I love your channel and your projects! I also had a large bag of circles to make something from. I decided on “bubble quilts”. I put a backing on the longarm, top it with my batting and then a background. I throw the circles randomly about the background and free motion them in place leaving a raw edge. So soft after washing. Some of the kid’s favorite cuddle quilts. Wish I could send you a picture!
Hi Beth. I've made those as well. I have so many circles I could make dozens of them so I need more ideas. I'd get bored making so many of the same quilt.
I like the way you are so layed back about doing things it is so refreshing i just moved and left all my quilting buddies behind so you are my new friend thanks
AW...sorry you're missing your buddies. If you don't already stop on over to the blog and you can see what I'm up to every day. www.joscountryjunction.com
Thanks Jo! I wasn't sure what to do with my day today and I was fretting about it. I saw your video and just started listening. Next thing I knew I was pulling out my hand quilting project and just enjoying the moment. I'm not sure I would have without your video, all calm and chill and honest. :3 I've now quilted for about an hour, and I'm probably going to keep going! I hope you have a great week.
I absolutely love, love, love your channel!!!! You are very chill and I am wishing you were my next door neighbor. I would be joining you in sewing with you (that is if you would have me) you are so kind and I love the way you calmly explain things. Plus, you give so much to charitable work. That speaks volumes to me. God bless you, Jo. I also have a sister named Jo. I have a daughter named Joanna. And my granddaughter s name is Georgia also! So I feel connected to you in some sort of way! I look forward to seeing you every day on u tube tv. It’s Memorial Day weekend this week also. We had a collie dog, too named Rosie. Please keep producing these videos. You are so good! Thank you so much. Maria
Maybe when the wooden box was made, the pegs fit the bobbins of the older machines of the time. I don't think they go together. The plastic spool holder looks like something from the 70s. I remember seeing them in the fabric store I worked at. I think the box is from the 40s or earlier. As for the denim circles, they would make a neat quilt! Cathedral Window. Put in squares of lighter fabric of muslin that would fit when you pin four sides of the circles over the square edges. Like the denim quilt, except with the darker shirt fabric. It would be an ideal quilt for a guy! It would make a light weight quilt, I wouldn't worry about batting, but maybe you could use a square of flannel between the light color center.and the shirt circle. The diagonal of the square should probably be 1/4" shorter than the diameter of the circle. Diameter -1/4", then divide by 1.414. Should give you the size of squares.
For the circles, you could make them into squares and use them with the circle denim for a baby or play quilt, placemats or a small throw. You send out warm feelings to everyone. Thank you
the fabric circles can be used in the denim cathedral window style - it would take the place of the denim circles; could be used with cotton squares for the inner, or fleece, or whatever you like
I love those little stars - would like to put them in an Irish chain quilt. If I get round to it!!! Thank you, always lovely to watch while slurping my coffee and procrastinating before tackling the veg patch! LOL! You are so precise with your sewing and I do love the idea of no ironing while doing little bits, otherwise it is twist and turn, or jump up and down - just dive in! Yayyy!
You are doing just fine on your videos. I’ve never had a problem with you. You make me chill and relax. I find myself going to watch your videos before anyone else. I just found out about your daughter’s Etsy shop and will be checking it out. You two are so adorable!
I’d love to see a log cabin, largish blocks, narrow strips, all the same width, two colours, or neutral and one colour. Scrappy of course. I’d like to see how you build your blocks. Thank you ❤❤❤
I can't tell you what an inspiration you are, Jo. I've adopted your no press suggestion and miracle of miracles my Chilhowie quilt turned out just great and in 6 weeks! So thanks for all your suggestions. You are appreciated from way up here in Central Alberta🎉
Happy to find your video today and I enjoyed hand stitching a binding while you sewed sweet little scrappy blocks! I am also a minimal iron use quilter.
Love watching you ! You make me slow down and enjoy sewing ! You destress me! I’m hand quilting a white on white quilt top 90 bye 108 ! It so big a 90 year old friend gave it to me 6 years ago ! It’s quilting all over! In 2022we layered it up with safety pins The goal was to have it done for our Quild quilt show But in August of 2022 I was diagnosed with Stage 4 ovarian cancer wish had compromise my abdomen! They drained almost a gallon of fluid off both my lungs it’s inoperable I’m taking maintenance cancer every 3 weeks! I had lost 82 # but at least I can hand quilt but it off me so weak and I have neuropathy in my right hand ! But I want to have it done for our quilt show in Oct 2024! Plus I have alot of other projects that I need to finish! Keep up the great work you do!!!
