he's about to kill me and if giving his crazy super villain monologue
KIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hank,
Great work PLEASE keep it up!!
thanks for helping me study for my exam
If you hold a cat like that, you are doing it wrong. Cats are not baby humans.
behold she walks among us. the cat whisperer
True, but some tolerate or enjoy it. Cause they're freaks. (Clearly not Hank's cat, though!)
Beccy A my cat absolutely loved to be held like this. it's actually the only way I could hold her.
Wow, I remember learning about 5 kingdoms when I was in about 8th grade or so. I believe monera was included. Also I believe there were 4 oceans...and 9 planets. I wonder how many other things I've learned have become outdated.

PLUTO NOOOOOOO!!!
9:36 - I beg to differ. There are some extremely adorable bacteria out there.
Question: Humans are also classified in the class Mamalia, so does our arm / leg hair count as "fur"? Or is fur not a requirement for the Mamalia class?
I'm slightly disappointed that Cameo isn't listed as a cameo on the credits slide...
Can you please do a video on water movement through the plant and gas exchange?
SGFOCPK(species genus family class phylum kingdom) OR SGFOCDK (D- division)
Wow this guy is great, why cant "teacher's" communicate information like this?
I love these programmes, i cant wait to reproduce so i can expose my projeny to them.
P.s. Could you do one on, how spelling works? English Crash cource? Im a native speaker and i cant spell to save my life, but i can now recount how The Mongals are the exeption to most historical rules, and Carbon is a Slut...
well done people keep'em comming
Each category is based on evolutionary traits. Have we figured out when these traits were first expressed, and that date should correlate to where that branch of the Taxa-tree starts.
I love the crackly quality of your voice!
good for tests and quizzes
Hank, it’s been seven years. I’m still waiting for that pillow for my cat.
Why would you want to degrade someone based on the way they teach while your watching a video about biology for FREE.
When he said "unless you're, wait for it..." I was expecting him to say the Mongols
"Taxonomy" is not only the classification of living things, but rather the classification of things in general. One should use "*biological* taxonomy" if the context of living things is not implied.
Yeah. I had no idea this was about biology. "Crash course biology" could mean anything.
Why does everyone hate taxonomy, taxonomy is THE BEST THING EVER -signed, possible reincarnation of Linnaeus
really enjoy ur videos,thanks dude
Thank you for this I watch these videos and learn a lot. My zoology teacher is garbage.
When Hank was talking about cross-stitching words onto a pillow in that voice he did, he sounded like Caboose from Red vs. Blue
Hi Hank, at my high school we have biology finals coming up and many of us are confused about operons such as the lac and trp operons and what they are comprised of and their functions. Any chance you can make a video about them and/or respond to this comment explaining them? Thanks!
I get to watch this video as a Biology homework assignment.
Hello Ms. Orman's Class!
what school
Anyone else just having a tough time atm
Is monera still considered a kingdom?
I wonder if protists, rather than being a separate domain, are simply more basal cousins of the other eukaryote domains?
your should stick a link to brainscoop in at the taxidermy slip :)
Thanks. Very helpful for a huge essay
this is so helping for me :)) i can study without the teacher
