As for the gears, it wouldn't surprise me if 4th was that long to help with the 1/4 mile time, though it seems more likely that it's just as short as they could make it while keeping the drop to 5th manageable. Both rock solid and just piercing through the air like a bullet. My Mustang would get floaty over 120 and the front end was like a brick wall in comparison.
I think one of the most entertaining things about you doing laps in people's cars is that, most of them don't "know" the ring turn by turn so you can see it on their face in blind corners that they're scared. I LOVE IT!!
Wow, that is next level. So fast and composed and seems so chilled while doing it. The gear ratios are moonshot! It makes the car seem almost gutless until you look at the speed at realise the speed is so high for the revs.
Man this car is amazing, even at low RPM it was pushing very hard and you could barely feel the speeds, at some point it felt like you were going at 100km/h but you were above 200.
It's amazing how a pushrod V8 can sound so exotic. For such a low revving engine, it sounds like its revving to 7, 8 or 9,000 rpm not 6. TORQUE everywhere, low center of gravity with no cams on top of the engine... just a wonderful motor.
... do you go to tracks? We had four of them at my local track like a month ago. Vettes are known as the track cheat code because them and porsche constantly win everything.
Long gearing is mainly for it to pass emissions. But it’s easily fixable by changing the final drive ratio to something like a 4.10 instead of 3.90, which this comes in.
The gear box is like never ending 🤣 almost 260 in 4th damn, that's impressive, Nice lap Misha ;) i was expecting money shift but hopefully it's not phews.
Yeah hopefully at least a 4.10 final drive gear swap is in his near future, if this is equipped with the Z51 package, it came with a 3.42 final drive, this definitely needs 4.10's to help (cheapest way to help lol)....it would be so much faster just with shorter gearing.

You always knew a Ford because there would be design changes every other week and then it was a mad dash to get the machines installed at the factory. Stuff for the Transit vans were in a state of build, scrap and remachine parts for a new design and repeat for 3 years. For the S550 mustang, they had to send workers to run production on our assembly floor to complete press and car show vehicles and for the Fiesta, one of our project managers wound up running the machine to assemble a bunch of bumpers which I, the purchasing, shipping and receiving agent, had to drive 8.5 hours to Canada to run some cars! 😂😂
I think by the time the C7 was out, they had it pretty much perfected. They had to go mid engine to better it. I think the emotion of the C7 with a manual is perhaps the sweet spot. Also love the removeable top.
For me the "base" C7 is the most beautiful of all the corvettes to date, the red/black color combo makes it perfect. Switching to a rear-mid-engine layout with the C8 might have been a good decision regarding performance, but at the cost of giving up perfect proportions.
I'm glad the issue of cooling is finally being addressed. Most people just slap on 2 million boosted horsepower and scratch their head when the rear end gears melt and oil sprays all over the track. Keep it cool and you can do more.
Chevy makes interesting choices with gear ratios sometimes. Not really a sports car but I have an express van 5.3 and there’s so little torque in third gear it loses speed while towing up a gentle hill at highway speeds and requires a downshift to second. weird choices for vehicles where power delivery is desired/needed.

That Vette induced some massive fear and adrenaline into this man. Who saw those shakes after he was done. That’s what it’s all about! 😂 This guy sure knows how to tame a beast!
The only thing I don't like about the C7 is that manual models still have the steering wheel paddles, instead of shifting they turn off/on the auto-rev matching function. Typical way GM finds a way to save costs.
@@gpaje Either way the cost increases, Its a couple hundred bucks to buy a new wheel but millions to develop. Plus why do you care if people think you drive an auto?
@spork8721 Maybe, who knows the actual costs, there are kits to remove it, It bothers me because I'm weird that way. Can't I have illogical views and faults? There are whole forum threads that discuss this, not just me.
I'm a new subscriber. I'm amazed how Misha can hop into a car he's never seen before and crank out unbelievable laps at the ring. A true test for any sports car. Much continued success Misha! 👍🏁
The C7 Zo6 is plagued with overheating issues due to the inefficient coolers, and to be honest, yet he put Z06 coolers on this stingray, which he may have figured it would work being a N/A version of the Z06, so he pretty much made a grand sport out of his stingray.. My SS 1LE, doesn't have a single issue, same motor, but much better suspension and trans ratios.. He should have used the 1LE coolers instead.. I have done 40min sessions with not one single issue with heat, other than brakes and tires, of course.. Corvette trans tunnels, get soo hot too, I had a C6 before the SS 1LE and it would get soo hot it would cook your right leg, and nearly boil a drink if you had one in the cup holder.. lol
Love the C7. Had one in Z51 trim and 8 speed auto with the hopes the transmission would be a bit as good as the ZF units, but it was a disappointment. It worked great on upshits at WOT, but downshifts were slow and it overall sucked for daily driving. I really wish they would've gone with the 6MT instead of the odd 7 speed. Overall an amazing car that didn't get the best transmission choices.