What about using the plaid circles to make a apple core quilt? You could make your own template and machine sew it together. Just a thought. Love seeing your thrift finds, your video’s and of course LOVE your blog. I’ve been a follower it seems like forever. Thank you for all you do.
I love scrappy quilts too! Can’t believe I used to do matchy matchy years ago! I’m glad you acknowledge your lighting situation. I could tell the colors in your background quilt, but some of the blocks you were working on, the colors washed out. I could see a red center. It just looks hazy in your room. Still fun to watch and listen!
I so enjoy your videos...I am new quilter now for almost a year and I have learned everything from youtube..my best friend...lol. I also love cross stitch as well...many projects taking over my house😂
Jo, while watching you this morning, I noticed the nine patch quilt behind the long arm. I am working on that this week. Hope to have the center done today. I will do this again. Love the amount of small pieces you can use. The pieces may be small but they are still worth around $18.00 a yard. I’ve already started collecting for the next one. Thanks for all you share.
What to video - anything/everything. I particularly like that you chat throughout... Even if you are describing the blocks/fabrics/pattern/ironing/pinning/food/gardening/not tidying...
Thank you Jo for another beautiful video. As I was listening to you as I was trying to fix two wheels for a appliqued car. Happy quilting have a nice day🪡🧵
My granddaughter traced and cut lots of those circles. She used a CD disc for size. Hers were more colorful prints. She folded in half, then again in half. She gathered raw edges with basting stitch (about 4 or 5) together, making flower petals. She then hot glued them on a pen and put a colorful button in the center.
You could use different neutral squares in the center of the circles tobreverse the look. Or applique the circles on to matching/unmatched neutral or low-volume squares. Thanks for the visit!
For the bag of circles, what about making oversized yo-yos for a coverlet & coordinating pillow/sham? Another idea would be making appliqué circles using stabilizer & apply to background for a throw-size quilt.
Your Wonky HST and Diamonds turned out looking great! It looks so planned, even though we know it was a "scrappy make-do" sort of project. The best kind of project! It has been a while since we've seen any string piecing projects! Maybe one of those? I can relate to living in a small town. When I was on the farm, our town boasted a total of 77 souls!
Your video popped up a few weeks ago??? A lot has been going on and I don't recall just when...but I enjoy them so much. I would not change a thing about them...unless it was more sew with me...but then I do well sometimes to watch the ones you do. As for ironing, I often wonder how much all the ironing I do damages the fabric. My mom never ironed...and she made quilts from literal scraps...from making our clothes, from some other people gave her. I graduated high school in 1974 so you know I am a bit older than you. I the youngest of 8 children...my older sisters can remember ironing with the irons you heated on top of the stove. Believe me, the last thing mom would have done is to heat those up to iron while she quilted. I did not used to iron at all...
I think if you can’t get an idea on how to use them . I would square them up and use them in a patch work quilt like the one you made for your son Buck.
Sew the circles on a square and then add borders around the stars to fit the circle block. So every other block would be the circle then the stars. Just an idea.
Hi Carol. From colored prints The center is 2x2 The star points are1 1/2 x 1 1/2 From neutral prints The sides are 1 1/2 x 2 The corners are 1 1/2 x 1 1/2
Your can sew them together over lapping them as though they were cathedral windows. Put a flannel backing on them or put two of them together. Otherwise you could send them to me!
Civil war and primitives are my absolute favorite! I create quilts for other people with brights but for me it has to be Kim Diehl Kanasas Troubles Jo Morton etc. I use a very nice muslin for my backs and when it works, I use it for some of my backgrounds like for pin wheels etc. Thank you Jo I really enjoy your videos !! I've always learned and retained so much more when the teacher talks, explains and illustrates what they are teaching. Sincerely Your Friend Lynne
Cut the rounds into squares and then you can make a cathedral window quilt. Some scrapbook paper glued to your plastic bins to cover up the labels would look cute. Instead, you could take some old fabric that you won't use and use pinking shears to cut it and spray glue it to your containers. Probably starch it really well first.
