Bernardo2363 I bought my first Corvette n August. It's a 2017 Black on Black Grand Sport and I couldn't be more happy. Never owned a non daily driver before and it's way more car than I could have ever imagined
Chassis balance is ridiculous...so docile yet serious. Intake/Headers/Exhaust/Heads/Road Course cam and DSC controller with mag ride in a GS I think is the ultimate C7.
Those were some sweet drifts through the corners, very well controlled. I thought I was watching Chris Harris drive! I was wondering if one was going to end up biting you or not ;)
You can really drive!!! Word of advice, keep traction control on. Its fun what you were doing, however it cuts down on track time while the the Porsche is sticking every turn. If you notice he couldn't really handle your horse power, but racing on a track is always won in the turns. Great video!! This is coming from a 2015 Z06 owner. the New GS and z06 are the best cars ever!!!
I always set my race car up with a bit of corner exit oversteer but the only way that is fast is if you countersteer when you get on the power post apex. It appeared you were way late on your countersteering and costing yourself considerable time.
I enjoyed the video. I think a few posters miss the point that sometimes oversteer is just for fun. It's not always about passes or lap times. :) Nice job when you did go around at the end - both feet in and just made yourself predictable for the driver coming up behind you. So many folks just keep trying to save it when they are long past the point of saving and potentially get others involved because they go back across the track in the process. Do you recall what you were using to capture the in-car video from the back glass of the car? I really like the light balance. We can see what is happening in the car but also outside ahead of the car as well. I've tried GoPro and VIRB cameras and they both seem to struggle with this situation. They let in so much light to compensate for the dark interior, the road ahead is almost completely washed out.
IrishKiltie19 thank you - you clearly understood the point of the video: just so good fun. As for camera I used a GoPro Hero 3 Black and I did try to adjust the settings because, as you said, it’s hard to see both in car and the road. This was a long time ago, sorry I don’t remember the setting.
HDA....... Great! I was hoping it was stock. I'm getting my Grand Sport next year and I was thinking that I don't want to have to spend more money on an exhaust to sound like this. Great camera view for the video.
Nice driving! I'm curious though where you find info on track days at COTA. I checked their website and I couldn't really find a clear cut answer. I'm from el paso but would love to road trip to Austin just for a chance to spend some track time on this circuit. Btw, Loved how you caught some of that snap oversteer on exit lol
Nice drive bud but I did notice you are punching a little too much right at the exit of a corner. Maybe smoothen our the acceleration before the exit and progressively giving more throttle in cornering may help your fish tailing a bit better? Just my two cents! Nice car man!
Great Driving. At the very end right before you spun out I had a feeling you were going to try an over take the GT3 cuz when I seen you go from 3rd down to 2nd I knew were were gunna try an pass his ass with that lovey Torque that the the Corvette is known for. Sure enough you coming out of that turn you punched it and the rear end snapped out, this is only my speculation but man it was fun to see that last bit there. I have a C7 Grand Sport so I think that's where my speculation came from. Def a fun video man! Great driving too. BTW...is ur exhaust stock?
GrandSportGuy1983 thank you! Yeah the abuse to the rear tires all came to terms at the end....! You have a great car, give those gt3 a hard time! :) Cheers
Beautiful driving, and thank you for sharing. Bought a new 2019 Corvette C7 Grand Sport with a Manual Transmission and attended the Ron Fellows Corvette Owner School at Spring Mountain in Nevada. Corvettes are amazing cars, and yes the Big Torque can be tricky when exiting a slow corner, as I experienced a few slides myself. Getting better and having fun too.
looks like you take your apexs too early.. that's why you have to over correct so much and lose the back end on every other turn.. but great video.. I really enjoyed it!
D. Mike he needs to put the car in sport setting and not race, randy pobst said the suspension is too stiff and the steering to restrictive. It causes much less oversteer and way better lap times in sport mode.
How are the rotors still holding up? I saw online a few guys were swapping Z07 rotors with steel and keeping the carbon ceramics stored for when selling the car.
what the heck mod was in that BMW? I know you let him pass but then he was seriously fast in the queue. It seems you really enjoy getting sideways. haha...when the other Vette came along you tightened up your lines....sweet driving and sweet drifting!! and what was the other Vette ?
solostream thanks !! The black Vette was a z06, if you see it overheated after 1.5 laps... the Grand Sport is a fantastic car, not a hiccup throughout the day.
The Italian Pursuit, I am very curious to know how the GS matches up with a new Viper. Have you raced one or know anything? Both N/A and Im having a hard time deciding which one performs better. Thanks.
Hey "GT3 Chaser" I enjoyed the vid of your session at COTA, I have yet to run that beautiful track. I own several Corvettes (C6 Z06 & a C5 I run at the Track) and I enjoy several Track Days a year depending on how busy I am with work and rental house. I would like to make a small critique on your gear selection choices. The C5, C6 and C7 Corvettes all have gobs of torque at low RPM, and I rarely ever drop down into 2nd gear on the track. I find that leaving the car in third gear on most corners makes you actually faster (and smoother) out of the corner, than dropping down into 2nd gear. You really sawed the wheel on many of your 2nd gear corner exits due to excessive wheel spin. When your tires are spinning your loss off traction hurts your forward momentum, as well as having to modulate the throttle (lift slightly). While keeping the car in 3rd gear is "less exciting" (less drama as well) it keeps your driving smoother, and smooth is fast..... And as an added bonus, your rear (SportCup 2?) tires will last much longer. :) **** I know that the exhaust roar coming out of the corner in 2nd gear is awesome.... but give my suggestion a try for a session or two on your next track day, and overlay those data recorder files and compare the lap times and speeds a the ends of the straightaways. The results may surprise you. - Johnny Corvette