Awesome video. The C7's are absolute weapons with the magnetic suspension if optioned, tires and pads/fluid and can keep up with basically anything in it's class if not pass them.
always love a vette video! the gearing in these cars truly is insane, top of 2nd gear in my c6 is almost 90 mph. great for getting 30mpg out of it lol. the C7 automatic has better gearing but not the C6's and they're meh torque converter autos until you get to the C8. ideally you'd get an RPM transmission with ZR1 ratios and 4.10s but that's a lot of money and work
Had a C7 Z06 M7 and 2nd gear was the same way. That car was quick, I miss it since I sold it a few years ago. This video reminded me that even though it didn’t rev high it took time to get through the gears due to the ratios and the engine sounds great!
This guy looks like a system administrator in every company. Ours is the same, but he drives a VW Lupo 😄 Congrat on this wonderful car, you are amazing! 👍
I'm glad Im not the only one that has though gm's gear spacing is backward. They've been doing that since the c5 zo6. The bace model first 4 gears were actually better spaced.
Well, I am soon to get a Z51 C7 manual for track tool. this video was good to show the TC off, Track mode, is not that hard to control. Some testers in the states say that it is worrisome and can get better times from Sport 2 but on Cup2 maybe the stick is so much better than with stock tires. I just saw one guy on PS4S complaining about controllability but those tires are not for the track they are flat out dangerous. I plan Ferodo DS1.1 pads and DBA front rotors, and new fluid the first track day. I may get new tires and wheels by then but they won't be Cup 2 like. I am excited to experience the 460HP/465lb-ft Tq. The gearing complaints! but, the torque curve is so flat. I do agree tho 4th being 1:1 and the rest overdrives it's a bit strange, they probably should have made 5th 1:1. The gear spread is about .7 drop as you go up even to 5th.
Your footwork and miss shift reminds me of the Dire Straits song The Bug...'Standing on the throttle, Standing on the brake, in the groove till you make a mistake. ' 🙂🇦🇺
you could have "google'd it"...but since you're lazy, here's the answer: "..Turns out, the paddles on manual-shift cars aren't for shifting. They're the on/off switches for the standard rev-matching feature. GM was cagey when we asked if this was done to let them use a single steering wheel unit on both manual and automatic transmission models."
@@itzanopinion oh, I'm sorry for asking. It was a honest question. There are a lot of people that wouldn't mind answering that, if the know it and don't have to look for. But thanks for googling it anyways. Next time, better not bother!
Geez 7th is geared for over 500 km/h! Bolt some turbos to it and take it to the Bonneville salt flats! Must be so good at high speed cruising on the autobahn. At 250 km/h and it's just chilling at 3100 rpm. I bet a 4.11 or even shorter rear end would turn this thing into a real animal.
The C7's have an auto rev-match feature where you don't need to blip the throttle on downshifts, the computer does it for you. The paddles are to engage or disable the auto-rev match.

“Little red Corvette” 🎶
The only thing I don't like about the C7 is that manual models still have the steering wheel paddles, instead of shifting they turn off/on the auto-rev matching function. Typical way GM finds a way to save costs.
Thanks for this comment, I was wondering why a manual car had paddle shifters
I would rather them do that instead of increasing msrp to have 2 different steering columns for the different transmissions
Just a steering wheel, not a column, how much, maybe a few bucks? Rather not have people think I have an auto.
What an amazing experience 😊❤ I was always curious how these cars handle. Thank you for the video 💯
I knew they had long gears but 250+ km/h in 4th gear on a 7 speed gearbox is crazy. For emissions surely one overdrive gear would be enough?
Was looking for a c7 video on this channel just recently, nice to see
I would to see misha in C7 ZR1. Maybe the gearing issue would disappear with the supercharger compensating for that.
Maybe but he’d have to really fuckin send it in a c7 for the gears not to seem long.
I forgot C7 has auto rev match …. For a moment I assumed you’re so good that you made it happen telepathically!! Seemed to be functioning smoothly.
The owner is the coolest guy ever!
I like that he points out, that the C7 is the „last true corvette“.