With the circles you could… 1. Appliqué them on a sheet or something and give it as a charity quilt, or 2. Put them on an Accuquilt and cut them into squares, or 3. Sew 2 together with light batting and make a very different version of the circle Jean quilt. I should have read all the comments before I started typing. Lol!
Walmart has a round LED light in the electronics section. I've seen other UA-camrs show they use that type of light. I just open all the windows, turn overhead lights on and it seemed to work on my other channel.
I ended up getting an expensive new camera and we tested it. So far we think it will be much better. Check out the next video that comes out and you can see what you think.
As for the plastic thread holder on top of the wooden one, I had the plastic one years ago. I don't believe they go together. The person who had it before may have put them together because things didn't fit on the wooden one.
The old wooden spools are a smaller diameter than the new plastic ones. Kudos to the previous owner for finding a newer holder to fit. The drawers were most likely used for embroidery threads.
I had to laugh at somehow I have been stitching on something very similar to the topic of your video when I tune in. I am stitch on the Bonnie Hunter quilt "Dawn's Early Light" to use up a bunch of red and white scraps. I am sewing 3 inch finished red and white friendship stars. Need close to 1400 half square triangles for these stars! Right now I am setting them up to chain sew as 9 patch units. This is probably not the most efficient assemble, but a comfortable method I have done for many years. Love your small stars😁
Circles are perfect to make Suffolk puff quilts. Made these that ended up as a cushion, takes too many for a quilt. Later I thought I could of made the centre block a 3D effect with the puffs. Oh well , look forward to see what you end up doing.
I like your videos. I love Civil War repo fabrics too. Do you have a light above your long arm that you have turned on? Try turning it off. It looks like you have fog behind you and your face is in shadow.
You said to leave comment on what we would like to see well ,,I would love to see some longarm how to's ,I have a new to me Janome long-arm and need to know how to use it ,,It will be hand guided, so I will use chalk to mark the quilt to follow or stencils, just love to see how you go about it all. I can do some loop -d- loops without chalk marking but lose my way I'm just not an artist 😢 But love to try, So there you go my suggestion ❤❤ Thank you
Hi Jo. I'm a new subscriber because your channel popped up in my feed the other day. I appreciate the way you quilt with no stress attached. Your lighting and audio are ok with me as I understand you're not in a "studio setting", just a home quilter like me. There's always the closed caption option if there is an audio issue which there usually isn't. I was watching an episode of you string quilting in 2020 and you mentioned your daughter's style of doing the block compared to yours. I quilt more like you. if I send 10 blocks through that's 10 completed blocks sooner instead of 50 blocks partially completed. I equate it to mowing my big back yard. I do it in quadrants starting closest to the house. I can get that quadrant done and I feel accomplished. Then I move on to the next one if I feel like it. No stress involved, I can always tackle the next quadrant tomorrow if I want. I'm 70 years old, in reasonability good shape but it is a big back yard and one does have to be mindful of push mowing in the Texas heat. Thanks for your videos.
You can fold in half & half again, thread A needle come up from back @ the center mark knot the thread. Go to edge of fabric & take a tiny stitch side to side so thread doesn't pull out, pull down , this creates 1st fold to center. Now go out to folded edge & take a tiny stitch again, pull down to center again. Now you have 2 folds . Go in same direction again as 2nd fold & take a tiny stitch at edge of that fold on outer edge of circle. Repeat until final fold , turn it under with a very scant Fold pull thread down to center & go through to back tie off & knot. Perfect hexie ! No EPP GREAT for grandmothers flower garden quilts. Takes very little thread to make each one & quick. Then sew together
I love your videos. I did want to let you know they are very dark. Lighting is not good. Then you mentioned lighting. I was doing all sorts of adjustments to my phone, and then I realized it was your end. I hope your daughter can help. Thank you!
Hi Jo, ive been sewing while watching. Will smaller spools of thread fit on that rack you bought. If interested you quilt as as you go type method for the circles on your long arm, place them on one large background fabric or scrappy LV shirt fabrics....or a yoyo table runner.
