Most important when drilling stainless steel use a low speed and sufficient pressure to keep the drill cutting. As soon as a drill slips or overheats, stainless becomes very hard and resists cutting, often destroying the drill bit repeatedly.

This is better than not sharpening it but you can sharpen a drill bit on a bench grinder or with a hand grinder clamped to a bench in 1/10 the time. I have hand sharpened 100's of drill bits by hand and never had to go thru all these extra steps. Also keep a bowl of water handy to make sure you dont overheat the drill bit while sharpening.

  • @gerardvandijk6807

Or.... how NOT to sharpen a drill bit...... Unprotected grinder, unprotected fingers, overheated drill, end result is a drill that makes triangular holes because the center of the drill bit is out of the middle. Better invest in a special drill bit sharpening adapter for a bench grinder or a special bench grinder for drill bits and chain saw chains. And use a cutting / cooling liquid from the start in stead of when the drill starts overheating. The basic principle of how the guy sharpens the bit is correct.

Sharpen on a bench grinder. Check that the point is central and the flutes have the same height by holding the drill up to the light. Slow down the speed and keep an even pressure. Drill all the way in one pass. Very likely this drill cuts oversized because he didn’t check the point is central.

Merhaba, öncelikle iş güvenliği bakımından mengenenin tezgah tablasına bağlanması gerekir. Matkap sıkışırsa mengeneyi elle tutamazsınız. Kaza olur. Kolay gelsin.

@@janmaciejewski1058 I spent maybe 20 years in the machine tool industry as a machinist toolmaker. There are dozens of kinds of tool steels. A HSS cutting tool does not distemper when heated to blue. Other steels like A5, A6, D2, O1, 4140 etc., will because they temper in the range of 350F
However you can get cutting tools Especially off the flea-bay that are sold as HSS but are not. They are some chinese crap.
There are lots of reasons to go slow when cutting metals: the machine is not sufficiently rigid machine to allow you to take heavy or high speed cuts and the vibration will ruin your tools. The heat and pressure at the fine cutting edge will destroy that edge, The Coolants and or cutting lubes are inadequate. On my milling machine the coolant makes all the difference in the world. I can run about twice as fast and take about twice the depth of cut using a synthetic coolant/lube mist as opposed to high sulfur cutting oils brushed on by hand.

A loose vise will dull a drill bit quicker than drilling stainless steel. Plus the drilling machine is not powerful enough or the belt drive is slipping. Not enough coolant. Instead of tidying up the dull drill bit he chopped it flat wasting time and effort not to mention removed a lot of the material from the bit to enhance the starting of the drilling procedure causing more heat due to less material to absorb the heat. If he owns an angle grinder why not just clamp it to the bench with a proper grinding disk and sharpen it correctly. My god this is really not how to sharpen a drill bit!