warphace the car is heavier on the paper than when you drive it. I think that a diet of 400lbs would make it a perfect track weapon but I wouldn't know where to start from to lower the weight!
Mind if I ask what traction/stability mode you were in? I presume you were in track mode but of the 5 traction modes, which were you in that allowed you to slide it like that?
The Italian Pursuit - in the Motor Trend testing, Randy Probst started out the lap in Track Mode but found it too harsh so he dialed back into Sport and found it much easier to get it around the track. Have you ever tried that? The vid is on UA-cam
I have a C7 2017 GS and track it in Sport Mode with all the nannies off and it is in my opinion a much easier car to go faster vs track mode. This was fun to watch but losing a lot of time with all that sliding...greatest fun is running down the Porsche's. But I actually have more fun running them down in my Gen 5 Z/28 with 590RWHP.

Wow, that white porsche is no joke. you're tail waggin all over the place, and that porsche is steady as a bomb diffusers hand on the wire he's about to cut. And how massively modified was that piece of shit BMW... good gawd. Must have an easy 600 hp under that hood.
This car does not have the balance, composure and stability of a 911 especially coming out of corners...and this from someone who absolutely loves the Grand Sport
32 Yr Old Casual Food Industry Worker the grip of a 911 out of a corner is proverbial. The stability under breaking not so much! Thanks for the comment!
Actually, it's not so proverbial - case in point, the blatant evidence in front of our eyes via your video. The GT3 simply tears out of corners whereas your are just simply wasting seconds upon seconds slipping and sliding coming out corners. It's actually quite a turn off to see that. Some of that can be attributed to driving style and perhaps it could be due to difference in tires as well. Overall, the 911 hunkers down and just rips out of corners. And, yes, I did watch the Motor Trend 911 Carrera S vs. Grand Sport head-to-head comparison, so I'm aware how capable the GS is.
A lot of his slippage was clearly intentional man. When he was chasing the z06 you can see his was much more focused on getting the power down. No denying the 911 can put down power, but that car is very much a handful as well if you're blatantly stabbing throttle to make the track day a little more fun.
Nice driving but deliberately flooring it that quickly out of corners and spending three seconds to drift and correct each time is making me cringe. You'd be quicker if you didn't do that.
Excellent! C7 Will be missed! Best C7 Ever!.
You won the race based on style alone. The drifts were so well-executed and controlled. Made it more fun to watch
Nice driving! The C7 Grand Sport is defiantly my favorite Corvette at the moment, nice to see it driven like this :)
Absolutely love my new 2019 Corvette C7 Grand Sport with its Manual Transmission! Buy one. Life is short.
Life starts a short shift at a time