I have been thinking about your lighting situation and wondered if the camera 📷had a little visor or umbrella ⛱️ to block the light 💡 above it, would that prevent the glare? 🧐
Great news Mona. I bought a new camera just for filming. We tried it and it's MUCH better. I just haven't filmed a whole video to share with you yet. Soon.
I love your channel and your projects! I also had a large bag of circles to make something from. I decided on “bubble quilts”. I love your videos Jo!!!!! I’m praying Gods healing ❤️🩹 for you. Don’t stop bringing us your life, live of sewing and stories .

I have so many circles, I think I'll have many options for them.
Jo, you seem to have the best thrift shops! And I love this quilt! Love stars!!!
I do have some good thrift stores. I am a bit of an addict to thrift stores.
Love you finds at the thrift store - esp. those wooden spools. Your scrap wonky triangle quilt turned out so cute!
Thanks Peg!!
the fabric circles can be used in the denim cathedral window style - it would take the place of the denim circles; could be used with cotton squares for the inner, or fleece, or whatever you like

I am a dive in girl!!
You have convinced me that I don’t need to iron as often as I used to. My blocks turn out just fine and I can get a lot more done. Thanks!
Cross stitching while I watch you sew. Love the little stars!
I'm hoping to be done at the computer soon and cross stitching.
You are doing just fine on your videos. I’ve never had a problem with you. You make me chill and relax. I find myself going to watch your videos before anyone else. I just found out about your daughter’s Etsy shop and will be checking it out. You two are so adorable!
Oh thank you!
I have a huge amount of scraps. Not only strips but squares i have cut so really like tutorials on how to use them.
I’d love to see a log cabin, largish blocks, narrow strips, all the same width, two colours, or neutral and one colour. Scrappy of course. I’d like to see how you build your blocks. Thank you ❤❤❤
It's been a while since I made a log cabin. It was one of the first blocks I ever made!
Love your wonky quilt with the beige and red fabric.
Thanks so much!!
I can't tell you what an inspiration you are, Jo. I've adopted your no press suggestion and miracle of miracles my Chilhowie quilt turned out just great and in 6 weeks! So thanks for all your suggestions. You are appreciated from way up here in Central Alberta🎉
So cool!
I love to sew small blocks too. This quilt looks like fun!
I've always loved this quilt. I don't know why I've let it linger so long.
The same thing in my sewing shop… it works
Happy to find your video today and I enjoyed hand stitching a binding while you sewed sweet little scrappy blocks! I am also a minimal iron use quilter.
It's so nice to know I'm not the only one!! Sometimes I feel like a loner on the topic of ironing.
Love watching you ! You make me slow down and enjoy sewing ! You destress me! I’m hand quilting a white on white quilt top 90 bye 108 ! It so big a 90 year old friend gave it to me 6 years ago ! Keep plugging along!! You can do it!
Machine quilting along with you today! Thanks for the video/company!
I'm so glad you took me along.
So enjoy watching you make tiny squares. Can't wait to get home and sew also.
For not ironing it looks pretty good. I find if i don’t iron my seams marry up better.
me too!!
Love the scrappy browns idea for alternate blocks. As always enjoy your videos so much.
I'm glad you could join me!
What about using the plaid circles to make a apple core quilt? You could make your own template and machine sew it together. Just a thought. Love seeing your thrift finds, your video’s and of course LOVE your blog. I’ve been a follower it seems like forever. Thank you for all you do.
Thanks Toni!!
I love the traditional patterns, 9 patch, churn dash, courthouse, n log cabin.
I'm a traditional gal too.
Make a few yoyos to see how they will look. I am sure you can come up with something great and creative. Great find!
I made one yo-yo project and they take so long...plus it might interfere with my cross stitch time. HA!
I have been organizing the craft room. So for I have found over 450 2 1/2 inch squares.
I just bought an expensive new camera so I'm hoping that the next video will be all better.
The thread holders absolutely do not go together. 😊. Worth it either way at 50 ¢. I like it.
I agree!!
Love how you just toss the completed blocks into the bin 😂
Make a Henie quilt by folding those circles into hexagons
I'll have to look that up.
Fabric is so expensive. It has me hunting more than ever!!
Fold those circles into hexies
great idea!!