I'm a new subscriber. I'm amazed how Misha can hop into a car he's never seen before and crank out unbelievable laps at the ring. A true test for any sports car. Much continued success Misha! 👍🏁
When misha drives the track looks like a video game ❤
Genuine question: do people have to sign a waiver with you before you drive their cars?
For all the extra cooling mods it did get hot 🤔
It did😢
The C7 Zo6 is plagued with overheating issues due to the inefficient coolers, and to be honest, yet he put Z06 coolers on this stingray, which he may have figured it would work being a N/A version of the Z06, so he pretty much made a grand sport out of his stingray.. My SS 1LE, doesn't have a single issue, same motor, but much better suspension and trans ratios.. He should have used the 1LE coolers instead.. I have done 40min sessions with not one single issue with heat, other than brakes and tires, of course.. Corvette trans tunnels, get soo hot too, I had a C6 before the SS 1LE and it would get soo hot it would cook your right leg, and nearly boil a drink if you had one in the cup holder.. lol
I did notice the same, I cannot imagine how bad it would be on stock cooling.
What an Emotion The Melodic Full Sound of this Fantastic 🔥C7 Vette🔥...this is called Pure V8 sound🇺🇸😍...as always Great MISHA 👏
love seeing your content man! it does put a smile on my face. keep it up man I hope to be there in the Nürburgring one day!
Love it! Weird gear ratios as said! 4th is super long in particular.
Misha, can you explain to me why it is manual but it has cams?
always love a vette video! the gearing in these cars truly is insane, top of 2nd gear in my c6 is almost 90 mph. great for getting 30mpg out of it lol. the C7 automatic has better gearing but not the C6's and they're meh torque converter autos until you get to the C8. ideally you'd get an RPM transmission with ZR1 ratios and 4.10s but that's a lot of money and work
Had a C7 Z06 M7 and 2nd gear was the same way. That car was quick, I miss it since I sold it a few years ago. This video reminded me that even though it didn’t rev high it took time to get through the gears due to the ratios and the engine sounds great!
Big reason why I didn’t like my C6Z06 the gear ratios were too long in my opinion.
This guy looks like a system administrator in every company. Ours is the same, but he drives a VW Lupo 😄 Congrat on this wonderful car, you are amazing! 👍
GM suspension engineers are one of the best!
I'm glad Im not the only one that has though gm's gear spacing is backward. They've been doing that since the c5 zo6. The bace model first 4 gears were actually better spaced.
C7... the last true Corvette imo!
The new one is also a beautiful car, but it no longer looks like Corvette to me.
Been watching your videos a ton lately, amazing content Misha!
Misha, you should start a "track score" chart....kinda like the "doug score."
mishas foot work is incredible
@07:09 bmw heard that downshifting V8, immediately went ohh snap my bad lol
Your footwork and miss shift reminds me of the Dire Straits song The Bug...'Standing on the throttle, Standing on the brake, in the groove till you make a mistake. ' 🙂🇦🇺
Amazing how you managed the breaking with your left foot . Everytime I tried it, I landed in the windshield 😂
That accelerater tap you did before changing gear which disturbed you. And it was the first time doing it since the lap started
7 speed gearbox but 5,6 and 7 gear are unusable. They should add a few more gears just beacause.
Save the manual folks Red looks awesome on a corvette
Can we start calling this Mischa's car reviews during a hot-lap ?
10:07 that smile is priceless
I noticed when you're downshifting you don't have to press the gas pedal with this car.
That's a genius option to have👍
I like Mishas expressions 😀"Here we can brake tomorrow and the car will stop yesterday"
like to see the Time of a ‘19 c7 & ‘22 lt1 on the ring?
Why the steering wheel has pedalshifts? Is it the same steering independent of the gearbox?
you could have "google'd it"...but since you're lazy, here's the answer:
"..Turns out, the paddles on manual-shift cars aren't for shifting.
Does anyone know why the C7 manuals still have “flappy paddles” on the back of the steering wheel?
The C7's have an auto rev-match feature where you don't need to blip the throttle on downshifts, the computer does it for you. The paddles are to engage or disable the auto-rev match.
@@spirako legend! Thank you
Damn, that thumbnail looks fire!!
never had a LS it was a LT :P
handles super how it looks like it goes realy safe and superfast in corners like on rails
Wait, does that car have a manual gear box with paddle shifters? I'm confused.
nah.. has a clutch & gear box!
The paddles in this case are to turn on/off the auto revving for the downshifts. In the automatic version, it does what you would expect.