i love the competition seat. same ones I've got. great support
Would love to attain this confidence and talent on the track one day.
I'd love to just get on a track one day..lol
Whoever was driving the Porsche ,was a hell of a driver, can't wait to get my Vette soon Cheers nice video
vince bienish thanks Vince! Yeah he has more than 500 laps at that track!
How di you like the Grand sport?
vince bienish fantastic car Vince. The best track weapon for the $
Thinking 2016 Z06 now? lol Forza Italia :)
Great driving! Well executed oversteer and COTA seems like an awesome track
Thanks, such a fun car to slide around cota
Slightly eager on the throttle haha. It's a lot faster to keep the rear planted but not nearly as fun, so I agree with your choice
You get it 😜
14:45 I was waiting for this. The rear tires just couldn't take it anymore.
Those were some sweet drifts through the corners, very well controlled. I thought I was watching Chris Harris drive! I was wondering if one was going to end up biting you or not ;)
Flabernat flattering comment, thank you!
One of the better videos I’ve seen and I think I’ve seem them all!
@1:49 you gave that 370 something to look at
Sweet vid man......Just ordered mine can't waitttttt
Nice! Have fun!
Another thing you might check to keep the rear end under you is to make sure your rear caster is positive and around +0.8.
Yep, the rear is way too loose given the power limitation.
Quite a surprise there at the end. It looked pretty cool like it was on purpose.

Paul Smith average driver
GMoney Troll Fail
This is a great driver
He would be on them the whole course except his tires seem to be coming loose

1:26 the porsche rear end is all over the place...anyway corvette just won their 3rd race at this track in the C7R
felt the car could of been pushed harder in and out of corners this is the best balanced corvette nice footage
Allen Saunders power sliding out of a corner is never the fastest on track, but it's sure fun
Thoroughly enjoyable
Is the exhaust stock? It sounded awesome!
the Teknician yes sir, it is the stock performance exhaust from Chevy.
HDA....... Great! I was hoping it was stock. I'm getting my Grand Sport next year and I was thinking that I don't want to have to spend more money on an exhaust to sound like this. Great camera view for the video.
the Teknician You will love it. Today, in its price range, the GS is the best choice for a street and track car. mine had the z07 package.
HDA .... Did you by chance test drive the Z06?
the Teknician I tested the c6 zr1. I am sure the c7 z06 is fun but I prefer naturally aspirated engines for the track ;-)

sean kealey Google these groups: edge addicts, bmwcca, NASA. or join trackjunkies.org a mostly Texan group for trackdays!
Not great driving. Toasted his tires at every exit? He may have just been having fun though.
Just a bit 😃
Nice driving, I know it's addictive... I bet if you don't drift ...-3 sec off your lap time.
labedra Yes but that low end torque is addictive. I could have taken all the tight corners in +1 gear but the hooning was calling my name...!
please do more videos!
Great fun! Love the GS.

yes
I would have thought you would have made short work of the 997 GT3.
Any modifications done to the car? I know I am little late to the comments section on this video...
Hi, the C7 was bone stock ! Very capable despite my driving lol
Great Driving. Lol I like the wave bye bye at 5:50
Ironic that the grand sport ended up over taking the z06 at one point.... just an observation
... uh you did see the z06 drivers hand out the window waving him past... right.
Arnold Martinez only to then slow down due to overheat
Z06 is not ready for real track time like a true GS no overheating issues drive the shit out of it!
Good driving until the end. Tough luck at the end of the video. Were traction control and stability control on?
Gary Simpson all off! Always!
looks like you take your apexs too early.. that's why you have to over correct so much and lose the back end on every other turn.. but great video.. I really enjoyed it!
He is intentionally oversteering.
My man can DRIVE!
Wow, that's too much oversteer off of the corners = lost time. Love the sound though.
D. Mike thanks. I was not going for the time.
D. Mike he needs to put the car in sport setting and not race, randy pobst said the suspension is too stiff and the steering to restrictive. It causes much less oversteer and way better lap times in sport mode.
Unreal driving. What is your camera setup? GoPro suction cupped to rear glass? Asking because I’m about track my GS.
Yep exactly that!
What the hell...that strech 1:20-1:30 I would have been at 2nd gear and accelerating!!! :D seriously low revs at 3rd gear
How are the rotors still holding up? I saw online a few guys were swapping Z07 rotors with steel and keeping the carbon ceramics stored for when selling the car.
Carl B Hey Carl, this was a media car so I have no idea. Most of people opt for steel for the track use from what I could see. Have a nice day.
Looks pretty hard to Drive? I would asume If You can manage to make it Setup wise more easy to Control then it should be faster. But great driving!
Are you happy with the GS?
Mark LaBour best track car to buy in 2017! Hands down, even base GS.
Since you are a GS owner, do you hear a lot or any complaints of c7 Z06 owners of overheating? Especially in our hot and humid TX weather?
Jared C. Kim yes, definitely heat issues for the stock Z06 C7 in Texas. 2 laps and you need to cool off
@@thekingmezger Even with the updates to the 2017+ model years?