Love, love watching you sew and talk. You are very interesting.
I'm a rambler that's for sure!!
What to video - anything/everything. I particularly like that you chat throughout... Even if you are describing the blocks/fabrics/pattern/ironing/pinning/food/gardening/not tidying...
I want to just hang out with friends and chatting is what I would do if you were in my sewing room with me. So why not??
adding bead fringe to a jean jacket while you sew blocks
sounds fun!!
Thank you Jo for another beautiful video. As I was listening to you as I was trying to fix two wheels for a appliqued car. Happy quilting have a nice day🪡🧵
I hope you got them fixed!!

God bless.
You could use different neutral squares in the center of the circles tobreverse the look.
Or applique the circles on to matching/unmatched neutral or low-volume squares.
Thanks for the visit!
Great idea!
For the bag of circles, what about making oversized yo-yos for a coverlet & coordinating pillow/sham? Another idea would be making appliqué circles using stabilizer & apply to background for a throw-size quilt.
I would try the circle for the denim quilt. I have one in progress but I used the square
I've thought of that...Hmm.
Yes! Thank you! A string project is actually next on the list.
Your video popped up a few weeks ago??? A lot has been going on and I don't recall just when...but I enjoy them so much. I would not change a thing about them...unless it was more sew with me...but then I do well sometimes to watch the ones you do. Believe me, the last thing mom would have done is to heat those up to iron while she quilted. I did not used to iron at all...
That's why I think ironing is overestimated!!
It’s called real life when summer come mowing and gardening just life
I mostly like real life but sometimes I'd much rather sew!!
I think if you can’t get an idea on how to use them . I would square them up and use them in a patch work quilt like the one you made for your son Buck.
Sew the circles on a square and then add borders around the stars to fit the circle block. So every other block would be the circle then the stars. Just an idea.
THanks for the idea!
Thank you for the visit.
I love stopping by!! Thanks for inviting me in.
Love the little stars! Tell us how you cut all the different pieces please.
Hi Carol.
From colored prints
The center is 2x2
The star points are1 1/2 x 1 1/2
From neutral prints
The sides are 1 1/2 x 2
The corners are 1 1/2 x 1 1/2
I think the overhead light fixture puts you in a shaddow. More front of you light upward will keep shaddows at bay. Thanks for the ideas!
Thanks for the tip! I bought a new camera so I'm hopeful things with lighting will be better soon.
Your can sew them together over lapping them as though they were cathedral windows. Put a flannel backing on them or put two of them together. Otherwise you could send them to me!
Great idea!!
I would sew rack circle on a square and let the circle fray.
That might be a good idea...
You're a girl after my own heart. I love all of those fabric designers too.
What size are the Civil War quilt blocks?
Make an i spy quilt. Do like cathedral window and put busy material u an play I spy with in the middle
Thanks for the suggestion!!
I think the small GUtterman thread would fit
great idea.
I'm kind of lazy about things like my containers and the labels showing. In full disclosure, I've rather quilt than mess with them. HA!!
With the circles you could…
1. Appliqué them on a sheet or something and give it as a charity quilt, or
2. Put them on an Accuquilt and cut them into squares, or
3. Sew 2 together with light batting and make a very different version of the circle Jean quilt.
I should have read all the comments before I started typing. Lol!
Thanks for the ideas.
The circles could be the centers of a bulls eye quilt. Try you small wooden spools on the top of you drawer piece. My grandma had one like that.
Thanks for the ideas.
Walmart has a round LED light in the electronics section. I've seen other UA-camrs show they use that type of light. I just open all the windows, turn overhead lights on and it seemed to work on my other channel.

As for the plastic thread holder on top of the wooden one, I had the plastic one years ago. I don't believe they go together. The person who had it before may have put them together because things didn't fit on the wooden one.
That's what I was thinking.
Cut the circles into squares. More useable as a square.
I've been thinking about that.
At one time we used spools of thread not cones. I bet the small Guttermann spools would fit. I don't think the two holders go together
It's just so weird that them fit together so well though.
The old wooden spools are a smaller diameter than the new plastic ones. Kudos to the previous owner for finding a newer holder to fit.
The drawers were most likely used for embroidery threads.
If thread spools don't fit on the pegs, maybe it's a ring holder and jewelry box.
I never thought of that.
I would cut the circles into squares.
I've been thinking about that.

Circles are perfect to make Suffolk puff quilts. Made these that ended up as a cushion, takes too many for a quilt. Later I thought I could of made the centre block a 3D effect with the puffs. Oh well , look forward to see what you end up doing.
I've had several ideas but one hasn't stuck for sure yet!
Is there room to stack/stagger bobbins onto thread spools if that’s purpose of thread caddy; store threads in drawer space possibly?
Maybe you can store rulers on that drawer and your cutters in drawer
Good idea. I'll have to try the rulers.
I can do some loop -d- loops without chalk marking but lose my way I'm just not an artist 😢 But love to try, So there you go my suggestion ❤❤ Thank you
Do look in my other videos. I have some there on how I free-motion.
What are the sizes of the flying geese ?
We are alike!! I like tackling projects one bite at a time.
Can’t wait to see what happens with the quilt
Me too. I hunted only for some alternate fabric but didn't find what I want yet.
I love the Civil War prints too. I'm Joanne but many people call me Jo. Are you a Joanne? Love the videos!
My real name is actually Jeanne Jo and I go by Jo
I would cut squares out of the circles. Then they are more sewable.
I'm leaning towards that.
Repeat until final fold , turn it under with a very scant
Fold pull thread down to center & go through to back tie off & knot. Perfect hexie ! No EPP
GREAT for grandmothers flower garden quilts. Takes very little thread to make each one & quick. Then sew together
I might have to try that.
@@JosCountryJunction It's fast & easy , forgot to say have the pretty side facing away & ugly side facing you
Love your channel❤️🎶❤️❤️❤️
Oh thanks. I'm working on improving it. I just bought a new camera to film with. It's promising and I think it will eliminate the lighting troubles.
The case is older, thread was sold on smaller spools years ago, it’s to bad your bobbins don’t fit, cut the circles into sqares
Thanks for the ideas!!
The wooden spools will fit on the spool holder you showed in the beginning of this video
I need to try that.
I love to chain piece because it cuts down on thread that hits the floor
YES, YES, YES!!
❤❤❤
The extra circles could be appliquéd onto a square then cut into quarters….ala drunkards path. Love all your goodies!😊
This might be my favorite idea yet!! THANKS.
Video suggestions: Show how you get recycled shirts cut into blocks and overalls cut into blocks.
I've had others mention that they would like videos on cutting up shirts for fabric. I'll for sure do that one.
@@JosCountryJunction Also, Bonnie hunter has done one
Jo, what is the name of the pattern for the quilt hanging on the long arm which has a ton of half square triangles and red center blocks?
The brown container you bought, could you store your rulers on top of it?
I might. That's a great idea. I'm going to try.
I would love to get dimensions for how you make those star blocks, I would love to join you.
Two inch center.
1 1/2" outer corners
1 1/2" star points
1 1/2" x 2" Background pieces for the star points.
I love your videos. I did want to let you know they are very dark. Lighting is not good. Then you mentioned lighting. I was doing all sorts of adjustments to my phone, and then I realized it was your end. I hope your daughter can help. Thank you!
I bought a new camera. The next videos will be done with it. Fingers crossed that's the ticket!!
Hi Jo, ive been sewing while watching. Will smaller spools of thread fit on that rack you bought. If interested you quilt as as you go type method for the circles on your long arm, place them on one large background fabric or scrappy LV shirt fabrics....or a yoyo table runner.
I thought about that. I've made a quilt like that before but there are SO MANY circles, that would use anywhere near all of them up!
Where did you find the white fabric with a thin blue stripe - blue and orange quilt? It looks kind of like pin striping.
It's a recycled shirt!!
Soon.
Chathedral windows
Where r u? No more videos?
Cut the circles into squares!!
I'm thinking about that.
How big is your star blocks when your done? ❤️
3 1/2" unfinished.
circles - ua-cam.com/play/PL9goRSj4pYTCfR_bZ3raIQ5Q-54UfNKOT.html her circles are bigger...
Thanks for the link.
Maybe enlist some help to get a good camera capture of your sewing.
I got a new camera so it's gonna be helpful.
